Kennedy Flynn Scores 3,000th Point Against Harrison County

    The game between Estill and Harrison County was stopped on Monday night to recognize Kennedy Flynn for having scored 3,000 points in her high school career. Kennedy is second in the state in scoring with over 27 points per game including 27 on Monday night, which gave her a total of 3,011 so far. Kennedy scored 1,222 in middle school, playing only in grades 6, 7 and 8. She is the daughter of Gina and Greg Flynn.

    Kennedy Flynn, senior guard for the Estill County Lady Engineers, has dropped to 3rd place in statewide scoring with 27.1 points per game average after being passed by Brianna Burbridge of Frankfort who is averaging 27.8 points after 22 games.
    Hot-shooting Whitney Creech of Jenkins now averages 42.3 points per game to continue to lead the statewide scoring.
    Flynn scored 36 points in a hard-fought trouncing of the Hazard Lady Bulldogs, 62-44, the previous Saturday at Hazard.
    Kennedy improved her average to 27.22 last week with 33, 32, and 28 against Menifee, Lee and Pendleton counties. Estill scored 59 points in all three games, losing by one to Menifee, winning by 10 over Lee, and losing by 20 on Saturday to Pendleton. She scored 27 on Monday in an overtime loss to Harrison County.

Sudie Maye Wasson Adams, 65

    Sudie Maye Wasson Adams, age 65, of Reges Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015, at the Baptist Health Richmond following a long illness.
    She was born March 13, 1949 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Algin Wasson Sr. and Alice Maye Wright Wasson. She was a former employee of Eastern Kentucky University and the Estill County Head Start. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church and had lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Mrs. Adams is survived by her husband, Doug Adams; two daughters: Charlotte Willis (Bobby Wayne) and Christy Horn (Don), both of Irvine; two sisters: Mary Shuler and Josephine Wasson, both of Irvine; three brothers: Junior Wasson, Berea; John Wasson and Oscar Wasson, both of Richmond; and four grandchildren: Jacquline Horn, Dalton Horn, MaKayla Horn and Hope Willis.
    She was preceded in death by two sisters: Allene & Beulah Wasson; and two brothers: Bert and Clay Wasson.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 9th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Mike Chism, Bro. Butch Arvin and Bro. Mark Pearson. Burial will be at the Mt. Canaan Cemetery. Friends may call between 6 and 9 p.m., Sunday, March 8th at the funeral home.

Jennifer Gail Harrison, 59

    Jennifer Gail Harrison, age 59, of Main Street in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, following a long illness.
    She was born October 16, 1955 in Madison County and was the daughter of Virginia Lee Morris Harrison and the late Herman Harrison. She was a former employee of Wintech and had lived in Montgomery County most of her life.
    Ms. Harrison is survived by her mother, Virginia Lee Morris Harrison; one son, William Allen Harrison, Fayette County; one brother: Michael Dale Harrison, Estill County; and two grandchildren: Andrew and Ashton Harrison.
    She was preceded in death by one brother, Greg Harrison.
    Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Timothy Scott Matheny

    Timothy Scott Matheny, age 44, of Winchester, Kentucky, died Sunday, March 1, 2015 at his residence.
    He was the owner of Tim’s Tree Service and a member of the Ark of Mercy Church.
    Mr. Matheny is survived by his father Clayton, Matheny (Barbara) of Louisville; his mother, Myrtle L. Claypool (Clarence) of Winchester; three sons: Justin Matheny of Louisville, Hunter Matheny of Winchester, and Conner Matheny of Irvine; two brothers: Clayton Matheny Jr. of Brandenburg and Bryan Matheny (Stephanie) of Louisville; four stepbrothers: Chris Caldwell, Steve Caldwell, both of Louisville; Clarence Claypool Jr. of Mt. Sterling; and Stephen Claypool of Louisville; one sister, Teresa Munic of North Middletown; two step-sisters: Rhonda Claypool Brandenburg and Rose Tallarigo of Frenchburg; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 3rd at the Ark Of Mercy Church in Winchester with Pastor Chad Keathley officiating. Friends visited Tuesday, from 5 p.m. untill time of the service at the church.

Brenda M. Tuttle Wolfinbarger, 60

    Brenda M. Tuttle Wolfinbarger, age 60, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, Kentucky, after a long illness.
    She was a native of Estill County, born January 11, 1955, a daughter of the late Bergin Sr. and Dovie Wood Tuttle. Mrs. Wolfinbarger was a financial analyst for the Lockheed-Martin company. She was a member of the Cobb Hill Crossroad Community Church and enjoyed sewing, quilting, University of Kentucky sports, her children and grandchildren.
    Mrs. Wolfinbarger was preceded in death by her brother, John Franklin Tuttle; her sister, Bertha Ann Tuttle; and her grandson, Dalton Peters.
    Survivors include her daughters: Melissa Patrick (Woody) and Michelle Wolfinbarger; her sisters: Elizabeth Townsend, Janice McKinney, Linda Palmer (Johnny), Arleen Hall (Bill), Mary Joyce Karvosky, and Suette Morguson; her brother, Bergin Tuttle (Gladys); her grandchildren: Kayla Patrick, Dillon Day, and Jonathon Bruner; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
    Services were held Wednesday, March 4th at 1:00 p.m. at the Lewis Funeral Home with Bro. Elwood Patrick officiating. Burial followed in the Woods Cemetery. Friends called anytime after 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 3rd at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Woody Patrick, Dillon Day, Kevin Palmer, Kelly Palmer, Phillip Sizemore, and Randy Shumate.

Karel W. Hardy, 76

    Karel W. Hardy, age 76, husband of Shelby Jean Miller Hardy, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015 at his home.
    He was born on January 17, 1939 in Estill County to the late James Clark and Mary Bush Hardy. He retired from Leggett and Platt and begin to work for Goody's where he worked for 11 years.
    In addition to his wife, Mr. Hardy is survived by one daughter, Robyn Michelle Jones (Randy) of Winchester; two grandsons: Dylan and Mathew Jones, both of Winchester; one sister, Marion Bush Hardy of Richmond; one brother, Kenneth Hardy of Louisiana; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Services were at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday March 3rd at Scobee Funeral Home, 219 West Lexington Avenue, Winchester, by Bro. Gary Brown. Burial was in the Boonesboro Cemetery. Visitation was 6-8 p.m., Monday, March 2nd at the funeral.

Kalien Luke Moore

    Kalien Luke Moore, age 31, of Carrollton, Kentucky, died on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
    He was born on May 31, 1983 in Carrollton, Carroll County, Kentucky, the son of Joseph Vetek and Kathy Moore of Carrollton. He was a laborer and of the Baptist faith.
    Mr. Moore is survived by his father, Joseph Vetek; and his mother, Kathy Moore of Carrollton; his fiancee', Tonya Lynch of Carrollton; a step-daughter, Cheyenne Key of Carrollton; three brothers: Wisdom Moore of Worthville, Samuel Moore and Seth Moore, both of Carrollton; two sisters: Dodie Gomez of Carrollton and Rebekah Moore of Sanders.
    He was preceded in death by a brother, Kain Levi Moore.
    A graveside dervice was held on Wednesday, March 4th at 11:00 a.m. at the English Cemetery in Carrollton. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday March 3rd at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton. Burial was in the English Cemetery in Carrollton.

    Phillip Michael Larrison, age 22, of Kimball Road in Irvine, Kentucky, born August 22, 1992, son of Willie and Jennifer Larrison, passed away Monday, February 23, 2015.
    Survivors, other than his parents, include his daughters, Hailey and Hannah Larrison; his brother, Thomas Addison (Brittany); a sister Megan Addison and her fiance’ Dwayne Tipton; his nephew, Jared Addison; his grandparents: Betty Larrison and Bertha Riddell; special friend, Leann Stepp; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
    Services were held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, February 28th at the Lewis Funeral Home, with Bro. Marvin Neal officiating. Burial followed in the Gary Riddell Memorial Cemetery. Friends called after 6:00 p.m., Friday, February 27th at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Willie Larrison, Thomas Addison, Terry Larrison, Joe Baker, Stanley Means, and Kenneth Brooks.

Orlan Leon “Buddy” Riddell, 83

    Orlan Leon “Buddy” Riddell, age 83, of Winston Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015, at his home following a long illness.
    He was born September 20, 1931 in Madison County and was the son of the late Dallas and Mildred Riddell. He was a retired mason and a member of the Providence Baptist Church. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Riddell was preceded in death by his wife, Cletta Stone Riddell.
    He is survived by three daughters: Patsy Neal, Dianne Reynolds (Lonnie), and Sheala Fields, all of Estill County; one son: Michael Riddell, Madison County; two sisters: Dean Hall and Doris Hall, both of Estill County; ten grandchildren: Brad Reynolds, Kristina Fox, Tonya Neal, Donea Barnes, Greg Neal, Kristin Neal, Regina Neal, Dylan Fields, Dustin Fields and Terry Gibson; and several great grandchildren.
    Mr. Riddell was preceded in death by three grandchildren: Brandon and Brian Neal and Ricky Gibson.
    Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 25th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Bill VanWinkle and Bro. Kyle Knight. Burial was at the Turpin Cemetery. Friends called after 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Charlie Allen Birch, 90

    Charlie Allen Birch, 90, of Winchester, Kentucky, husband for 46 years to Lucille Wilson Birch, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at the Clark Regional Medical Center.
    A native of Powell County, he was born March 29, 1924, to the late Lonnie and Letha Allen Birch. He was a United States Army veteran, a member of Christview Christian Church, retired farmer, and he retired from the Bluegrass Army Depot.
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth “Buddy” Allen Birch (Abby) of Somerset; and Danny Dale Birch (Susan) of Winchester; two step-sons: Doug Christopher (Linda) of Winchester, and Randall Christopher (Joyce) of Irvine; one sister, Hazel Flippo, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
    Graveside services were held Monday, February 23 at 2 p.m. at the Winchester Cemetery. The family received friends on Sunday, February 22nd from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home, 289 South Main Street, Winchester.
    Grandsons served as pallbearers.

    Gerald E. “Jerry” Borck, age 72, of Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Friday, February 13, 2015; leaving behind a loving wife, Betty; whom he was married 51 years.
    Survivors also include a daughter, Becky and John Meyers; two sons: Craig Borck (Karla) and Jim Borck (Amanda); 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
    He also leaves behind one sister, Phyllis & Bob Sarka; four nieces and nephews: Bobby, Terri, Chuck and Trina, all of Defiance, Ohio.
    Jerry will be lovingly missed by Becky and John’s children: Rachelle, Lizzy, and step-granddaughter Stacy; Craig and Karla’s children: Justin, Jared, Erica and Lexis; and Jim and Amanda’s children: Tony, Chealsea, Olivia, Cameron, Tommy and baby Jessie (Tater).
    We are “all about” seeing him in Heaven.

    Judith K. Johnson, age 62, of Connersville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Fayette Regional Health System Emergency Room.
    She was born January 26, 1953 in Irvine, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Herbert Horn and Frances Miceli Horn. Judith was employed at Ford for 12 years until her health no longer permitted her to work.
    Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband Robert D. Johnson, whom she married on April 6, 1996 in Connersville, as well as two sons: Paul Drew and James Drew, both of Connersville; and one step-daughter: Emily Campbell (Wade) of Andersonville. She is also survived by three sisters: Darlene Boughner (Dennis) of Connersville; Hazel Davidson and Pauline Gross, both of Beattyville, Kentucky; and three grandchildren: Dylan Drew, Leann Campbell and Natalie Campbell.
    In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers, Herbert Gerald Horn; and an infant brother, Harry Wallace Horn.
    Eric Hopkins conducted funeral services at Urban Winkler Funeral Home on Monday February 9th at 2:00 p.m. with burial following at Dale Cemetery. Friends and family visited at the funeral home on Sunday evening, February 8th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
