Marion Hardy, 87

    Marion Hardy, age 87, of Hardy Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, following a short illness.
    He was born January 21, 1930 in Estill County and was the son of the late Kizer and Rachel Catherine Stepp Hardy. He was a former employee of Riddell Construction Company and a member of the Pentecostal Church. He had lived in Estill County all of his life.
    Mr. Hardy was preceded in death by his wife, Mirtie Johnson Hardy.
    He is survived by six daughters: Brenda Joyce Riddell, Laverne Estes (Earl Sr.), Pauline Walling, Evelyn Hardy, Carolyn Sue Riddell (Anthony), and Doris Jean Hardy (Robert), all of Irvine; one son, Jimmy Hardy (Hazel), Irvine; three brothers: Glendon Hardy, George Hardy, and Harvey Hardy, all of Irvine; five grandchildren including his only granddaughter, Cindy Marie Riddell; 14 grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his first grandchild, Mickey Riddell; and five brothers: Jesse, James, Leon, Estill and Tracy Hardy.
    Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 28, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Bill Wesley and Bro. Jason Riddell. Honorary Pastors were Bro. Ross Conley and Bro. Buford Powell. Burial was at the Hardy Cemetery. Friends called after 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Bertha Lee Wise

    Bertha Lee Wise, age 75, widow of Odell Wise, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
    She was born on April 19, 1941, in Estill County, Kentucky, to the late James R. and Stella Shuler Watson. She was a nurse assistant at Fountain Circle Nursing Home and a member of Trinity Church of God.
    Mrs. Wise is survived by six children, Roger Wise, Phyllis Clem (Ronald), S. Kathy Stephens (Ronnie), Rebecca Wise (Rick Ball), Mary Lamb and Tonya Wise; nine grandchildren, Ryan Clem, Samantha Wise, Matthew Rucker, Cassie Stephens, Brandon Miller, Shavona Prater, Aaron Wise, Bria Wise and Julia Richardson; six great grandchildren, Rhiley Rucker, Braydon Stephens, Leigha Wise, Maddie Prater, Carter and Eden Miller; one brother, Teddy Watson; and one sister, Margie Rogers.
    In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Russell Wayne Wise.
    Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 30th at Trinity Church of God, 285 Winn Avenue, Winchester, by Bro. Billy Keller. Burial will be in Clarmont Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the church.
    Pallbearers will be grandsons and sons-in-law.

    Arthur Embry, age 76, of Maupin Hill Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017, at his home following a long illness.
    He was born April 20, 1940 in Estill County and was the son of the late Hugh and Hazel Babb Embry. He was a mason and a retired rig operator with Western Crude. He attended the Lower Red Lick Holiness Church and the House of Prayer. He had lived in Estill County all of his life.
    Mr. Embry is survived by his wife, Thelma Plowman Embry; five daughters: Connie Murphy (Dennis), Bobbie Townsend (James), Hazel Hardy (Jimmy), Charlene Sellars (Tony), and April Embry Coffey (Jason), all of Estill County; four sons: Arthur Earl Embry (Patty), Michael Jr. Embry (Annie), Brian Eugene Embry (Amanda), Dwight Steven Embry, all of Estill County; 22 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; a grandchild he raised: Brook Townsend; many nieces and nephews; and two pets: Gracie and Tiger.
    He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Michael Edward Townsend and Lucas Carl Embry; three sisters: Louise Arvin, Gracie May Embry and Mattie Embry; and five brothers: Eugene Embry, Robert Embry, Shannon Embry, Nelson Vickers and Chester Embry; and two loving pets: Prince and Lazy.
    Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 29, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Bruce Alcorn, Bro. Jerry Rose and Bro Paul Luster. Burial will be at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Tuesday, March 28th at the funeral home.

    Thelma Sizemore Webb, age 87, passed away in her home on Friday, March 24, 2017. She was born March 17, 1930, and was very blessed to have lived a long and full life surrounded by her family and friends and is now reunited peacefully with her husband, James Howard Webb.
    Thelma is survived by her sons: Danny (Linda) and Donald (Patty); and her grandchildren: Shannon, Danielle, Angie, Bradley, Ryan, Matthew, and Josh. In addition, she is survived by her great grandchildren: Hayden, Tyler and Isaiah.
    She was a loving and respected sister to Polly, Ollie, Sylvester, Baxter, Mettie, Baxter, Sylvester, and to those siblings who have passed, John, Steve, Marthie, Lee, Luther, and Bonnie. She was also a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.
    Thelma will be greatly missed in her community where she was socially active in the senior citizens center, local bingo, and church. She touched many people with her warmth, kindness, and giving heart. The loss of Thelma is immense to those who loved and cared for her, but we will seek comfort and solace knowing she has gone home to rest peacefully with our Lord and Savior.
    Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 29th at Lewis-Abner Home for Funerals with Bro. Scott Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the Sandhill Cemetery. Friends called Tuesday, after 6:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

    Survivors include his wife, Alma R. Lee; sons: Anthony Lee (Deborah), Jeffrey Lee (Deborah) and Glyn Rogers Jr; a daughter, Dianna K.     Alverta Hymer Brinegar, age 103, widow of Willie Howard Brinegar, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 22, 2017, at the Irvine Health and Rehab Center.
    She was a native of Estill, born April 12, 1913, a daughter of the late Sam Hymer & Bitha Murphy Hymer. Mrs. Brinegar was a retired cook.
    She was preceded in death by a son, Carlos Ray Brinegar.
    Survivors include her children: William Edward Brinegar (Chris), Kenneth Franklin Brinegar (Betty), Ruby Roberts (Leon), and Pauline Bingham (James); her grandchildren: Michael Brinegar, James Ray Brinegar, Christian Brinegar, Dwayne Bingham (Donna), Robbie Roberts (Shaye), James Bingham Jr. (Timiri), William Edward Brinegar Jr. (Chris), Debra Raye Kissick (Roger), Sherie Ann Lolos, and Ken Brinegar (Amber); her great grandchildren: Justin Bingham, James Bingham, Ratasha Puckett, Rachel Roberts, Dawson Bingham, Tia Brandenburg, Cody Marshall, Kasie Isaacs, Tanya Brinegar, and Jaimie Bazar (Steve); and nine great, great grandchildren also survive.

    Angeline Jean Brandenburg, age 83, of Lakeshore Drive in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at her home following a short illness.
    She was born March 7, 1934, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of the late Antonio and Victoria DelVecchil Cioffi. She was a mail clerk with Procter and Gamble and was a member of the Severns Valley Baptist Church in Elizabethtown.
    Mrs. Brandenburg was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Fred Brandenburg.
    She is survived by two daughters: Teresa DeStefano (Mike), Cincinnati; and Donna Fohl (Larry), Elizabethtown; a son, David Brandenburg (Sandy), Kettering, Ohio; one brother, Pat Cioffi (Sue), Cincinnati; eight grandchildren: Jennifer Miller (Jon), Melissa Miller (Mike), Julie McNamee, Tom Fohl (Michelle), Steve Fohl (Dana), Justin Brandenburg (Brittany), Kelly Westcott (Andrew), and Mike Fohl (Lindsay); and nine great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by a grandson, Joseph Brian Fohl; and 10 siblings.

    Harvey Carroll, age 74, of Hinton Branch Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a long illness.
    He was born September 6, 1942 in Estill County and was the son of the late Ernest and Sarah Isaacs Carroll. He was a farmer and a retired cab driver and had lived in Estill County all of his life.
    Mr. Carroll is survived by two sons: Harvey Carroll Jr. (Tanya), Ukraine; and Terry Carroll (Sonya), Estill County; two sisters: Linda Harrison, Estill County; and Kate Webb, Madison County; two brothers: Rice Carroll and Bonnie Carroll, both of Estill County; four grandchildren: Jeremy Carroll, Teia Brandenburg, Tate Parks and Christian Carroll; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Carroll; and one sister, Van Brinegar.

    Eva Rae Richardson, age 83 of Hamilton, Ohio, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 21, 2017.
    She was born in Stanton, Kentucky on February 1, 1934 to Omer and Hilderth (Hall) Blythe. She enjoyed spending time with her family, her backyard garden and shopping.
    Eva is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 63 years, Vernon Richardson; her children, Charlotte Henderson (Dave), Gary Richardson (Susan), Jeanie Asher (Butch) , Donna Ginn (Bill), and Sharon Hall (Steven); her grandchildren, Crissy Snader (Bill), Jerrod Moore, Aaron Lehman, Matthew Bower, Estill Hall (Jamie), April Alderucci (Rob), Jessica Ginn (Shane), Cheyanne Burke, Autumn Burke, and Falicity Stone; her great grandchildren, Billy, Emily, Abby, Karli, Kaylee, Ashley, Eva, Brooke, Eli, Sophia, Bige, Faith, Kiaya, Jaylen, Alex, Andrew, Tatum, Kenzi, Noah, Brady, Jonah, Makena, and Paislee; a great greatgrandchild on the way; her siblings, Alma Caldwell and Bill Blythe; and her lifelong friends, Jean Keen and Jackie Scheid.
    She was preceded in death by five siblings and her parents.
    Funeral service was held at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio, on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 1 p.m. with Keith Staton officiating.     She was born March 19, 1932, in Estill County, a daughter of the late Jesse and Ruth Ann Estes Richardson. She was a homemaker and a seamstress. She was a member of the Sandhill Christian Church and had lived in Estill County all of her life.
    Mrs. Lutes was preceded in death by her husband, Clausen Lavaughn Lutes.
    She is survived by one daughter, Donna Joyce Lutes, Estill County; a son, Ronald Lutes, Estill County; three sisters: Edna Marie Dennis, Loraine Crawford, and Phyllis F. Gilbert, all of Estill County; and a brother, George Richardson, Estill County.

    Tony Cecil Lamb, age 70, husband of Sandra Kay Lamb, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2017 at Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, Kentucky.
    He was born on September 13, 1946, in Estill County, Kentucky, to the late George B. Lamb Sr., and Hazel Wagers Lamb. He was a member of Forrest Grove Christian Church and University of Kentucky Committee 101 for 36 years. Mr. Lamb coached little league and Babe Ruth baseball, attended Morehead State University and served as secretary of the local UAW. He was retired from Rockwell International.
    In addition to his wife of 51 years, he is survived by a daughter, Tonya Ellen Lamb; a son, Eric Keith Lamb; a very special grandson, Weston Keith Lamb; several nieces, nephews and one great nephew.
    Services were at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 21, by Pastor Larry Deckard, at Forest Grove Christian Church,4733 Old Boonesboro Road in Winchester. Burial was in Winchester Cemetery. Visitation was Monday, March 20th from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at the church.

     Robert Dawes, age 99, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017.
    He was born October 8, 1917 in Estill County, KY to Henry and Annie Dawes. He was retired from the old L & N Railroad, and was a member of the Farmdale Church of the Nazarene.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Dawes.
    He is survived by his sons, Bobby Gene “Pete” Dawes (Della) and Harlan “Juball” Dawes (Carol); daughters, Brenda Hale and Judy Knight (Ed). He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren.
    His funeral service was held at 1 p. m. on Tuesday, March 21st at Embry-Bosse Funeral Home, 2723 Preston Highway, Louisville, with entombment in Evergreen Mausoleum. Visitation were after 11 a. m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.

    Milford Parnell Todd, age 73, of Todd Lane in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at his home following a long illness.
    He was born November 20, 1943 in Estill County and was the son of the late Willard and Irene Powell Todd. He was a retired GM employee and had lived in Estill County most of his life. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, the Masonic Lodge where he held the 32nd degree, the Shriners, the Eagles and the American Legion.
    Mr. Todd is survived by his wife, Lettie Mae Ratliff Todd; two daughters: Kimberly Lynn Todd Geer and Angela Michele Todd Webster (Brian), both of Beavercreek, Ohio; three stepsons: Aaron David Moore, Dayton, Ohio; Terrance Michael Sorah, Tipp City, Ohio; and Robert John Sorah, Vandellia, Ohio; ten grandchildren: Dusty Lynn Kalback (Derek), Cody Wyatt Geer (Javi), David Moore, Cassie Taylor, Kip Sorah, Zachary Sorah, Karleigh Sorah, Robert Northrap, Jason Sorah and Brady Sorah; six great grandchildren: Willa Evelyn Irene Kalback, David Moore, David James Moore, Titus Taylor, Lucas Taylor and Kaily Moore; and his special dog, Little Bit.
    He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Chip Geer.

    Etta Marie Willis, age 80, of Dry Branch Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at her home following a long illness.
    She was born March 26, 1936 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Daniel Odell and Sarah Jane McKinney Estes. She was a former American Tobacco Company employee and had lived in Estill County all of her life. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and also a former member of the Eastern Star.
    Mrs. Willis was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Eugene Willis.
    She is survived by three daughters: Sue Patrick, Owen County; Amanda Bessie McIntosh, and Nita Jane Tipton, both of Estill County; one son, Claude Nelson Willis, Estill County; ten grandchildren: Charles Staton, Daniel Willis, Belinda Addison, Jeff Wilson, Kathy Cole, Betty Ramos, Bobby White, Larry White, Amanda Neal and Claude Willis II; 15 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
    She was preceded in death by one son, Charles Danny Willis; three sisters: Frances Muncy, Lillian Todd, and Verda Mae Chamberlain; and six brothers: Orvil, Ollie, Glen, Joe Eddison, Odell and Hiram Estes.

SBA Offers Disaster Assistance to Residents of Kentucky Affected by Severe Thunderstorms, Tornadoes, Winds and Hail

     Kentucky businesses and residents affected by severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, winds and hail from Feb. 28 through March 1, 2017 can apply for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration, SBA Administrator Linda E. McMahon announced today.
     McMahon made the loans available in response to a letter on March 16 from Michael E. Dossett, Authorized Representative of Gov. Matthew Bevin, requesting a disaster declaration by the SBA. The declaration covers Estill County and the adjacent counties of Clark, Jackson, Lee, Madison and Powell in Kentucky.
     "The SBA is strongly committed to providing the people of Kentucky with the most effective and customer-focused response possible to assist businesses of all sizes, homeowners and renters with federal disaster loans," said McMahon. "Getting businesses and communities up and running after a disaster is our highest priority at SBA."
     SBA's customer service representatives will be available at the Disaster Loan Outreach Center to answer questions about the disaster loan program and help individuals complete their applications. The Center is located in the following community and is open as indicated:

     Businesses and private nonprofit organizations may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace disaster damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory, and other business assets.
     For small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations, the SBA offers Economic Injury Disaster Loans to help meet working capital needs caused by the disaster. Economic Injury Disaster Loan assistance is available regardless of whether the business suffered any physical property damage.
     Loans up to $200,000 are available to homeowners to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate. Homeowners and renters are eligible for loans up to $40,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property.
     Applicants may be eligible for a loan amount increase up to 20 percent of their physical damages, as verified by the SBA for mitigation purposes. Eligible mitigation improvements may now include a safe room or storm shelter to help protect property and occupants from future damage caused by a similar disaster.
     Interest rates are as low as 3.15 percent for businesses, 2.5 percent for nonprofit organizations, and 1.875 percent for homeowners and renters with terms up to 30 years. Loan amount and terms are set by the SBA and are based on each applicant's financial condition.
     Applicants may apply online using the Electronic Loan Application (ELA) via SBA's secure website at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela. .
     Businesses and individuals may also obtain information and loan applications by calling the SBA's Customer Service Center at 1-800-659-2955 (1-800-877-8339 for the deaf and hard-of-hearing), or by emailing disastercustomerservice@sba.gov. Loan applications can also be downloaded at www.sba.gov/disaster. Completed applications should be returned to the center or mailed to: U.S. Small Business Administration, Processing and Disbursement Center, 14925 Kingsport Road, Fort Worth, TX 76155.
     The filing deadline to submit applications for physical property damage is May 19, 2017. The deadline for economic injury applications is Dec. 20, 2017.
