George Sparks, age 101, of Campbells Branch Road in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, after a short illness.
He was born April 4, 1913 in Estill County and was the son of the late Johnny and Ida Horn Sparks. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Ravenna Church of God. He had lived in Estill County all of his life.
Mr. Sparks was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Marie Morefield Sparks.
He is survived by one daughter, Lascenna McIntire (Mac), Bowling Green; one son, Garrett Sparks (Wanda), Somerset; one son-in-law, Tommy Henry, Estill County; two sisters: Lorene Adams, Richmond; and Virginia Phillips, Ashland; one brother, David Sparks, Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.
Mr. Sparks was preceded in death by three daughters: Viola Neal, Lelia Stepp, and Georgia Carol Henry; one son, Quintine Sparks; two sisters: Zella McIntosh and Meldavine Spicer; and five brothers: J.D., Tracy, Amos, Raymond and Clarence Sparks.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 2nd at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Tim Freeman and Bro. Delvin Reece. Burial was at the Barnes Cemetery. Friends called after 11:00 a.m., Monday, at the funeral home.

James Cole, 79, husband of Corrine Cole, passed away Wednesday, May 28 at his home.
He was born June 1, 1934 in Irvine to the late Sanford and Lucie Henry Cole.
Survivors include his wife, Corrine Neal Cole; three sons: Thomas Cole (Lisa), Irvine; Michael Cole, Clay City; and James Ray Cole, Irvine; four daughters: Wanda Compton (Phillip), Irvine; Phyllis Hoskins (Jayme), Alice O'Hair, both of Clay City; and Joyce Cole Hodgens, Georgia; a sister, Irene Yarber, Winchester; 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters: Sharon Powell and Debbie Rardin; and two brothers, Bobby Cole and Bill Cole.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 30th at Davis & Davis Funeral Home, Stanton. Visitation was after 12:00 Noon on Friday at the funeral home.

Brenda Kay Millard Cook, 55, of Irvine, Kentucky, the wife of Curtis Cook, passed away Tuesday evening, May 27, 2014.
She was born on March 25, 1959 in Washington, DC, the daughter of Mary Peak Tate and the late James W. Tate. She was a caregiver for hospice. Brenda was described as a strong willed lady. She loved her children and grandchildren. As a dedicated caregiver, she was always thoughtful of others, and would take care of anyone in need.
Survivors, in addition to her husband and mother, include one son, Dewayne Millard; two daughters: Jessica Westhoff (Ryan) and Sabrina Cook Hardy; one brother, Jimmy W. Tate; five sisters: Patricia Porteous, Cathy Munden, Kimberly Perez, Debbie Perry and Stacey Perryman; her grandchildren: Jonathan Millard, Michael Abner, Hayden Hardy, Breanna Millard, Katrina Millard, Tabitha Millard, Cecilia Strothman and Xavier Strothman; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one brother, Robert E. Millard.
Visitation was from 4-7 p.m., Friday, May 30th at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, Richmond, Kentucky; and from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, May 31st at Bradley Funeral Home, 307 Old Stage Road, Chilhowie, Virginia. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 31st at the Bradley Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Middlefork Cemetery.

She was born October 12, 1941 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Jesse and Della Walters Bailey. She was a homemaker and a member of the Gum Springs Church of God. She had lived in Estill County all of her life.
Mrs. Griggs is survived by her husband, Johnny Griggs; two sons: Todd Griggs (Elizabeth) and Emery Griggs (Leshia), both of Estill County; three sisters: Lodena Muncy (Charles), Mary South (Ray) and Betty Witt (Larry), all of Estill County; one brother, Jesse “Itzie” Bailey, Estill County; five grandchildren: Derek Griggs, Keegan Griggs, Brayden Griggs, Mason Griggs and Kayla Walters; and one great grandchild, Gauge Arrowood.

Mildred Louise Garrett Crouch, 91, widow of Roy Crouch, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. Crouch was a native of Estill County, a daughter of the late Sherman and Grace Snowden Garrett. She was the owner and operator of Crouch's Town & Country, clothing store, formerly located in downtown Irvine. She was a member of the Irvine First Christian Church for 80 years and was a member of the choir there. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, a 25-year-member of the 4-H council, the Estill County Golf Club, and a proud member of the Big Blue Nation.
She was preceded in death by her brothers: Robert, Doc, and Lyle Garrett; and her sister: Donna Williams.
Survivors include her daughters: Donna Watson (Sam), and Janene East (Skip); her son Larry Crouch (Dru); her grandchildren: Chris East, Shelly Sparks (Lonnie), and Lyle Crouch (Beth); her great grandchildren: Lauren East, Alyssa Sparks, Carrie Beth Crouch, Bryson Sparks, Benjamin Crouch, and Stella Crouch; her great, two great grandchildren: Savana Newton and Chance East-Rawlins; and many nieces and nephews that she loved.
Services were held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 30th at Lewis Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Humbert officiating. Burial followed in the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called anytime after 6:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.

Raymond Harold Allen, age 80, of Tuttle Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, May 26, 2014, at the Marcum and Wallace Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
He was born February 4, 1934, in Estill County, the son of the late Willie Allen and Alva Gabbard. He was a tool and die maker with Bundy Tubing and had lived in Estill County all of his life. He was a member of the Independent Church of God and a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Elwanda Smyth Allen; one daughter, Ratonya Allen, Irvine; a sister-in-law, Wathena McKinney (Charles), Richmond; two brothers-in-law, Elwood Smyth (Reva), Florida; and Lyndon Smyth, Irvine; and an aunt and uncle, Marie and Windord Potts.

She was born January 2, 1940 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Cleve Jones and Fannie Rucker Harris. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bethel Christian Church. She had lived in Estill County all of her life.
Mrs. Warner is survived by her husband, Robert F. Warner; three daughters: Vanessa Rice (Dale), Helen L. Barnes (Scott), both of Irvine; and Miranda Wiseman (Ryan), Winchester; two sons: Charles Warner, Beattyville; and Russell Warner (Tangie), Irvine; three brothers: Wayne Jones, Ohio; Kenneth “Red” Jones, Lexington; and Gary “Pete” Jones, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and a host of special friends and family .
She was preceded in death by four sisters: Helen Jones, Edna Sparks, Lillian Boone and Tootsie Scott; three brothers: Robert, Elbert and Stanley Jones; and one great grandchild.

Joshua Ray Witt, age 32, of East St. Catherine Street in Louisville, Kentucky, passed away Friday, May 23, 2014, after a long illness.
He was born March 26, 1982 in Madison County and was the son of David Alan and Donna Carol Noland Witt. He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Louisville. He enjoyed playing golf and excelled in sports for many years. Cooking was his talent and passion. He used that passion to serve and cook in the kitchen at Jefferson Baptist Center of Louisville for the past year. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
Survivors, in addition to his father and mother, include his grandmother, Pauline Witt, Estill County; two sisters: Erica Mitchell (Chris), Estill County; and Lindsey Trent (Logan), Fayette County; one brother: Jamie Witt (Brenda), Estill County; three nieces: Keyairah Mitchell, Haylee Mitchell and Joy Witt; one great niece, Cloey Grace Moland; three aunts and two uncles.
Mr. Witt was preceded in death by his grandparents: Ray & Beulah Noland and Estill Witt; and one brother, Gabriel Witt.

Ruth Patrick, age 98, widow of Bascum Patrick, of Clay City, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Stanton Nursing Center.
Born December 17, 1915 in Wolfe County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late William Carter Vancleve and the late Fannie Wyatt Vancleve.
Mrs. Patrick was a former restaurant owner and operator, and she was a former member of the Powell County Women's Club. She was also a devoted member of the Clay City United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one son, Ralph Patrick (Ruby) and one grandson, Darin Patrick, all of Clay City.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Donald Wayne Patrick; a grandson, Jeffrey Patrick; seven brothers: Charlie Vancleve, Ernie Vancleve, Curney Vancleve, Ronald Vancleve, Truman Vancleve, Jess Vancleve and Ray Vancleve; and by five sisters: Ora Kouns, Virgie Brashear, Hazel Rhoten, Lou McKinney and Janie Sexton.
Visitation began at 6:00 p.m., Friday, May 23rd and funeral services officiated by Rev. Kim Rose were held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 24th at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton. Rickey Lee McIntosh, 61, husband of Carolyn Agee McIntosh, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014, at his home after a long illness.
He was a native of Dayton, Ohio, born January 31, 1953, a son of the late Thomas and Blanche Neal McIntosh. He was a retired employee of Gem City Steel in Dayton, and was a United States Army veteran.
Mr. McIntosh was preceded in death by his brother, Dwight Allen McIntosh.
Survivors other than his wife Carolyn include his son, Jason Todd McIntosh; his daughters: Rickelle Lee Tomshany (Jason) and Krystal Lee Richardson (Mike); stepsons Gerald Collins, Michael Collins (Melissa “Lisa”), Brian Anglin (Andrea); stepdaughters, Melissa Gibson (Wayne) and Melissa Collins; and brothers: Gary Randell McIntosh (Sharon), Larry Glendon McIntosh, Bradley Clayton McIntosh (Teressa), and Thomas Albert McIntosh Jr.; 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.

KSP Charges Rockcastle County Woman With Sand Gap Bank Robbery

The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post has made an arrest of a Rockcastle woman, as part of an ongoing bank robbery investigation.
Sabrina N. Hensley, 29 years old of Orlando, KY is charged with Robbery 2nd Degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence. She was arrested today at 5:55 pm EDT, and is lodged at the Jackson County Detention Center. Hensley is alleged to have robbed the Jackson County Bank of Sand Gap by demanding money from teller. She then fled the scene in a vehicle that was waiting for her with an undisclosed amount of money.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Detective Rob Morris. He was assisted by KSP Post 7 and Post 11 personnel as well as the Mount Vernon Police Department.

Female Suspect Demands Money From Teller
The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post is investigating a robbery of the Jackson County Bank in Sand Gap, KY that occurred this afternoon around 3:30 pm EDT.
The initial investigation alleges that a female entered the bank and demanded that a bank teller give her money. The bank teller complied with her demands, at which time she fled the scene and got in the passenger seat of a vehicle that was waiting for her across the street.
The vehicle appears to be a gold or silver 4 door passenger car and was last seen traveling toward US 421. The suspect was wearing what appeared to be a pink or orange shirt and a light colored ball cap during the robbery.
Anyone with information about the possible suspect or vehicle are asked to contact the Kentucky State Police, Post 7 at 859-623-2404 or 1-800-222-5555.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Detective Rob Morris.

Winchester Road (KY-89N) Reduced To One Lane With Traffic Signal
Delays of 10-15 minutes expected
A section of KY 89 North in Estill County has been reduced to one lane with traffic controlled by temporary signals beginning yesterday, Tuesday, May 27, as work progresses on a safety improvement project on Winchester Road.
The affected area is between milepoints 15.5 and 16.0 (between Dry Ridge Road North and Dry Branch Road). The lane closure will be in effect for at least two weeks. Drivers should expect delays during the duration of the closure.
Signs and electronic message boards will be in place to alert motorists to the temporary signals and the lane closure.
Drivers should slow down as they approach this construction zone, watch for stopped traffic and obey the temporary traffic signals. Motorists are asked to be aware of workers, traffic control devices and construction equipment when traveling in this and other areas where projects are ongoing.
