Edna Arlene Isaacs Worrell, 83

    Edna Arlene Isaacs Worrell, 83, wife of Harold Worrell, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014, at the Irvine Health and Rehab Center.
    She was a native of Estill County, born March 27, 1931, a daughter of the late Leonard and Bethel Richardson Isaacs. She was a homemaker; and enjoyed sewing, making and selling handcrafts, and also spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Thomas Baptist Church.
    Mrs. Worrell was preceded in death by her siblings: Bobbie Jean Harrison, Annette Coyle, Jerry Isaacs, and Louella Rose.
    Survivors, other than her husband Harold, include her children: Mark Wayne Worrell (Becky), Gary Mitchell Worrell, Rhonda Jean Noland (Freddie), David Scott Worrell (Malissa), Debra Elaine Hunt, Timothy Harold Worrell (Connie); her brothers and sister: Harold Isaacs (Oral Lee), Marcella Doty, and Russell Isaacs (Pamela); her grandchildren: Nicholas Worrell, Logan Worrell, Chris Noland, Elisha Sorrell, John David Noland, Clarence Worrell, Julia Belle Worrell, Andrew Hunt, Ashley Carter, Amanda Smyth; and her great-grandchildren Brayden Noland, Morgan Sorrell, Gage Carter, Colt Carter, and Tyson Smyth.
    Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 12th, at Lewis Funeral Home, with Bro. Sherl Thomas and Bro. Ricky Kirby officiating. Burial will follow in the Miller Cemetery. Friends may call anytime after 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 11th at the funeral home.

Lois Jean Phipps Lainhart, 78

    Lois Jean Phipps Lainhart, age 78, of Locust Branch School Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014.
    She was born April 25, 1936 in Morgan County and was the daughter of the late Roy and Ruby May Phipps. She was a retired General Motors employee and attended the Irvine First Church of God.
    Mrs. Lainhart was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Lainhart.
    She is survived by three daughters: Vicki Christian, Terri McCarty (Bret), both of Ohio; and Michelle Fike (Steve), Clark County; one son, Robin Lainhart, Ohio; two brothers: Elza Phipps (Pam) and Phillip Phipps (Joann), both of Morgan County; one sister-in-law: Lois Phipps, Morgan County; 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by two brothers: Clark and Maynard Phipps.
    Funeral services were conducted at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, June 7th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Glennis Sizemore. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called after 2 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.

Joann Hinds, 48

    Joann Hinds, age 48, of Winchester Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a long illness.
    She was born September 2, 1965 in Woodbury, New Jersey, and was the daughter of Margaret Ranieri Leeds and the late Calvin Leeds. She was a former Carhartt Inc. employee.
    Ms. Hinds is survived by her husband, Mark Anthony Hinds; her mother, Margaret Ranieri Leeds; three daughters: Rachel Townsend (Nathan), Richmond; Sarah Riddell (Tyler) and Rebekah Romans, both of Irvine; one son, Andy Romans, Irvine; two stepchildren: Madison Hinds and Mark A. Hinds II, both of Irvine; three sisters: Loraine Natalino, Karen Crossley, both of New Jersey; and Cynthia Landwher, North Carolina; one brother, Calvin Leeds, New Jersey; and 12 grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
    Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 7th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Marvin Neal. Burial was at the Hinds Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Friday, June 6th at the funeral home.

Virgil Lee Patrick

    Virgil Lee Patrick, age 68, of Hatton Creek School Road, Stanton, Kentucky, passed away Monday, June 2, 2014 at UK Medical Center in Lexington.
    Born March 4, 1946 in Broward County, Florida, he was the son of the late Floyd and Lola Hardy Patrick. He was a retired heavy equipment operator with Central Rock Construction Company, a member of Local Heavy Equipment Operators Union 181; and he was a Powell County Honorary Deputy Sheriff.
    Virgil is survived by three brothers: Eugene Patrick (Jenny) and Billy Floyd Patrick, both of Clay City; and Roy Glen Patrick (Patty) of Stanton; one sister, Carolyn Sue Horn (Johnny) of Clay City; a special son, Steve Potts Jr. (Stephanie) of Mt. Sterling; and by four special grandchildren: Katelyn Potts, Natalie Potts, Steven Grant Potts and Madison Potts.
    Visitation began at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 5th and funeral services officiated by Rev. Teddy Linkous and Danny Rogers were held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, June 6th at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton. Interment was in Stonegate Cemetery with Dickie Littrell, Danny Martin, Paul Pelfrey, Danny Rogers, Roy Gibson, Bezel Hall, Randolph Goodwin and Roland Howard serving as active pallbearers.
    Honorary pallbearers were Sherry Skidmore, Charlie and Littie Goodwin, Vernon Goodwin, Garland Hall, Boyd Hall, Charlie Goodwin Jr. and Harry Burchfield.

Martha L. Brandenburg Crutcher Baxter, 74

    Martha L. Brandenburg Crutcher Baxter, 74, widow of George L. Baxter, passed away Sunday morning, June 1, 2014, at her home.
    She was born March 7, 1940, at Palmer, Kentucky, in Estill County, to Dorcie L. and Ida Lewis Tribble Brandenburg, both of whom preceded her in death. Martha was a retired court reporter, a member of Big Hill Christian Church and a dear friend to all who knew her.
    Survivors include two sons: Jim D. Crutcher (Stella) of Georgetown and Dan C. Crutcher (Daphne) of Richmond; four grandchildren: Crissi Crutcher Cheser (Will), Calah Crutcher Ford (Bill), Caleb Crutcher, and Kyle Crutcher; one brother, David Brandenburg (Betty) of Richmond; nephews: Todd Brandenburg and Alan Brandenburg (Kindra); great niece, Addison Brandenburg; and special loving friends, Jenny Blanton and husband Patrick.
    In addition to her parents and her husband, George Baxter, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mona Beagle.
    Services for Martha were held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 5th at Big Hill Christian Church with Pastor Jim Riggs officiating. Visitation was from 5 – 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 4th at the church.
    Interment at the Richmond Cemetery.
    Pallbearers were Will Cheser, Bill Ford, Caleb Crutcher, Kyle Crutcher, Todd Brandenburg and Alan Brandenburg.

Eula Mae Bailey, 90

    Eula Mae Bailey, age 90, of Winchester, Kentucky, widow of John Elza Bailey, passed away Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Clark Regional Medical Center.
    A native of Mt. Sterling, she was born March 26, 1924 to the late Everett and Augusta Beacraft Burgess. She was a member of the Forest Grove Christian Church.
    Mrs. Bailey is survived by her children: Alvin Bailey, James Bailey, and Lewis Bailey, all of Estill County; Janet Jones (John) of Bourbon County, Linda Messmear (Danny) of Winchester, Fred Bailey of Bourbon County, Brenda Dargavell (Raymond), Tammy Harris (George), both of Winchester; and Chanin Clem (Keith) of Bourbon County; grandchildren: Carolyn Morris (Craig), Tammy Costello, Johnnie Messmear, Christian Cummins, Linda Jackson, Krystal Hayes, Courtney Bailey, Amanda Jones (David), Katie Knight (Davis), Chasity Hall (Travis), Johnny Dargavell (Jessica), Brooklyn Harris, Alison Harris, Warren Harris, Robbie Clem, Haleigh Clem, Kenneth Bailey, and Alvin Bailey Jr.; and great grandchildren: Elijah Costello, Sierra, Chaddison, Sarai, Cassandra, Chaseton, and Rayburn Messmear, Kiayam and Micah Benavides, Kaleb Flinchum, Connor Lawson, JoAnna, Casper, and David Jones, David Knight, Keagon Dargavell, Easton Hall, and Johnathan Dargavell.
    She was preceded in death by two sons, Albert Eugene and Charles Ray Bailey; and one great granddaughter, Marian Costello.
    Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 3, at 1:00 p.m. at the Forest Grove Christian Church with Rev. Larry Deckard presiding. The family receive friends Monday, June 2nd, from 6p-8p, at the church. Burial was in the Bailey Family Cemetery in Clark County.
    Pallbearers were Christian Cummins, Johnny Dargavell, David Knight, David Jones, Travis Hall, and Marshall Watts.
    Honorary pallbearers were George Harris, Fred Bailey, Keith Clem, Lewis Bailey, John Jones, and Charlie Harvey.

George Sparks

    George Sparks, age 101, of Campbells Branch Road in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, after a short illness.
    He was born April 4, 1913 in Estill County and was the son of the late Johnny and Ida Horn Sparks. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Ravenna Church of God. He had lived in Estill County all of his life.
    Mr. Sparks was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Marie Morefield Sparks.
    He is survived by one daughter, Lascenna McIntire (Mac), Bowling Green; one son, Garrett Sparks (Wanda), Somerset; one son-in-law, Tommy Henry, Estill County; two sisters: Lorene Adams, Richmond; and Virginia Phillips, Ashland; one brother, David Sparks, Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.
    Mr. Sparks was preceded in death by three daughters: Viola Neal, Lelia Stepp, and Georgia Carol Henry; one son, Quintine Sparks; two sisters: Zella McIntosh and Meldavine Spicer; and five brothers: J.D., Tracy, Amos, Raymond and Clarence Sparks.
    Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 2nd at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Tim Freeman and Bro. Delvin Reece. Burial was at the Barnes Cemetery. Friends called after 11:00 a.m., Monday, at the funeral home.

James Cole

    James Cole, 79, husband of Corrine Cole, passed away Wednesday, May 28 at his home.
    He was born June 1, 1934 in Irvine to the late Sanford and Lucie Henry Cole.
    Survivors include his wife, Corrine Neal Cole; three sons: Thomas Cole (Lisa), Irvine; Michael Cole, Clay City; and James Ray Cole, Irvine; four daughters: Wanda Compton (Phillip), Irvine; Phyllis Hoskins (Jayme), Alice O'Hair, both of Clay City; and Joyce Cole Hodgens, Georgia; a sister, Irene Yarber, Winchester; 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters: Sharon Powell and Debbie Rardin; and two brothers, Bobby Cole and Bill Cole.
    Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 30th at Davis & Davis Funeral Home, Stanton. Visitation was after 12:00 Noon on Friday at the funeral home.

    Brenda Kay Millard Cook, 55, of Irvine, Kentucky, the wife of Curtis Cook, passed away Tuesday evening, May 27, 2014.
    She was born on March 25, 1959 in Washington, DC, the daughter of Mary Peak Tate and the late James W. Tate. She was a caregiver for hospice. Brenda was described as a strong willed lady. She loved her children and grandchildren. As a dedicated caregiver, she was always thoughtful of others, and would take care of anyone in need.
    Survivors, in addition to her husband and mother, include one son, Dewayne Millard; two daughters: Jessica Westhoff (Ryan) and Sabrina Cook Hardy; one brother, Jimmy W. Tate; five sisters: Patricia Porteous, Cathy Munden, Kimberly Perez, Debbie Perry and Stacey Perryman; her grandchildren: Jonathan Millard, Michael Abner, Hayden Hardy, Breanna Millard, Katrina Millard, Tabitha Millard, Cecilia Strothman and Xavier Strothman; and a host of other relatives and friends.
    In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one brother, Robert E. Millard.
    Visitation was from 4-7 p.m., Friday, May 30th at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, Richmond, Kentucky; and from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, May 31st at Bradley Funeral Home, 307 Old Stage Road, Chilhowie, Virginia. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 31st at the Bradley Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Middlefork Cemetery.

    Vivian Eudell Griggs, age 72, of Furnace Junction in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, after a long illness.
    She was born October 12, 1941 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Jesse and Della Walters Bailey. She was a homemaker and a member of the Gum Springs Church of God. She had lived in Estill County all of her life.
    Mrs. Griggs is survived by her husband, Johnny Griggs; two sons: Todd Griggs (Elizabeth) and Emery Griggs (Leshia), both of Estill County; three sisters: Lodena Muncy (Charles), Mary South (Ray) and Betty Witt (Larry), all of Estill County; one brother, Jesse “Itzie” Bailey, Estill County; five grandchildren: Derek Griggs, Keegan Griggs, Brayden Griggs, Mason Griggs and Kayla Walters; and one great grandchild, Gauge Arrowood.

Mildred Louise Crouch

    Mildred Louise Garrett Crouch, 91, widow of Roy Crouch, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Hospital after a long illness.
    Mrs. Crouch was a native of Estill County, a daughter of the late Sherman and Grace Snowden Garrett. She was the owner and operator of Crouch's Town & Country, clothing store, formerly located in downtown Irvine. She was a member of the Irvine First Christian Church for 80 years and was a member of the choir there. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, a 25-year-member of the 4-H council, the Estill County Golf Club, and a proud member of the Big Blue Nation.
    She was preceded in death by her brothers: Robert, Doc, and Lyle Garrett; and her sister: Donna Williams.
    Survivors include her daughters: Donna Watson (Sam), and Janene East (Skip); her son Larry Crouch (Dru); her grandchildren: Chris East, Shelly Sparks (Lonnie), and Lyle Crouch (Beth); her great grandchildren: Lauren East, Alyssa Sparks, Carrie Beth Crouch, Bryson Sparks, Benjamin Crouch, and Stella Crouch; her great, two great grandchildren: Savana Newton and Chance East-Rawlins; and many nieces and nephews that she loved.
    Services were held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 30th at Lewis Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Humbert officiating. Burial followed in the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called anytime after 6:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Chris East, Lyle Crouch, Lonnie Sparks, Jim Porter, William Durbin, and Steve Garrett.

KSP Charges Rockcastle County Woman With Sand Gap Bank Robbery

    The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post has made an arrest of a Rockcastle woman, as part of an ongoing bank robbery investigation.
    Sabrina N. Hensley, 29 years old of Orlando, KY is charged with Robbery 2nd Degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence. She was arrested today at 5:55 pm EDT, and is lodged at the Jackson County Detention Center. Hensley is alleged to have robbed the Jackson County Bank of Sand Gap by demanding money from teller. She then fled the scene in a vehicle that was waiting for her with an undisclosed amount of money.
    The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Detective Rob Morris. He was assisted by KSP Post 7 and Post 11 personnel as well as the Mount Vernon Police Department.

Female Suspect Demands Money From Teller
    The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post is investigating a robbery of the Jackson County Bank in Sand Gap, KY that occurred this afternoon around 3:30 pm EDT.
    The initial investigation alleges that a female entered the bank and demanded that a bank teller give her money. The bank teller complied with her demands, at which time she fled the scene and got in the passenger seat of a vehicle that was waiting for her across the street.
    The vehicle appears to be a gold or silver 4 door passenger car and was last seen traveling toward US 421. The suspect was wearing what appeared to be a pink or orange shirt and a light colored ball cap during the robbery.
    Anyone with information about the possible suspect or vehicle are asked to contact the Kentucky State Police, Post 7 at 859-623-2404 or 1-800-222-5555.
    The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Detective Rob Morris.

Winchester Road (KY-89N) Reduced To One Lane With Traffic Signal

Delays of 10-15 minutes expected
    A section of KY 89 North in Estill County has been reduced to one lane with traffic controlled by temporary signals beginning yesterday, Tuesday, May 27, as work progresses on a safety improvement project on Winchester Road.
    The affected area is between milepoints 15.5 and 16.0 (between Dry Ridge Road North and Dry Branch Road). The lane closure will be in effect for at least two weeks. Drivers should expect delays during the duration of the closure.
    Signs and electronic message boards will be in place to alert motorists to the temporary signals and the lane closure.
    Drivers should slow down as they approach this construction zone, watch for stopped traffic and obey the temporary traffic signals. Motorists are asked to be aware of workers, traffic control devices and construction equipment when traveling in this and other areas where projects are ongoing.
