Robert Lee Mays, 88

    Robert Lee Mays, age 88, of Sweet Lick Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2015, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington following a long illness.
    He was born November 18, 1928 in Lee County and was the son of the late Ned and Rhoda Durbin Mays. He was retired from the oil fields and was a member of the Roadside Mission Church of God.
    Mr. Mays was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    He is survived by his wife, Jeannette Combs Mays; three daughters: Daisy Darlene Andrews, Irvine; Lois Jean Hobbs (James), Ravenna; and Maggie McCormick (Danny), Stanton; three sons: Robert Lee Mays Jr. (Mary), Irvine; Warren Cleveland Mays (Malinda), Stanton; and Clyde Douglas Mays (Krystal), Winchester; 16 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and several great, great grandchildren.
    He was preceded by one daughter, Mavis White; two sons: Omer Lee Mays and Larry Kent Mays; three sisters: Minnie Morgan, Marie Hall, and Mavis Duncill; and four brothers: Jim, Jess, Leonard and Oscar Mays.
    Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 30th at the Roadside Mission Church of God by Bro. Henry Johnson. Burial was at the Combs Cemetery in Lee County. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Saturday, August 29th at the church.
    Pallbearers were Dewayne Andrews, Herbie Hobbs, Marlowe, Robert Mays, Larry Mays and Jason Mays.

Jane Lee McMaine Rose, 82

    Jane Lee McMaine Rose, 82, of Irvine, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. She was the widow of William Lincoln Rose, who passed away in 1996.
    Mrs. Rose was born on October 31, 1932 in Madison County, and was the daughter of Claude Newton McMaine and Zadie Bell Newman McMaine, both of whom preceded her in death. She had previously worked at Westinghouse Electric for 17 years as an accounting clerk.
    In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by: eight brothers, Kermit, Eugene, Elbert, Robert, Carl, Ralph, Thomas, and James Ray McMaine; two sisters, Celeste and Bertrice McMaine; and one sister-in-law, Bette Crawley McMaine.
    Survivors include two sons, Timothy Wayne Rose, of Estill County, and Anthony William Rose (Jennifer), of Dayton, Ohio; one granddaughter, Addison Elizabeth Rose; and one sister-in-law, Wendy Binns McMaine.
    Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 30th at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Jerome Frandle and Bill Denk. Burial followed at the Newman Cemetery in Estill County.
    Visitation was from 12:00 Noon until the time of service on Sunday, at the funeral home.

Earl Sparks, 89

    Earl Sparks, age 89, went into the presence of God, Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, Kentucky.
    He was a native of Estill County, born January 27, 1926, the son of the late Eli and Lillie West Sparks. He considered his greatest accomplishment in life as time served in the United States Army as a Combat Engineer, fighting in World War II. He worked the oil fields, construction work and operated Sparks Cash & Carry Grocery in Estill County. He spent many of his retired years alongside his best friend and sidekick, Johnny Todd at Todd’s Antique Mall.
    Survivors include his wife, Edith Neal Sparks; four daughters: Marilyn Williams (James), Audrey Sue Lewis (Paul), Ramona Earlene “Bones” Kane, and Karen Steinhauser (Dr. Richard); four brothers: Eli Sparks, Jr., Delbert Sparks, Phillip Sparks and Michael Sparks; three sisters: Hazel Noland, Lydia McKinney and Estine King; six grandchildren: Paul Bryan Lewis, Lee Ann Cole, Brad Hall, Jason Sparks, Elijah Sparks and Jessica Akers; seven great grandchildren: Eli & Everleigh Lewis, Kayla, Kara and Aubrey Cole, Braden Hall and Summer Akers.
    He was preceded in death by five brothers: O’dell Sparks, Donald Sparks, Raymond “Kay” Sparks, Raleigh Sparks and Randall Sparks; and one sister, Maxine Flynn.
    Home Going Celebration was conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 29th at the Victory World Outreach Center,2233 Lexington Road (U.S. 25), Richmond, with Rev. Philip Holman officiating. Burial will follow in Madison Memorial Gardens.
    Visitation was from 5-9 p.m., Friday, August 28th at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street, Richmond, and after 11 a.m., Saturday, at the church.
    Pallbearers were Paul Lewis, Paul Bryan Lewis, James Williams, Jimmy Noland, Brad Hall, Jason Sparks, Elijah Sparks and Johnny Todd.

Arnold Vollie Bunch, 69

    Arnold Vollie Bunch, age 69, of Old Fox Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, August 24, 2015, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital, following a long illness.
    He was born October 19, 1945 in Estill County and was the son of the late William H. and Mary Tipton Bunch. He was a retired Pepsi Cola employee and attended the Baptist Church. He had lived in Estill County all of his life.
    Mr. Bunch is survived by his wife, Faye Tuggle Bunch; one daughter, Kim Horn (Greg), Irvine; one brother, Roy Bunch, Estill County; two grandchildren: Paige Horn and Rachael Horn; eleven nieces and nephews; and 21 great nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Ralph Bunch.
    Funeral services were conducted Friday, August 28th at 2 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Beverly Arvin. Burial was at the Campbell Cemetery. Friends called after 12 Noon, Friday, at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Robert Tuggle, Scott Doyle, Allen Doyle, Brian Cox, Levi Kerby and Michael Barb.

Wilburn Leslie Ruble, 54

    Wilburn Leslie Ruble, age 54, of Kissey Branch in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, August 24, 2015, at Baptist Health Richmond following a sudden illness.
    He was born July 31, 1961 in Madison County and was the son of the late Rollie and Glenna Phillips Ruble. He was an employee of Dunn’s Body Shop and attended the Kingdom Hall. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Ruble is survived by two sons: Wilburn Dwayne Ruble and Joseph Ruble, both of Irvine; two sisters: Linda, Richmond, Indiana; and Patty, Indianapolis, Indiana; two brothers: Earl Parms, Richmond, Indiana; and Rickie Ruble, Irvine; and five grandchildren.
    Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 27th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home by Bro. Bill Daily. Friends called after 11 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home.

    Donna Sue Lee Edge of Irvine, Kentucky, age 51, wife of Donald Edge, passed away Monday, August 3, 2015.
    She was a native of Cartersville, Georgia, a daughter of Donald Lee and Vivian Sebastian. She enjoyed reading, fishing, camping, and most of all, her grandchildren.
    Survivors include her sons: Daniel and Anthony Edge; her daughter, Laura Fry; her mother and stepfather, Vivian & Mike Sebastian; her brothers: Douglas and Matthew Lee; and her grandchildren: Kobe, Kinley and Kami Fry.
    A memorial service is planned at a later date.

    Adair Wolfinbarger, age 68, of Goodwin Street in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, August 21, 2015, at Baptist Health Lexington following a sudden illness.
    He was born April 14, 1947 in Estill County and was the son of the late Edford Adair and Kayma Joy McIntosh Wolfinbarger. He was retired from Wolfinbarger Auto Parts and attended the Providence Baptist Church. He had lived in Estill County all of his life.
    Mr. Wolfinbarger is survived by his wife: Carol Joan Grafmiller Wolfinbarger; one daughter, Stephanie Wolfinbarger, Louisville; one sister: Mia Newman, Estill County; and three brothers: Eric Wolfinbarger, Duff Wolfinbarger, and Herburt Wolfinbarger, all of Estill County.
    Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 25th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Phillip Ronk. Burial was at the Oakdale Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Monday, August 24th at the funeral home.

Franklin Hall

    Franklin Cleveland Hall, age 76, of Frames Branch Road in Clay City, Kentucky, husband of Nellie Hall, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2015 at his residence with his family by his side.
    Born April 17, 1939 in Powell County, he was a contractor and a pastor for 34 years of the Church of God of Prophecy in Beattyville and Irvine.
    Mr. Hall is survived by his wife, Lillie “Nellie” Hall of Clay City; three sons: Franklin Hall Jr. (Tammy) of Stanton, David Earl Hall (Bobbie Roe) of Stanton, and Randall Townsend of Hazard; two daughters: Barbra Jean (Lon Wayne) of Clay City, and Teresa Ison (Phillip) of Stanton, 13 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; four brothers: Amery Hall of Clay City, Richard Hall (Connie) of Mt. Sterling, Rodney Hall and Scottie Hall, both of Clay City; and one sister: Helen Corey (Danny) of Jeffersonville.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorothy Hazel Goodwin Hall; one brother, John William Hall; and one sister, Maggie Elizabeth Fouch.
    Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 24th at the Grayson Funeral Home Chapel, 201 7th Avenue in Clay City, with Bro. Willie Gordon officiating. Friends visited 5 till 9 p.m., Sunday, August 23rd at the funeral home. Burial was in the Hall Cemetery in Clay City.

Doris Jean Walling, 83

    Doris Jean Walling, age 83, of Oak Street in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, August 17, 2015, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
    She was born November 28, 1931 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Robert and Mamie Lou Abney Tipton. She was a homemaker and a caretaker and had lived in Estill County all of her life.
    Ms. Walling is survived by one daughter, Shelia Spivey (Randy), Estill County; two grandchildren: Melissa Puckett (John) and Randy Spivey, Jr.; six great grandchildren: Natasha Sewell, Brittany Puckett, Hayley Puckett, Dylan Spivey, Hannah Spivey and Jarrett Spivey; one great, great grandchild, Isaiah Sewell; and a special best friend, Lillie Powell.
    She was preceded in death by her brother, Eugene Tipton.
    Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 20th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Jerry Chaney. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Wednesday, August 19th at the funeral home.
