Howard "Doug" Isaacs

    Howard "Doug" Isaacs, 75, widower of Peggy Catrain Downey Isaacs, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at his son Levi’s home, in Winchester, Kentucky.
    He was born in Irvine, Kentucky, on March 14, 1945, to the late Delbert and Anna Coyle Isaacs. In Mr. Isaacs' earlier years he served in the United States military. From there he became the founder of Isaacs Roofing and Sheet Metal. For years, his sons Delbert and Levi worked alongside him until he retired, passing his legacy on to them. Mr. Isaacs was a Jehovah’s Witness and spent many years teaching others about the Bible.
    Survivors include three children, Danisha Isaacs, Levi Isaacs (Emmy), and Ciara Hagedorn (Brad); eight grandchildren, Kaycee, Collin, Terra, Brylee, Cole, Jake, Dylan, and Oliver; two great grandchildren, Marlee and Raylan; three sisters, Lucille Rice, Sue Dickerson, and Charlene Douglas; several extended family members and friends.
    In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Delbert Isaacs.

Sue Helen Hardy

    Sue Helen Hardy, age 73, of Hardy Cemetery Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a long illness.
    She was born August 29, 1946 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Hiram Newman, Sr. and Cleona Turner Newman. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pine Grove Pentecostal Church. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Mrs. Hardy was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Hardy.
    She is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Oliver (George), Estill County; two sisters: Sarah Watkins, Clark County; and Sherry Daniels, Georgia; and four brothers: Hiram Newman, Jr., North Carolina; Darrell Newman, Clark County; David Newman, Florida; and Douglas Newman, Georgia.
    Mrs. Hardy was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois Ann Hardy; and five siblings: Sandy, Donald, Dale, Delmar and Don Newman.
    Friends may call Wednesday, July 1, 2020 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home. Private funeral services will be conducted with burial at the Hardy Cemetery.

Helen Price Tudor Pattie

    Helen Price Tudor Pattie, age 88, passed peacefully at her home in Danville, Kentucky, on Saturday, June 27, 2020, surrounded by her family.
    She was born in Valley View, Kentucky on April 10, 1932 to Mary Elizabeth Noland Tudor and Humphrey Hill “Jack” Tudor Jr.
    She graduated Salutatorian from Irvine High School in 1950 and began her career at the Kentucky Dept. of Education. She made many wonderful memories and stories from working for Kentucky Governor A.B. “Happy” Chandler from 1955-60.
    While having a family and working, she earned her Bachelor’s in Business Education and eventually two Masters’ degrees with honors from EKU. She fiercely championed the interest of children at Kentucky School for the Deaf for 30 years, progressing from a social worker and retiring as Director of Social Services.
    She led and served many organizations including Leadership Danville, Leadership KY and the Governor’s Task Force on Welfare Reform. She was a driving force and protector in her family from a young age and excelled at networking family and friends, along with matchmaking. Her mischievous smile lent itself to many fun outings and theme parties throughout her life.
    Mrs. Pattie leaves behind her husband of 68 years, John Coleman “Jack” Pattie; a daughter, Susan Cieply (Jeff); two granddaughters, MaryClaire and Kara; two sisters, Margie Bradford of Bardstown and Lois June Prewitt (Verlon) of Irvine; and many loved nieces and nephews.
    Helen was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Duveen French, and two brothers, Glenn Bradley Tudor and Humphrey Hill Tudor, III.
    A special thank you to Joyce Townes and caregivers: Georgetta Smith, Hope Bishop, Dorothy Walton, Sue Davis and Delona Alford, Doctor James Duncan and Boyle County Hospice.
    Visitation is 9-11 a.m., Thursday at Centenary United Methodist Church, 1441 Perryville Road, Danville. Funeral service is at 11:00 a.m. with burial in Richmond Cemetery.

    Wallace Charles Taylor, age 58, of Pryse Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, June 26, 2020 at the Marcum and Wallace Hospital following a long illness.
    He was born April 25, 1962 in Estill County and was the son of the late William Calvin “Tucker” and Lelia Tipton Taylor. He was a farmer and retired Estill County Judge/Executive. He lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Cathy Ranae Lawson Taylor; one daughter: Charleston Jo Neal (Chad), Estill County; one son, Wallace Chandler Taylor (Sarah), Estill County; one sister, Sue Carol Beckley, Estill County; six grandchildren: Cali Griffith, Cole Griffith, Charley Taylor, Fisher Neal, Jonah Neal, and Conner Taylor; and one nephew, L.W. Beckley.
    He was preceded in death by one brother, William Calvin Taylor, Jr.; and one nephew, Chad Beckley.

    Emmaleen Hall Cole, age 74, of Elliston Road in Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Friday, June 26, 2020 at Baptist Health Richmond following a short illness.
    She was born November 3, 1945 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Preston and Ruth Covey Hall. She retired from Begley’s and was a member of the Waco Baptist Church. She lived in Madison County most of her life.
    Mrs. Cole is survived by her husband, Norman Cole, Madison County; two daughters: Angelia Stacy (Larry) and Norma Ruth Owens (Jackie Bowling), both of Madison County; two sisters: Kathleen Webb (Paul), and Doris Ann Ward (Jerry), both of Madison County; one brother, Jimmy Hall - Madison County; and three grandchildren: Tyler Cole (Tiffany), Rachel Jones (Zach), and Taylor Owens; one great grandchild, Kyle Jones; and several nieces and nephews.

    Sara Beth Underwood, age 35, of Dug Hill Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020 at her home.
    She was born January 15, 1985 in Madison County and was the daughter of Charleen Robinson and the late Jack Underwood. She was self-employed and lived in Estill County all her life.
    Sara Beth is survived by her mother, Charleen Robinson, Estill County; one daughter, Emma Kaye Robinson, Estill County; two sons: Steven Wesley Johns, Madison County; and Trenton Paul Tuttle, Estill County; and one brother, Eric Scott Underwood, Florida.

    Molly Leeann Duty, infant daughter of Jason and Erica Duty of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Monday, June 22, 2020.
    Other than her parents, she is survived and loved by her brothers: Lane Snowden and Mason Duty; her grandparents: Kimberly Williams and Ricky and Elizabeth Duty; her aunt, Jessica Kelly (Adam); her uncles: Logan Williams, Anthony Duty and Justin Duty; and her cousins: Nyla, Olina, and Owen.
    She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Clarence T. "C.T." Williams III.

Omer Tipton, Jr.

    Omer Tipton, Jr., of Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2020, at the age of 91, after a long illness.
    He was born January 6, 1929 in Estill County to the late Omer and Ethel Jones Tipton.
    Mr. Tipton was preceded in death by his sweetheart and loving wife of sixty-seven years, Pearl Gillespie Tipton; a sister, Dorothy McIntosh of Port Charlotte, Florida; and two brothers, Clarence Tipton of Dayton, Ohio; and Melvin Tipton of Piketon, Ohio.
    He is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Moyer (Ken) of Germantown, Ohio; a son, Terry Tipton of Ravenna; and seven grandchildren: Kenny Moyer, Jared Moyer, both of Germantown, Ohio; Teresa Tipton of Kentucky, Joshua Tipton (Sarah) of Warsaw, Poland; Andrea Moyer of Middletown, Ohio; Kevin Moyer (Sheena) of West Alexandria, Ohio; and Jeremy Tipton (Chelsea) of Cynthiana. He had three great grandchildren: Christopher Tipton, MacKenzie Pearl Myers, and Luna Tipton.
    Also surviving are many nieces and nephews including a very caring niece, Linda Chadwell of Port Charlotte, Florida. He leaves a multitude of friends including John Tipton and Jimmy Fox.
    He lived in the Dayton, Ohio area for many years and retired from General Motors before moving back to Tipton Ridge in 1994. He was a long-time member of the Irvine Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. He loved bluegrass music, old westerns, and was known for his sense of humor. He will be missed by all.
    Private graveside services will be held.

    Mildred Jane Goins Hale, age 70, of Irvine, Kentucky, widow of Buddy Hale, passed away Monday, June 22, 2020 at Baptist Health Richmond, after a sudden illness.
    She was a native of Madison County, born November 29, 1949, a daughter of the late William and Dora Ratliff Goins.
    Mrs. Hale was preceded in death by her daughter, Regina Carol Luster; her brother, Troy Goins; her sisters: Katherine and Gladys Goins; and her grandson, Bobby Ray Luster.
    Survivors include her sons: John Hale (Jo Ann) and Dean Hale (Crystal); her brothers: William Goins and Dean Goins; her sister, Nancy Burrus; and her grandchildren: Hailey Hale, Joshua Luster, Patricia Hale, Joshua Hale, Owen Powell, and Chris Hale.

Elva Arville Jarvis

    Elva Arville Jarvis, age 92, of Sandhill Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2020, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a long illness.
    She was born August 6, 1927 in Knox County, Kentucky and was the daughter of the late Luke Finley Wells and Linda Elliott Wells. She was a retired Kroger Company employee and a member of the Williams Memorial Baptist Church. She attended church on a regular basis as long as she was able to and was an active member of the Women's Missionary Union. In the 1960’s she was a volunteer librarian for Estill County. She was an avid gardener both in flowers and vegetables. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Among other hobbies, three of her favorites were cooking, baking and reading. She had lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Mrs. Jarvis was preceded in death by her husband, Edward M. Jarvis.
    She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Jarvis Richardson, Estill County; one granddaughter, Shannon Chaney (Howard), Estill County; two great grandsons: Jakolbi Crowe and Jessup Chaney, both of Estill County; two sisters: Zelma Croley (Harry), and Thelma Brock, both of Knox County; a sister-in-law, Lucille Wells, Whitley County; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by one grandson, Christopher Wayne Richardson; five siblings: Jimmy Wells, Leora Brock, Dewey Wells, Geneva Terrell and Clifton Wells; one niece and four nephews: Kim Partin, Ricky Terrell, Bobby Terrell, Marlin Terrell and Allen Rowe.

Chester “Lewis” Hamilton

    Chester “Lewis” Hamilton, age 76, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away at home in the early hours of Saturday, June 20, 2020 after a long battle with multiple health conditions.
    He was born in Estill County on August 28, 1943, the youngest of five and only son of Chester and Rhoda Hamilton. Lewis was a 1961 graduate of Estill County High School and lived most of his life in Estill County. He retired as an electrician from B&B Electric, Lexington, Kentucky, and was a 59-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local #369. Lewis was a 3rd Degree Mason of the Stafford Lodge #562 and a former Shriner. He was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church in West Irvine.
    Lewis will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. He was a hard-working man devoted to his family and never late for anything a day in his life. He enjoyed old-time country, bluegrass and gospel music, freshly mowed fields, and a cold beer after a long workday.
    He is survived by his wife and best friend of fifty-eight years, Wilma Lee Osborne Hamilton; three children, Sherry L. Hamilton-Reams (Eddie), Dyrklain L. Hamilton (formerly Deborah), and Stacie L. Simpson (Jeremy); three grandchildren, Daniel R. Isaacs, Sarah F. Thompson, and Gabriel L. Simpson; two siblings, Betty Garrett and Estrada Gamble (Gerald); three nieces and four nephews.
    Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Barbara Flynn (Wayne) and Bonnie Reynolds; a niece, Julie Garrett; and a nephew, Jerry Gamble.
    Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 22, 2020 at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home. Private funeral services were conducted Monday, June 22, at the funeral home by Pastor Max Hester and Pastor Jack Schoenthaler. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery.     Charles Leon Samples, age 67, of Oak Ridge Drive in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, June 19, 2020, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
    He was born June 17, 1953 in Lee County and was the son of the late Dewey C. and Kathaleen LeMaster Samples. He was a retired Trane Company employee and a member of the Crystal Church of Christ. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Samples is survived by his wife, Kathy D. Patrick Samples; one son, Jason Charles Samples (Judy), Estill County; one goddaughter, Jaclyn St. Clair Shoop, Fayette County; two sisters: Mary Stamper (Willard), Estill County; and Wilma McIntosh, Lee County; three brothers: Paul Samples (Kathy), Lee County; Bobby Samples (Mattie), Madison County; and Benny Samples, Estill County; a brother-in-law: Kendall Rogers (Kathy), Estill County; five grandchildren: Chyna Samples, Piper Samples, Gryphon Samples, Kanyon Samples and Dylan Hager; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
    He was preceded in death by two siblings, Genevieve Rison and Dewey Samples, Jr.

    Gayola Mae Adams, age 81, of Cobb Hill Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at the St. Elizabeth Hospice following a long illness.
    She was born March 10, 1939 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Roy and Bertha Patrick Case. She was a homemaker and member of the Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints.
    Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Adams.
    She is survived by three daughters: Melanie Bowman, Irvine; Luanna Robinson, Independence; and Karron Adams, South Gate; three sons: Todd Adams, Alexandria; Randy Adams, Louisville; and Darron Adams, Newport; one sister, Aggie Fahlbush, Newport; and a multitude of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.
    Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

William Roy Howell, Sr.

    William Roy Howell, Sr., age 74, joined the great cloud of witnesses on Wednesday, June 17, 2020.
    He was born in Jeffersonville, Indiana on May 14, 1946 to the late John Howell and Ethel Bowen Howell. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Howell worked as a heavy equipment operator and worked for Building Crafts, Inc. for 32 years. He was a licensed minister with United Pentecostal Church International. He founded and pastored 12 years at Grace Apostolic Church in Cynthiana, Kentucky.
    Left behind to mourn are his wife, Linda McIntosh Howell; four children, Jimmy Howell (Heather), William Howell, Jr., Kimberly Jenks (Shawn), and John Lakes (Jennifer); 12 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; five sisters, Nancy Baker, Sherry Shearn, Doris Howell, Sue Carroll and Kay Merriman; and one brother, Mike Howell.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Howell and Robert Howell.

    She was born May 10, 1948 in Estill County to the late Reverend Joe A. Puckett, Jr. and Bertha Mae West Puckett. She was a homemaker and was a member of the West Bend First Church of God.
    Mrs. Parks was preceded in death by her husband, Joe “Shorty” Parks.
    She is survived by one son, Jason Parks (Corinna), Madison County; four sisters: Patricia Long (Edmound), Dianna Puckett, Marilyn (Sam) Dunaway, and Teresa Powell (Marshall), Estill County; one brother, Joie Lee Puckett, Estill County; two grandchildren: Olivia Parks and Abigail Parks; and “Adopted Grandchildren”: Gunner, Jordan, Tagan, Alyee, Kaylee, Emma, Madison, Victoria, Chris, Marley, and Kiaus.

Charles Damon Flinchum

    Charles Damon Flinchum, husband of Mary Frances Stamper “Dolly” Flinchum of Beattyville, Kentucky and the son of the late Floyd and Roxie Gross Flinchum, was born in Lee County, Kentucky on January 21, 1948 and departed this life in Beattyville on Monday, June 8, 2020 at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 18 days.
    In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by three children, Melissa Dawn Flinchum of Prestonsburg; Timothy Wayne Charles of Irvine; and Anthony Glenn Charles of Piqua, Ohio; seven grandchildren; one brother and one sister, Dennis Flinchum and Patricia Purdue, both of Beattyville; and a host of other relatives and friends.
    Private funeral services were held.
