KSP Issues Golden Alert For Elderly Madison County Man

A Golden Alert has been issued for Curtis “Curt” J. Rose 83, of Waco, KY. Mr. Rose suffers from stages of dementia and was last seen in the area of Dreyfus Road in Madison County at approximately 2:00 p.m. this afternoon.
Rose is described as a white male, approximately 6'1" tall and weighing 240 lbs. He has brown eyes, gray hair, and may be wearing glasses. Rose was last seen driving a Red 2011 GMC Sierra Extended Cab pickup, with a KY license plate of 101-MKF. The vehicle has damage to the right and left rear quarter panel and a diamond plated toolbox in the bed.
Anyone with information about a possible location of Curtis J. Rose is asked to contact the Kentucky State Police, Post 7 at 1-800-222-5555 or at 859-623-2404.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Trooper Aaron Hall.

KSP Conducts Fatal Shooting Investigation in Estill
The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post was contacted by Estill County Dispatch just after 10:30 pm last night, in reference to a male that had been shot on Sugar Hollow Road in Estill County.
The initial investigation indicates that Millard E. Dixon, 47 years old of Irvine, was fatally shot during an altercation with his elderly father. The shooting occurred inside his father’s residence at 115 Sugar Hollow Road in Irvine, just before 10:30 p.m. last night, Tuesday, January 27th. Following the shooting, Dixon was transported to Marcum and Wallace hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. There have not been any arrests made or charges filed against the shooter at this time.
The ongoing death investigation is being conducted by KSP Detective Zach Thompson.

KSP Conducts Death Investigation In Estill

The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post was contacted by the Estill County Sheriff’s Office just after 10:30 a.m., Saturday morning, in reference to a female that had been found deceased on Noland Creek Road in rural Estill County.
Personnel from the KSP Richmond Post responded to the scene and found the female victim laying on the side of the roadway with an apparent gunshot wound. The unidentified female was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Estill County Coroner.
The Kentucky State Police is asking anyone that saw any suspicious activity in the area or with any information to call (859) 623-2404 or toll free at (800) 222-5555.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Detective Jesse Armstrong. He was assisted at the scene by KSP Personnel, Estill County EMS, Estill County Sheriff’s Office, and the Estill County Coroner.
 Sunday morning, an autopsy was performed at the State Medical Examiner’s office in Frankfort, Ky. As a result of the autopsy, it was determined that the victim died as a result of a gunshot wound. The deceased victim has been identified as Ellen C. Townsend, 29 years old of Irvine.
 The ongoing investigation indicates Townsend was last seen in a silver Chrysler sedan with Ricky W. Conrad, 44 years old of Irvine.
 Also on Sunday morning, at approximately 10:30 am, Lexington Police Department located Ricky Conrad in a silver Chrysler sedan. Conrad was found deceased inside the vehicle, which was parked in the St. Joseph Hospital parking lot on N. Eagle Creek Drive in Lexington. The Lexington Police Department and the Fayette County Coroner are investigating Conrad’s death.
 While Lexington Police were conducting their initial investigation, they found personal property belonging to Ellen C. Townsend and a firearm inside the vehicle.
 The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Detective Jesse Armstrong.

KSP Investigates Shooting In Madison County
The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post is currently investigating an assault that sent one person to the hospital in Madison County. The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 pm this afternoon in front of 100 Hager Drive in Richmond, KY.
The initial investigation indicates that Brian L. Ditsch, 52 years old, and James R. Pierson, 63 years old, both of Richmond, were engaged in an argument in front of 100 Hager Drive. It is alleged that James Pierson retrieved a handgun from his vehicle during the argument and shot Brian Ditsch. Ditsch was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
James R. Pierson was arrested and charged with Assault 1st Degree, and has been lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Trooper Ken Bradley. He was assisted at the scene by KSP Personnel, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Richmond Police Department, and Madison County EMS.

Elbert “Burnam” Cox, 97
Elbert “Burnam” Cox, 97, of the Knob Lick community in Estill County, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015 at his homeplace where he was born.
Mr. Cox was born on October 15, 1917 in Estill County to the late Rollie and Mollie Harris Cox. He served his country as a Combat Medic in the United States Army, and was a life-long farmer. He was a member of the Panola Baptist Church.
Mr. Cox was the widower of Darlene Chrisman Cox who passed away in 1953.
Survivors include: his son, Larry R. Cox (Peggy); two granddaughters: Tina Lynch (James) and Amanda Gibson (Jason); and six great-grandchildren: Ashley Lynch, Makena Cox, Micah Lynch, Taylor Gibson, Logan Gibson and Izzy Gibson.
Mr. Cox was also preceded in death by his three brothers, Dewey, Ralph and Clyde Cox.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Monday, February 2nd at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street, Richmond, with Rev. James Chrisman officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m., Sunday, February 1st at the funeral home.

Freda Mae Patrick Gaylord, age 76, of Stanton, Kentucky, widow of Russell Gaylord, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, with her family at her side.
She was born December 18, 1938, in Powell County, the daughter of the late General and Flora Tipton Patrick. She was retired from Sylvania and was a member of the West Bend Church of God where she was a Sunday school teacher for years. Freda loved her church and church family and spent her last full day here on earth at church with the ones she loved so dearly.
Mrs. Gaylord is survived by four daughters: Karen Kirk of Stanton, Connie Reed (Hugh) of Clay City, Vickie Miller (Chris) of Atlanta, Texas; and Kathy Catron (Donald) of Stanton; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two brothers: Hubert Patrick of Clay City and Raymond Patrick of Stanton; and six sisters: Irene Tapp of Oklahoma, Patty Patrick of Irvine, Emma Lee Estes of Beattyville, Velma Estes of Beattyville, Charlene Warner of Irvine, and Bobbi Mulford of Stanton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, General and Flora Patrick; her husband, Russell Gaylord; two brothers: Allen Patrick and Elmer Joe Patrick; and one sister, Mary Ethel Warner.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, January 31st at the West Bend Church of God with Bro. Ray Wyatt officiating. Friends may visit Friday, January 30th at the church from 5-9 p.m. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery.

Millard Edward Dixon, age 47, of Sugar Hollow Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 28, 1967 in Estill County and was the son of Donna Arvin Dixon. He was a logger and had lived in Estill County all of his life.
Mr. Dixon is survived by his mother, Donna Arvin Dixon; one daughter, Alicia Marie Dixon, Estill County; one son, Johnathon Dixon, Estill County; five grandchildren: Calijah Stone, Chase Stone, Christopher Stone, Kyra Danielle Dixon and Benson Kelley; his fiancé, Crystal Rawlins; and one step-son, Jaxon Rawlins.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Marvin Ray Dixon and Anthony Kyle Dixon.

J.B. Meadors, 86, of Madison Hills, Richmond, Kentucky, a former employee of Meade’s Do-It-Center in Irvine, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, after a sudden illness.
He was a native of Corbin, born November 28, 1928, the son of the late James and Martha Kidd Meadors. Mr. Meadors was the former owner of Waco Carpet, which he founded in 1984. He also worked at General Electric in Louisville, in addition to Meade's. He was a member of a protestant congregation in Madison County. He was a former member of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce, and enjoyed fishing, and the outdoors.
Mr. Meadors was preceded in death by his siblings: Buford, Cy, and Ethel.
Survivors include his son, Michael Meadows (Denise) of Richmond; his daughters: Nancy Zils (James) of Goshen, Kentucky, and Sherie Gower (Art) of Louisville; his brothers: J.M and Lin Meadors; his sisters: Stella Elias, Hazel Rich, and Bobbi Ferguson; his grandchildren: Matthew, Micah, Jennifer, Justus, and Hope; and his great-grandchild, Vespera.
Services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, January 31st at Heritage Funeral Home, 237 North 2nd Street in Richmond. Friends may call Friday, January 30th, 4-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Louisville on Monday, February 2nd.

Elizabeth Cox Rowland, age 92, of Britton Drive in Piqua, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 25, 2015, at the Piqua Manor.
She was born May 28, 1922 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late William and Mary Moore Cox. She was a retired cook and had lived in Estill County most of her life.
Mrs. Rowland was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Rowland.
She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Jean Wood (William), Piqua, Ohio; one sister, Eva Cornett, Ravenna; one grandchild, Toni Marie Billings Schmidt (Curtis) Piqua, Ohio; and two great grandchildren: Piper Elizabeth Schmidt and Jayde Rochelle Wood.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Emma Cox Daniels; and two brothers: Raymond and Lester Cox.

Ellen Charlene Townsend, age 29, of Broadway in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2015.
She was born August 7, 1985 in Madison County and was the daughter of Erville Townsend and Opal McIntosh Mays. She was a Wendy’s employee and attended the Full Gospel Evangelistic Ministry. She had lived in Estill County all of her life.
Ms. Townsend is survived by her mother & step-father: Opal McIntosh Mays & Tommy, Irvine; her father, Erville Townsend, Mt. Vernon; two daughters: Kendra Clark and Sierra Comley, at home; one son, Brady Comley, at home; one sister, Connie Pheanis, Mt. Vernon; and three brothers: Erville Townsend Jr., Estill County; Michael McIntosh, Lee County; and Nelson Townsend, Estill County.

Gerald Keith Bush Jr, age 47, of Clay City, Kentucky, passed away Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Clark Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 3, 1967 in Wolfe County, Kentucky, the son of Gerald Sr. and Ruth A. Edwards Bush. He was a handyman to many.
Mr. Bush is survived by one daughter, Carman Bush, of Castle, Indiana; three brothers: William Pasley of Clay City, Terry Bush and Wayne Bush of Nicholasville; and one sister, Peggy Bush of Nicholasville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Sr. and Ruth Bush. Gerald was the great grandson of the late Callie Dickerson Thacker of Cobb Hill.

Melinda Alice Arvin Lynch, age 101, widow of Vernon Lynch, departed from this life on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. in her home.
She was born on April 3, 1913 in Estill County to the late Nathaniel Thornton and Mary Catherine Arvin. Her stepmother was Bertha Richardson Arvin. She was a homemaker and a member of the Ford Christian Church.
Survivors include her daughter & caregiver, Ella Bee Lynch of Clark County; Melvin Lynch (Marjorie) of Mason County, Charles Lynch (Alma), Douglas Lynch (Regina), and Mary Kate Jones (Garrett); special granddaughter and caregiver, Billie Roy (Roger) of Madison County; 32 grandchildren; 73 great grandchildren; 57 great-great grandchildren; her brother, Beverly Arvin (Miranda) of Estill County; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family that preceded her in death includes her children: Harold, William, Burgin, Banford, Marvin, Dorothy, Diana, Maydeen Cobb, and Jane Dickerson.
Other Children she helped raise include Imogene, Jennie, Coley, Vernon Jr., Mendle, Danny, Dennie, Dennis, and Darlene.

Brian Keith Tipton, age 49, of Lynch Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
He was born July 13, 1965 in Madison County and was the son of Jerry Tipton and the late Phyllis Jean Abshear Tipton. He was a Holt Equipment employee and was a former member of the Kentucky National Guard. Brian was a member of the Green Pastures Church and had lived in Estill County all of his life.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include his wife, Tammy Kaye Rogers Tipton; two daughters: Alma Nicole Cackling (Tristan), Estill County; and Jena Marie Wells (James), Powell County; two sons: Derek Levi Tipton and Brian Aaron Bruce Tipton (Ariel), both of Estill County; two sisters: Debbie Dunaway and Etta Tipton, both of Estill County; one brother, Jerry Sparks, Florida; and eleven grandchildren.

Norwood (Cotton)Thorpe of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, January 19, 2015, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington at the age of 81.
He was born March 5, 1933 at Torrent, Kentucky, to the late Robert and Amanda Bush Thorpe. Norwood graduated from Lee County High School in 1953. After graduation he was drafted into the Marines, where he served two years. After retirement he became an active member of the Bluegrass Marine Detachment 1012 in Richmond. He worked 36 years for L&N/CSX Railroad, earning his 35 year pin. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers & Trainmen and a charter member of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad Historical Society.
Mr. Thorpe was a continuous supporter of his sons’ Boy Scout and Little League Ball programs. As a member of Salem Baptist Church, he served as an usher and in any other capacity when needed. He was a member of Irvine Masonic Lodge 137 and also a former member of Oleika Shrine, Lexington, KY. His passion was in history and genealogy. He helped to organize Estill County’s Historical Society, becoming its first president, serving two different sessions. He also was the editor of their newsletter since the beginning. Norwood compiled several books for the Society and churches. One he really enjoyed doing was "A Brief History of the Boone’s Creek Association of Southern Baptist Churches". He was granted a patent from the United States Patent Office for his Hydraulic Interlocking Fuel Nozzle he invented in 2009.
On August 5, 1958, he married Floretta Phillips. They were married 56 years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons: Dennis Thorpe, Lexington; David Thorpe (Shawny), St. Mary’s, Georgia; and Douglas Thorpe (Jenny), Mt. Sterling; one daughter, Dianne Thorpe Smith (Jerry), Irvine; eight grandchildren: Andy Thorpe, Meghan Thorpe Lucido, Autumn Thorpe, Allison Thorpe, Phillip Smith, Matthew Smith, Fox Thorpe and Seth Thorpe; two brothers: William H. Thorpe, Panama City Beach, Florida; and Robert Thorpe (Irene), Beattyville; and one sister, Brenda Knollman (Mike).
Mr. Thorpe was preceded in death by one sister, Erma Combs (Bert) and one brother, Jack Thorpe.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 23rd at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Jerry Smith. Burial was at the Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors at the graveside by the Bluegrass Marine Detachment #1012 from Richmond. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Thursday, January 22nd at funeral home.

Harold Ray Neal, age 63, of Jacqueline Court in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015, at the Marcum and Wallace Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
He was born November 20, 1951 in Estill County, the son of the late Mid and Pearline Riddell Neal. He was a farmer and a carpenter and had lived in Estill County all of his life.
Mr. Neal is survived by his wife, Patsy Lynn Riddell Neal; four daughters: Tonya Neal, Donea Barnes, Regina Neal and Kristin Neal, all of Estill County; one son: Gregory Neal, Estill County; two sisters: Rebecca Staton, Estill County; and Mary Shannon, Paris; four brothers: Hubert Reece, Tennessee; Larry Neal, Estill County; Kenneth Neal, Stanton; and Darrell Neal, Estill County; and ten grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons: Brian Ray Neal and Brandon Scott Neal.

Hobert Russell, age 69, was born February 15, 1945 in Jackson County and departed this life Sunday, January 18, 2015 at the Marcum Wallace Hospital in Irvine. He was the son of the late Johnny & Myrtle Russell.
Hobert is survived by his wife, Joyce Russell of McKee; two children: Nada Rose (Russell) of Berea and Dale Russell and his fiancé Tasha Burton of McKee; one granddaughter, Kaitlin Russell; and one great granddaughter, Madeline, of Connersville, Indiana. He is also survived by three brothers, Herlon D. Russell (Patty) of Indiana; Hershel Russell (Eva) and Herbert Russell (Jeannie), all of McKee; and by one sister, Opal Gabbard of McKee.
In addition to his parents, Hobert was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Russell and Herman Russell, both of Indiana.
Hobert was of the Holiness Faith.

Mavis Lynch Ashcraft, age 74, and widow of Edward, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at her residence in Beattyville, Kentucky.
Mavis was born July 30, 1939 in Beattyville, Kentucky, a daughter to the late Vance and Josie (Young) Lynch. She was a retired housekeeping custodian with the Lee County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Beattyville with 36 years of faithful service. She was a member of the Beattyville First Church of God.
She is survived by two sons: Johnny Ashcraft (Rosie) of Heidelberg, and Jimmy Ashcraft (Debbie) of Richmond; four daughters: Joyce Ashcraft of Heidelberg, Evelyn Ashcraft-Hollon, Margaret Chatt, both of Beattyville; and Judy Kirby (Tommy) of Irvine; one brother, Ernie Lee Riley of Lexington; one sister, Lorenda Jewell (Noah) of Beattyville; 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; along with many other loving family members and friends.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, two brothers: Marcus Lynch and Danny Riley; and one sister; Juanita Riley.
Graveside funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 20th at the Ashcraft Family Cemetery located in the Fairground Ridge community of Lee County, with Pastor Garett Thomas and Brenda White officiating.
