Sheri Tina Henry

    Sheri Tina Henry, age 41, of Picnic Hill Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, November 20, 2015, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a long illness.
    She was born July 6, 1974 in Richmond, Kentucky, and was the daughter of Vadis Abney and the late Ova “Toad” Abney. She was an employee of the Good Samaritan Hospital and attended the Turning Point. She had lived in Estill County all of her life.
    Survivors in addition to her mother include her husband, Kenneth Wayne Henry; one daughter, Kayle Nicole Henry; one son, Christian Wayne Henry; two sisters: Teresa Tompkins, Berea; and Lisa Walters, McKee; and two brothers: Marvin Gabbard, McKee; and Ova Abney Jr., Estill County.
    She was preceded in death by four brothers: Bobby, Ricky, Bill and Scotty Abney.
    Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 24th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Larry McIntosh. Burial was at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Monday, November 23rd at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Robbie Abney, Linville Gray, Blake Dunaway, Bill Dooley, David Walters and Steve Howell.

Louise Grace Sparks Stamper Lester Cox, 85

    Louise Grace Sparks Stamper Lester Cox, age 85, of Lynn, Indiana; passed away Thursday, November 19, 2015, at the Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana, following a short illness.
    She was born January 3, 1929 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Leonard Sparks and Grace Emery Sparks Dawes (Frank Dawes, step-father). She was a retired employee of the Richmond, Indiana State Hospital and a member of the Baptist Church. She had lived in Fountain City, Indiana most of her life.
    Ms. Cox is survived by three daughters: Wanda Stamper, El Paso, Texas; June Jeffries, Fountain City, Indiana; and Christle Stamper Parker, Lynn, Indiana; two sons: Darrell Stamper, Williamsburg, Indiana; and Danny Stamper, Greensfork, Indiana; three sisters: Mildred Brinegar, Ann Tipton, and Sue Murphy, all of Estill County; one brother, Leon Dawes, Estill County; 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
    She was preceded in death by three husbands: Clarence “Red” Stamper, Wayne Lester and Perry Cox; one son, Roger Stamper; one sister, Loretta Witt; and two brothers: Kenneth and Jimmy Dawes.
    Funeral services were conducted at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, November 21st at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Larry Neal. Burial was at the Jackson Chapel Cemetery. Friends called after 11 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Andy Stamper, Joe Jeffries, Mike Freeman, Dustin Stamper, Mike Snowden, Kenny Charles and Jerry Stamper.

Zetta M. Hoover Gross Lamb, 89

    Zetta M. Hoover Gross Lamb, age 89, of Barnes Mountain Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2015, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.
    She was born May 26, 1926 in Estill County, a daughter of the late John William and Ida Keller Hoover. She was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church #2 and had lived in Estill County all of her life.
    In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lamb preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters; one son, Ronnie Gross (Drucilla); and one grandson Ronnie Carlo Gross.
    She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert Paul Lamb; three daughters: Donna Hurley (Russell), Phyllis Durbin (William) and Sue Powell (Ronnie), all of Irvine; one son: Gary Gross, Irvine; three grandsons: Roger Burns (Ellar), Andy Newton (Penny) and Shane Durbin (Melissa); four granddaughters: Deborah Callahan (Wayne), Rhonda Eckler, Michelle Hoover and Sherry Hoover; several great and great, great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a special niece, Christeen Jordan.
    Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 23rd at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Jerry Chaney. Burial was at the Gross Pointe Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Sunday, November 29th at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Calvin Conrad, Fred Webb, Ronald Osborne, Dean Arvin, Kevin Dean Tipton and Charley Tipton.
    Honorary pallbearers were Roger Burns, Andy Newton, Shane Durbin, Billy Durbin, Ronnie Powell, Russell Hurley and Wayne Callahan.

Lloyd Jackson Stone

    Lloyd Jackson Stone, age 85, of Cressy Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2015, at the Irvine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his loving family and caregivers.
    He was born April 7, 1930 in Estill County and was the son of the late Frank and Noomie Allen Stone. He was a farmer and a retired employee of Sara Lee. He was a member of the Ivory Hill Baptist Church (formerly a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Lexington). He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
    Mr. Stone is survived by his wife of 67 years, Bonnie Riddell Stone; one daughter, Judith Elaine Stone Marwil (David), Lexington; one sister, Helen McDonald, Dayton, Ohio; two brothers: Bonny Stone, Louisville; and James David Stone, Lexington; four grandchildren: Misha Elaine Stone Brown, Joseph Isaac Marwil, Isaac Stone Marwil and Robert Jacob Marwil; two great grandchildren: Tyler Jamie Brown (Sarah) and William James Brown; and three great, great grandchildren: Alexis Rae Brown, Spencer Aiden Brown and Ethan Tyler Brown.
    He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Lloyd Stone; one brother, Wayne Stone; and a grandson-in-law, Jamie Brown.
    Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 22nd at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Marvin Neal. Burial was at the Sally Poore Cemetery. Friends may call after 12 Noon, Sunday, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home.

James John Burns, 50

    James John Burns, age 50, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington.
    He was a roofer.
    He is survived by his mother, Glenda Burns of Irvine; his father, John Mabe (Mary), one son James Dishman (Kristen) of Kennedal, Texas; two brothers: Edward Mabe of Phoenix City, Arizona; and Mitchell Mabe of Hillham, Tennessee; four sisters: Frances Scott, Lisa Burns (Brian Bowman), both of Irvine, Tina Mabe and Elizabeth Shepard (Roy), both of Hillham, Tennessee; and five grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his dad, James Burns.
    The family has chosen cremation.

Herbert Lee Childers, 88

    Herbert Lee Childers, age 88, World War II Navy veteran of Stanton, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
    Born in Wolfe County, he was the son of the late William Hoy and Ollie Trent Childers, and he was a retired bull dozer operator. He was a member of Stanton Christian Church and a founding member of the Clay City Lions Club.
    In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wives, Nina Purrell Childers and Betty Newkirk Childers; and by his brother, James Monroe Childers.
    Mr. Childers is survived by his daughter, Lana Childers Clark of Port Orange, Florida; two grandsons: Michael Malone of Ames, Iowa; and Shawn Clark of Orlando, Florida; four sisters: Marlene Meadows of Stanton, Lois Davis of Clay City, Avanell Hatton (Pierce) of North Middletown, and Patricia Ann Bellamy (Larry) of Irvine; and by his nephew, Rick Entwistle of Houston, Texas.
    Funeral services officiated by Pastor Chris Moon with eulogy by Gary Meadows were held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 18th at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton. Visitation began at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 17th at the funeral home. Burial with military honors was in Stanton Cemetery, Main Street, Stanton.
    Active pallbearers are Gary Meadows, Warren Meadows, Larry Bellamy, Ronnie Hall, Anthony Patrick and Rick Entwistle.
    Honorary pallbearers are Roger Stacy, Dwain and Nellie Anderson, Anita Hall, J. B. Crain and members of Stanton Christian Church.
    The family expresses their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of University of Kentucky Medical Center for the excellent care they provided for Herbert.

Donald Wayne Friend

    Donald Wayne Friend, age 67, husband of Carol Friend, passed away Friday, November 13, 2015 at his home.
    He was born April 12, 1948 in Estill County to the late Sidney and Cecelia Whisman Friend. He was a United States Army veteran.
    Survivors include his wife, Carol Friend; six brothers: Eugene Friend, Ronnie Friend, Paul David Friend, Tim Friend, Gary Friend, and Dwight "Ike" Friend; two sisters: Josephine Gross and Wavelene Sparks; a granddaughter, Megan Bellamy (Cody); special grandchildren, Hope Helton, Katherine Townsend, Chelsea Dunn, Kyler Dunn, McKayla Updike, Ryan Perish, and Rachel Abrams; and special great grandchildren, Nevaeh and Brenton.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Donna Friend; and five brothers: Bobby Friend, Bill Friend, Sidney Friend Jr., Allen Friend, and Eddie Friend.
    Funeral services were held Monday, November 16th at 1:00 p.m. at Davis & Davis Funeral Home, Stanton by Rev. Wilford Helton. Visitation was held on Sunday, November 15th after 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial was in the Friend Cemetery with military honors.

Delmas Leon Tipton

    Delmas Leon Tipton, age 82, of Wiseman Crossing in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, November 13, 2015 at the Marcum and Wallace Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
    He was born January 19, 1933, in Estill County, a son of the late Warren and Alene Hamilton Tipton. He retired from Bundy Tubing and was a farmer. He was a member of the White Oak Church of God and had lived in Estill County all of his life. He was a Kentucky Colonel.
    Mr. Tipton was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Mae Wiseman Tipton.
    He is survived by a son, Steven Tipton, Estill County; four sisters: Loretta Crowe, Estill County; Thelma Frymear, Midway; Connie Melear, Harrodsburg; and Sue Hazelwood, Owensboro; two brothers: Burnell Tipton, North Carolina; and Ronnie Tipton, Estill County; two grandchildren: Joseph Tipton and Jeffery Tipton; and one great grandchild, Sylas Tipton.
    In addition to his wife, he is also preceded in death by three siblings: Ruth Moreland, James Tipton, and Gary Tipton.
    Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 16th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Glyndon Woosley with burial following at the Wiseman Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m. on Sunday night, November 15th at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Steve Tipton, Joe Tipton, Jeff Tipton, Kenny Tuttle, Raymond Conrad, Jim Ballou and Kenneth Puckett.

John Raymond Shelton, 76

    John Raymond Shelton, age 76, of Misty Hollow Road, in Irvine passed away Monday, November 9, 2015 at his home following a long illness.
    He was born May 21, 1939, in Van Buren, Missouri, a son of the late Archibald and Helen Givens Shelton. Mr. Shelton was a track worker with the Southern Railroad and had lived in Estill County for the past 15 years. He was a veteran with the United States Army.
    Mr. Shelton is survived by his wife, Jane Elnora Condon Shelton; two daughters: Kimberly Wyman and Glenora Shelton, both of Michigan; one son, Robert Lee Shelton, Tennessee; two sisters: Patsy Schnider and Gloria Jean Mason, both of Michigan; one brother, Robert Shelton, Utah; several grandchildren and several great grandchildren; and a very special granddaughter, Jade Lynn Wyman.
    He was preceded in death by three sons: Ord William Shelton, Edward Albert Shelton, and Richard Dale Shelton; and two brothers: Tommy Shelton and Howard Shelton.
    Memorial services were held at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

James D. Peterson, 56

    James D. Peterson, age 56, of Bull Valley, Illinois passed away Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Journey Care Hospice, Woodstock, Illinois.
    He was born February 26, 1959 in LaGrange, Illinois, the son of the late Donald and Nellie (Coomer) Peterson. He had lived in Berwyn, Illinois and Lemont, Illinois before settling in Bull Valley ten years ago. Jim proudly served in the United States Navy Seabees and had many interests and hobbies including collecting antiques and guns, shooting, being a range master, cooking and baking (bread), hiking and climbing (including Mt. Everest), motorcycles especially Harley Davidson, John Wayne and other western movies, playing softball and guitar, and he loved dogs, especially Boxers. During his time in college, Jim was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and he was an avid Green Bay Packers football and University of Kentucky basketball fan as well as a certified SCUBA diver. Jim completed his Master’s degree in Computer Sciences specializing in Systems and Network Security.
    Survivors include his children, Meaghan Peterson of Chicago; and Sean Peterson of Lakewood, Illinois; his brother, Jeff Peterson (Jennifer Boyer) of Ingleside, Illinois; a niece, Nicole, and nephew, Michael.
    A memorial service with military honors was conducted Saturday, November 14th at 1:00 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home. Friends called after 12 Noon until service time, Saturday, at the funeral home.
