Raymond Harold Allen, 80

    Raymond Harold Allen, age 80, of Tuttle Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, May 26, 2014, at the Marcum and Wallace Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
    He was born February 4, 1934, in Estill County, the son of the late Willie Allen and Alva Gabbard. He was a tool and die maker with Bundy Tubing and had lived in Estill County all of his life. He was a member of the Independent Church of God and a veteran of the United States Air Force.
    Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Elwanda Smyth Allen; one daughter, Ratonya Allen, Irvine; a sister-in-law, Wathena McKinney (Charles), Richmond; two brothers-in-law, Elwood Smyth (Reva), Florida; and Lyndon Smyth, Irvine; and an aunt and uncle, Marie and Windord Potts.
    Memorial services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, May 29th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. James Hicks with burial to follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Mattie Frances Jones Warner, 74

    Mattie Frances Jones Warner, age 74, of Spout Springs Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014, at the Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, following a long illness.
    She was born January 2, 1940 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Cleve Jones and Fannie Rucker Harris. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bethel Christian Church. She had lived in Estill County all of her life.
    Mrs. Warner is survived by her husband, Robert F. Warner; three daughters: Vanessa Rice (Dale), Helen L. Barnes (Scott), both of Irvine; and Miranda Wiseman (Ryan), Winchester; two sons: Charles Warner, Beattyville; and Russell Warner (Tangie), Irvine; three brothers: Wayne Jones, Ohio; Kenneth “Red” Jones, Lexington; and Gary “Pete” Jones, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and a special friend, Susan Barnes.
    She was preceded in death by four sisters: Helen Jones, Edna Sparks, Lillian Boone and Tootsie Scott; three brothers: Robert, Elbert and Stanley Jones; and one great grandchild.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 29th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Harvey Spry. Burial will be at the Salem Cemetery. Friends may call between 6 and 9 p.m., Wednesday, May 28th at the funeral home.

    Jonathan Tyler Rawlins, age 27, of Jeffersonville, Kentucky, formerly of Irvine, passed away Friday, May 23, 2014, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, following a long illness.
    He was born October 31, 1986 in Fayette County, Kentucky, and was the son of Kenny and Mary Nell Muncie Rawlins. He attended the Body of Christ and had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Survivors, in addition to his father and mother, include his grandmother, Evelyn Rawlins, Estill County; several aunts and uncles, and a host of friends
    Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 28th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Larry Frymyer and Bro. Bill Wesley. Burial will be at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m, Tuesday, May 27th at the funeral home.

Joshua Ray Witt, 32

    Joshua Ray Witt, age 32, of East St. Catherine Street in Louisville, Kentucky, passed away Friday, May 23, 2014, after a long illness.
    He was born March 26, 1982 in Madison County and was the son of David Alan and Donna Carol Noland Witt. He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Louisville. He enjoyed playing golf and excelled in sports for many years. Cooking was his talent and passion. He used that passion to serve and cook in the kitchen at Jefferson Baptist Center of Louisville for the past year. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Survivors, in addition to his father and mother, include his grandmother, Pauline Witt, Estill County; two sisters: Erica Mitchell (Chris), Estill County; and Lindsey Trent (Logan), Fayette County; one brother: Jamie Witt (Brenda), Estill County; three nieces: Keyairah Mitchell, Haylee Mitchell and Joy Witt; one great niece, Cloey Grace Moland; three aunts and two uncles.
    Mr. Witt was preceded in death by his grandparents: Ray & Beulah Noland and Estill Witt; and one brother, Gabriel Witt.
    Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 25th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. J.C. Tyson and Bro. Rob Steinbrook. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called after 1 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.

    Jessica Manis, age 22, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014 at her residence after a long illness with her family by her side.
    She was a graduate of Powell County High School and a loving mother.
    Jessica is survived by her grandmothers: Edna Manis and Nannie Jones, both of Clay City; her mother Virgie Cundiff of Clay City; her companion Mike Johnson of Clay City; two sons: Cameron Thomas and Carson Wayne Johnson of Clay City; one brother, Frank Thomas Manis (Kelly) of Clay City; two sisters: Jeanetta Elswick of Clay City and Savanah Aylen of Lexington; her "Brothers and Sisters in Heart:" Kimberly Hall (Jerimiah and Robbie) of Clay City, David Hawkins of Clay City, and Tiffany Hawkins ( J. Ruth Patrick

    Ruth Patrick, age 98, widow of Bascum Patrick, of Clay City, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Stanton Nursing Center.
    Born December 17, 1915 in Wolfe County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late William Carter Vancleve and the late Fannie Wyatt Vancleve.
    Mrs. Patrick was a former restaurant owner and operator, and she was a former member of the Powell County Women's Club. She was also a devoted member of the Clay City United Methodist Church.
    She is survived by one son, Ralph Patrick (Ruby) and one grandson, Darin Patrick, all of Clay City.
    In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Donald Wayne Patrick; a grandson, Jeffrey Patrick; seven brothers: Charlie Vancleve, Ernie Vancleve, Curney Vancleve, Ronald Vancleve, Truman Vancleve, Jess Vancleve and Ray Vancleve; and by five sisters: Ora Kouns, Virgie Brashear, Hazel Rhoten, Lou McKinney and Janie Sexton.
    Visitation began at 6:00 p.m., Friday, May 23rd and funeral services officiated by Rev. Kim Rose were held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 24th at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton. Interment was in Clay City-Eaton Cemetery alongside her husband, Bascum Patrick; with Cody Meadows, Barry Rose, Harry Fiethaus, Gary Morton, Ashley Kirk and Wayne Fortney serving as active pallbearers.

    Rickey Lee McIntosh, 61, husband of Carolyn Agee McIntosh, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014, at his home after a long illness.
    He was a native of Dayton, Ohio, born January 31, 1953, a son of the late Thomas and Blanche Neal McIntosh. He was a retired employee of Gem City Steel in Dayton, and was a United States Army veteran.
    Mr. McIntosh was preceded in death by his brother, Dwight Allen McIntosh.
    Survivors other than his wife Carolyn include his son, Jason Todd McIntosh; his daughters: Rickelle Lee Tomshany (Jason) and Krystal Lee Richardson (Mike); stepsons Gerald Collins, Michael Collins (Melissa “Lisa”), Brian Anglin (Andrea); stepdaughters, Melissa Gibson (Wayne) and Melissa Collins; and brothers: Gary Randell McIntosh (Sharon), Larry Glendon McIntosh, Bradley Clayton McIntosh (Teressa), and Thomas Albert McIntosh Jr.; 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.

John E. Gross, 81

    John E. Gross, age 81, of Beavercreek, Ohio; brother of Delmus G. "Bunt" Gross of Irvine, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Hospice of Dayton.
    He was born December 9, 1932, in Lee County, Kentucky, the son of Charles Maxwell and Emma D. Rogers Gross. He was a member of Alpha Baptist Church, and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Xenia Masonic Lodge, #49, Xenia Chapter #36, R.A.M., the Wright Council #96, R & SM, Nathaniel Greene Commandery #81, Knights Templar, and Aldora Chapter #262, O.E.S. He was a former volunteer with the Xenia Township Fire Department. He retired in 1994 from Duriron in Dayton after 44 years of employment.
    Mr. Gross is survived by his wife, Roxie (Marcum) Gross, whom he married, April 8, 1955; his children, Emma Ross (Mike), Beavercreek Township; and Tom (Blanche) Gross, Xenia, Ohio; four grandchildren, Dr. John Ross (Erin), Danville, Pennsylvania; Hanna Minges (Mike), Springboro, Ohio; Jeanne O’Callaghan (Dan), and Max Gross, all of Xenia, Ohio; five great grandchildren, Brenna, Ava, Lila, Tessa, and Danny; a sister and brother-in-law, Agnes & Larry Cretcher, Cherryvale, Kansas; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil Bob & Lee Gross, Farmersville, Ohio; and Delmus "Bunt" & Emily Gross, Irvine; by numerous nieces and nephews, and by many close friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a brother, Delbert Gross.
    John will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would especially like to thank the staff of VITAS Hospice, Hospice of Dayton, and Grandview Hospital, for their care during this difficult time.
    Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 23, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit Street, Xenia, Ohio. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home with Masonic services at 8 p.m. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Gardens.

    Albert Isaac (A.I.) Thomas, age 98, of Harris Ferry Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, after a short illness.
    He was born May 30, 1915 in Estill County and was the son of the late Scot and Rosie Skinner Thomas. He was retired from the United States Army where he served during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the VFW.
    Mr. Thomas is survived by: his wife: Milena Maria Zigmund Thomas; two sons: James Thomas, Jacksonville, Florida; and Edward Thomas, Johnson City, Tennessee; one brother: James Noland Thomas, Clark County; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by one son, Albert I. Thomas Jr.; and two sisters: Anna Lee Strubank and Audrey Thomas.

Ernest Eugene White

    Ernest Eugene (Gene) White, 90, devoted husband of 68 years to Bobby Jean Brandenburg White, died on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at his home.
    He was born in Lothair, Perry County, Kentucky on September 7, 1923, the son of Harlan H. and Bertha Mae York White. He was a veteran of World War II, serving his country in the 600th Squadron of the 398th Heavy Bombardment Group in the 8th Air Force of the United States Army Air Corp and was the recipient of six Bronze Stars for meritorious service in the European Theatre of Operation. He was retired from the Bluegrass Army Depot where his was Captain of Security. He was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 79, and the Irvine Masonic Lodge.
    Mr. White was preceded in death by his brother, Alfred (Marie) White; and his sister, Delores Faye Harris (Tommy).
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jane Wilson (Gordon), Irvine; and a son, Anthony White (Paula), Berea; six grandchildren, Angela Flynn (Gerald), Julie Richardson (Kevin), Rebecca Fowler, all of Irvine; Jason (Hillary) White, Stafford, Virginia; Joseph White (Laurie), Fairmont, West Virginia; and Nora Lewin (Toby), Felicity, Ohio; 12 great grandchildren; four great, great grandchildren; one sister, Lorraine Bush, Lothair; and one brother, Harlan White Jr. (Elaine), Lexington; a special family friend, Susan Hawkins, Irvine; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
    Visitation was Saturday, May 24th from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church with a memorial service conducted at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Anthony White, Joseph White, and Greg McClellan officiating.

Dorothy Lee Crowe Powell, 96

    Dorothy Lee Crowe Powell, age 96, of Elm Street in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014, at the Irvine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
    She was born February 4, 1918 in Powell County and was the daughter of the late Owen and Lelia Crowe Armitage. She was a retired seamstress with Loma Manufacturing and was a member of the Estill County Homemakers. She was a member of the White Oak Church of God and the church’s Ladies Home Mission.
    Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Raymond Powell.
    She is survived by three daughters: Mae Tibbs (Arliss), Brenda Smyth (Bill), both of Ohio; and Carolyn Powell (Greg), Estill County; two sons: Breck Powell (Libby) and Tommy Powell (Pearl), both of Estill County; 17 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 13 great, great grandchildren.
    Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by two brothers: Russell and Harold Armitage.

    She was born July 22, 1971 to the late Say Patrick and Dorothy Kilburn Patrick.
    Survivors include her mother, Dorothy Patrick; one son, Hunter Abner; two brothers: Sammy Patrick and Michael Patrick; one sister, Judy Bellamy; and a special Friend, Marty Abner.
    Ms. Patrick was preceded in death by her father and by a son, Dustin Pelfrey.

    J.B. Rogers, age 83, widower of Freda Rogers, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2014, at the Irvine, Kentucky, Nursing and Rehab Center.
    He was a native of Jackson County, born September 19, 1930, a son of the late Levi and Angeline Cain Rogers. He was a retired farmer, and a member of the Pine Hill Baptist Church.
    Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his brothers: Lester, Chester, Troy, and Delbert Rogers; and his sisters: Mayme Pearson, Myrtle Adkins, and Nancy Rogers.
    Survivors include his daughter Sharon Morris (Fudd); his granddaughter, Mary Beth Morris; his brothers: Everett and Junior Rogers; and his sister, Louise Anglin.

    Zelmadene Rogers, age 84, of South Main Avenue in Highland Heights, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2014, at her son’s home after a short illness.
    She was born April 5, 1930 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Hubert and Edna Estes Johnson. She had formerly worked as a beautician and was an employee of the Disabled American Veterans. She had lived in Campbell County most of her life.
    Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her husband, William Buford “Calvin” Rogers.
    She is survived by two daughters: Brenda Joyce Hanson (Gerhard), Dent, Minnesota; and Doris Lynn Satterley, Cincinnati, Ohio; one son, William Michael Rogers (Deborah), Crittenden; four sisters: Leora Smith, Campbell County; Sue Abney, Faye Stewart, both of Estill County; and Nancy Teegarden, Butler County; three brothers: Virgil “Buddy” Johnson, Bellevue; James Johnson and Dallas Johnson, both of Estill County; seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and six great, great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Woody Satterley; two sisters: Beulah Mae Mayse and Phyllis Jean Shouse; and one brother, Floyd Merril Johnson.

    Margaret Marie Ball Pitcher, age 81, of Waco, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.
    She was born in Estill County on November 6, 1932 to the late Elba A. and Florence Miller Ball. Mrs. Pitcher retired from Eastern Kentucky University as a Librarian Clerk. She deeply loved her family and enjoyed reading. She was a member of the Flatwoods Christian Church.
    On April 14, 1951, she united in marriage to Edward Pitcher, Jr. who preceded her in death in January 29, 1979.
    Survivors include her son, Michael E. Pitcher (Elizabeth) of Versailles; two daughters: Connie Dennis (Kenneth) and Sharon S. Mason (Gary), all of Waco; two brothers: Elba A. Ball Jr. (Pat) and Ray M. Ball (Louise); two sisters: Wanda Parker and Carolyn Hall (John); five grandchildren: Patrick Dennis, Kevin Dennis, Jeremy Mason, Ben Pitcher and Natalie Pitcher; two great granddaughters: Kristyn Dennis and Kandace Dennis; and several nieces and nephews.
    In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Pitcher was also preceded in death by: two sisters: Arveta Renfro and Geneva Hopper.
    Funeral Services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 17th at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 W. Main Street, Richmond, with Bro. Tim Jones officiating. Burial followed in the Flatwoods Cemetery.

Dennie Glenn Young

    Dennie Glenn Young, age 47, husband of Teresa Marcum Young, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at his home.
    He was a native of Estill County, a son of Earl Young and Joyce Marcum Young. Mr. Young was a former police officer in the Ravenna Police Department and a former Fire Chief with the Irvine Fire Department. He was a gun collector and also loved tinkering with radios.
    Survivors, other than his wife, Teresa, include his daughters: Stacy Young and Kayla Patrick (Bill); his parents, Earl Young (Ann), and Joyce Marcum Young; his siblings: Eddie Young (Deloris), Charlene Begley, Earl Young Jr, Wilma Rose (Terry), Stephanie Berryman (Jeff), and Kevin Young (Lila); his grandchildren: Taylor Patrick and William Ralph "Trey" Patrick, III; and special friends Shawn Moore, Chris Cox, and Ken White.
    Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 19th at Heritage Funeral Home, 237 North 2nd Street, Richmond. Visitation began at 10 a.m., Monday, at the funeral home.
