Estill Marching Engineers Named "Grand Champions" For First Time In School History

Estill Engineers Marching Band

Band Gets FOUR "Bests"
The Estill County Marching Engineers have been named Grand Champions in competition for the first time in the school’s history. They earned that honor on Saturday, September 20, 2014 in the Mason County competition at Maysville.
The Marching Engineers got off to a fantastic start in their first week's competition, in Bourbon County, with a second place in division and won “Best Visual” caption and a pit crew award.
They traveled to Montgomery County the following week, on September 13th, and outscored four other bands in their class to take first place in their division. In finals, they placed third overall, only behind Madison Central and last year’s 3A champs, Bourbon County.
Estill’s score improved almost 10 points from the first week. “I have never had a group improve this much over the course of a week,” remarked band director Jason Bowles.
Then, this past Saturday, the Estill County Marching Engineers traveled to Mason County for their third week's regular season competition.
It was “less than a stellar preliminary performance,” according to Bowles, however, Estill still managed to win first place in their class (for the second straight week).

Estill Color Guard

Out of the 12 total participating bands, only eight would advance to finals competition based on the preliminary results. Estill advanced to finals with the second highest score out of all 12 bands . . . second only to class rival Washington County who edged out the band by three points.
After a truly amazing performance in finals competition, the Marching Engineers awaited the final results. Out of the eight finalist bands, the Marching Engineers received the following overall awards:
    ● Best Overall Music Performance
    ● Best Overall Visual Performance
    ● Best Overall Effect, and . . .
    ● GRAND CHAMPION!, earning the highest score of all competing bands.
This is “another major milestone for this program,” said Bowles. Earlier he remarked, “It’s going to be another fun season and we are hoping for, and working toward, amazing results at the end.”
Looks like amazing results are already showing up for the Estill County Marching Engineers. “Congratulations and good luck!”
