Mary Maxine Sparks Flynn, 75
Mary Maxine Sparks Flynn, age 75, a resident of the Irvine Health & Rehabilitation Center passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014, at the Center following a long illness.
She was born February 14, 1938 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Eli and Clay Tipton Sparks. She was a homemaker and caregiver and a member of the South Irvine Christian Church. She had lived in Estill County all of her life.
Ms. Flynn is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Flynn Stepp (James), Irvine; four sons: James Eli Flynn, Rocky Flynn, Tony Flynn (Sandy), and Glen Flynn, all of Irvine; three sisters: Lydia McKinney, Hazel Noland, and Estine King, all of Irvine; five brothers: Earl Sparks, Berea; Eli Sparks Jr., Irvine; Delbert Sparks, Berea; Phillip Sparks and Michael Sparks, both of Irvine; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five brothers: Donald, Odell, Raymond, Rollie and Randall Sparks.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 12th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the Sparks Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Tuesday, February 11th at the funeral home.

John Frank Goodwin, 63
John Frank Goodwin, age 63, of Spout Springs Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014, at the Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, following a sudden illness.
He was born February 1, 1951 in Powell County and was the son of the late Maxie and Violet Tipton Goodwin. He was a carpenter and had lived in Estill County all of his life.
He is survived by one daughter, Rita Valene Greene (Chris), Winfield, Tennessee; five sisters: Nellie Ballard, Estill County; Julie Puckett, Norma Conner, both of Powell County; Bessie Tipton, Ohio; and Allie Goodwin, Powell County; three brothers: Roger Goodwin, Oklahoma; Robert Goodwin, Powell County; and Bill Goodwin, Middletown, Kentucky; and three grandchildren: Ethan Isaacs, Aubree Isaacs and Ella Greene.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Floyd Tracy Goodwin.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 11th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Chris Greene. Burial was at the Gray Cemetery. Friends called after 11:00 a.m., Tuesday at the the funeral home.
 Pallbearers were Greg Goodwin, Don Cockerham, Clifford Ballard, Chris Howell, Dawayne Conner, Fred Ballard and Garland Ballard.

Stanley Gene Wiseman, 65
Stanley Gene Wiseman, age 65, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2014, at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center.
He was born on July 2, 1948, in Irvine, to the late Vernon and Mary Alice Walling Wiseman. He was a United States Army veteran, and earned the National Defense Service Medal, as well as the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars for his service to his country during the Vietnam War. Stanley loved to spend time with his grandchildren, and also enjoyed attending his church – Richmond House of Prayer.
Survivors include two sons: Randall Wiseman, and Danny Sebastian; two brothers: Cebert Wiseman (Lucille), and Raymond Wiseman (Louise); five grandchildren: Stacy Winkler, Alex Wiseman, Aryne Sebastian, Addison Sebastian, and Adryana Sebastian; and several special friends: Rita Sebastian, Alan Hatfield, Buddy Durham, and Lawrence Hayes.
In addition to his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by four brothers: Edward, Winfred, John Dewey, and Tracy Wiseman; and one sister, Anna Mae Wiseman.
Funeral Services will be held at the Richmond House of Prayer, 330 Mule Shed Lane, Richmond, on Wednesday, February 12, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., with Bro. Owen Moody and Rev. Clyde Wimmer Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the White Oak Cemetery in Estill County with full military honors. Visitation was from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, February 11th at the church.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Durham, Tommy Ballard, Raymond Hager, Sam Cox, Gary Wilson, and Joey Estes.
Honorary pallbearers will be Aryne Sebastian, Tammy Cundiff, and Chasity Henderson.
The family would like to thank the Hospice Compassionate Care Center for their kindness and help during this time.

Dennis Burgess Bates, 75
Dennis Burgess Bates, age 75, of Irvine, Kentucky, husband of Diane Jacobs Bates, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
Mr. Bates was born in North Middletown, Kentucky, on October 26, 1938 to the late Henderson and Ruth Calvert Bates. He was retired from IBM and a member of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Sharon Turner; three stepdaughters: Shannon Congleton, Kimberly Link, and Helen Flinchum; a stepson, Earl Wayne Congleton; two brothers: Harold Bates and Carl Fred Bates; and seven sisters: Arlene Eades, Donna Gaunce, Brenda Murphy, Nancy Dotson, Marilyn Stewart, Doris Swartz, and Judy Shelley.
He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Burgess Bates, Jr. and his brother, Julian Bates.
Funeral services were private. A memorial service may be held at a later date.

Clarence Randall Stamper, 53
Clarence Randall Stamper, age 53, East College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014.
He was born April 27, 1960 in Clark County to the late Oakley Burton and Elsie Baker Stamper.
Survivors include, a daughter, Kara Hernandez (Antonio), Texas; a son, Randall Stamper (Erica), Irvine; the mother of his children, Tina Stamper; his life companion, Kym Brock; ten brothers: Oakley Stamper Jr., Henry Stamper, Harold Stamper, Dale Stamper, Donald Stamper, Ray Stamper, Floyd Stamper, Allen Stamper, Paul Stamper, and Russell Stamper; two sisters: Nellie Beach and Lois Beach; and four grandchildren: Randall and Alex Stamper, and Dylan and Vanessa Hernandez.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services were at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 9th at Davis & Davis Funeral Home, 777 West College Avenue, Stanton. Visitation was 6-9 p.m., Saturday, February 8th at the funeral home.

Virginia Lee “Hoppy” Babb, age 71, of Pitts Road in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at her home following a short illness.
She was born January 5, 1943 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Ed and Mary Powell Farthing. She was a homemaker and attended the House of Prayer and the Body of Christ. She had lived in Hamilton, Ohio most of her life.
Mrs. Babb was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Babb.
She is survived by four daughters: Sharon Jackson (Bruce), Fairfield, Ohio; Teresa Napier (Richard Lambert), Fairfield, Ohio; Brenda Paddack (Dan), Hamilton, Ohio; and Kathy Yeary (Rob), Ravenna; one sister, Willene Riddell, Irvine; one brother, Bobby Farthing (Sharon). Hamilton, Ohio; seven grandchildren: Mandy Glynn (Mike), Stevie Napier, Courtney Brann (Tony), Ronnie Yeary, Brittany Paddack, Ronnie Yeary and Alyssa Payne; five great grandchildren: Allie, Nolan, Ava, Connor and Colten; and her special dog, Coco.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Karrie Babb; one grandchild, Brandon Napier; and eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 8th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Bill Wesley. Burial was at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Friday, February 7th at the funeral home.

Joy L. Brumagen Gilbert, 54
Equine photographer Joy L. Brumagen Gilbert, age 54, wife of Kevin Gilbert passed away Monday, February 3, 2014 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, after a lengthy illness.
A resident of Nicholasville, she was born September 29, 1958 in Winchester, the daughter of Vivian Berryman Brumagen and the late John Brumagen. Joy was an accomplished equine photographer working with many of the well known Central Kentucky horse farms. She was the granddaughter of Grace Berryman, Winchester; and the late Sheridan Berryman.
The Daily Racing Form says Gilbert was best known for her stallion conformation photography for several Central Kentucky farms, including Lane's End, Spendthrift, and others; as well as photos of young horses, mares, and scenic shots.
Besides her husband and mother, survivors include a daughter, Hannah Cheyenne Gilbert, Lexington; and a brother, Tom Brumagen (Cindy), Winchester.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, February 7th at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington; with visitation prior to the service, 12:30-2:30 p.m. Burial was in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

Gerald W. Estes, 70
Gerald W. Estes, age 70, of Fairfield, Ohio, passed away in Port Richey, Florida, on Sunday, February 2, 2014.
He was born to the late Edward and Bertha Estes on August 7, 1943 in Winchester, Kentucky. Gerald graduated from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. He was a veteran in the United States Army and later he went on to retire from the Preble County Sheriff’s Department. He also was an EMT on the Camden Life Squad for many years. Gerald worked at Mosler Safe Company and retired after 16 years. He was a member of Moraine City First Church of God.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Wilma Estes, of 51 years, and together they had three children Gerald Jr., William, Kimberly (Joe) Swartz; six grandchildren: Gerald III, William Jr., Jacob, Joshua, Owen, Kaitlyn; and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by two siblings: Harold Samuel (Barbara) from Fairfield, Ohio; and Virginia Isaacs (Charlie) from Irvine, Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Benny.
Gerald’s visitation was Sunday, February 9, 2014 from 5pm-7pm at the Ivey Funeral Home, 2565 Princeton Road, Fairfield Township, Ohio; with funeral services following on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum Chapel.
