Ernest Snowden, 91

Ernest Snowden

    Ernest Snowden, age 91, widower of Elsie Townsend Snowden, of Lofty Heights Road, Clay City, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Thompson-Hood Veterans Center, Wilmore, Kentucky.
    Born in Clay City, Kentucky, on August 28, 1924, he was the son of the late Bryan Snowden and the late Fannie Tipton Snowden. Corporal Ernest Snowden was a World War II Marine Corps Pacific Theatre veteran and survivor of the Battle of Guadalcanal where he was wounded twice and the Battle of Peleliu where he was also wounded twice. He was a member of Marine Corps League PFC Harold G. Epperson Det. 1113, Disabled American Veterans Powell County Post No. 103, AMVETS of Kentucky Clay City Post 67, American Legion Post 305 Military Honor Guard and he was a licensed short wave radio operator. Ernest Snowden was a retired line foreman with Clark RECC and a member of Powell's Valley Baptist Church.
    He is survived by one daughter, Bonita Snowden Tito (Thierry) of Clay City; a brother, Rodney Snowden of Irvine; and a sister, Ava Nell Barnett of Clay City.
    In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Preston Snowden, Leber Snowden and Franklin Snowden Sr.; and by two sisters: Lella Bell Berry and Letha Mae Sexton.
    Funeral services officiated by Bro. Marion Brewer and Bro. Gary Willoughby will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 25th at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton. Visitation begins at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 24th at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in Powell's Valley Cemetery alongside his wife.
    Active pallbearers will be Danny Barnett, Mark Barnett, Zack Barnett, Morris Barnett, Ricky Berry, Franklin Snowden Jr., Shannon Snowden and Wesley Sexton.
    Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Pearson, Ed Burtner, Larry Meadows, Ray Warford, Delbert Clemons and Cebert Gilbert Jr.

William Leon Wood

    William Leon Wood, age 92, of Irvine Road in Winchester, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2016, at his home.
    He was born February 27, 1924 in Estill County and was the son of the late Oliver and Sissy Stone Wood. He was a farmer, mechanic and former owner of Woods Repair Shop. He served in the United States Navy in World War II and was a member of the Ruckerville Church of Christ. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Rice Wood; and is survived by three daughters: Janet Kiser (James), Estill County; Wilma Baker and Wanda Bell, both of Lexington; 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by four brothers: Oliver Wood Jr., Moss Wood, Ocie B. Wood and Elsie Wood; and one grandchild, Danny Yates.
    Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 26th at 1 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call between 6 and 9 p.m., Wednesday, May 25th at the funeral home.

Florence Covey, 90

    Florence Covey, 90, widow of Almassa Covey, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2016, at her home.
    She was a native of Estill County, born October 13, 1925, a daughter of the late Coleman and Lucy Mae Griffin Gray. She was a retired employee of Carhartt, and a member of Turning Point Apostolic Church. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and painting.
    Mrs. Covey was preceded in death by her sons: Leon and Pete Covey; her brothers: Mitchel, Samuel, Clifton, Coleman Jr., Lola, Albert, Alvin and Glenn Gray; and her sisters: Catherine and Wanda Gray.
    Survivors include her sons: Al Covey (Wilma), Coleman Covey, and Gary Covey (Stella); her daughters: Diana Frymyer, Sherry Covey, Pam Brandenburg, Leatha Berger (James), Carolyn Covey, and Mickey Embs; her brother, Daniel Gray (Betty); her sister, Wilma Herman; 23 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; and nine great, great grandchildren.
    Services were held Tuesday, May 24th at 2:00 p.m. at Turning Point Apostolic Church with Pastors Larry McIntosh and Roscoe Conley officiating. Burial followed in the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called anytime after 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, at the church until service time.
    Pallbearers were Jeremy Brandenburg, Gary Covey Jr., Dwayne Covey, Shawn Embs, Tyler Sparks, and Abram Foust.
    Honorary pallbearers were Jason Riegel, James Berger, Richard Embs, Jonathan Covey, Clay Hatton and Russell McIntosh.

Dwight Rison

    Dwight Rison, age 68, of 3rd Street in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Monday, May 16, 2016, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a short illness.
    He was born August 2, 1947 in Franklin County and was the son of the late Earl and Rachel Embry Rison. He was retired from Carhartt, Inc. where he had worked for 41 years and was a former member of the National Guard. He was a member of the Millers Creek Church of God and the Fitchburg Masonic Lodge.
    Mr. Rison is survived by his wife, Mary Stella Horn Rison; one son, Stephen Dwight Rison, Estill County; five sisters: Louise Rogers (Carl), Louisville; Elizabeth Fielder, Ohio; Barbara Sue Albritton, Florida; Blanche Miller and Ida Mae Ashcraft, both of Estill County; one brother, Clarence Rison (Shelia), Estill County; a sister-in-law, Barbara Rison; a special sister-in-law, Eva Lou McIntosh; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by one sister, Katherine Cornelius and two brothers: Johnny and Tracy Rison.
    Funeral services were conducted Thursday, May 19, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Merle Travis. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Wednesday, May 18th at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Corey Thomas, Trent Sparks, Darren Rison, Tony Miller, Terry Horn and Donald Paul McIntosh.

Troy Eugene Byrd

    Troy Eugene Byrd, age 38, husband of Amanda Wiser Byrd, passed away at his home on Sunday, May 15th, 2016 after a short illness.
    He was born October 7, 1977, the son of Troy and Gracie Miller Byrd. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and working on cars.
    Mr. Byrd is survived by his wife, Amanda Wiser Byrd; his parents, Troy and Gracie Miller Byrd; his sons, Terry Byrd and Joshua Byrd; his daughters, Makalaya Stogsdil, Mercedes Byrd, and Donna Byrd; his sisters, Vanessa Renee Cushman and Jennifer Lynn Feltner; and several special nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held on Friday, May 20th at 1 p.m. at the Lewis Funeral Home with Brother Bob Casey officiating. Burial followed at the Abner Cemetery. Friends called anytime after 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 19th, at the funeral home.

Daniel Robert Birchfield

    Daniel Robert Birchfield, age 72, husband of Deloris Birchfield, passed away May 13, 2016.
    Born in Richmond March 22, 1944, he was the son of the late Gardner Birchfield Jr. and the late Minnie McIntosh Traylor. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and the First Baptist Church of Irvine and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
    Mr. Birchfield was preceded in death by both of his parents and a brother, David Birchfield.
    He is survived by his sister, Donna Birchfield Cox; his children: Trency Jones (Jeff), Ramee Birchfield, Melissa Malicote, Ryan Birchfield (Tammy); stepchildren: Josh and Amber Fore Birchfield; nine grandchildren: R.B. Browning, Logan Browning, Samantha Jones, Shevi Jones, Chayce Birchfield, Jaggar Malicote, Michael Taylor, Riley Birchfield and Leslie Owens; nine great granchildren; six nieces and nephews; and ex-wife, Linda Williams Grens.

James Paul Parsons, 82

Paul Parsons

    James Paul Parsons, age 82, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016, at his home.
    He was born in West Irvine on September 27, 1933, the son of the late James and Lula Warford Parsons. Paul loved his Estill County home and often referred to it as the “garden spot of the world.” He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and on March 21, 1953, he united in marriage to Dorothy Marshall and made Madison County his home. She preceded him in death in 2008 after 55 years of marriage.
    Paul was a deacon at the Peytontown Baptist Church where he served as treasurer, clerk and song leader for over 50 years. He also served as treasurer of the Tates Creek Baptist Association for many years. He was active in establishing the Madison County Rescue Squad and supported its endeavors. He was a 40-plus-year member of Richmond Lodge #25 A&FM where he was Past Master and former treasurer. He held various offices in the York Rite Bodies including Past High Priest of Chapter #16, Past Illustrious Master of Council #71 and Past Commander of Commandary #19. He was also a member of the Richmond Masonic Temple Co. Board of Directors.
    Paul was a former employee of Muncy Furniture and James Anderson & Son. He was a licensed insurance agent for Life of Georgia Insurance for many years. In 1979, he joined in establishing the present Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, fulfilling a childhood dream of becoming a funeral director. He became a licensed funeral director in 1983 and was still serving in that position. His dedication to the families he served will truly be missed.
    Survivors include one daughter, Lula Gail Parsons Kinder of Richmond; two grandchildren, Ashley Kinder Randolph (Ryan), of Lexington; and James Ryan Kinder (Whitney), of Oregon; great grandchildren: Peyton Randolph, Laney Kinder, Ellie Kinder, Will Disselkamp and Micah Disselkamp; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by a twin sister, Pauline Parsons; a sister, Kathleen Duck; and three brothers, Beverly Parsons, Marvin Parsons and Marcum Parsons.
    Funeral Services were conducted at 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 20th at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street, Richmond, with Rev. James Robert Shelton, Rev. Jonathon Tussey and Rev. Bill Fort officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation was from 2 – 8 p.m., Thursday, May 19th at the funeral home with Masonic Rites conducted at 8 p.m.
    Pallbearers were James Ryan Kinder, Ryan Randolph, Johnny Marshall, Clay Tussey, Mitchell Smith and Preston Seals.
    Paul’s extended family, the associates of Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, will serve as honorary pallbearers.

    Travis Lee Gordon, age 77, widower of Bobbie Ruth Isaacs Gordon, passed away Friday, May 13, 2016, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, after a short illness.
    He was a native of Estill County, born January 21, 1939, a son of the late James Herman Gordon and the late Mamie Centers Gordon. He was a retired employee of Bundy Tubing where he served as vice-president of the UAW. He was a member of the Ravenna Church of God, a member of F&AM Stafford Lodge, and a former Irvine City Councilman. Mr. Gordon was a musician, playing the mandolin. He had a radio show on WIRV for twenty years. He enjoyed bird watching, travelling, and growing tomatoes.
    He was preceded in death by a sister, Doretta Barnes.
    Survivors include his daughters: Phyllis York (Tom), Lisa Byerly (Kevin), and Teresa Whitehouse (Jeff); his brothers: Willie Hargus Gordon and Doug Gordon; his sisters: Dessie Isaacs, Barbara Dennis, and Carol Culp; his grandchildren: Felicia Flanagan, Samantha Maritch, James Martin York, Christian Snodgrass, Heather Snodgrass, Heather Byerly, Jesse Byerly, Ashley Whitehouse, Megan Whitehouse; seven great grandhchildren; and a host of friends.

Arthur Warmouth

    Arthur Warmouth, age 77, passed away May 13, 2016. He was born to the late Sidney and Ruby Warmouth on December 25, 1938 in Kentucky.
    Arthur was a veteran in the United States Army Reserve and was a member of Local 1410 Laborer Union for over 50 years. He was married to the love of his life, Marie Warmouth for 47 years.
    He leaves behind his two daughters: Tresa Clark (Clay) and Karla Bowman; five grandchildren: Jennifer, Kourtney, Angie, Sidney, and Michelle; and great granddaughter, Kaylie.
    Visitation was held at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio, on Tuesday, May 17th from 5-8 p.m. with a funeral service following at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 18th at 10 a.m. Burial was at Byron Cemetery.

    Lesetta Harrison Powell, age 92, of Grafton, Ohio, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2016 at Burbank Parke Care Center in Burbank, Ohio
    She was born on April 27, 1923, in Irvine, Kentucky, the daughter of Vernon and Rebecca Rawlings Harrison, and had been a resident of Grafton since 1941. She worked as an inspector for Champion International for 19 years, retiring in 1955. She was a member of Christian Unity Church in North Eaton. Lesetta enjoyed making crafts, walking, bowling and gospel singing.
    Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Lee Healy (Thomas) of Grafton; her son, William Powell (Mary Jane) of Lodi; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; and a sister, Ruby Hunt.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Buford; sons, Thomas and Jerry Powell; five sisters and seven brothers; and her parents, Vernon and Rebecca Harrison.
    Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 16th at the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville, Ohio, where family received friends on Friday, April 15th from 5-8 p.m. Rev. Neal Brock officiated. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted.

    Vernetta Jane Abner Farthing, 83 years young, died Wednesday, May 11, 2016.
    She was born October 1, 1932 in Estill County but spent the last seven years of her life in Catawba County, North Carolina.
    The following preceded her in death: her mother, Ethel Mae Powell Abner Robinson; her father, Aaron Abner Sr.; her husband of 49 years, Fred D Farthing; her brother, Aaron Abner Jr.; her daughter, Rhonda; her son, Teddy; three grandchildren: Sammy, Keith, and Bubby; and one great-grandson, Cody.
    She was survived by: two sisters: Mable Willis and Betty Reed; one sister-in-law, Irma Jean Abner; one aunt, Iva Jean Powell; five children: Carolyn & James Rhoton of Claremont, North Carolina; Judy Spicer of Frenchburg; Freddie Farthing of Booneville, Bobby & Jackie Farthing of Claremont, North Carolina; and Anita & Eddie “Bo” Wallace of Richmond; 18 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, six great, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and sisters- and brothers-in-the-lord.

    He was born December 10, 1958 in Estill County to the late Jim Blythe and Mary Betty "Tiny" Jones.
    Survivors include his wife, Wanda Blythe, Stanton; his mother, Betty "Tiny" Jones, Stanton; two sons, David Ritchie (Sandy), Hillsboro and Kevin Ritchie (Sarah), Lexington; a daughter, Kathie Ritchie Allen (Kenneth), Independence; two brothers: Jimmy McIntosh (Bonnie), Stanton, and Gerald Irving (Wanda); three sisters, Judy Martin (James), Richmond; Janice Bates, Winchester; and Jennifer Bolin (Sammy), Bowen; a half brother, Thomas Jones, Mt. Sterling; a half sister, Patricia Maze, Stanton; grandchildren: Carter Ritchie, Isaac Ritchie, and Sofia Allen; an uncle, Bill Blythe; two aunts, Eva Richardson (Vernon), Hamilton, Ohio; and Alma Caldwell, Jeffersonville; and special nieces: Mary Maze, Mel Mays, and Caroline Jones.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Blythe.
    Services were held Saturday, May 14th at 1:00 p.m. at Davis & Davis Funeral Home in Stanton, by Rev. Kenny Wasson. Visitation was Friday, May 13th, 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial was in Nolan Cemetery with Johnny Tackett, David Ritchie, Kevin Ritchie, Kenneth Allen, Bill Ginn, and Gary Richardson serving as pallbearers.

    Roger Dale Goosey, age 59, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Stanton Nursing Center after a long illness.
    Born May 18, 1956 in Madison County, he was preceded in death by his parents, Rosebert and Edith Powell Goosey; and a sister, Judy Henry.
    He is survived by his son, Matthew Goosey (Brittany); a daughter, Leslie Carol Goosey; a brother, Paul Goosey (Marilyn); a sister, Virginia Rose (Joseph); two grandsons: Clarence Walker and James Goosey; nephews: Anthony Rose (Laneve), Barry Rose, Bobby Willis (Charolette); nieces: Loretta Watson (Junior), Olivia Knuckles (Jeff), Sara Goosey (Pavel), and Jennifer Durbin (Dwight); and many great nieces and nephews who loved him very much.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 12th at the Lewis Funeral home with Brother Jason Brooks officiating. Burial followed at the Kindred Cemetery. Friends called from noon until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.

    Lemon Estes Jr. “JR”, age 67, of Winchester, Kentucky, husband for 44 years to Wilma Jean Spicer Estes, passed away after battling cancer on Monday, May 9, 2016, at their home.
    He was born in Irvine, Kentucky, January 19, 1949, to the late Lemon and Callie Horn Estes. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and he retired after 16 years from Clark County Implement Company (John Deere).
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, RéJeana Craft (Bobby) of Cynthiana, a son, Joseph Estes (Misty) of Winchester, a daughter, Callie Jo Smith (Doug) of Winchester; five grandchildren: Hunter Smith, Jake Smith, Hali Ward and Hunter Miller of Winchester; and Josh Estes of Mt. Sterling; brothers, Bobby Estes and Paul Estes, both of Winchester; sisters: Anna Walters, Lula Sewell, Carrie Sewell (Donald), and Emma Dennis (Douglas) all of Irvine; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Walters; and a brother, Charles Estes.
    Funeral services were Friday, May 13th at 11a.m. at the Providence Pentecostal Church, 7076 Old Boonesboro Rd, by Bro. Joey McClease. Visitation was Thursday, May 12, from 5p-8p at the church. Burial was in the Boonesboro Cemetery.

    Patrick Joseph Reynolds, age 61, of Broadway in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2016, at his home following a long illness.
    He was born May 21, 1954 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, and was the son of the late Charles K. and Clara Farrell Reynolds. He was a retired Sergeant with the United States Army and a former employee of the Bluegrass Station Army Depot. He was a member of the American Legion.
    Mr. Reynolds is survived by his wife, Melissa Kay Hobbs Reynolds; three sisters: Mary Ruth, Etta and Barbie; and two brothers: Buddy and Mike.
    He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia; and three brothers: Tom, Charlie and Fred.
