Janet Carol Smith Roberts, 68

    Janet Carol Smith Roberts, wife of Russell Roberts of Irvine, Kentucky and the daughter of the late Elmo and Martha Stepp Smith was born on May 8, 1948 and departed this life at her home in Irvine, Kentucky on June 12, 2016 at the age of 68 years, 1 month, and 4 days. She loved the Lord and her family and was a member and assistant pastor of Mt. Olive Pentecostal Church.
    In addition to her husband, Russell, Janet is survived by three children, Beth Roberts Barnes (Bobby) of Irvine; Russell Lee Robert, Jr. (Tilda) of Booneville; and Gary Roberts of Irvine; five grandchildren: Katlyn and Bobby Barnes Jr., and Stephen, Jacob, and Joseph Roberts; eight brothers and sisters: Sue Baker, Ruby Dooley, Bonnie Dooley, Phyllis Oliver, Teresa Creech Lemaster, Michael Creech, Ronnie Smith, and Gary Smith; and a host of other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 14th, 6-8 p.m., and Newnam Funeral Home Chapel, 108 Center Street, Beattyville. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 15th at the funeral home with Pastor Brenda White officiating. Burial was in the Johnson Cemetery on Omega Road.

Richard Wayne Riddell, 62

    Richard Wayne Riddell, age 62, of Regis Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016, at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, following a short illness.
    He was born September 5, 1953, in Madison County, a son of the late William P. and Victoria Horn Riddell. He retired from CSX Railroad where he was a clerk and attended the Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp where he served in the Vietnam Era.
    Mr. Riddell is survived by four daughters: Stacy Davis (George), Florida; Kelly Williams (Brad), Russell, Jill Riddell, West Virginia; and Sunny Riddell, Lexington; one sister, Sylvia Joan Riddell, Estill County; two brothers: Billy O. Riddell and Sidney (Jack) Riddell, Estill County; three grandchildren: Jace Davis, Mason Davis, and Riley Williams; one nephew: B.J. Riddell (Rene); one great nephew: Luke Riddell; one great niece: Harper Riddell; and a very special friend, Gail Garrison.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, William Scott Riddell.
    Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 16th at 1 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Sherl Thomas. Friends may call after 11 a.m., Thursday, until service time at the funeral home.

Hamp Dunn

    Hamp Dunn, age 76, of Eaton, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at his residence.
    He was born July 16, 1939 in Madison County, Kentucky, to the late Jeff and Hester (Bryant) Dunn. He was a United States Army veteran and was a member of the Eaton Baptist Temple. He retired after many years of employment from the Holiday Inn, Richmond, Indiana; and he enjoyed traveling throughout his entire life.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Flora, Oscar, Hargis, Leonard, Myrtle, Lucy, Luther, Jeff, and Mary.
    Mr. Dunn is survived by his wife, Carolyn Dunn of Eaton; a son Brian Dunn of Eaton; three daughters: Joanna Ramey (Bill) of Eaton; Holly J. Dunn of Connersville, Indiana; and Rhonda Allen (Craig) of West Alexandria; grandchildren: Jordan Schilling (Tara), Jackie Ramey (Cody Pack), Joseph Ramey, David Allen (Megan Wilson), Ashley Newsome (Matt), and Beth Allen (Justin Brock); great grandchildren: Kylie Pack and Brooklyn Pack; siblings James Dunn, Robert Dunn (Bernice), both of Richmond, Indiana; and Hazel Horn of Florence, Kentucky; and several special nieces, nephews and friends.
    Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11th at the Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, 226 West Main Street, Eaton, Ohio, with Rev. Lowell Spencer officiating. Burial was in Monroe Twp. Cemetery, Eldorado, Ohio. Visitation was held on Friday, June 10th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Thomas Dewayne Raider, age 58, of Glory Street in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016. at the Marcum and Wallace Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness.
    He was born January 2, 1957, in Estill County, a son of the late Tommy and Nancy Newton Raider. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Raider is survived by his wife, Linda Barnes Raider; three sons: Jeremy Allen Barnes, Thomas Dewayne Raider II and Eric Lee Raider, all of Irvine; five sisters: Tonya Hamm, Tammy Witt, Tracy Richardson, Teresa Cornett, all of Irvine; and Trina Rawlins, Covington; two brothers, Tim Raider and Terry Raider, both of Irvine; and three grandchildren.
    Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 10th at 1 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Terry Barnes with burial following in the Raider Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Thursday, June 9th at the funeral home.

Louise Pasley Ecton, 90

    Louise Pasley Ecton, age 90, widow of the late Audley B. Ecton, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Clark Regional Medical Center.
    She was born in Clark County at Kiddville on October 20, 1925, to the late Dewey and Beulah Everman Pasley. She was a graduate of Clark County School and received a bachelor's degree in education in 1950 from Eastern Kentucky University. Mrs. Ecton taught for many years in Clark County before becoming involved with her husband in business on East Broadway. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and loved animals.
    Survivors include four children, A.B. Ecton Jr., Barbara Walters (Larry), Jeannie Palmer (Lennie), and Gerald "Bill" Ecton (Diana); grandchildren, BreAnn Walters, Brandon Ecton (Laura), Brittany Clark (Hank), Amanda Ecton, Angie Walters, Travis Palmer, Monica Birch, and Steven Birch; nine great grandchildren; and several cousins.
    In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Arthur; grandsons, Cody Durbin and Brian Walters; brother, Ernest Pasley; and a niece, Linda Sue Case.
    Services were at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 10th at Scobee Funeral Home. Burial following in Winchester Cemetery. Visitation was Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Brandon Ecton, Hank Clark, James Koston, Brett Gillespie, Steven Birch and Ernest Wayne Pasley.

    B. Keith Nilhas, age 60, passed away on June 5, 2016 at University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
    He was born on May 3, 1956, in Springfield, Illinois, to the late Arthur A. and Frieda B. Schultz Nilhas. He worked at Paul Miller Ford, Cole Ford, Kenneth Reed Masonry and Scott’s Service Center. He was a member of Baptist Believe Church.
    Survivors include three brothers: Allen and Larry Nilhas of Estill County and Mike Nilhas of Clark County; three sisters: Katherine Nilhas of Winchester, Nancy Nilhas (Eddie Marcum) of Ravenna, and Sandra Reed (Kenneth) of Winchester; two nieces: Donna Finney (Danny) and Lori Woosley (Chris); five nephews: Ricky Nilhas, Douglas Nilhas, Jeffrey Nilhas, Brian Nilhas (Priscilla), and James Reed (Bethany Hall); great nieces: Rebecca Nilhas, Sarah Beth Reed, and Adrianna Babb; a great nephew, Dalton Finney; an aunt, Martha Pruitt; an uncle, Adam Schultz; and several cousins.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Earl Edward Nilhas; grandparents, John and Erna Schultz and George and Lillie Nilhas; and several aunts and uncles.

Kenneth Eugene Caldwell, Jr., 40

    Kenneth Eugene Caldwell, Jr., age 40, of South Winn Avenue in Irvine passed away Thursday, June 2, 2016, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness.
    He was born April 27, 1976 in Estill County and was the son of Frances Mae Rose Caldwell and the late Kenneth Eugene Caldwell. He attended the Church of God in London and had lived in Estill County all of his life.
    Survivors, in addition to his mother, include one sister, Cathy Isaacs, Madison County; three nephews: Dwight Durbin, Carter Durbin and Mason Durbin; and two nieces: Jennifer Durbin and Addison Beard.
    He was preceded in death by one sister, Sharon Durbin.
    Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 4 at 1:00 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Jason Brooks. Burial was at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends called after 11 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.

LJ "John" Baber

    LJ "John" Baber, of Morehead, Kentucky, age 86, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday May 30, 2016.
    He was born on January 17, 1930 in Irvine, Kentucky, to his late parents, William "Bill" F and Cora Wise Baber. John joined the Army in 1949 completing his basic training in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, prior to joining the 11th Airborne Recon Company in Ft Benning, Georgia,. in October, 1950. He successfully completed 23 parachute jumps before an honorable discharge in 1952.
    John retired from the Kentucky State Government serving 38 years with the Department of Social Services Division of Child Welfare. He belonged to the Tenure Club and among other recognitions received his 35-year service pin in 1993 before retiring in January 1995. After retirement, he enjoyed gardening, his John Deere riding mower and crafting with wood.
    Survivors include his loving wife, June Rawlins Baber; and children: Mark Baber (Linda) Savage, Minnesota; Connie Baber Tackett (Jerry), Knoxville, Tennessee; and granddaughter, Dr. Megan Tackett, Gallatin, Tennessee.; brothers: Alonza "Bud" Baber (Kathleen), Pensacola, Florida; and Bill Baber, Irvine; a sister: Evalou B. Dawes (Robert), Louisville; and several neices and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by a sister, Beulah; and infant brother, Jesse.
    Services were held on Thursday, June 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with Dr. Michael Anderson officiating. Burial followed in the Caudill Cemetery on Sharkey Road with full Military Honors by Corbie Ellington American Legion Post 126. Visitation was at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 1st at the funeral home.
    Serving as pallbearers were the Corbie Ellington American Legion Post 126 Honor Guard.
    Honorary Pallbearers were Bill Baber and Jeffery Terry.
    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Helping Hands; c/o Wanda Fultz of Morehead and "STAR" Saving the Animals of Rowan County, Morehead, Kentucky.
    The family extends a special thanks to the St. Claire Hospice Team; Dr John Hunter Black, Belinda Ashley RN, Loval Lewis RN, and Rhonda Lewis CNA who provided heartfelt comfort and assistance during John's brief illness.

Jason Scott Conner

    Jason Scott Conner, age 34, of Seas Branch Road, Morehead, passed away Monday, May 30, 2016, at his residence.
    He was born October 20, 1981, in Clark County, a son of Willie J. Conner of Irvine and Mary Ann Thomas of Morehead.
    Other survivors include his stepmother, Berta Conner of Irvine; stepfather, Jeff Noble of Morehead; three brothers, Michael Steven Rose of Morehead, Doyle Conner and Willie J. "Jay" Conner, Jr., both of Estill County; one sister, Crystal Dawn Conner of Knoxville, TN; five nieces and nephews, Destiny Conner, Montana, Makayla, and Hunter Butler, and Logan Parsons; extended family; and friends.
    Jason was a construction worker who thoroughly enjoyed his work, dirt biking and horseback riding. He is greatly missed by all who knew him.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel in Morehead with Brother Don Rivers officiating. Burial followed in Salem Cemetery in Estill County. Visitation began at 11 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home.

    Doug Worrell, age 85, widower of Edith Gordon Worrell, passed away Monday, May 30, 2016, at the Madison Heath and Rehab Center in Richmond, Kentucky.
    He was a native of Estill County, a son of the late Alex and Minnie Taylor Worrell. He was a member of the Estill County Fair Board and a member of Rice Station Christian Church. He was a retired farmer and enjoyed fishing.
    Mr. Worrell was preceded in death by his daughter, Shelia Henry; his brothers: Thaddues, Charlie, Stanley, Claude, Johnny, Francis, Allen, and Douglas; and his sisters: Grace Winkler, Naomi Routenburg, Spicy Witt, and Christine Reed.
    Survivors include his daughter, Joyce Puckett (Larry); his son, Phillip Worrell (Teresa); his brothers: Harold Worrell and Kenton "Sonny" Worrell; his sister, Virginia Henderson; seven grandchildren: Larry Puckett III, Stacey Worrell, April Easter, Jamie Puckett, Billy Henry, Teressa Reeves, and Kim Henry; ten great-grandchildren; and a special caregiver, Michelle Jenkins.
    Services were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 4th at Lewis Funeral Home, with Pastor Darrell Estes officiating. Burial followed in the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called anytime after 6:00 p.m., Friday, June 3rd at the funeral home.

No Changes In Estill Election Totals

    A recount of Estill County votes on Thursday, May 26th, for U.S. President on the democrat slate produced no changes. The camp of Bernard "Bernie" Sanders had requested a statewide recount in Kentucky because of the close numbers. Hillary Clinton won Kentucky over Sanders by a margin of 212,319 to 210,505 votes which was close to the same percentage which she won Estill County, 446 to 440 (45.65% of the vote to Sanders' 45.04%).
