Fire And Death Being Investigated As Murder
The Kentucky State Police, Post 7 in Richmond is continuing to investigate the fire that occurred on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 178 Main St. in Beattyville, Ky.
An Autopsy was performed on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort. The autopsy concluded that Martha Belle Hollar, 79 years old of Beattyville, was deceased prior to her residence catching on fire.
Investigators with KSP are now investigating the fire and death as a murder.
The murder investigation is being conducted by KSP Detective Jesse Armstrong and Arson Investigator Pat Alford.
The Kentucky State Police requests anyone with information about the case to contact the Richmond KSP Post at (859)623-2404.
Fatal House Fire In Lee County Investigated by KSP
(Beattyville, KY)- The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post is currently investigating a fatal fire that occurred on Main St. in Lee County.
On Friday, April 11, 2014 at 9:32 pm EDT, KSP was requested to investigate the residential fire at 178 Main St. in Beattyville. KSP Troopers and members from the Lee County Fire Department searched the residence after the fire was extinguished and located a body deceased in the remains.
The homeowner, Martha Belle Hollar, 79 years old of Beattyville, was pronounced deceased by the Lee County Coroner.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The investigation is continuing by Tpr. Tyrus Robinson and Arson Investigator Pat Alford. KSP was assisted on scene by the Beattyville PD, Lee County Sheriff’s Department, Lee County Fire Department, Lee County EMS, Beattyville Fire Department, Bear Track Volunteer Fire Department, Primrose Volunteer Fire Department, Tri Community Volunteer Fire Department, Lee County Coroner and the State Fire Marshall.

KSP Investigates Fatal Collision in Estill County
(Irvine, KY)-- On Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 6:03 p.m. EDT the Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post responded to a single vehicle collision on Furnace Junction Road in rural Estill County.
Initial investigation has revealed that a 1995 Dodge Neon, operated by Marinda Lewis, 39 years old of Ravenna, was traveling north on Furnace Junction Road. The vehicle left the roadway and overturned, causing the driver to be ejected. It appears that Lewis was not wearing her seatbelt.
Marinda Lewis was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Estill County Coroner.
There were not any passengers in the vehicle.
Trooper Zach Pennington is the investigating officer and was assisted at the scene by the Estill County Rescue Squad, Estill County EMS and the Estill County Coroner.

Clairetta Berryman Bolton, age 72, of Lexington, Kentucky, wife of Bill Bolton, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the Willows of Hamburg.
She was born in Irvine, Kentucky, on September 28, 1941 to Grace Allen Berryman and the late Sheridan Berryman. She was a retired dental office manager. She grew up attending the Epperson First Church of God and then became a longtime member of the Winchester First United Methodist Church where she was active in the handbell choir and the chancel choir. Clairetta was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her husband and mother, Mrs. Bolton is survived by two daughters: Debbie Rose Slone (Garry) and Susan Rose Green (Steve); a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Williams (Bradley); a grandson, Lucas Green; a great granddaughter, Kinsley Williams; two sisters: Vivian Brumagen and Freida Creech (Jerry); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 16th at the Winchester First United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. by Rev. Jeff Carter. Burial will follow in the Fielder Cemetery in Estill County.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Creech, Tom Brumagen, Jody Creech, Hagan Rose, Lucas Green, Bradley Williams, Dave Ridgway, and Chris Brown.

Virginia Marinda “Randi” Lewis, age 39, of Train Alley in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014, as the result of an automobile accident.
She was born April 26, 1974 in Connersville, Indiana, and was the daughter of the late Berley Lewis and Irene Clark. She was a former home health care assistant and had lived in Estill County most of her life.
Ms. Lewis is survived by her son, Joe Snowden, Estill County; her adoptive mother, Sue Gross, Estill County; and two sisters: Rose Conrad, Indiana; and Jessica Clark, Berea.

Samuel Edward Tipton, age 69, of High Street, Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2014 at his home, after a long illness.
He was a native of Estill County, born April 12, 1944, a son of the late Mackey and Edna McIntosh Tipton. He was a retired police officer, former fire chief of Irvine, and former jailer of Estill County. He was a member of the the Stafford Lodge #562 F&AM, a member of the Kiwanis Club, a shriner, and also a member of the Millers Creek Church of God.
Mr. Tipton was preceded in death by his siblings: Mable Gibson, Mary Bunch, Ollie Estes, Blanch Tipton, Louise Tipton, Annie Horn, Betty Neal, Emma McIntosh, Violet Arvin, Dorothy Young; Thomas, Macky Jr., Joe, and Travis Tipton.
Survivors include his children: Billy Tipton (Shelia), Ed Tipton, and Delena Tipton; his sister, Katherine Smyth; his grandchildren: Corey Baker, Chesney Tipton, Stacey Tipton, Keyona Violet Tipton, Brook Robinson, Blair Robinson, Autumn Tipton, and Madalyn Tipton; his great grandchild, Tristann Robinson Stamper; a special nephew Tommy Arvin (Donna); and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 13th at Lewis Funeral Home, with Bro. Donnie Watson officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery, with Masonic Rites at graveside. Friends called anytime after 10:00 a.m., Sunday.

Jesus “Chuy” Reyes, age 44, of Rose Street in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.
He was born January 22, 1970 in Chamela, Jalisco, Mexico and was the son of the late Andres Pena Godoy and Marie Luisa Reyes Cobarruvias. He was a foreman with Tri-State Roofing and had lived in Estill County for the past 25 years.
Mr. Reyes is survived by his loving companion, Phyllis Ann; one daughter, Cheyann Nicole; two sisters: Maricella Pena Reyes and Alicia Pena Reyes; and six brothers: Ramon Pena Reyes, Andres Pena Reyes, Jose Pena Reyes, Adon Pena Reyes, Antonio Pena Reyes and Raul Lima Garcia.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 13th by Bro. David Watson at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at the Oakdale Cemetery. Friends called after 11:00 a.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.

Milly Jane McIntosh Roberts, 96, widow of Robert Roberts, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.
She was a native of Estill County, born April 6, 1918, a daughter of the late Lusby and Betty Richardson McIntosh. She was a retired employee of General Motors and a member of the Rice Station Christian Church. She loved traveling, working in her yard, and keeping her cars spotless.
Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her siblings: Enatheda McIntosh Melemore, Bessie Brady, Arvin McIntosh, and Lewis McIntosh.
Survivors include her brothers: Hayden and Lamon McIntosh, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 12th at Rice Station Christian Church with Bro. Kirt Scott officiating. Friends called anytime after 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at the church. Burial followed in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Boyd Jenkins, 79
Boyd Jenkins, age 79, of Red Lick Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, at the Madison Health and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
He was born July 27, 1934 in Estill County and was the son of the late Lonnie Morgan and Pebble Rice Jenkins. He was retired from the Estill County School System and was a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church. He was a former president of the Estill County Sportsman Club and had lived in Estill County all of his life.
Mr. Jenkins is survived by his wife, Madonna Brandenburg Jenkins; one son: Wesley Boyd Jenkins (Jerri), Estill County; one sister, Gertrude Combs, Estill County; three grandchildren: Kylie Morgan Jenkins, Trenton Jenkins and Trevor Jenkins.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 10th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Kevin Turpin. Burial was at the Joe Miller Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Wednesday, April 9th at the funeral home.

Rev. Paul Arvin, 81, Sugar Hollow Road in Irvine, Kentucky, husband of Anna Lois Smith Arvin, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Marcum & Wallace Hospital.
He was born October 3, 1932, a son of the late Nathaniel T. and Bertha Mae Richardson Arvin. He was a lifelong resident of Estill County and had been the pastor at South Irvine Pentecostal Church of God for over 52 years.
Mr. Arvin was preceded in death by his daughter, Charlene Arvin; his granddaughter, Alisha Arvin; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his sons: Gary W. Arvin (Becky) and Paul “Bird” Arvin (Monica); his daughters: Phyllis Rawlins (late husband Eck), Lois Harrison (Randall), Wanda Elliott (Steve), Elaine Duncan, and Brenda Aldridge (Bill); his brother, Beverly Arvin; his sister, Alice Lynch; 13 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 9th at the South Irvine Pentecostal Church of God with Bros. Todd Hignite, Jack Carpenter, Jerry Rose, Junior Mays, Beverly Arvin and Kenneth Bishop officiating. Burial followed in the South Irvine Cemetery. Virginia Woods Fike, age 75, of Georgetown, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the Georgetown Hospital after a long illness.
She was born September 6, 1938, in Estill County, the daughter of the late Willis and Pearlie Bea Henderson Woods. She was a retired accountant and had lived in Georgetown for the last 15 years. She was a member of the American Legion’s Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Fike is survived by her husband, Beverly Odell Fike; one daughter, Jennifer Maria Sanders (Scott), Louisville; one son, Jeffrey Michael Fike (Carin), Cincinnati; two sisters: Loretta Reynolds, Radcliff; and Mattie Cook, Georgetown; one brother, Billy Ray Woods, Irvine; and one grandchild, Kaitlyn Virginia Sanders.

Robert E. Glasson Jr., age 64, of Irvine, Kentucky, formerly of North Vernon, Indiana; died Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Marcum & Wallace Hospital in Irvine.
Born January 7, 1950 in Columbus, Robert was the son of Robert E. and JoAnn Southern Glasson.
Early in his career Robert had worked at Cummins Inc. for ten years. He then became an owner/operator of his own trucking business which he did for over thirty years. He was a member of Westport Baptist Church. He enjoyed going to auctions, working on old trucks, visiting with friends, and his little dog, Heidi.
He is survived by his mother, JoAnn Glasson of North Vernon; two sons: Robert E. Glasson III and Tracy J. Glasson (Connie), both of Irvine; three brothers: Kevin Glasson of Freedom, Michael (Heather) Glasson of Clarksville, Tennessee; and Bruce (Crystal) Glasson of North Vernon; two sisters: Linda Beck of Ft. Myers, Florida; and Janice (Russ) Parks of Greensburg; grandchildren, Katie Skelton; Tyler, Robert, and Dakota Glasson, and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father; and two brothers: Garold A. and Timothy B. Glasson.
A funeral service was conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 7th at Sawyer – Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service with Rev. Bob Weeks officiating. Interment was at Reddington Cemetery. Visitation was from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 6th at the funeral home.

Skyler Shelton, age 17 of Clarksville, Indiana; and formerly of Irvine, Kentucky; lost his battle with his disease on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. He was a fighter until the end and was supported by his loving family and friends who were with him until Jesus walked him home. Diagnosed at age 3 1/2 with Idiopathic Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis and later with Renal disease which was Mesangial Proliferative Glomerulosclerosis, Skyler beat the odds and lived a life without regrets.
He was born on August 17, 1996 in Richmond to Stephen Shelton and Quenna (Bowman) Gentry. He lived in Irvine, Kentucky, attending West Irvine and Estill Springs Elementary Schools and Estill County Middle School. In 2009, he moved with his mom to Clarksville, Indiana. Skyler had many loves in his life, but the greatest was racing. He raced the FWD #20 Orange and Blue car at the Sportsdrome Speedway in Jeffersonville and had won three races there. There he had many fans and friends who followed his racing as well as competed against him. He raced with a tough competitiveness, just as Dale Earnhardt, his NASCAR driver. Skyler also was a huge U.K. fan and rooted them all of the way to the final four. Now he can watch them win the National Championship from the best seat in the house. He also was a loyal supporter of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Skyler will be remembered for his selfless love for others and his infectious love of life. He was someone who didn’t allow the pains and setbacks of illness to slow him down. He held a positive attitude throughout and left our presence to a new life free of disease. He lived by his motto, “Sky’s the Limit”.
His survivors include his mom Quenna; his dad Stephen; Grandparents, Velma Jean Morris and Fred Hafley; Uncles, Billy (Jammie) Bowman, Jr, John Bowman and Theodore (Mary) Shelton; Aunts, Delia (Jeff) Henry, Lara Hafley and Sheryl Lurding; Sisters, Christy (Owen) Alvey, Evangeline Faith Banks, Elizabeth Banks (John) Dixon, Cheyenne Gentry, Destiny Gentry, Hope Gentry, Bridgette Gentry and Kaidence Heavyn Lee; Brother Landon Pierce Gentry; Nieces Breanna Alvey, Raylen Palmer Neal and his namesake, Kyra Danielle Sky Dixon; Nephews, Ryan Walter Cowguill and Benson Keith Kelly; Skyler was also survived by several other aunts, uncles, cousins and an extended Sportsdrome racing family. Visitation was held on Monday, April 7th, 2-8 p.m., and on Tuesday, April 8th, 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Southeast Christian Church in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The service was held at 1:00 p.m on Tuesday at Southeast Christian and following the service, Skyler took one last lap around the Sportsdrome Speedway. Skyler then made his way back home to Irvine, Kentucky for a visitation at the Irvine 1st Church of God on Wednesday, April 9th, from 2:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m. A service will be held there at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 10th at the church with burial to follow at the Puckett Cemetery in Irvine.

Helen Delores Million Arvin, age 72, of Berea, Kentucky, passed away Monday, March 31, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington after a long illness.
She was born August 27, 1941, in Woodford County, the daughter of the late William Gardner and Dora Lee West Million. She was a retired assembly line worker with the Plexus factory and had lived in Berea for the last 25 years. She was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Arvin was preceded in death by her husband, George Bain Arvin.
She is survived by three daughters: Cindy Lou King, Berea; Cathy Knox, Stanton; and Cheryl Arvin, Berea; four sons: Terry Layne Arvin, Berea; George Bain Arvin II, Winchester; William Nathaniel Arvin, Stanton; and Ernest Lee Arvin, California; one brother, Ernest Million, Danville; 16 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Nellie Wimmer; and one brother, Billy Million.

Jennis Travis “JT” Harris, age 81, of Mount Vernon, Kentucky, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014, at his home, following a long illness.
He was born January 7, 1933, in Greenville, North Carolina, the son of the late James Elie and Charlotte Mongino Harris. He made his home in Mt. Vernon for the past 14 1/2 years. He was a retired truck driver with FedEx and was a member of the Mt. Vernon Church of God. He served in the United States Army for two years.
Mr. Harris is survived by his wife, Margie Faye Donahue Harris; two daughters: Pattie Howard and Betty Haswell, both of North Carolina; one son, Travis Harris, North Carolina; one stepdaughter, Carolyn McKnight, Paint Lick; one stepson, Charles Franklin Walton, Mt. Vernon; one sister, Margaret Wilkes, North Carolina; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Betty Jean Wray Harris; seven brothers and four sisters.

He was born June 27, 1972, in Madison County, the son of Gary Lynn Freeman and Anna Sue Burns Webb. He was a self-employed construction worker and had lived in Estill County all of his life. He attended the Bethel Christian Church.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, are his grandmother, Edna Burns, Estill County; two daughters: Alesia Freeman and Sarah Freeman, both of Estill County; one sister, Deja Webb, New Castle, Kentucky; and one brother, James Reed, Estill County.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Lynn Freeman.

Nannie Eugene Combs Terry, age 87, of Berea, Kentucky, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at The Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was a Ravenna, Kentucky native, born October 22, 1926, daughter of the late Fitch and Lou Ellen Haddix Combs, and a homemaker.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, David and Freda Woosley; two grandchildren, David and Danny; two great grandchildren, Ko and Noa; one sister, Dorothy Jacobs; and one sister-in-law, Joyce Barnes Combs; as well as nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Noah Terry; and two brothers, John Combs and James Combs.
