Donald Robert Jones, 63

    Donald Robert Jones, age 63, husband of Carolen Jones died Sunday, September 29, 2013 from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
    He was born in Powell County to the late Otha and Ella Jones. He was a member of the Church of God and a former construction worker.
    He is survived by his wife, Carolen Jones of Stanton; one son, Daniel Jones of Hagerstown, Maryland; two daughters: Dora Grace Jones and Donna Beth Jones, both of Hagerstown, Maryland; four grandchildren; one brother, Claudie Jones of Stanton; and one sister, Anna Wise of Stanton.
    He was preceded in death by one son, Barry; one daughter, Victoria; two brothers: Clifford Jones and Henry Lee Jones.
    Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 3, 2013 at The Grayson Funeral Home Chapel, 201 7th Avenue, Clay City, with Bro. Hurbert Barnett and Bro. Gary Sparks officiating. Friends may visit Wednesday, October 2, from 4 'till 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Rose Cemetery.

Margaret Carolyn Rogers, 66

    Margaret Carolyn Rogers, age 66, of Stewart Fork Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2013, at her home, following a short illness.
    She was born November 1, 1946 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Sidney and Ruby Warmouth. She was a homemaker and a member of the Roadside Mission Church of God. She had lived in Estill County all of her life.
    She is survived by her husband, Gainus Rogers; two daughters: Zada Rogers, Irvine; and Dana Patrick Adams (Jonathon), Lexington; one son, Terry Rogers (Susie), Irvine; one brother, Arthur Warmouth, Ohio; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her sister, Virgie Thacker Reeves.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 3rd at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Jered Patrick and Bro. Jim Hall. Burial will be at the Cobb Hill Cemetery. Friends may call between 6 and 9 p.m., Wednesday, October 2nd at the funeral home.

Rev. John Emery Savage, 80

    Rev. John Emery Savage of Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the age of 80. He was a retired elder in the United Methodist Church.
    He was born July 31, 1933 in Wichita, Kansas to Claude Savage and Edna Nicholas Savage. He graduated from Quincy High School, Quincy, Kansas in 1951.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings: Ray Savage, Claudene Savage Harbor, George Savage, “Doc” Savage and Dorothy Savage Johnston.
    He is survived by his wife, of the home, Sandra (Caskey) Savage; a son, Rev. Jim Savage (Suzie) of Prestonsburg; daughters: Deborah Savage Watkins (Walt) of Lexington and Lynette Savage Bradford (Kevin) of London, Kentucky; nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
    John received a BA degree from Missouri Southern College in Joplin, Missouri. He worked as a design-draftsman for several years, teaching for two years in the vocational school in Monett, Missouri where he answered the call to full-time ministry. He received a Master of Divinity Degree from Asbury Seminary, Wilmore, Kentucky. During his tenure as a pastor/minister he served the following churches: Ravenna UMC, Burnside UMC, Harris Memorial UMC at Stanford, Hindman UMC, before working at Aldersgate Camp and Retreat Center in his retirement years after 1995. He also traveled as an evangelist following his time at Aldersgate Camp. Then John answered the call to serve the College Hill UMC until his retirement (again) in 2005.
    A devoted husband, man of God’s own choosing, loving father and grandfather; John gave his life to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to all whom he came in contact with.
    His service of celebration of life was held at the Irvine United Methodist Church, Main Street. Visitation began at 10 a.m., Monday, September 30th, followed by the service at 11 a.m. Burial was in the Roberts/South Irvine Cemetery. His son, Rev. Jim Savage was in charge of the service and bringing the message of remembrance was by Rev. Don Hatton and Rev. Charlie Douglas, assisting.
    In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to one of the following: Irvine UMC (or your own church); The Gideons Bible International; or Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital, Irvine, KY.

Allene Lutes Rose, 80

    Allene Lutes Rose, age 80, passed away Saturday at the Irvine Health and Rehabilitation Center.
    She was born November 13, 1932, in Estill County, the daughter of the late Jesse and Cora Hall Lutes. She was a retired sew operator with Carhartt, Inc. and had lived in Estill County most of her life. She was a member of the Bethel Christian Church.
    She is survived by her husband, Lewis William Rose; a daughter: Jeanette Stepp (Bill), Irvine; two sons: Glenn Rose, Irvine; and Travis Rose (Sharon), Richmond; two sisters: Margie Richardson and Virgie Wilson; two brothers: Jesse Lutes Jr. and Forest Lutes, six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by two sisters: Betty Patrick and Minna Lee Johnson; and three brothers: Russell Lutes, Roy Lutes, and Johnny Lutes.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 2nd at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. David Watson with burial to follow in the Rose-Freeman Cemetery.

Helen Lois Moore Walling, 86

    Helen Lois Moore Walling, age 86, of Cedar Grove Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, September 27, 2013, at the Irvine Health & Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
    She was born January 28, 1927 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mattie Witt Moore. She was a retired employee of Westinghouse and Phillips Lighting and was a member of Rice Station Christian Church. She had lived in Estill County all of her life.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Earl Walling.
    She is survived by her granddaughter: Tonya Leann Fortner; and one brother, Tom Jack Moore (Mollie).
    She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jill Karen Walling Fortner; one sister, Doris Jean Hall; and two brothers: Norbert F. “Nobby” Moore and Francis Leo Moore.
    Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 1st at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Kirt Scott. Burial was at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Monday, September 30th at the funeral home.

Basslee Richardson

Basslee Richardson, 90

    Basslee Richardson, age 90, of Winchester Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2013, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
    He was born April 20, 1923 in Jackson County and was the son of the late Levi and Mollie Botner Richardson. He was a farmer and had lived in Jackson County most of his life.
    He is survived by his wife, Ruby Benton Howell Richardson; four daughters: Shirley Collett, Rita Collett, Freida Holliman, and Rhonda Devery, all of Estill County; four sons: Basslee Richardson Jr., Wayne Richardson, both of Estill County; Ricky Richardson, Winchester; and Jerry Richardson, Estill County; two sisters: Pauline Grigsby, Michigan; and Zella McKinney, Indiana; two brothers: Burgoyne Richardson, Jackson County; and Hume Richardson, Madison County; 26 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy Richardson; one son, Larry Richardson; one sister, Irene Goodlander; and one brother, Ralph Richardson.
    Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 30th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by bro. Bill Wesley. Burial was at the Richardson Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Sunday, September 29th at the funeral home.

Linda Lou Alexander, 55

    Linda Lou Alexander, age 55, of McKee, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at her home after a short illness.
    She was a native of Estill County, a daughter of the late Victor and Darlene Rose Jordan.
    Mrs. Alexander was preceded in death by her sister Judy Vanwinkle.
    Survivors include her children Paul (Stacy) Alexander, Jessica (Shawn Tyra) Alexander, and Penny (James) Richardson; her sisters Pam and Carol Jordan; her grandchildren Nickoli Velbis, Jesse York, Russell Lee York, Payton Lou Alexander, and Anthony Alexander.
    Services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 30th at the Heritage Funeral Home 237 North 2nd Street, Richmond, with Bro. Cecil Burns officiating. Burial followed in the Alexander Family Cemetery in McKee. Friends called after 11:00 a.m. until service time, Monday, at the funeral home.

Ida Mae Bowles Begley, 69

    Ida Mae Bowles Begley, age 69, of Woolery Lane in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at the Central Baptist Hospital after a sudden illness.
    She was born April 10, 1944 in McKee and was the daughter of the late Jeddie and Nettie Stacy Bowles. She was a homemaker and attended the Irvine Nazarene Church. She had lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Mrs. Begley is survived by her husband, Andrew Jackson Begley; three daughters: Betty Marshall (Tony), Irvine; Joyce Litsey and Sandy Smith (Gary), both of Richmond; one son, Billy Begley (Kathy), Ravenna; two sisters: Margaret Lemaster, Ravenna; and Zula Brock, Richmond; one brother, Donald Walling, Irvine; seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and special friends: Audrey & Darrell Baker & family, and Pat Alexander.
    She was preceded in death by three brothers: Bobby Sloane, James Shouse and Elmer Bowles.
    Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 28th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Tony Marshall. Burial was at the Oakdale Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Friday, September 27th at the funeral home.

Brig. Gen. James Elbert Payne III, Ret., 60

    Brigadier General James Elbert Payne III, Retired, age 60, of Old Landing Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center following a sudden illness.
    He was born October 5, 1952, in Fort Knox, Kentucky, and was the son of Anna M. Chandler Payne and the late James Elbert Payne Jr. He was a retired Brigadier General with the United States Army and served in Desert Shield, Desert Storm, the Iraq War and the Afghan War. He was a member of the VFW and had lived in Estill County for the past eight years.
    He is survived by his wife, Betsy K. Payne; his mother, Anna M. Payne; one sister, Sandra P. Sarafian (Mark), Fort Myers, Florida; nieces and nephews: Tessa Sarafian, Augustus James Sarafian and Luke Sarafian; beloved aunts: Geneva Rush, London; Sylvia Dunn, Irvine; Donna (Richard) McIntire, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; beloved cousins: Jacqueline “Jackie” (Richard) Crouch, Cabot (Gina) Dunn, Michael (Krista) Dunn, Candy (Jon) Tucker, Rob (Gina) House, Travis McIntire, Charlotte (Ted) Hensley, Joanna (Mike) Rush, Eli Alexander, Sheila Hernandez, Celeste Alexander, David Alexander, Zak Crouch, Jeff Crouch and Kayla (Cody) Jackson; and many beloved friends in Irvine and around the world including his fellow officer and friend, John Vanetta.
    He was preceded in death by two beloved aunts: Louise Alexander and Leona Epperson.

    Lindsey West, Jr., age 76, of White Oak Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital, after a long illness.
    He was born November 30, 1936 in Estill County and was the son of the late Lindsey Sr. and Myrtle Henry West. He was a retired employee of the Boonesboro Quarry and a member of the River Drive Christian Church. He had lived in Estill County all of his life.
    Mr. West is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Horn West; one daughter, Sherri Sue Short (Steve), Estill County; one brother, Charles H. West, Estill County; and four grandchildren: Kyle (Mashea) Short, Taylor Short, Cody Lynn West and Trey C. West.
    He was preceded in death by his son, Micky Lynn West.

Robert Lee “Hook” Kersey, 61

    Robert Lee “Hook” Kersey, 61, of Irvine, Kentucky, husband of Wilma Carol Cameron Kersey, passed away Monday, September 23, 2013, at Lakeridge Villa in Cincinnati, Ohio.
    He was born in Madison County on March 21, 1952 to the late Marshall and Mary Ashcraft Kersey. He had attended the Valley View Baptist Church. He was an avid U. K. basketball fan and was a lifelong member of the Free Riders Motorcycle Club of Irvine.
    In addition to his wife, Mr. Kersey is survived by three daughters: Sherry Lynn White, Rebecca Sue Rhodus (Walter), all of Richmond; and Amanda Leigh Kersey of Irvine; two stepdaughters: Serena Carol Wilson and Vivian Kay Chrisman (Michael), all of Richmond; his brother, Glen Ray Kersey; five sisters: Louise Gordon, Shirley Ann Golden, Joyce Marie Peale, Janice Sue Pickett and Anna Lee Stone; 11 grandchildren: Cody Wilson, Karri Wilson, Dylan Wilson, Ashley Faith Rhodus, Madison Hope Rhodus, Brittany Nicole Robertson, Andrea May Kelley, Jessica Sue Kelley, Mikayla Chrisman, Jason Chrisman and Christian Boardman; seven great grandchildren; and his aunt, uncle and cousins.
    In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother, Oscar Kersey and his sister, Betty Jo Gibson.

Minnie Frances Estes Richardson, 89

    Minnie Frances Estes Richardson, age 89, of Stacy Lane Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2013, at the Irvine Health and Rehab Center after a long illness.
    She was born December 7, 1923, in Estill County, a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Maude Flynn Estes. She was a former Carhartt Inc. employee and a cook with the Estill County School system. She had lived in Estill County all of her life and was a member of the South Irvine Christian Church for over 60 years.
    Survivors include her husband, McDonald Richardson; a daughter, Sandra Dean Wilds (Joe), Irvine; two sons: Donald Lee Richardson (Evelyn), Clarksville, Indiana; and Roger Glynn Richardson (Ann), Irvine; five grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and five great, great grandchildren
    She was preceded in death by two sisters: Lucille Hoskins and Lillian Witt; a brother, Howard Lee Estes; and a grandson, Chris Richardson.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 25th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Mike Chism with burial to follow in the South Irvine Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Tuesday, September 24th at the funeral home.

James R. “Jimmy” Hall

James R. “Jimmy” Hall, 72

    James R. “Jimmy” Hall, age 72, of Richmond, Kentucky, husband of Mary E. Rison Hall, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.
    Mr. Hall was born in Madison County on July 31, 1941 to the late Robert and Margaret Johns Hall. He was of the Christian Faith and had retired from Home Lumber Company in Richmond. He also served in the United States Army. He enjoyed woodworking, had great mechanic skills, and was a dog lover as well. He was known by many in Madison County as their Little League baseball coach.
    In addition to his wife, Mr. Hall is also survived by his son, Chad Hall (Stacey) of Richmond; his brother, Marvin Hall (Marianne) of Phoenix, Arizona; his sister, Joyce Campbell (Earl) of Richmond; his grandson, Austin Hall; and two nieces: Margaret Hurt (John), and Suzanne Campbell.
    His family by marriage includes two daughters: Sandra Dobson (Dean) of Irvine, and Vickie White (Jeff) of Lexington; six grandchildren: Joey Dobson (Andrea), Deborah Agee, Brianna Swain (Ryon), Alicia Baker (Josh), Andrea White, and Brinley White; and two great grandchildren, Devon Marie Bryant and Sara Griffin.
    The funeral service was conducted at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 23rd at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street, Richmond, with Bro. Dallas Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the College Hill Cemetery. Visitation was 4-8 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were John Hurt, Ryon Swain, Josh Baker, Joey Dobson, John Bryant and Jeff White.

Betty June Pennington Lambert, 87

    Betty June Pennington Lambert, age 87, of Winchester, Kentucky, widow of John “Jack” G. Lambert, whom she was married to for 64 years, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013, at her home.
    A native of Stockdale, Ohio, she was born June 28, 1926, to the late Matthew and Amanda Pennington. She retired from the Lexington Bluegrass Army Depot, was a member of the Winchester Church of the Nazarene where she was the adult Sunday School teacher, and she was a charter member of the Winchester Writers' Club.
    Survivors include one sister, Ethel P. Hughes of Louisville; five children: John G. Lambert Jr. of Winchester, Linda (K.W.) Black of Athens, Alabama; Larry (Kandy) Lambert, Elizabeth (Don) Dawson, and Jill (Fred) Goodman, all of Winchester, eleven grandchildren: John G. Lambert III, Bryan (Oneda) Lambert, Carol Ritchie (Ben) Mann, Cynthia Dawson (Paul) Campbell, Christopher Ritchie, Heather Goodman (Pete) Penichet, Ryan (Amy) Goodman, Julia Dawson (Jason) Dixon, Shane (Amy) Lambert, Joshua C. (Sabrina) Lambert, and Frederick H. Goodman; 25 great grandchildren, one great, great grandson, and good friend and neighbor, Bessie Wren.
    In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and and four sisters.
    Funeral services were at 11:30 a.m., Monday, September 23rd at the Winchester Church of the Nazarene by Bro. Bill Shumate and Bro. Lonnie Storm. The family received friends on Sunday, September 22nd, 6-8 p.m., at the Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home, 289 South Main Street, Winchester, and again on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of services at the church. Burial was in the Clarmont Memorial Gardens.
    Pallbearers were John G. Lambert III, Bryan Lambert, Christopher Ritchie, Ryan Goodman, Shane Lambert, Joshua C. Lambert and Frederick H. Goodman.

    Norma Jane Rogers, age 84, of Clay City, Kentucky, passed away at her residence, Thursday, September 19, 2013.
    She was the widow of Hubert Charles Rogers, a member of the Salem Baptist Church, and a housewife.
    She is survived by five sons: Hugh Rogers of Irvine, Norman David Rogers (Patsy) of Lexington, Timothy Rogers (Martha) of Richmond, Roy Rogers of Toledo, Ohio; Patrick Rogers of Clay City: and three daughters: Margaret Maldonado of Clay City, Jennifer Tapp (Leroy) and Pamela Baker, both of Sharpsburg.
    Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m, Tuesday, September 24th at the Salem Baptist Church. Friends visited from 6 till 9 p.m., Monday, September 23rd at Grayson Funeral Home Chapel, 201 7th Avenue, Clay City. Burial was in the Mountain Springs Cemetery.

Glendon Ray White, 73

    Glendon Ray White, age 73, of Drowning Creek Ridge Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a long illness.
    He was born May 13, 1940 in Estill County and was the son of the late Cecil and Effie Rose White. He was a retired Trane Company employee and was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy and had lived in Estill County all of his life.
    Mr. White is survived by his wife, Hester Neal White; one daughter, Ladonna Ellen Faye Reed, Estill County; two brothers: Tommy White, Winchester; and Robert White, Madison County; one grandchild, Sierra Cheyenne Reed; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his sister, Jeaness Moatts; a niece, Becky Ann Grey; and a nephew, Cecil Darrell Moatts.

Donna Faye Kendrick Sparks, 54

    Donna Faye Kendrick Sparks, age 54, of Reynolds Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington, following a short illness.
    She was born April 9, 1959 in Lee County and was the daughter of Archie Kendrick and the late Nannie Jean Miller Kendrick. She was an employee of the Jessamine County EMS and attended the Southland Christian Church. She had lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Mrs. Sparks is survived by her husband, Lehlan Paul Sparks; her father, Archie Kendrick, Wilmore; one son, Henry Wullis Sparks, Lexington; five sisters: Barbara Geier (Robin), Loveland, Ohio; Shelby Horn, Nicholasville; Patricia Graham, McDonough, Georgia; Sandra Newman (Mason), Nicholasville; and Terry Combs (Rick), Lexington; and two brothers: Larry Kendrick (Kathy), Nicholasville; and Archie Lee Kendrick (Dinah), Kings Mountain.
    Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 20th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Robin Geier and Mason Newman. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called after 10:30 a.m., Friday at the funeral home.

Harold "Glenn" Watson, 58

    Harold "Glenn" Watson, age 58, of Westport, Kentucky, died Monday, September 16, 2013.
    He was a conservation officer with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife for 22 years before retiring. Glenn was a member of Westport Baptist Church, Oldham Trimble Baptist Builders and on the board of the Oldham County Conservation District.
    Glenn was born on September 23, 1954 in Hardin County, Kentucky, and is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Thelma Smith Watson.
    He is survived by his wife, Tanya Johns Watson; sons Mica Watson (Jessica Reinbold), Clay Watson (Allye Marquez); daughters Anna and Sara Watson; brother Kenneth Watson (Debbie); sister Sandra Madden and grandson Noah Alexander Watson.
    A memorial service was held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at his church (Westport Baptist Church, 6415 Washington Street, Westport) with visitation from 3 p.m. until the service. The family invited all attending to a potluck dinner following the service at the church.

Effie Treva (Barker) Winkler

    Effie Treva (Barker) Winkler, age 84, of Hamilton, Ohio. Treva’s family was by her side when she was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 8:40 p.m. She passed away peacefully, in the home that she shared with her beloved husband, Kenneth, for 50 years.
    She was born in Hamilton on July 31, 1929, the daughter of Moss and Mossie (Isaacs) Barker. Her world changed when she met Kenneth Winkler, and the two became one in Irvine, Kentucky on September 2, 1950. Treva was employed at Twin Fair for 21 years. She was a member of Washington Chapter #195 Order of Eastern Star and Princeton Pike Church of God. Treva attended church faithfully until Alzheimer’s kept her from doing so. She loved the Lord, leaning on and trusting Him until the end. Her beliefs were strong and carried her throughout her life for 40+ years. Treva was a lioness by the way she loved and protected her cubs; she would have stood up and fought to the death for her daughters; Patty and Pam. They knew this about her and felt her amazing and unconditional love every day of their lives. Her children; Patty, Regan, Pamela, Greg, Dylan, and Marissa meant everything to her.
    She is survived by her two devoted daughters, Patricia S. Roark and Pamela Winkler Cox; and a beloved grandson, Dylan Travis Roark; four siblings: Betty Lou (Tommy) Hymer, Drucilla (Eddie) Muncie, Earl Barker, and Ronnie Barker; other family members: Johnny "John" (Renee) Barker, Jeffrey "Todd" Barker, and Jachelle Tricilla "Shellie" (Roger) Prescott; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and those special people in her life that she called family, Drew Miller, Johnny Ray Carberry, Travis Parsley, Brian Barker, and Marissa Michelle Moore; and a sister-in-law, Mattie Pauline Winkler, that she loved dearly.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; a brother, Stanley Tracy Barker; a sister, Barbara Ann White; two sons-in-law, Regan Roark and Greg Cox; and brothers-in-law Raymond Winkler, Glen Winkler, Robert Winkler, Dan White, Roscoe Lainhart, and Roy Marcum.
    The funeral service was held at the Princeton Pike Church of God, 6101 Princeton-Glendale Road, Hamilton, Ohio, on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Ron Medley officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation was held at the church on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

    Russell L. Patrick, age 37, loving father of Caleb Michael Patrick; passed away Saturday, September 14, 2013 in Green Township, Ohio.
    Born September 10, 1976, the cherished son of Michael and Betty (nee Frerick) Patrick, he was the dear brother of Ryan Patrick, Randy (Amanda) Patrick, and Rachel (Benjamin) Scott; and the beloved uncle of Jacob, Levi and Colton.
    He is survived by Alisa Schmidt (mother of Caleb) and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. He is also survived by loving caregivers, VaNece, Uncle Bob, Shannon, Ginny, Mike, Mack, Sherry and Marybeth.

Ovalene Clay Pendergest

    Ovalene Clay Stamper Pendergest, age 90, passed away Friday, September 13, 2013 at her home.
    She was born January 29, 1923 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Lemon and Mary Ellen Hall Stamper. She was a former White Castle employee and had lived in Estill County most of her life. She was a member of the Nazarene Church and a former member of the Estill County Homemakers.
    Mrs. Pendergest was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Pendergest Sr.
    She is survived by seven daughters: Sue Case, Frances Friend, Peggy Patrick, Carolyn Hall (Jim), Stella Gray, Dorita Marcum, and Bernie Abney (Junebug), all of Estill County; one son, Joseph Pendergest Jr., Estill County; one sister, Edith Hall, Estill County; 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by two sisters: Lodena Snowden and Jewell Johnson; three brothers: Shirley Stamper, Glenn Stamper and Ray Stamper; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
    Funeral services were conducted at 4:00 p.m., Monday, September 16th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Donnie Watson and Bro. Jim Hall with burial following at the Cobhill Cemetery. Friends called from 1:30 p.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.

    Franklin Dixon, age 72, of Camp Street in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2013 at his home, following a short illness.
    He was born April 2, 1941 in Estill County and was the son of the late Clarence and Mary Ellen Lunsford Dixon. He was an employee of the City of Irvine and a member of the Holiness Church. He had lived in Estill County all of his life.
    He is survived by his wife, Frances Cain Dixon; his mother-in-law, Edna Cain, Estill County; two daughters: Patricia Henry (Shelby), Estill County; and Agnes Dixon (Lester), Estill County; three sons: Franklin Dixon Jr., Estill County; Donnie Dixon (Sherry), Madison County; and Gene Dixon, (Vivian), Estill County; one brother: Johnny Dixon (Susie), Estill County; six grandchildren: Rebecca Henry, Melissa Henry, Brittany Dixon, Kimberly Dixon, Deandra Strange and Alex Dixon; and eight great grandchildren: Jacob Birchfield, Katelyn Neal, Andrew Conner, Hannah Gordon, Chloe Ray, Aubrey Means, Logan Rawlins and Kaylee Means.

    Brenda Morris Barnes, age 65, of Winchester Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2013, at her home following a long illness.
    She was born February 12, 1948 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Dillard and Juanita King Morris. She was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She had lived in Estill County all of her life.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Dudley Barnes.
    She is survived by three daughters: Rebecca Lynn Baker, Rhonda Kay Adams (Robert), and Susan Renee Bowling (Wade), all of Estill County; two sons: William Ray Barnes and Ronald Wayne Barnes, Estill County; one sister, Geneva Richardson, Estill County; six grandchildren: Theodore Joseph Baker Jr., Kristina Katlyn Marie Baker, Kendra Renee Murphy, Joshua Alan Baker, Ethan Hunter Bowling and Kaylee Beth Adams.
    She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Brenda LeAnna Baker.

Beverly Scott Cornett, 76

    Beverly Scott Cornett, age 76, passed away Thursday September 12, 2013 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
    A native of Estill County, he was born on March 19, 1937 to the late Isaac and Fannie Hilliard Cornett. Beverly was a retired machinist and former owner/manager of the Ritz Restaurant, a member of the American Legion Post #79 in Irvine, a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of Central Baptist Church.
    Survivors include his daughter, Alesia Welch (Arthur Jr.); a granddaughter, Libby Welch; a sister, Sue Stocker; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    In addition to his parents, Mr. Cornett was preceded in death by his infant son, Elmer Scott Cornett; six brothers: Forest, Isaac "Jr.", Lester, Earl, Harlan "Shorty" and Herbie Cornett; and two sisters, Lou Cornett and Jean Hornsby.
    Graveside services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 14th at the Clarmont Memorial Gardens in Winchester by Rev. Ryan Dotson with military honors by the Harold G. Epperson Marine Detachment to follow.

    Ann Gabbard Franklin, age 100, a resident of the Irvine, Kentucky, Health & Rehabilitation Center, passed away Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Center, following a long illness.
    She was born April 6, 1913 in Owsley County and was the daughter of the late Hiram Press and Mary Creech Gabbard. She was a retired General Electric employee and a member of the Irvine First Baptist Church. She had lived in Cynthiana most of her life.
    Mrs. Franklin was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Franklin.
    She is survived by four nieces and nephews: Monty Gabbard, Irvine; Eva Mae Sparks, Dorithea Nichols, both of Mount Sterling; and Joey Shearer, Maryland.
    She was preceded in death by four sisters: Mae Shearer, Callie Johnson, Pearl Stevens and Hattie Kieper; and three brothers: Tolby, Otto and Billy Gabbard.
