Judy Parkhill, age 74, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017.
She was born March 18, 1943 in Breathitt County, Kentucky to the late Tom and Clementine Fraley Overbee.
Survivors include, one son, Gregory Noble (Michelle), Stanton; four daughters, Lana Richardson, Clay City; Sheri Spencer (Carl), April Lawson (Chester), and Penni McClure, all of Stanton; a brother, Robert Overbee (Elsie), Clay City; a sister, Frances Hardin (Granville), Spout Springs; 15 grandchildren: Brianna Pugh, Brian Richardson, Trish Richardson, Chelsea Dehart, Gregory Spencer, Lacarla Spencer, Christian Spencer, Latohsa Noble, Heather Rogers, Nellie Noble, Gregory Noble, Kyle Strange, Coby Strange, Derek Morguson, and Sean McClure; and numerous great grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.
Services will be Saturday, June 10, 1:00 p.m., Davis & Davis Funeral Home, 777 West College Avenue, Stanton. Visitation Friday after 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gary Lee Robertson, Sr., 52
Gary Lee Robertson, Sr., age 52, of Walnut Grove Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
He was born December 8, 1964 in Estill County and was the son of Burnam Lee Robertson, Sr. and the late Eunice Estes Robertson. He was an employee of Isaacs Roofing and had lived in Estill County all his life.
Survivors in addition to his father include two daughters: Latonye Jean Meyers and Rebecca Gail Robertson, both of Estill County; two sons: Gary Robertson, Jr. and Daniel Todd Robertson, both of Estill County; three sisters: Tammy Blevins, Sandra Alexander, and Julia Robertson, all of Madison County; three brothers: Roger Dean Robertson, Teddy Robertson, and Burnam Lee Robertson, Jr., all of Madison County; and six grandchildren: Christian Ray Flynn, Leigherra Meyers, Carliegh Hardy, Sandra Cheyenne Flynn, Brianna Hamm and Riley McDowell.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 8, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.

Judith Ann Burns Thornton, 77
Judith Ann Burns Thornton, age 77, of Ranier Drive in Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017, at the Kenwood House following a short illness.
She was born October 16, 1939 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Floyd and Reyna Shepherd Bush. She was a dedicated employee of Social Services for 30 years, serving the citizens of Estill County. She also was a board member of the National Family Council Board helping to establish a family council for Irvine Health Care. She was a life-long member of the Ravenna Christian Church, serving on the board and as treasurer. She had lived in Estill County most of her life.
Mrs. Thornton is survived by her husband, Murrell Thornton; one son, Jeff Burns (Ann), Richmond; one sister, Betsy Noland (Curt), Lexington; one brother, Dan Bush (Sandi), Florida; two grandchildren: Katie Rains and John Powell; four stepchildren: Donnie Burns, Anna Sue Webb, Brett Thornton and Wayne Thornton; a niece and a nephew: Leeann Noland and Daniel Bush; special cousins and a host of good friends.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Donald W. Burns.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 7, 11:00 a.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Tony White. Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call between 6 and 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 6th at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Charles “Doots” Muncy, Roger Riddell, Arthur Gene Ballard, Michael Woolery, Robert Durbin and Shannon Johnson.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of Ravenna Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that contributions be made to the Sanders Brown Alzheimer’s Research Center.

Hazel Abney, 82
Hazel Abney, age 82, of Winchester, Kentucky, wife of the late Rupard Abney, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Irvine Health and Rehab.
She was born in Irvine, Kentucky, on August 14, 1934. She was a homemaker and member of Epperson First Church of God in Winchester.
Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Lynn Barnes of Winchester; a son, Henry Abney of Covington; and she also leaves behind several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Johnny Abney and Billy Abney; and one grandson, Billy Abney.
Services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 6, at Scobee Funeral Home, 219 West Lexington Avenue, Winchester, by Bobby Abney and Pastor Harvey Spry. Burial will follow in the Winchester Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, June 5th at the funeral home.

James Farrell Moore, age 56, of Broadway in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017, at his home following a sudden illness.
He was born October 18, 1960 in Estill County and was the son of Sallie Smithers Moore and the late Norbert Moore. He was a former employee of ADESA of Lexington and DiTech. He was a member of the Rice Station Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and had lived in Estill County all his life.
Survivors in addition to his mother, include his wife of 33 years, Sandy Walters Moore; two sons: David Thomas Moore (Megan Farthing), Madison County; and Dustin Tyler Moore, Estill County; one brother, Boyd Wayne Moore (LeeAnn), South Carolina; his uncle, Tom Jack Moore (Molly), Nicholasville; two grandchildren: Khalea Jane Moore and Kruz Jackson Styles Moore, the daughter of his heart, Emily Gill Moore; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 5, 11:00 a.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Kirt Scott. Burial will be at the Walters Cemetery. Friends may call between 6 and 9 p.m., Sunday, June 4th at the funeral home.

Wanda Ann Stone, 69
Wanda Ann Stone, age 69, of Cressy Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, following a long illness.
She was born March 22, 1948 in Knott County and was the daughter of Cecil and Eva Miller Sizemore. She was retired from the Department of Military Affairs, Blue Grass Station and was a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church in Jackson. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and gardening and was a member of the Estill County Herb Club. She had lived in Estill County most of her life.
Mrs. Stone is survived by her husband, Earl D. Stone; one daughter, Vivian Jean Mullins, Estill County; one son, George James Mullins (Jessica), Winchester; two sisters: Mag Richie, Rowdy, Kentucky; and Nancy Patton, Manchester, Ohio; three brothers: South Sizemore, Ted Sizemore (Flora), both of Jackson; and Delmar Sizemore (Viney Mae), Hazard; two grandchildren: Hannah N. Patrick and Madison Paige Mullins; two stepgrandchildren: Cassie Lynn Crawford and Charles Shelton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers: Kiser, David, Charles and Hobert Sizemore; and one sister, Eva Miller Sizemore.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, June 4, 2:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Terry Lee. Burial will be at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends may call between 6 and 9 p.m., Saturday, June 3rd at the funeral home.

Phyllis Ann (Rish-Freid) Moore passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the age of 63 after a long illness.
She was born in Hamilton, Ohio on June 27, 1953, the daughter of the late Jacqueline Freid and the late Jim Rish and loving "father", Jacob Freid Jr. She graduated from Garfield High School in 1972. On August 4, 1980 she was married to Curtis Moore in Jelico, Tennessee.
Phyllis had a huge heart of gold and was a very giving person who never turned away those in need. Her biggest joy was spending time with her husband and family, especially her grandkids. They spent many vacations together in Florida and at the beach. She enjoyed riding with her husband on his Harley and spending time in Gatlinburg together. Phyllis enjoyed her last trip to the beach with her sisters; the beach always brought her peace. When you reach heaven, may you continue to hear the waves rushing upon the sand and feel the water rolling over your feet.
She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Curtis; five daughters: Melissa Knox, K'Shonna Brown, Mallory Banks (Jason), Lisa Partin (PJ) and Shannon Charles (Brian); a son Curtis Moore; 12 grandchildren: Mollie, Zechariah, Myah, Karlee, Macie, Charlie, Sara, Kama, Marissa, Sabrina, Cloud and Lyric; five great grandchildren: Iliza, Brooklyn, Keylee, Colton and Cash; and two great grandchildren on the way this year. She is also survived by two sisters, Gloria Jean Campbell (Jack) and Treva Pierce (Warren); a brother, Chris Freid; mother-in-law, Lorene Moore; brothers-in-law, Leonard and Leon Moore; sister-in-law, Bonnie Meece; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and a special "daughter", Krista Mueller.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Linda Cox, grandparents, an aunt and two uncles, a nephew and several cousins.
A visitation will be held at Ivey Funeral Home at Rose Hill Burial Park, 2565 Princeton Road, Hamilton, Ohio, on Friday, June 2, 2017 from 12 Noon-1 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 1 p.m.

John Paul Jones, age 62, of Race Track Road, Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.
He was a member of the Lighthouse Church of God in Winchester.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Katie Jones, of Irvine; a son, Thomas Tipton of Irvine; a daughter, Myrtie Booth of Irvine; a grandson, Michael Booth of Irvine; four brothers: Clay Jones, Benny Jones. both of Irvine; George Jones of Winchester, and Jimmy Jones of Irvine, and three sisters: Patsy Jones, Virginia Jones and Imogene Jones, all of Irvine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Frances Jones; three brothers: Wesley Jones, Victor Jones, and Danny Jones; and two sisters: Nancy Noble and Jenny Tipton.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 2, at the Lighthouse Church of God in Winchester with Bro. Ryan Dotson officiating. Friends may visit Thursday, June 1st from 6 till 9 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Jones-Tipton Cemetery.

Elmer “Pee Wee” Wiseman, 89
Elmer “Pee Wee” Wiseman, 89, husband of the late Phyllis Patton Wiseman, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
A native of Clark County, he was born on July 21, 1927 to the late Oscar and Vesta Larison Wiseman. Elmer was retired from Winchester Clothing and a proud United States Army Veteran.
Elmer is survived by his son, Jim Wiseman; four special sisters-in-law: Betty Oldfield, Mildred Richardson, Jo Auxier and Donna Neal; he also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 31, at Scobee Funeral Home by Dr. Ed Mesta. Burial followed in Clarmont Memorial Gardens.
Visitation was held at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon until the time of service Wednesday.

Ronald Eric Johnson, 66, of Alexandria, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017.
He was a United States Army Veteran and was a member of Valley Chapel.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Walker Franklin Johnson and Emma Johnson.
He is survived by his sons, Russell Douglas Johnson and Jonathon Walker Johnson; daughters, Miranda Johnson and Erin Jo; brothers, Chuck Johnson, Rick Johnson (Barb), Dennis Johnson (Belinda), and Phillip Johnson; sisters, Jane Bay (Chuck), Virginia Gamble (Eddie), and Laura Zumwalt (Jeff); and 12 grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Cooper Funeral Home, 10759 Alexandria Pike, Alexandria, from 10am-12noon, on Saturday, June 3. Burial will follow at Butler Cemetery.

Wayne Thomas Best, 60, of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, a retired roadway design engineer for the North Carolina Department of Transportation, died Saturday morning, April 8, 2017, at a North Charleston hospital.
Mr. Best was born December 27, 1956, in Honolulu, Hawaii, a son of CWO4 Dean Best, US Army, Ret., and Virginia Parker Best. He was of the Episcopal faith and enjoyed woodworking and gardening. Mr. Best also enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas and the beach, and was a true animal lover. He was a graduate of The Citadel Class of 1979 where he received his degree in civil engineering.
Surviving are his wife, Susan Hamilton Best, formerly of Irvine, Kentucky; three sisters, LTC Marcia B. Muzinich, US Army, Ret., (Michael), of Hilton Head, South Carolina; Deborah Best of Southern Pines, North Carolina; and Courtney B. Bailey of Raleigh, North Carolina; a nephew, Logan Bailey; and his seven cats.
His funeral was at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday evening, April 11, 2017, in the Chapel of Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. The family received friends at the funeral home from 4:30 p.m. until the hour of service on Tuesday. Mr. Best was entombed in the Bell Tower at The Citadel on May 17, 2017, following a memorial service at Summerall Chapel at The Citadel.

Foister “Duke” Brinegar, Jr., age 70, of Substation Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a short illness.
He was born March 9, 1947 in Estill County and was the son of the late Foister and Ella Jo Richardson Brinegar. He was a mason and a member of the Pentecostal faith. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
Mr. Brinegar is survived by his wife, Mary “Cookie” Burns Brinegar; four daughters: Brenda Bailey, Tonya Brinegar, both of Madison County; Tabby Parke (Steve) and Crystal Luster (John), both of Estill County; one son, Duke Anthony Brinegar (Jennifer), Estill County; four sisters: Catherine McGee (Delmer), Ina Elliott (Charles), Phyllis Horn, and Patricia Eads, all of Estill County; one brother, Sonny Brinegar, Estill County; 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Mary Lee Shackelford; one grandson, seven brothers and two sisters.

Billy Ray “Bill” Dixon, 69, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017 at his home.
Bill, the son of the late Claude Dixon and Ida Stamper Dixon, was born in Estill County on December 22, 1947. He enjoyed dirt track racing but especially loved each member of his family. He was a member of Viney Fork Baptist Church.
On May 6, 1966, Bill was united in marriage to Lullie Powell Dixon who survives.
He is also survived by his son, Jerry Dixon (Phyllis) of Irvine; his daughter, Renee Messina (Joe) of Berea; three brothers: Claude E. Dixon, Delbert Dixon (April) and Charles Dixon (Anna); seven sisters: Judy Dixon, Caroline Newman (William), Barbara Cain (Andy), Peggy Jones (Paul), Mae Smith (Ricky), Pamela Proctor (Danny) and Donna Wise (Gerald); five grandchildren: Matthew Messina (Becky), Nick Messina (Chloe), Amanda Adams (Derrick), Cassie Guinn and Shelby Dixon (Wesley); three great grandchildren: Zayden, Preston and Landon; two sisters-in-law: Delores Dixon and Sue Dixon; and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was also preceded in death by two brothers: Eugene Dixon and Roger Dixon.
Family and friends gathered from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, May 30, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street, Richmond.

William D. Steele, age 84, husband of Edith, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 25, 2017, in Beattyville, Kentucky.
Bill was born on December 30, 1932, in Jackson County, Kentucky, a son to the late Lester and Myrtle (York) Steele, and was one of 15 children. He was a member of the Beattyville Church of Christ, with a strong devotion to God and his family. He was a retired land surveyor, and a business entrepreneur, former owner of Lee County Building Supply and other business enterprises in the Lee County area. .
Along with his wife of 53 years, Edith; he is survived by two daughters: Marilyn Todd (Johnny) and Peggy Moody (Richard), both of Beattyville; four sons: Mike Brandenburg of (Virginia) Beattyville, Shelby Steele of Ashland, Kenneth Steele (Rose) of Ravenna, and Darrell Steele (Phyllis) of Beattyville; five sisters: Daphne, Eloise, Judy, Rissa, and Ruth; six brothers: Jack, Tony, Raleigh, Jerry, Lowell and Gary; 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Avanelle and Sharon; and one brother, Estill.
Funeral Services were held Monday, May 29, at 1:00 p.m., at Booneville Funeral Home, 3450 Ky Hwy 11 North, Booneville, with Marc Nations officiating. Visitation was held on Monday, May 29, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Bill was laid to rest in the Johnson Family Cemetery located on Omega Road in the Spencer Ridge Community of Lee County.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested that a memorial contribution be made in Bill’s name to the Hospice Care Plus.

Helen Marie Deering, age 87, passed away at her home in Thurmont, Maryland, on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 surrounded by family, following a difficult battle with Alzheimer's.
Born in 1930 in Irvine, Kentucky to Annie and Edgar Dougherty, she graduated from Irvine High School and eventually earned her master's degree in gerontology from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland.
Helen lived in Kentucky, North Carolina, Alabama and Missouri before finally moving to Maryland in 1963, where she remained for most of her life: 20 years in Silver Spring and 30 years in Damascus, where she was a long-time member of Damascus United Methodist Church. She was a talented musician and composer, taught piano for nearly 50 years, and was beloved by her hundreds of students, and their families.
Helen will be especially remembered as an advocate for individuals with autism, and worked tirelessly to educate the public whenever and wherever possible. She was lovingly seen by those who knew her as a woman of many talents: a singer, a tap-dancer, a Karate student; she was indomitable, insightful, a seeker of truth, a defender of the down-trodden.
Helen is survived by her devoted husband of 34 years, Charles Deering of Thurmont, Maryland; daughter Linda Bargmann of St. Augustine, Florida; son Doug Benson (Patty) of Thurmont; stepson Stephen Deering (Maura) of Seattle, Washington; stepdaughter Jennifer Spicer (Steven) of Silver Spring, Maryland; grandchildren Nick Bargmann (Kristen), Kristin Bargmann (Dylan Walshe), Jamie Benson, Drew Benson, Nora Grider, Jake Grider, Maddie Deering, and Sara Jane Spicer; and great granddaughter Evelyn Bargmann.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Edgar Dougherty, sisters, Edna Sievers and Doris Cox; her first husband, Earl Benson; and son-in-law Lou Bargmann.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date to be announced.

James Franklin Luster, 75, of Richmond, Kentucky, and Okeechobee, Florida, passed away on Wednesday morning, May 24, 2017, at the Baptist Health Hospital in Richmond.
He was born on Sand Ridge in Madison County on March 1, 1942, to the late Luther and Lillie Mae Dozier Luster. He was the former owner and operator of Madison Auto Service in Richmond, and was currently the owner and operator of Tropical Breeze Marine in Okeechobee. He will be remembered as a hard worker who loved to fish.
Mr. Luster is survived by his wife of 49 years, Brenda Perkins Luster; one son, Charles Michael Montgomery; two sisters: Goldie Hiton and Debbie Luster; five brothers: Bill Luster, Donald Luster (Jean), Doug Luster (Agg), Paul Luster (Brenda), and Charles Luster (Beverly); one aunt, Mary Grise; and three special pets, Nibbler, Oreo and Oscar.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Craig Luster; one sister, Joyce Peters; and one brother, Kenneth Luster.
Funeral Services were conducted at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 27, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street, Richmond, with Bro. Sidney Sparks, Bro. Jerry Rose, and Bro. Paul Luster officiating.
Visitation was after 2:00 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.

Dr. Donald Campbell, age 85, formerly of Mansfield, Worthington, and Alliance, Ohio, died Tuesday, May 23, 2017, peacefully at home.
Born in Alliance, Ohio, the son of Helen and Donald Campbell Sr., Dr. Campbell attended Alliance High School (Class of 1949) where he was defensive end and place kicker for the Alliance Aviators varsity football team. He received his B.A. in Health and Physical Education from Kent State University where in 1952 he became the Golden Flashes’ all time record holding place kicker; his record stood for over 50 years. His M.A. in Public Health from University of Michigan was conferred in 1958, and he received his Ph.D. in Preventive Medicine from The Ohio State University in 1969. Dr. Campbell served in the U.S. Naval Reserve as a medic at the Naval Air Station Training Center in Akron, Ohio from August 1951- November 1958. Dr. Campbell taught Health and Physical Education at Alliance and Minerva High Schools and was also Head Coach of the Minerva High School football team. After attending University of Michigan, Dr. Campbell worked in public health education at the Ohio Department of Health, then served as the Program Director of the Central Ohio branch of the American Heart Association. From 1964 to 1966, Dr. Campbell was a consultant for Kent State University in Tanzania, Africa, where he helped to establish public health education faculties in 18 teacher training colleges, and enjoyed numerous safaris with his wife Marie, and children. Upon his return to the United States, he held the position of Assistant, then Associate Professor of Preventive Medicine at The Ohio State University while earning his Doctorate Degree. After his tenure at Ohio State, he served as Health Commissioner for Richland and Crawford counties of Ohio. He also taught Public Health Administration at Indiana State University in Terre Haute. Dr. Campbell was a member of and served as President of the Society of Public Health Educators. He enjoyed travel in Europe and golf with his wife Marie Campbell.
He is survived by his wife, Marie, his son Scott, his daughters Donna Peterson (Douglas) and Kelleen Robbins (Brent), nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Millers Creek Road (KY-1571) will be closed at Cow Creek Bridge through June 9.
– In order to make repairs to an embankment failure, KY 1571 in Estill County will be closed from Monday, June 5, until Friday, June 9. This will impact travel between Beattyville and Irvine.
The road will be closed at milepoint 0.4, which is the one-lane bridge over Cow Creek just east of Ravenna. Due to the nature of the repairs, the road will be closed 24 hours per day.
No marked detour will be posted, but drivers can use KY 52 as an alternate route. Drivers should plan their trips accordingly and allow extra travel time.
Rice Street in Irvine to be closed for two weeks
Rice Street in Irvine is closed once again at the KY 89 intersection due to construction activities. The road will be closed the rest of this week and all next week. Detour via Francis Street to reach KY 89, or by Court Street to reach River Drive (KY 52), Broadway (KY 2461) or the lower end of Main Street (KY 89). The closure is necessary for construction work on the KY 89 widening project that is currently under way.
The road is expected to be closed for the next two weeks, meaning it chould be reopened to traffic by the weekend of June 10-11.
No marked detour will be posted, but drivers can use Laurel Street and Francis Street to access KY 89. Drivers can also use Court Street (KY 2460) to connect with Broadway (KY 2461), River Drive (KY 52) or Main Street (KY 89).
