Blanche Samples Birchfield, 90

    Blanche Samples Birchfield, age 90, widow of Harold Birchfield, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2015 at the Kenwood Health & Rehab Center in Richmond, Kentucky, after a long illness.
    She was a native of Estill County, born July 26, 1925, a daughter of the late Oscar David and Emza Howell Samples. Mrs. Birchfield was a member of the Ravenna Christian Church, a University of Kentucky Wildcat basketball fan, a great cook, and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker.
    She was preceded in death by her son, H.W. "Butch" Birchfield; her brother, Oscar David Samples; and her sister, Billie Samples West.
    Survivors include her son, Mark Birchfield; her brother, Charles Samples (Patsy); her sister, Brenda Hardy (Butch); her grandchildren: Kevin Birchfield, Keith Birchfield (Erica), Brianna Robbins (Stephen), Casie Smith, and Riley Birchfield; and her great grandchildren: Hayden Robbins, Max Birchfield, Savannah Smith, and Jaden Birchfield.
    Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 30th at Lewis Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Baughman and Bro. Tony White officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call anytime after 11:00 a.m., Thursday, until service time, at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers will be Keith Birchfield, Kevin Birchfield, Riley Birchfield, Steve Robbins, Michael Hardy, and Michael McKinney.

Tracy Warner, 88

    Tracy Warner, age 88, of Sandhill Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday July 25, 2015, at the Marcum and Wallace Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
    He was born July 11, 1927, in Estill County, the son of the late Ed and China Rose Warner. He was a retired carpenter and a farmer. Mr. Warner was a member of the Sandhill Christian Church and had lived in Estill County most of his life. He was a veteran of the Army where he served in World War II.
    Mr. Warner is survived by a special friend, Lois Mansfield; his aunt, Myrtle M. Rose; and several cousins.
    He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Warner.
    Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 28th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Matt Vaught and Bro. Ronald Lutes with burial following in the Rose Freeman Cemetery. Friends called from 6-8 p.m., Monday, July 27th at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Harold Johnson, Leon Dennis, Jerry Gilbert, Jake Rose, Brad Taylor, Jerry Rose, Mark Rose and Ron Phillips.

Cleta Mae Witt Allen, 84

    Cleta Mae Witt Allen, age 84, of Winchester Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, July 24, 2015 at her home, following a long illness.
    She was born December 17, 1930, in Estill County, the daughter of the late O. W. and Emma Caudill Witt. She retired from the Lexington Bluegrass Army Depot where she was an Administrative Clerk. She was a charter member of the Ivory Hill Baptist Church and had lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis D. Allen.
    She is survived by three daughters: Betty Brooks, Estill County; Wanda Hare (James), Georgia; and Norma Roark (Glen), Alabama; one son, Lewis David Allen Jr., Estill County; and four grandchildren: Michelle Brooks, Johnny Brooks Jr. (Julie), Stewart Sheckler (Dawn) and Flint Childers; 12 great grandchildren and one great, great grandson.
    Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Dunaway.
    Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 28th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Stewart Sheckler and Bro. Marvin Neal with burial following in the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called after 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, until service time, at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Johnny Brooks Jr., Shane Richardson, Tyler Glasson, James Hare, Will Delk and Randy Householder.
    Honorary pallbearers were Dakota Glasson, Jack Delk, Trey Brooks and Victor Blackburn Jr.

    Ray D. Snowden, 80, widower of Margaret Woolery Snowden, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2015.
    He was born October 15, 1934, a son of the late Everett and Beatrice Wilson Snowden. He was a retired carpenter.
    Mr. Snowden was preceded in death by his brothers: Thomas Elva Snowden and Earl K. Snowden; and his sister:s Genna Bea Tyson and Rosetta Fitzgerald.
    Survivors include his daughter, Cynthia Snowden; his son, Jimmy Ray Snowden (Royetta); two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
    Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 25th at Lewis Funeral Home with Bro. Glendon Woosley officiating. Burial was in the Dunaway Cemetery. Visitation was held from 11:00 a.m. until service time, Saturday, at the funeral home

    Virda Baker Pelfrey, age 82, Clay City, Kentucky, widow of Orville Pelfrey, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2015, at her home. She was the aunt of Harold Stamper and others of Irvine.
    Mrs. Pelfrey was born October 11, 1932 in Powell County to the late James Clark and Nancy Tipton Baker.
    Survivors include two sons: Robert Eugene Pelfrey, Texas; and Roy Vinson Pelfrey, Clay City; one daughter, Shirley Fern Warner, Michigan; one sister, Emma May Hartzog, Louisville; grandchildren: Tina Sanderland, Velvet Garver, Vanessa Polk, Camron Warner, Christy Bond, Johny Browning, Denise Miller, Earl Pelfrey, Joeanna Pelfrey, and Carmon Pelfrey; and great grandchildren, Zach Garver, Sarah Garver, Wayne Deblock III, Chelsa Deblock, Leah Deblock, Celsey Hieght, Jon Bond, Amber Browning, Levi Miller and Jesse Miller.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Orville Pelfrey; brothers, Paul Baker, Mervin Eugene Baker, and Clarence Baker; and sisters, Ona Fay and Elsie Stamper.
    Services were at 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 27th at Davis & Davis Funeral Home, 777 West College Avenue, Stanton by Rev. Anthony Molihan. Visitation was Sunday, July 26th, 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial was in the Hatton Creek Cemetery, Stanton with Fred Warner, Camron Warner, Earl Pelfrey, Junior Stamper, Wiley Miller, and Guy Garver serving as pallbearers.

Maggie E. Fouch

    Maggie E. Fouch, 78, wife of Logan Fouch, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at her home.
    She was born January 5, 1937 to the late Jimmy and Dorothy Goodwin Hall.
    Survivors include her husband, Logan Fouch, Clay City; two sons: Alan Fouch (Anna), Clay City; and Herman Fouch (Mary), Lexington; two daughters: Marie Dixon (Ray), Irvine, and Marlene Wren (Bobby), Clay City; five brothers, Franklin Hall, Amery Hall, Rodney Hall, Scottie Hall and Richard Hall; one sister, Helen Corey; 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
    Mrs. Fouch was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Charlie Fouch; and one daughter, Ida Mae Fouch.
    Services were at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 25th at Davis & Davis Funeral Home, 777 West College Avenue, Stanton. Visitation was 5-9 p.m., Friday, July 24th, Burial was in the Hall Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Shirley Faye Hall Hicks, 70

    Shirley Faye Hall Hicks, age 70, of Majestic Drive in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at her home, following a short illness.
    She was born May 14, 1945 in Powell County and was the daughter of the late Sherman and Jean Irene Catron Hall. She was the owner of Dollar Deals and attended the Emmanuel Baptist Church. She had lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Mrs. Hicks is survived by her son, Joseph Scott Hicks, Estill County; and two sisters: Donna Floyd, Estill County; and Linda Fields, Michigan.
    Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 24th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Sherl Thomas. Burial was at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Thursday, July 23rd at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Mike Conrad, Jessie Stone, David King, Frank Dixon, Jr., Anthony Scenters, and Dan Rogers.

Oliver Elwood Gould, 80

    Oliver Elwood Gould, age 80, of North Court Street in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Baptist Health Richmond Hospital after a short illness.
    He was born April 24, 1935, in Estill County, the son of the late Nathan Henry and Fannie Jo Richardson Gould. He retired from Southwestern Life Insurance Company and was a member of the First Christian Church. He graduated from the American College of Life Insurance with a C.L.U. and had lived in Estill County most of his life. He was a member and Former Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge and a former member of the Lions Club and the Kiwanis Club.
    Mr. Gould is survived by his wife: Anna Genevieve Flynn Gould; one daughter, Rhonda Michelle Mitchell (Forest Gene Jr.), Louisiana; one son, Eric Todd Gould (Trish), Irvine; one sisster, Betty Lou Lane (George), Irvine; one brother, Harold Gould (Dixie), Winchester; and four grandchildren: Jordan Wade Mitchell, Tyler Clay Mitchell, Eric Blake Gould and Nathan Oliver Gould.
    He was preceded in death by a stepbrother, Kelly Morefield.
    Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 21st at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Greg Humpert with burial to follow at the Sandhill Cemetery. Friends called from 6-9 p.m., Monday, July 20th at the funeral home.

Edric White Newman

    Edric White Newman, age 85, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center of Richmond. She is the grandmother of Judge Bo Leach.
    Mrs. Newman was born in Richmond, Kentucky on December 15, 1929, to Shelby and Irene Clem White, both of whom preceded her in death. She was the widow of Delton C. Newman and a retired Circuit Clerk of Madison County, where she served for 30 years. Mrs. Newman was a member of Kirksville Baptist Church and the Madison County Democratic Women’s Club.
    Survivors include one daughter, Connie Leach (Jerry) of Richmond; one son, Thomas Newman (Deena) of Leesburg, Georgia; four grandchildren, Kelly Philbeck, the Honorable William “Bo” Leach, Whitney McWilliams and Alison Newman, as well as four great-grandchildren, Eric Philbeck, Noah McWilliams, Addilyn Leach and Ellory Leach.
    In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda White; and a brother, Shelby White.
    Services for Mrs. Newman were conducted at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 18th at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, 1110 Barnes Mill Road, Richmond, with Rev. Ronnie “Butch” Pennington and Rev. Thomas Newman officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation was from 5 – 9 p.m., Friday, July 17th at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were the Honorable William “Bo” Leach, the Honorable Earl Ray Neal, Donnie Philbeck, Eric Philbeck, Rodney Davis, and Nathan White.
    Members of the Madison County Bar Association will serve as honorary bearers.

Robert "Bobby" Burkhart, 80

    Robert "Bobby" Burkhart, age 80, husband of Juanita Baber Burkhart, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015 at his home.
    He was born in Clark County on March 23, 1935 to the late Floyd and Bertha Carmichael Burkhart. He served in the United States Army from July, 1958 until July, 1960 and worked for Rockwell International for 25 years. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and a Kentucky Colonel.
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers: Gerald Burkhart (Mamie) of Winchester and Billy Burkhart (Joy) of Irvine; one brother-in-law, Danny Baber; one nephew, Tim Burkhart (Missy); two nieces: Shirley Price (Wally) and Cheryl Denham (Brian); one sister-in-law, Ada Burkhart; one step sister, Shelia Cecil (Murrel); and one step brother, Harold Howard (Imogene).
    Mr. Burkhart was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wilbert Burkhart; nephew, Gerald "Jerry" Burkhart; step mother-in-law, Relda Burkhart; and step brother, Eugene Howard.
    Services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 17th at Scobee Funeral Home, 219 West Lexington Avenue, Winchester, by Pastors Travis Drake, Barney Bates and Tony Cecil. Burial was in Log Lick Cemetery. Visitation was from 11:00 a.m. until time of service, Friday, at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Jr. Burkhart, Tim Burkhart, Ike McKinny, Terry Cavic, Walter Hunt and Jerry Wilson.

Jeannette Bonny King, 85

Jeannette Bonny King

    Jeannette Bonny King, age 85, widow of Joseph M. King, passed away Monday, July 13, 2015 at the Marcum Wallace Hospital in Irvine, Kentucky, after a long illness. Mrs. King was a native of Madison County, born May 20, 1930, a daughter of the late Arthur and Myrtle Clouse Bonny. She was a former telephone operator, the proprietor of Jen's Fabric shop for 17 years. She was a member of the Irvine United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Philathea Sunday School Class. Mrs. King was a member of the Woman's Club, Kiwanis Club, Homemaker's Club, Eastern Star #357, the Garden Club She was a bowling enthusiast, and a member of a women's state champion team. Mrs. King was very active in her community, volunteering for the Mushroom festival, tutoring reading at the local elementary schools, and playing the part of Mrs.Claus in the annual Christmas Parade for many, many years. She enjoyed reading and writing poetry and prose.
    She was preceded in death by her siblings: Lucille Bonny, A.W. Bonny, Toots Bonny Hall, Ann Bonny Stickley, Thomas Bonny, Ed Bonny, Bill Bonny and her twin brother, Gene Bonny. She was also preceded in death by her grandson Joseph M. "Jay" King III.
    Survivors include her daughter, Nada Witt (Mark); her sons, Joseph M. King II. (Sheila), and Gene Scott King (Valerie), all of Irvine; her brother, Jim Bonny of Dayton; her sister, Peggy Garrett of Irvine; her grandchildren: Jennifer Reynolds (Brad), Janet Thompson (Zach), Victoria Barnett (Drew), Andrew Witt, Nicole King, and Summer King, all of Irvine; and Stephanie Collins (Chip) of Richmond; her great-grandchildren: Havyn Reynolds, Easton Reynolds, Carter Barnett and Lyla Collins, all of Irvine; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Services were held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 17th at the Irvine United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Hatton, Rev. John Hatton, and Bro. Jimmy Bonny officiating. Burial followed in the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends called anytime after 6:00 p.m., Thursday, July 16th at Lewis Funeral Home, and after 10:00 a.m. until service time, Friday, at the church.
    Pallbearers were Andrew Witt, Brad Reynolds, Chip Collins, Drew Barnett, Zach Thompson and Tim Gould.
