Harry Glenn Thomas, 95

    Harry Glenn Thomas, age 95, a resident of the Pillars Masonic Home of Shelbyville, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at the Masonic Home, following a short illness.
    He was born August 7, 1919 in Estill County and was the son of the late Horace and Josephine Snowden Thomas. He was a retired clerk with the L&N Railroad and a member of the River Drive Christian Church where he served as a deacon and an elder. He was also a member of the Irvine Masonic Lodge #137 F&AM and had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Juanita Calmes Thomas; three grandchildren: Ryan Thomas, Ashley Thomas, and Marquis Thomas; all of Cincinnati; and one great grandchild, Madalynn Thomas, Cincinnati.
    He was preceded in death by his son, Harry Glenn Thomas Jr.; seven sisters: Lavene McClellan, Geneva Williams, Juanita Olendorf, Virginia Davis, Delaree Lewis, Lela Turner and Ella Tudor; and two brothers: Horace “Soapbox” Thomas and Edward Thomas.
    Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 16th at the River Drive Christian Church by Bro. Paul Groves. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called after 1:30 p.m., Saturday, at the church.
    Pallbearers were Ashley Thomas, Marquis Thomas, Ryan Thomas, Gary Estes, Tracy Adams and Gary Milkuhn.

Alisa Kay Snowden, 55

    Alisa Kay Snowden, age 55, of White Oak Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at her home.
    She was born June 4, 1959 in Madison County and was the daughter of Alice Katherine Henry Rogers and the late James Rogers. She was a former respiratory therapist and attended the White Oak Church of God. She had lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her sister, Holly Rogers, Estill County.
    Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 14th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Glyndon Woosley. Burial was at the White Oak Cemetery. Friends called after 11 a.m., Thursday, at the funeral Home.

Steven Wayne Hensley, 65

    Steven Wayne Hensley, age 65, of Versailles, Kentucky, husband of Evelyn Austin Hensley, died Thursday, July 31, 2014, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
    Born in Estill County, he was a son of the late Elmer and Mildred Smith Hensley. Steven was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a retired roofer and had worked for Tri-State Roofing for over 20 years.
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Anya Newton (Michael) of Bagdad; a son, Austin Hensley (Ann) of Versailles; two grandsons, Benjamin Sott and Matthew Eller of Versailles; five sisters: Brenda Webb of Berea, Patricia Carol Wilson (Bill) of Waco, Bettie Rose (Paul) of Irvine, Barbara Woosley (Walter) of Waco, and Peggie Abney (Herman) of Richmond; two brothers: Charles Hensley (Carol) of Waco, and Jeff Hensley (Karen) of Irvine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Larry Hensley; and a sister, Nancy Williams.

Brenda Hisel Fox, 59

    Brenda Hisel Fox was born January 27, 1955 in Jackson County, Kentucky, and departed this life Monday, August 11, 2014 at her residence, being 59 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Melvin & Iona (Lainhart) Hisel.
    Brenda is survived by her husband, Johnny Fox; and by two children: Mark Fox (Tracy) and Margie Colleen Harrison (Paul), both of McKee. She is also survived by a brother, Therman Hisel of Richmond; and by five sisters: Evelyn Collins of Drip Rock, Betty Isaacs of Irvine, Christine Harrison of Hisel, Bonnie Rogers of Richmond and Barbara Rogers of Hisel. Brenda was blessed with five grandchildren: Jordan & Travis Fox; and Tyler, Lyndsey & Triston Harrison; and by one great grandson, Colton Fox.
    In addition to her parents, Brenda was also preceded in death by two brothers: Elmer and Desmer Hisel; and by four sisters: Myrtle Hisel, Louise Lainhart, Cynthia Adkins and Ilean Rose.
    Brenda was a member of the Drip Rock Baptist Church.
    The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 13th at the Lakes Funeral Home, 1181 South Main Street in McKee, with Bro. Darrell Isaacs and Bro. Carl Dennis Williams officiating. Burial followed in the Hisel Cemetery.

Peggy Laverne Hall Bailey, 63

    Peggy Laverne Hall Bailey, age 63, of Elm Street in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2014, at her home following a short illness.
    She was born March 13, 1951 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Leslie and Edith Lee Hall. She was a special transportation driver with the Estill County School System and a member of the Millers Creek Church of God. She had lived in Estill County all of her life.
    Mrs. Bailey is survived by her husband: George Burton Bailey; one daughter, Tammy Cole (Lester), Estill County; one son, Patrick Bailey, Estill County; seven sisters: Jean Todd, Ohio; Ann McCoy, Estill County; Faye Freeman, Gloria Gabbard, both of Ohio; Nancy Bailey, Estill County; Brenda Baker and Linda Blythe, both of Northern Kentucky; two brothers: Roger Hall, Ohio; and Jim Hall, Estill County; six grandchildren: Eidy Hall, Lezley Dotson, Caleb Cole, Dylan Bailey, Jenna Bailey and Aidan Bailey; and two great grandchildren: Lauren Hall and Ashlyn Bailey.
    She was preceded in death by one sister, Darlene Hall.

Gary Wayne Muncie, 68

    Gary Wayne Muncie, age 68, of Judy Lane in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a short illness.
    He was born May 5, 1946 in Estill County and was the son of the late Clarence Muncie and Maude Rison Muncie Tipton. He was retired from Dayton Power and Light and was a former member of the National Guard.
    Mr. Muncie is survived by his wife, Vicki Lynn Crider Muncie; two sons: Robbie Muncie (Krissy) and Michael Muncie (Kristi), both of Estill County, two sisters: Ima Jean McIntosh (Leroy), North Carolina; and Faye Tipton (James), Lebanon, Ohio; two brothers: Rev. Jimmy Leon Muncie (Sharon), Winchester; and Bill Tipton (Lisa); Ohio, two brothers-in-law: Royce Ashcraft, Louisville; and Dave Markwell, Ohio; one sister-in-law: Brenda Muncie, Ohio; and five grandchildren: McKeely Jade Muncie, Michael Chase Muncie, Maci Elizabeth Muncie, Lexi McKay Muncie and Preslee Morgan Muncie.
    He was preceded in death by three sisters: Judy Ashcraft, Brenda Sue Markwell and Margaret Stamper(Ray); one brother, Bud Tipton; and his stepfather, Berlin Tipton.

Iline Collins Dickerson

    Iline Collins Dickerson, age 81, died Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, Kentucky.
    She was born August 1, 1933, in Sand Gap, Kentucky to the late George R. and Lettie May Powell Collins. She was of the Holiness faith and was retired as a custodian for Eastern Kentucky University.
    Mrs. Dickerson is survived by her daughters: Diane Losh (Rick) of Winchester, and Michelle Young (Faron Lee) of Jackson County; her son, Bobby Dickerson of Irvine; her brother, George Riley Collins Sr., of Connersville, Indiana; six grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death her husband, Rucker Dickerson; and two sisters.
    Funeral services for Mrs. Dickerson were at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 9th at the Davis & Powell Funeral Home, 616 Chestnut Street in Berea, with Bro. Harold Eads and Bro. Harry Revel officiating. Burial was in the Flatwoods Cemetery. Visitation was from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Friday, August 8th at the funeral home.

Shelby Douglas “Little Bit” Spencer, 42

    Shelby Douglas “Little Bit” Spencer, age 42, of Booneville, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington.
    He was a self-employed construction worker.
    Born November 11, 1972 in Estill County, Mr. Spencer is survived by his parents, Arvel Goosey and Viola Gail Spencer; one son, Skyler Rogers of Winchester, Indiana; three daughters: Shell and Racheal Carter of Florida and Laura Stover of Ohio; two brothers: Johnathan Spencer of Lee County and Kevin Goosey of Beattyville; four sisters: Victoria Faye Spencer of Indiana, Angel Marthella Morgan of Irvine, Monica Goosey of Tennessee and Tasha Goosey of Beattyville; and five grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by one sister, Dannelle Carter.
    Funeral services were held at 12 Noon, Monday, August 11th at The Grayson Funeral Home Chapel, 201 7th Avenue in Clay City. Friends visited 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Monday. Burial followed in the Sparks Cemetery in Booneville.

Reverend Robert Glenn “Bobby Glenn” Taylor, Sr., 71

    Reverend Robert Glenn “Bobby Glenn” Taylor, Sr., age 71, of Richmond, Kentucky, departed this life for his heavenly home on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Baptist Health in Lexington.
    Rev. Taylor was born in Madison County on September 6, 1942 to Kyle Glenmore and Mary Madaline Burgess Taylor. In 1960, he graduated from Model High School and went on to earn his B. A, M.A and Rank 1 from Eastern Kentucky University. For 16 years, he was a school teacher in Moores Hill, Indiana and went on to teach in Estill County, Kentucky for an additional 19 years. He accepted God’s call into ministry in 1984. He pastored Bethel Mission, now known as Eastside Community Church, in Richmond, and Gethsemane Baptist Church in Berea. His last pastorate, which was for 13 years, was at the Pilot Knob Missionary Baptist Church in Berea, where he remained a member. His greatest life achievements were serving the Lord in Madison County, as well as on the mission field in Africa and Central America.
    On April 1, 1973, he united in marriage to Mrs. Carol Parks Taylor who survives. They recently celebrated 41 years of marriage.
    Rev. Taylor is also survived by two sons: Rev. Robert Glenn Taylor, Jr. (Stefani) and Jonathan Reagan Taylor (Kelly); his daughter, Mari Ashley Taylor (Wes Burberry and children, Ryan and Grace), all of Richmond; six grandchildren: Kaitlin Rene' Baudendistel, Loran Kathleen Baudendistel, Dylan Robert Taylor, Katherine Reagan Taylor, Ethan Joseph Taylor and Natalie Summer Taylor, as well as a host of extended family and friends.
    In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother: Kenneth Taylor.
    Funeral Services were conducted at 11:00 a.m.. Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, 425 Eastern Bypass, Richmond with Rev. Robert G. Taylor, Jr., Rev. Joey Kays, Rev. Robert “Bob” Vickers, Rev. Bill Fort and Rev. Greg Lakes officiating. Burial followed in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation was from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m., Monday, August 11th at the church.
    Pallbearers were Martin Ramsay, Robert Helton, Ricky Clontz, David Eades, Gene Parks, Gary Parks, Jim Parks and Ricky Abney.
    Honorary pallbearers were the members of Pilot Knob Missionary Baptist Church.

Randall Donnie Turner, 72

    Randall Donnie Turner was born May 7, 1942 in Jackson County and departed this life Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at his residence, being 72 years of age. He was the son of the late Wiley & Sarah (Durham) Turner.
    Donnie was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta (Isaacs) Turner and by two sisters, Wanda Thompson and Barbara Isaacs.
    Donnie is survived by a brother, Charles Turner of Irvine; and by two sisters, Mae Coyle of Berea and Bonnie Malicote of Sand Gap. He was blessed with a host of nieces and nephews.
    Donnie was of the Holiness Faith. The funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Gray, Bro. Lester Isaacs and Bro. George Mullins officiating. Burial followed in the Holland-Isaacs Cemetery.

Marva Ann Hughes Fassas, 57

    Marva Ann Hughes Fassas, age 57, of Richmond, Kentucky; loving wife, mother, sister, and friend, ascended into a life of eternal light early Monday morning, August 4, 2014, surrounded by the love of her family.
    Marva was born on February 2, 1957, the daughter of Pauline Dunaway Hughes and the late Ray Hughes. She was a 1975 graduate of Madison Central High School. Her life of servitude toward others became evident following her graduation from Eastern Kentucky University in 1981 with a degree in social work. Everyone that knew Marva, knew of her love and desire to help others, which she did in so many ways. A lot of terms could be used to describe her; mother, homemaker but the term “encourager” would suit best. She was always encouraging, and showing her love and support of others.
    Marva was active in her day to day life. Not only as a wife and mother, she served her church and community, both locally and abroad. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Richmond. She actively volunteered for many organizations and committees. She had several active personal ministries, of which she gave the glory to the Lord.
    She, along with her husband, owned Red Hed Oil Company. The title on her business card reads “Head H.R. Cheerleader for Red Hed Oil”.
    Survivors include her loving husband, Alexander D. “Alex” Fassas; one son: Demetrius A. Fassas; a brother, Billy Ray Hughes (Janean); a brother-in-law, Tom Fassas (Robbin); a sister-in-law, Karen Fassas (Daryl Rogers); nieces and nephews: Shannon and Danna Snapp and their children, Ben and Bryce, Keary Snapp; Mindy and Brian Jump and their son Issac; Oliver and Traci Welch and their children, Holly, Tori and Olivia; and Matthew Fassas; as well as many other cousins and extended family members. She is also survived by her loving Golden Retriever; Mazy Grace.
    Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 7th at The First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Nettleton officiating. Burial followed in the Richmond Cemetery. The family received friends and relatives after 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 6th at the church.
    Serving as pallbearers were Oliver Welch, Shannon Snapp, Brian Jump, George Davis, Ben Snapp and Nick Dunaway.
    Honorary Pallbearers: We consider all those who were touched by Marva’s offering of life to consider yourselves as honorary pallbearers, on the final journey of her earthly body.
    A woman shining as bright as the sun, she recognized that it was not her light, but the light of the Lord that people saw in her. As the brilliance of the moon in simply a reflection of the sun, Marva’s life shone with the fire of love that comes only from God. Now, as her light has left this earth, the warmth of love that she brought into the lives of each person that she came into contact with remains a testament to her good will and compassion. Truly living as if there was no tomorrow, Marva gave all of herself each day. Out of the abundance which she found in life, she brought, she brought forth a wellspring of energy, unending in depth. Out of these living waters, she encouraged all people to drink. None were exempted from the boundless love that she so willingly shared.

Irvine Police Execute "Bust" At Garage

Five Persons Have Been Arrested
    The Irvine Police Department arrested several persons following a search warrant issued on Tuesday evening, August 5, 2014, at a garage located at 810 South Irvine Road. According to Irvine police, the location and events were placed in the highest priority because of the garage being less than 1,000 feet from a school, the South Irvine Pre-School/Kindergarten Center. All officers of the department including the K-9 unit were involved.
    Arrests made at the garage and afterwards stemmed from an investigation into the "high volume" of drug trafficking at this location.
    Among those arrested was Jack Cockrell, who was charged with five counts of trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree, one count of trafficking in a controlled substance 2nd degree, two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance 3rd degree, trafficking in a legend drug, and four counts of trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school.
    Thomas Scott Reeves, age 35, of 2482 McKee Road, was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree, trafficking in a controlled substance 2nd degree, trafficking in marijuana, trafficking within 1,000 feet of a school, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
    Cheryl Embs, age 46, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance 1st degree and possession of a controlled substance 3rd degree.
    Blaine Martin of Berea was issued on a citation for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
    George Fox, of Church House Hill Road in Irvine, was arrested on two unrelated Estill County District Court warrants of arrest for failing to appear in court.
    James Rose, of 860 South Irvine Road, was arrested on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 and charged with complicity to trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree and complicity to trafficking in a controlled substance within 1000 feet of a school. This was a contiunation of an investigation of drug activity at Rose's garage on South Irvine Road.
