Irvine Police makes largest drug bust in years
Friday afternoon, July 21, 2017, the Irvine Police Department made its largest drug bust in recent years which resulted in the seizure of thousands of pills and other drugs from a residence on Dark Hollow Road.
The drug bust began after a controlled drug buy went bad. The citation states that Kevin Scott Abney, 39, arranged the drug buy with a confidential informant working for the Irvine Police Department.
Abney originally arranged for the meeting between himself and the confidential informant at his residence at 999 Dark Hollow Road, Irvine, according to a citation.

Title 1 funds allow Estill schools more positions
Thursday night, July 20, 2017, Superintendent Jeff Saylor said he was pleased to announce that the school district had received Title 1 funds that would allow some positions to be filled throughout the district with no cost to the general fund. The board also approved four instructional positions within the marching band. Those salaries will be paid for by the band boosters and will not impact the general fund either.
Mr. Saylor reported that some inaccuracies about the career and technical center had been printed in a neighboring county’s newspaper and he felt like he needed to clarify some of that information.
He said that rumors were circulating about the location of the technology center and that property had already been purchased for that building in Powell County. Saylor said that was absolutely not the truth and that at this time the board has not secured a location for the technology center.

Rose and are from information included in his book, “ESTILL COUNTY’S CEDAR GROVE - A Kentucky Community and Its People.” It begins . . .
The community of Cedar Grove is located in west-central Estill County, stretching a distance from two to four miles west of the county seat of Irvine, along the old Richmond and Irvine Turnpike. Ky. Baptists to help after severe storms, flooding
Kentucky Baptists will assist with relief efforts in northern Illinois where thousands of homes were impacted by weekend flooding.
Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner on Monday declared disaster status for eight counties and provided 175,000 sandbags to protect critical infrastructure, including a sewage treatment plant.
Flooding earlier in the month was exacerbated on Sunday by severe thunderstorms that pushed rivers out of banks and into roadways.
In Lake County, where Kentucky Baptist Disaster Relief crews are headed, more than 2,200 homes were impacted. The Disaster Relief teams will help residents shovel mud out of their homes and to remove waterlogged furnishings and debris.
“Our prayer is that these teams can bring help, healing and hope to the families in Grayslake, Ill.,” said Coy Webb, director of Kentucky Baptist Disaster Relief, a ministry of the Kentucky Baptist Convention.
Kentucky crews will be partnering with the Illinois Baptist Convention, which has already identified 250 people in need of help.
“This relief effort may extend for several weeks, if not months,” Webb said.
Kentucky Baptist Disaster Relief teams, including chaplains who minister to the emotional needs of residents, are scheduled to leave Sunday and work through the following weekend.
