KY 89 (North Main Street) expected to reopen Friday, July 22nd
Bridge construction over Sweet Lick Creek
|
KY 89 (North Main Street/Winchester Road) at the north city limits of Irvine in Estill County was closed on Monday, July 11th and after nearly two weeks is scheduled to reopen on Friday, July 21st. The road was closed at milepoint 12.1, between Estill Springs Elementary School and Geneva Avenue.
No signed or marked detour were posted but drivers can use KY 499 (the Irvine bypass) and KY 52 (Richmond Road) as an alternate route. Motorists should plan their trips accordingly.
The closure is required for removal and replacement of the bridge over Sweet Lick Creek, and is part of the ongoing project to widen KY 89 on the north side of Irvine.
During the 10-day period, construction crews also began installing several cross drains along the portion of KY 89 that remained open. Drivers who use this section of highway should expect delays while that work is ongoing.
A detour has been blacktopped around the White Oak Creek overpass and is expected to be used when construction begins on that structure. Traffic will be able to continue through that area; however, large trucks may be directed to detour across the Bypass.
