Harvey Delois Greenwood Jr., 61

    Harvey Delois Greenwood Jr., age 61, of Opossum Run Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, July 1, 2016, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, following a sudden illness.
    He was born August 8, 1954, in New Jersey, the son of the late Harvey Delois and Osie Lee Stamper Greenwood. He was a quality inspector with Advanced Green Components and had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Greenwood is survived by two sons: Cecil Delois Greenwood (Jennifer Carol), Madison County; and Joseph Lee Greenwood (Frances Annette), Estill County; one stepsister, Crystal Combs, Hazard; a half brother: Dallas Gilbert Greenwood, Hazard; and three grandchildren: Carlie Breann Greenwood, Dilan Chase Delois Greenwood and Sarah Elizabeth Greenwood.
    He was preceded in death by several sisters.
    Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, July 5th at 11 a.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Terry Barnes and Bro. Bobby Hale with burial following in the Beatty Place Cemetery, New Yellow Rock Road, Beattyville. Friends may call between 6 and 8 p.m., Monday, July 4th at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers will be Cecil Greenwood, Joseph Greenwood, Aaron Tipton, Clifton Estes, Trinity Storm McIntosh and Kevin Garris.

Waneetta Lynam Newman, 92

    Waneetta Lynam Newman, 92, widow of Odis Newman, passed away Friday, July 1, 2016 at Marcum and Wallace Hospital in Irvine, Kentucky.
    Mrs. Newman was a native of Scott County, born September 2, 1923, a daughter of the late John Lewis and Maude Ellen Games Lynham. She was a retired employee of Kentucky Textiles in Paris.
    In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Donald Newman; and her sisters, Ethel Lynham and Lillie Mae Lynham.
    Survivors include her half-sister, Henrietta Wainscott (Corinth, KY); her half-brother, William “Bill” Games (North Carolina); two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special caregivers, Ray and Marie Dixon.
    Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 4th at Lewis Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Double Oak Cemetery. Friends may call anytime after 6:00 pm Sunday.

Wayne Patrick

    Wayne Patrick, age 86, passed away June 29, 2016 at Sayre Christian Village in Lexington.
    Born December 22, 1929, in Estill County, he was the son of the late William and Emma Tuttle Patrick. Wayne Patrick was a United States Army veteran and a former automobile dealer of Patrick Bros. Used Cars.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Atchison Patrick; two brothers: Bascum Patrick and John Thomas Patrick; and by two sisters:Elsie Mattingly and Mildred Shrout.
    He is survived by his son, Bill W. Patrick (Tina); his daughter, Connie Hall; two grandchildren: Jincy Thorpe and Jake Patrick; and by one great grandchild, Janson McIntosh, all of Lexington.
    Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 1st at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue in Stanton. Visitation begins at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, June 30th at the funeral home. Interment will be in Clay City-Eaton Cemetery with Larry Bowling, Gary Smith, Mike Scott, Matt Scott, Darren Patrick and Hobert Hoskins serving as pallbearers.

Bernice Walters Hall, 84

    Bernice Walters Hall, age 84, widow of James Arthur Hall, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the Marcum-Wallace Hospital in Irvine, Kentucky.
    She was native of Estill County, born July 24, 1931, a daughter of the late Beverly "Cutter Walters and Edna Tipton Walters. Mrs. Hall was a homemaker, and a former employee of Carhart. She enjoyed quilting, and working in her flower garden. She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church.
    Mrs. Hall was preceded in death by her husband, James, and her sisters, Helen Ruth Walters and Bonnie Henry.
    Survivors include her daughters: Sherrel Kay Hall Bledsoe (William), and Janice Hall Embs (Gary); her son, Beverly Allen Hall (Barbara); her sisters: Blanche Griffin (Gary), Laverne Riddell (Gene), and Ladene Foster (Jerry); her brothers: David Walters (Louise), Glen Walters (Louise), James Walters (Loretta), Damon Walters (Sherlyn), and Billy Walters (Janet); her grandchildren: Brad Hall (Amanda), Leeann Cole (Wayne), William A. Bledsoe, Brent Bledsoe (Kristy), Chance Hall, Parker Hall, and Whitney Embs; her great grandchildren: Emma Bledsoe, Josh Bledsoe, and Kaitlyn Bledsoe, Kayla Cole, Aubrey Cole, Kara Cole and Braden Hall; several nieces and nephews also survive.
    Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 1st at Lewis Funeral Home with Bro. Scott Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call after 6:00 p.m., Thursday, June 30th at the funearl home.

James Drexell McIntosh, 79

    James Drexell McIntosh, age 79, passed away Tuesday, June 28th, 2016 at the Stanton Nursing Center after a long illness.
    He was born November 14, 1937 in Montgomery County, the son of the late John Martin "Mart" and Chessie Shoemaker McIntosh. Mr. McIntosh was a lifelong car enthusiast and autobody specialist. He was a member of the Mountain Parkway Church of God.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughters, Teresa Meadows and Sondra Joanne Freeman; his brother, Junior Carl McIntosh; and four sisters: Violia Powell, Pauline McIntosh, Anna Mae McIntosh, and Faye McIntosh.
    Mr. McIntosh is survived by his wife, Margaret Miller McIntosh; his daughter, Colleen Crowe (Robert), Clay City; three brothers: Harold McIntosh (Lucy), Stanton;, Raymond McIntosh, Clay City; and Troy McIntosh, Winchester; three sisters: Gladys Simerly, Bristol, Tennessee; Marjorie Shortridge and Irene Rose, both of Winchester; grandchildren: Brandon Crowe (Tammie), Jerri Wireman, Stanton; Ginger Reed (Justin), Irvine;, and Savannah Jeffers (Dester), Mason, Ohio; and great grandchildren: Jackson Reed, Dester Jeffers IV, Wyatt Jeffers, Willow Wireman, and Brayden Crowe.
    Funeral services will be held at Mountain Parkway Church of God on Friday, July 1st at 3:00 p.m., with Pastor Dell Payne officiating. Friends may call anytime after 12:00 Noon on Friday at the church.

Raymond H. Carpenter

    Raymond H. Carpenter, age 84, husband of Marian Jones Carpenter, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, Kentucky.
    He was born on February 8, 1932, in Pontiac, Michigan, to the late Howard and Cecilia Butler Carpenter. He was retired from GE Mobile Communications and current president of M & R Resources, Inc. He was a member of Christ Church of Winchester where he was well known for organizing the "Big Breakfast" on Sunday mornings. He served as co-chairman of the building committee of Calvary Christian Church. He was a United States Army veteran and a Kentucky Colonel.
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Nancy Davis (Mark); a son, Craig Carpenter (Lynn); three step sons: Clayton Babb (Amanda), Colburn Babb (Misty) and Clint Babb; eleven grandchildren; one great grandchild; in-laws, Harry and Anita Jones; and brothers-in-law, Tim, Gary, Scott and Tom Jones.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William Carpenter; a sister, Dorothy Carpenter; and a brother-in-law, Dr. Terry Jones.
    Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, June 30th at Christ Church of Winchester, 1691 Ironworks Road. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 1st at Christ Church of Winchester by Pastor David Scalf, Dickie Everman and Gary Epperson. Burial will be in the Winchester Cemetery.
    Pallbearers will be Joe Davis, Scott Carpenter, Steven Carpenter, Clayton Babb, Colburn Babb and Clint Babb.

    James Paul Newman, age 68, of Leighton Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2016, at his home following a long illness.
    He was born March 5, 1948, in Lee County, a son of the late Claude and Mary Elizabeth Bailey Newman. He was a farmer and had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Newman is survived by three sisters: Helen Marie Martin, Madison County; Margie Ann Ramey and Martha Jane Horn, both of Estill County; and three brothers: Johnny Ray Newman, Estill County; Ronald Lee Newman, London; and Toledo Glenn Newman, Madison County.
    He was preceded in death by four siblings: Dorothy Cole, Fredia Vanderpool, Claude Newman Jr., and Ernest Gene Newman.
    Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, June 29th at 1 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Sparks Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Tuesday, June 28th at the funeral home.

    Marvin Ray Newton, son of Arthella Spencer Newton and the late Arvel Newton was born in Richmond, Indiana on June 6, 1957 and departed this life at his home in Beattyville, Kentucky on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the age of 59 years and 19 days.
    In addition to his mother, Marvin is survived by four children, Marlena Hoover and husband John of Berea, Kentucky, Marvin Sparks, Ashley Begley and husband Timmy, and McKenzee Newton; five grandchildren, Sydney and Aiden Sparks, Madison and Jaidyn Hoover, and Jada Newton; one great grandchild, Caydence Sparks; girlfriend, Sheila Taylor; two brothers, Kenneth Newton and Arvel Newton, Jr.; one sister, Jeanetta Newton; one half-sister, Melissa Moore; one half-brother, Jamie Newton, all of Beattyville, Kentucky; and a host of other relatives and friends.
    He is preceded in death by his father, two brothers, Bobby Joe and Melvin Newton; and one half-sister, Rosa Jane Newton.
    Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 28th, 6-8 p.m., at Newman Funeral Home Chapel, 108 Center Street in Beattyville. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 29th at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Beatty Place Cemetery, New Yellow Rock Road.

    He was born September 24, 1956, in Lexington, a son of the late Coletties and Elizabeth Horn Walton. He was a farmer and woodworker.
    Mr. Walton was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie Riddell Walton.
    He is survived by one sister: Roxand Walton, Irvine; one brother, Ricky Walton (Ramona), Irvine; two nieces: Elizabeth Walton and Buffy Lynn Walton; and one great nephew, Creed Herald.

    Caroline Sue Henry, age 78, of Owingsville, Kentucky, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016, at the Windsor Care Center in Mt. Sterling, following a long illness.
    She was born March 28, 1938, in Estill County, a daughter of the late John and Cora Wiseman Henry. She was a homemaker and had lived in Missouri most of her life.
    Ms. Henry is survived by two daughters: Dorothy March, Columbia; and Leana Robinson, Owingsville, one son, Nathan Woodard, Alabama; one sister, Linda Henry, Madison County; two brothers: Larry Henry and Ronnie Henry, both of Estill County; and three grandchildren.
    Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Harry LaViers Jr.

    Harry LaViers Jr., age 86 of Lexington, Kentucky; surrounded by his family, passed from this life peacefully on June 23, 2016 after a 12 year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
    Born August 26, 1929 in Paintsville, Kentucky to Harry LaViers II and Maxie Auxier LaViers, he was the inseparable husband of Sue (Purple) LaViers for 63 years.
    Harry Jr. was a graduate of the Paintsville Independent Elementary School. He attended and graduated high school from Culver Military 1946-1947 where he was in Artillery Battery B. He graduated from Princeton University in 1951 with a degree in mechanical engineering.
    Entering the United States Army, as a SGT, he worked connecting many independent residential telephone lines to multiple high powered radar-directed computer controlled anti-aircraft guns to create networks of protective circles in the airspace around Washington D.C. and other USA east coast cities.
    In 1954 Harry completed his tour of duty and he and Sue returned to Paintsville where he began working with his father at South East Coal Company
    In 1958, Harry expanded South East Coal Company, building several new mines in Letcher County, and built a coal cleaning plant in Irvine, Kentucky that created jobs in Eastern Kentucky. On completion in 1961 it was the largest coal preparation plant in the United States. In 1980 this preparation plant became the first fully computer controlled coal cleaning plant in the world, using custom software and IBM computers; winning recognition from the US Department of Energy.
    Harry Jr., like his father, was a firm believer in education. He was a member of the board of regents at Morehead State University, Berea College, Centre College, Culver Military Academy, and he was actively involved behind the scenes lobbying to improve education in Kentucky.
    Harry believed that knowledge was a shared gift to mankind, and stressed this at home and at work. If you asked Harry a question on any technical matter, you always got far more information than you expected. At South East Coal Company, Harry created a unique college scholarship program for the employees’ children. Eventually more than 180 students graduated from college by 1990 having been financed by these scholarships.
    Harry LaViers Jr. is survived by his wife, Barbara Sue Purple LaViers; his daughter, Beth LaViers Owen (Randal) of Lexington; three sons: Hank LaViers of Pompano Beach, Florida; Donald Gregory LaViers (Margaret), of Strawberry Plains, Tennessee; and Stephen Douglas LaViers (Shelia), of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
    Harry was blessed with six grandchildren: Joseph Owen, Kristen Owen Kusterer, Laura Owen, Amy LaViers Minnick, Lisa LaViers and William LaViers; plus five great grandchildren, all of whom he adored and loved spending time with.
    There was a visitation from 6-8 p.m., Monday, June 27th at Milward's Celebration Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
    Memorial Donations should be made to Morehead State University, your local public library, Hospice of the Bluegrass or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Connie Jo Hale

    Connie Jo Hale was born May 21, 1963 in Berea, Kentucky, and departed this life Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, being 53 years of age. She was the daughter of Laura McCowan and of the late Kenneth Boshers.
    In addition to her mother, Connie was survived by eight siblings: Roger Boshers (Donna) of Berea; Michael McCowan (Kendal), Lynn Peyman (Josh), both of Annville; James Richard McCowan (Robin), Cathy Lakes (Eugene), JoAnn Lunsford (Ronnie), Linda Bowman and Paula Boshers, all of McKee.
    She is also survived by her boyfriend, John Arvin, of Irvine.
    Connie was of the Baptist Faith.
    Funeral service was at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 25th at Lakes Funeral Home in McKee with Bro. Jason Thomas officiating. Burial followed in the John Doc Carpenter Cemetery.

Hazel Morton Hatton

    Hazel Morton Hatton, age 86, widow of Alfred Earl Hatton passed away June 20, 2016 at Fountain Circle Health and Rehabilitation Center, Winchester, Kentucky.
    Born October 3, 1929, in Powell County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late John T. Morton and the late Ella Morton. Hazel was a former seamstress at Curlee Clothing Factory and a member of Clay City Church of Christ.
    In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Phyllis Tucker; her son, Alfred Danny Hatton; one brother, Cecil Morton and by one sister, Lillian Morton.
    Mrs. Hatton is survived by two sons: Jerry Hatton of Jeffersonville and David Hatton (Connie) of Irvine; three daughters: Dorothy Sue Willoughby (Allen) of Winchester, Carolyn Henderson and Kathy Hatton, both of North Middletown; one brother, Charlie Morton of Dayton, Ohio; three sisters: Patricia McIntosh (Dwight) of Stanton, Mary Kate Olson (Eugene) of Georgetown, and Fern Morton of Ashland; eleven grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and eleven great, great grandchildren.
    Funeral services officiated by Bro. M. C. Rice were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 24th at Hearne Funeral Home, Inc., 125 West College Avenue, Stanton. Visitation began at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, June 23rd at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hatton Creek Cemetery alongside her husband, Alfred Earl Hatton.

    Margaret Jane Fox Rogers, age 72, of Glory Street in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a long illness.
    She was born November 29, 1943, in Abilene, Texas, a daughter of the late Cecil and Evelyn Mays Fox. She was a homemaker and had lived in Estill County most of her life. She attended the Bowen First Church of God.
    Ms. Rogers is survived by two daughters: Denise Neal, Madison County; and Nikki Bloom (Darren), Powell County; two sons: Cecil Neal (Rusti), Powell County; and Wayne Rogers (Amber), San Diego, California; two sisters: Evelyn Tackett, Estill County; and Carolyn Gould, North Carolina; six grandchildren: Sara Jane Neal, Graelyn Neal, Jamie Neal, Tori Bloom, Kelly Bloom, and Clarissa Rogers; one great grandchild, Katelyn Neal; her companion, Robert O. Sanders; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
    She was preceded in death by one son, Tony Neal.

KSP Continues Investigating the Disappearance of Brookelyn Farthing

    RICHMOND, Ky. (June 22, 2016) – Today marks three years since Brookelyn Farthing disappeared, and the Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post is asking for the public’s help as they continue the investigation.
    On June 23, 2013 the Kentucky State Police began investigating the disappearance of Brookelyn Farthing following a fire at 113 Dillon Court in Madison County. Some of Brookelyn Farthing’s personal belongings were recovered from inside the partially burned residence, however she was nowhere to be found. In the days, weeks, months and years following her disappearance, multiple searches have been conducted to no avail. Since the onset of the investigation, KSP has conducted and participated in multiple searches, continually followed up on leads, and actively sought new information. Additionally, a Facebook page ‘Missing: Brooklyn Farthing’ and www.findbrookefarthing.com have been created, as well as a $14,000 reward for information leading to the return of Brookelyn or the capture and conviction of those responsible for her disappearance.
