Fundraiser for 2nd Time Cancer Victim

This is Christie Young, I work in the PVA office in the courthouse and we are doing a fundraiser for Robbie and Sondra Riddell. Robbie worked here in the courthouse as custodian for awhile and he is fighting cancer for the second time. He has been in Hospice for 4 weeks now and they had told the family when he went in he may last 4 weeks. He is a fighter and he is still going. He has faith that is unbelievable! He is an inspiration to everyone he meets. If you don’t know him, I wish you could. We are selling t-shirts and sweatshirts for them, and all of the proceeds go to them. We are putting up flyers everywhere we can, but we would love to be able to get it countywide, so we were wondering what the cost would be to put this in the paper? I have attached the flyer and a picture of them, so you can see who I am talking about. His wife Sondra is Jerry Chaney’s daughter. They are wonderful people that are battling a horrible disease. Please let me know.
            Thank you, Christie

While breast cancer affects people throughout the year, October has been marked as breast cancer awareness month. It’s used as a reminder to make sure women are keeping up with preventative and early detection measures.
“The key to breast cancer detection is early detection,” said Sharon Whitaker, Marcum & Wallace Hospital Director of Radiology. “It is so important for women to get annual mammograms and be proactive about their health.”
Please sign up for the free event by Friday, October 21 by calling 606-726-2106 (option 2).

Repairs are underway on KY 52 Kentucky River bridge in Irvine

Repairs were scheduled to begin Monday, Oct. 3, on the bridge carrying KY 52 over the Kentucky River in Irvine.
A $246,892.67 contract was recently awarded to replace the concrete curbs on the bridge.
Drivers should expect lane closures during overnight hours (8 p.m. to 6 a.m.) while the project is ongoing. One-lane traffic will be maintained on the bridge, controlled by temporary traffic signals, while the work is in progress. Normal two-way traffic is expected to be maintained during daytime hours.
Motorists who wish to avoid delays can use KY 89 (Winchester Road) and KY 499 (Joseph Proctor Bypass) as an alternate route. However, drivers who choose this detour will experience construction on KY 89 north of Irvine.
The bridge work is expected to take five weeks to complete, meaning it should be done by the first week of November. If the project is not finished by Nov. 15, the contractor is liable for liquidated damages.
