Albert Webb, 96

    Albert Webb, age 96, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, August 14, 2015 at the Marcum and Wallace Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
    He was born June 28, 1919 in Madison County, the son of the late Millard and Dora Brock Webb. He was a boiler engineer with Stone Containers Corporation and had lived in Estill County since 1980. He was a member of Full Gospel Evangelistic Ministries.
    Mr. Webb was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Bailey Webb.
    He is survived by one daughter, Linda Sue Herron, Ohio; five stepdaughters: Judy Dunaway, Madison County; Priscilla Woods, Gayla Melton, Shirlene Chaney, and Bonnie Hall, all of Irvine; two stepsons: Lloyd James Barnett, Irvine; and Michael Larry Barnett, Madison County; two brothers: Russell Webb, Miamisburg, Ohio; and Doyle Webb, Madison County; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren.
    In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by: two children: Margie Webb Lakes and Albert Donathan Webb; two stepsons: Kenny Barnett and Phillip Barnett; and two sisters: Jean Slusher and Farry Campbell.
    Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, August 16th at the Full Gospel Evangelistic Ministries by Bro. Larry Collins with burial to follow in the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m., Saturday, August 14th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home.

Harold Bruce Calmes, 96

Harold Bruce Calmes

    Harold Bruce Calmes, 96, widower of Burnadean Pruett Calmes, died Tuesday, August 11th, 2015, at the Veteran's Home in Hazard, Kentucky.
    He was born October 11, 1918 in Lee County, Kentucky, the son of William Bruce Calmes and Alva Goocey Calmes. He was married to Burnadean Pruett Calmes on the 24th of November, 1940, and had a loving and happy marriage for over 69 years.
    Mr. Calmes was preceded in death by his wife, Burnadean Pruett Calmes; a daughter-in-law, Audrey Barr Calmes; a sister, Juanita Calmes Thomas (and husband Harry Glenn); a brother, Herman Calmes; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Calmes.
    He is survived by one son, James Gary Calmes; one grandson, Juneau Calmes (Mary); two great grandchildren: Claire and Devon; one brother, Howard Calmes; one sister-in-law, Jean Calmes; four nieces; a special cousin, Betty Rae Dennis Berger; several other cousins and many friends.
    Brother Calmes was an ordained minister for the Southern Baptist Churches, and a member of the Salem Baptist Church in Irvine. He was active in mission work through the First Baptist Church of Irvine and the South Lebanon Baptist Church of South Lebanon Ohio. He was also active in the Brotherhood work in both churches before accepting the call to the ministry in September, 1962, at which he served for 30 years. He was pastor at Valley View Mission for five years in Estill County and also pastor at Salem Baptist Church in Estill County for five years before he was called to be pastor of Singelton Baptist Church in Singleton Texas. He also pastored at Stone Coal Baptist in Lee County and Wind Cave Baptist in Jackson County. He was one of 15 men who was active in starting and supporting Ivory Hill Baptist in Estill County in 1947 and 1948.
    He and his dear wife made many friends in Texas, Ohio and Kentucky, and he leaves behind many friends even today. He dear wife was always by his side, willing to go wherever he felt led to go. She was a faithful wife and mother, and the wife God called her to be. When he and his wife married, November 24, 1940, they became what God said in his word, they became one flesh in the Lord to love each other and serve the Lord, until death did them part. He was faithful, as a good shepherd of his church; he loved to visit his people and the lost souls of his field of service, he loved to sing praises unto the Lord and he loved his church.
    Mr. Calmes was a veteran of World War II and a member of the DAV.
    Services will be held Saturday, August 15th at 2:00 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Smith officiating. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the West Irvine Cemetery.
    Pallbearers will be Billy Cooper, Bill Smyth, Don Collier, Juneau Calmes, Leonard Harvis, and Charlie Park.

Ledford Lancaster, 93

    Ledford Lancaster, age 93, husband of Shirley Temple Lancaster, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015 at the Marcum Wallace Hospital in Irvine, Kentucky.
    He was a native of Estill County, born January 27, 1922, a son of the late Buford and Docie Hoover Lancaster. Mr. Lancaster had been a farmer his entire life.
    He was preceded in death by his brother, Jessie Lancaster; and his sisters: Violet Gilbert, Retha Hertle, Gathel Roark, Ruth Richardson, and Sue Babb.
    Survivors, other than his wife Shirley, include his son, Charles Burford Lancaster; his sister, Mae Richardson; several nieces and nephews, and lots of friends and neighbors.
    A graveside service was held at the Hoover Cemetery.
    Pallbearers were David Burns, Bobby Burns, Jimmy Johnson, Kenneth Brinegar, Gerald Flynn, and Doug Adams.

Eliza Richardson Isaacs, 73

Eliza Richardson Isaacs, 73

    Eliza Richardson Isaacs, age 73, of Old Fox Road, Irvine, Kentucky, died on Monday, July 27, 2015 at the home of her daughters, Lois and Teresa, after a short illness. She was surrounded by her family and friends and Hospice in her final hours.
    She is preceded in death by her parents, Tillman and Dolly Richardson, her two sons, and her husband of 55 years, Willie Isaacs.
    Mrs. Isaacs is survived by her four daughters: Teresa, Lois, Pauline and Lorene; and her four sons, Glyndon, Harold, Jimmy and Stanley. Also surviving is her daughter-in-law, Gladys Isaacs.
    Thanks to everyone who was by her side when she was passing over. God bless you.

Helen Garrett Rhodes, 83

    Helen Garrett Rhodes, age 83, the widow of W. Earl Rhodes, of Richmond, Kentucky, died Sunday, August 9, 2015.
    She was born in Estill County on September 28, 1931 to Hobert Garrett and Pearl Floyd Garrett. She was a retired employee of Philips Lighting Co., formerly Westinghouse, and also served as hostess for Cedar Village Restaurant in Irvine. Mrs. Rhodes was a member of First Baptist Church in Richmond but for many years was a member of Cedar Grove Methodist Church in Irvine.
    She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Whitaker (Dean); two sons, Harold Gene Stevens (Jennifer), and Kenneth Lee Stevens (Joy); two stepdaughters: Cathy Whitaker (Mark), and Peggy Parks; three grandchildren, Todd Tipton (Amy), Amanda Jolly (Austin), and Brittany Stevens; a great granddaughter, Hope Tipton; a sister-in-law, Mary Garrett; a nephew, Bill (Sharon) Garrett; and many other extended family members.
    In addition to her husband, W. Earl Rhodes, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew L. Parks; her parents, Hobert Garrett and Pearl Floyd Garrett; her brother, Douglas L. Garrett; infant twin brothers, Harold Dean Garrett and Carroll Gene Garrett; a granddaughter, Cassandra Gray; and a grandson, Steven Garrett Tipton.
    Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 12th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Greg McClellan with burial following in West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called between 5 and 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 11th at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Robert Calder, Bill Garrett, Ralph Howe, Charles Park, Todd Tipton and Dean Whitaker.

Lucille Sparks Brandenburg, 74

    Lucille Sparks Brandenburg, 74, wife of Matt Colby Brandenburg, passed away Friday, August 7, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
    She was a native of Estill County, born August 23, 1940, a daughter of the late Jesse Everett and Maggie Elizabeth Rawlins Sparks. She enjoyed cooking and canning. Mrs. Brandenburg was formerly employed at the Curlee Clothing Company of Winchester for fifteen years and was also was a caregiver to the elderly for fifteen years. She was a member of the Ravenna Church of God.
    Mrs. Brandenburg was preceded in death by her brother, Herman Sparks; and her sister, Mildred Dawson.
    Survivors other than her husband of over 50 years, Matt Colby Brandenburg, include her son, Michael Dewayne Brandenburg; her sisters: Helen Fallen (Kelly) and Edith Mae Rainey (Harold); her brothers: Ernest Lee Sparks (Cheryi), Jessie Jr. Sparks (Crystal), Clyde Sparks (Patty), Charlie Sparks, and Hubert Sparks (Louise); two grandchildren: Hannah and Jacob Brandenburg; and several nieces and nephews.
    Services were held at Lewis Funeral Home on Monday, August 10th at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Hargus Gordon officiating. Burial followed in the Stephens Cemetery. Friends called at the funeral home anytime after 6:00 p.m., Sunday, August 9th and 9:00 a.m. until service time on Monday.
    Pallbearers were Eric Sparks, David Sparks, Gary Sparks, Larry Sparks, Jason Rainey, Kevin Sparks.

Kenneth Eugene Caldwell, Sr., 68

    Kenneth Eugene Caldwell, Sr., age 68, of South Winn Avenue in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, August 3, 2015, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.
    He was born October 2, 1946 in Lee County and was the son of the late Omar and Ruby Rogers Caldwell. He was a retired Trane Company employee and a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Caldwell is survived by his wife, Frances Mae Rose Caldwell; one daughter, Tonya Nicole Isaacs Beard (Chad), Estill County; two sons: Kenneth Caldwell, Jr., Estill County; and Dwight David Durbin (Jennifer), Madison County; one stepdaughter, Kathy Isaacs, Madison County; two sisters: Nancy Tipton, Estill County; and Virginia Caldwell, Lee County; one brother, Gary Caldwell, Fayette County; and three grandchildren: Carter Durbin, Mason Durbin and Addison Beard.
    He was preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Sharon Durbin; and three brothers: Darrell, Bobby and Jerry Caldwell.
    Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 6th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Marion Brewer and Bro. Jason Brooks. Burial was at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Wednesday, August 5th at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Devon Caldwell, Eric Caldwell, Wayne Tapp, Paul Samples, Bo Rogers and Larry Hobbs.
    Honorary pallbearers were Carter Durbin, Mason Durbin, and Addison Beard.

David Freyman, 60

    David Freyman, age 60, of Means, Kentucky, died Saturday evening, August 1, 2015, at his residence. He loved gardening and was a longtime member of Estill County’s Garden Thyme Herb Club.
    Mr. Freyman was born January 6, 1955 in Allentown, Pennsylvania to the late Dale & Rose Stier Freyman.
    David was a general contractor in construction, of the Christian Biblical Church of God faith, and he moved to Means four years ago from Port St. Lucie, Florida. He was a knowledge seeker and had a passion for computers and technology and also enjoyed being a part of the prepper movement. David will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
    Survivors include his wife, Sandra Mauk Freyman of Means; three sons, Patrick Freyman (Afsaneh) of Sun Valley, California, Clinton Freyman (Donna) of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Benjamin Freyman of Means; one brother, Jimmy Freyman of Wellington, Kentucky; three sisters, Roseanne Whitney (Donald) of Melbourne, Florida, Cindy Freyman and Ruth Noll (Mark) both of North Carolina.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Dennis Freyman and two sisters, Donna and Diane Freyman.
    The family had a private memorial service.
    Arrangements were made by Coffman Funeral Service of Mount Sterling.

Helen Ballard Barnes, 73

    Helen Ballard Barnes, age 73, of Rice Street Apartments in Irvine, Kentucky, widow of Clyde Barnes, died around Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington.
    She was a native of Estill County, born May 15, 1942, a daughter of the late Jim and Rosa Henry Ballard. She had lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Mrs. Barnes is survived by two sons: Eldon Barnes and Bobby Sam Barnes (Beth), both of Irvine; two grandchildren: Kaitlyn Barnes and Bobby Sam Barnes; and three sisters: Emma Lee Neal, Evie B. West and Martha Bush.
    She was preceded in death by one sister, Edith M. West; and three brothers: Arthur Ballard, T.J. Ballard, and O.W. Ballard.
    A graveside memorial service was held Saturday, August 1st at the Gray Cemetery in Ravenna.

Christine Woolery Abner, 82

    Christine Woolery Abner, 82, widow of Charles F. “C.F.” Abner, passed away Friday, July 31, 2015, in Hazard, Kentucky.
    She was a native of Estill County, a daughter of the late Louis and Martha Carol Woolery. Mrs. Abner was a homemaker.
    She was preceded in death by her brothers, James and Bobby Gene Woolery; and her sister, Margaret Snowden.
    Survivors include two sisters: Louise Wiseman(Raymond), and Mary Jenkins; and several nieces and nephews.
    Services were held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 4th at Lewis Funeral Home with Bro. Glendon Woosley officiating. Burial followed in the Abner Cemetery. Friends called anytime after 11:00 a.m until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Luther B. Dunaway, 84

    Luther B. Dunaway, age 84, departed his earthly home Friday, May 15, 2015. He was residing at Brook Vale Assisted Living in Ocala, Florida.
    He was born in Irvine, Kentucky, June 30, 1930, a son of the late Willie Dunaway and Mollie Powell Dunaway.
    Luther is survived by five siblings: Margaret Cornett Kerrison, Louise D. Holbrook (Ray), Shirley D. Durbin (Scotty), Larry Dunaway (Jean), and Darrell Dunaway.
    He was preceded in death by a sister, Chestina D. Noland (Paul Noland) and two brothers, George Dunaway (Alice) and Elmer Dunaway (Donna).
    Luther is also survived by his close friend Don Jenkins.
    Private services were conducted July 25, 2015 in Ocala, Florida.
    Arrangements were under the direction of Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home in Ocala, Florida.
