Ledford Cox, 74
Ledford Cox, 74, husband of Shelia Marcum Cox, passed away Monday, January 8, 2018 at his home.
Mr. Cox was a native of Jackson County, born November 7, 1943; a retired employee of Carhartt, and a member of the Drip Rock Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his brothers: Oba, Daniel, George, Howard, and Leonard Cox; and his sisters: Mary Reva Cox, Nellie Lynch, Della James, Dovie Oaks, Nannie Brandenburg, Flora Clark, Ora Pierson, Lona Cox, and Lyda Cox.
Survivors, other than his wife of 45 years, Shelia, include his son, Billy Ray Cox; his brothers: Ivan Everett and Marion Cox; his sisters: Maudie Marie Richardson, Lillie Frances Feagins, Dorothy Blackwood, Ethel Sue Richardson, Helen Clark, Alice Lou Townsend, and Nancy Fox; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 11, at Drip Rock Baptist Church with burial following in the Marcum Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 10th at Lewis-Abner Funeral Home, and at the church Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until service time.
Wilma Jean Broughton Turner, 88
Wilma Jean Broughton Turner, widow of Truman Turner who preceded her in death on June 27, 2017, died on January 6, 2018 at her home in Richmond, Kentucky.
Born October 6, 1929, in Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Ermine Curtis and Rose Arvin Broughton of Dodd Road in Madison County. She attended the Dodd Road one-room school for seven years after which she graduated from Waco High School and received her BS and MA degrees from Eastern Kentucky University.
She taught at Irvine Grade School about a half a year and then taught third grade at Waco School for 36 years. She still remembered her students in prayer.
Mrs. Turner was a member of Viney Fork Baptist Church where she served as pianist for over 60 years. She was active in WMU, Sunday school, VBS, Madison County Teachers Association and Gideon’s Auxiliary, and she also loved to read, travel and farm.
She was preceded in death by her parents and both sisters, Fay Arvin Broughton and Anna Marie Broughton Noble.
Mrs. Turner is survived by a niece, Ada Wilson, a nephew, Eugene Wilson (Mary), a great nephew, John Wilson, and a great niece, Lauren Wilson, all of Richmond, Kentucky. She is also survived by eight first cousins and many others cousins, friends and her pets, Creamer and Maggie
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 10, at Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home, 1110 Barnes Mill Road, Richmond, with Bro. Harry Hoover and Bro. Ralph Shepperon officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation was from 5 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, January 9th at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be John Wilson, Clint Canterbury, Owen Flynn, Ronnie Colbenson, Luke Honaker, Russ Barclay and Jimmy Green.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Arvin, Bill Maupin, Don Brattin, Ricky Flynn, Frank Turpin, Glenn Hill, and Harold Richardson Jr.

Doris Jean Cole Fortney, age 76, the wife of Wendell Fortney, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at her home.
She was born on August 20, 1941, in Estill County, the daughter of the late Chester and Mary Withers Cole. She was the office manager for Central Kentucky Inspection and was also retired from Irvin Industries. She was currently a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Estill County, but grew up and was baptized into the fellowship of The First Baptist Church of Irvine. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, Wendell, include two daughters: Nerissa Anne Fortney Gregoire (Rene), and Mechelle Renee Fortney McAninch; one son, Wendell Reed Fortney (Kristy); three brothers: Lester Cole (Barbara), Norman Cole (Emmaleen) and Kenny Cole (Kelly); two sisters: Lyda Harrison (Dallas) and Carolyn Baber; seven grandchildren: Morgan Fortney, Tiffany Wilson Hall, Clinton Wayne Fortney, Megan Winkler, Natalie McAninch, Catherine McAninch, and Jeanna Fortney; three great grandchildren: Jarrod Green, Brenton Hall and Danyelle Hall; one great, great grandchild, Kinley Sizemore; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents: she was preceded in death by two sisters: Sally Cole and Shirley Epperson; and two brothers: Carl Cole and Chester Cole Jr.; and one grandchild, Carter Alan Fortney.
Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 7, at the First Baptist Church, 351 Broadway, Irvine, with Rev. Sherl Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Flatwoods Cemetery at Waco. Visitation was from 6-9 p.m., Saturday, January 6th at church.
Pallbearers were Clinton Fortney, Jarrod Green, Beatle Lisle, George Tribble Jr., Lester Darren Cole and Harold Botner Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were her three brothers: Lester Cole, Norman Cole, Kenny Cole; and Ronnie Smith, Rick Childers, Joel Casteel and George Bryant.

William Roy Witt, age 94, husband of Edna Sharp Witt, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at his home.
He was born in Estill County, Kentucky, on September 20, 1923, to the late James and Ada Richardson Witt. He was a farmer, attended Trinity United Methodist Church and was a United States Army Air Force veteran of World War II.
In addition to his wife of 72 years, he is survived by daughter, Brenda Parido (Richard); two sons, Gary Witt (Regina) and Glenn Witt (Jaimie); seven grandchildren, Amy Walters (Jeff), Ashley Ritchie, Kayleigh Coldiron, Justin Witt (Samara), Madison Witt, William Elisha Witt and William Zachary Witt; six great grandchildren, Tanner Walters, Hagan Walters, Kashton Ritchie, Arianna Witt, Gable Witt and Ariel Bailey; a sister, Edna Epperson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Leo Witt, Anna Mae Estes, Corban Witt, Eldon Witt and Donald Witt.
Services were at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Scobee Funeral Home by Pastor Eric Patterson. Burial was in Winchester Cemetery. Visitation was Friday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Bill Sharp, Justin Witt, William Elisha Witt, William Zachary Witt, Tanner Walters and Jeff Walters.
Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters, great grandchildren and his caregivers.

Verna Delois Estes, 56
Verna Delois Estes, 56, mother of Jacob Riddell, Elizabeth Sandlin, and Kenneth Estes, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018.
She was a native of Estill County, born August 13, 1961, a daughter of Bertha Riddell and the late Paul Riddell. She was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Riddell.
Survivors include her son Jacob Riddell (Teresa), her son Kenneth Walker Estes, her daughter Elizabeth Sandlin; her siblings: Tammy Samantha Cole ( Shannon), Rhonda Willis, Tim Riddell (Vonda), Robin Riddell (April), Gary Riddell (Patty), Paula Hopkins (David), Jennifer Larrison (Willie), Paul Riddell Jr. (Gina), Ernest Riddell (Deesha), and Matthew Riddell (Amanda); and her grandchildren: Cody Shandlin, Shane Sandlin, Logan Riddell, Careter Riddell, Jarren Newton, Keeton Estes, and Kiser Estes.
Services were held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 6, at Lewis-Abner Home for Funerals with Bro. Scott Rogers officiating. Friends called from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Thomas Addison, Claude Willis, Alex Cole, Jeff Wilson, Cody Sandlin, Shane Sandlin and Logan Riddell.

Richard Doyle Embs Sr., age 53, of Ravenna, Kentucky, died Saturday, December 30, 2017 at UK Medical Center in Lexington.
Richard was a Estill County native, of the Christian faith and was a brick layer. He enjoyed being outdoors; fishing, hunting and camping. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Cheryl Hobbs Embs of Ravenna; his mother, Elsie Embs Richardson of Irvine; three sons: Chris Burton and Richard Embs Jr., both of Winchester; and Shawn Embs of Irvine; one brother, David Embs (Roxie) of Irvine; and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one stepson, Justin Hobbs; one brother, Kirk Richardson; and one sister, Charlene Richardson.
The service were private.

Ella Jean Chapman, age 86, widow of Almus Chapman, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Irvine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Powell County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Dillard and Leona Lane Smith and a former employee of Curlee Clothing Company. She was a member of Church Of The Nazarene in Irvine.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Damon Ray Chapman; and three grandchildren: Daryl Barnes, Jamie Chapman, and Michael Norton.
She is survived by two sons: Almus Clinton Chapman of Irvine and Mike Chapman of Nancy; two daughters: Vada Barnes (Mike) of Irvine and Paula Combs of Clay City; two brothers: J. C. Smith of Leeco and Hubert Smith (Ganell) of Winchester; seven grandchildren: Leah Wiseman, Mickey Tucker, Jason Chapman, Jeremy Chapman, Amber Ratchford, Kimberly Hall and Matthew Combs; along with several great grandchildren.
Funeral services officiated by Bro. Brad Epperson were held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 3, Hearne Funeral Home Inc., 125 West College Avenue, Stanton. Visitation began at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 2nd at the funeral home. Burial was in Lane Cemetery with Jason Chapman, Jeremy Chapman, Derick Norton, Matthew Combs, Daryl Chapman, Kenny Tucker, Boone Tucker and Dean Tucker serving as active pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers were Mike Barnes, Hubert Smith, J. C. Smith, Johnny Smith and Brian Smith.
Edith Mae Stamper, 90
Edith Mae Stamper, age 90, of Barnes Mountain Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017, at the Irvine Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
She was born November 28, 1927 in Irvine and was the daughter of the late John and Pearl Allen Embry. She was a homemaker and member of the Old Time Baptist Church. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
Mrs. Stamper was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Stamper.
She is survived by her daughter, Kay Richardson (Luther), Irvine; three grandchildren: Sherri Cox, Melissa Abney and Andrea Isaacs; three great grandchildren: Ashley Simpson, Hannah Wiseman and Cheyenne Abney; and three great, great grandchildren: Colton Simpson, Maddox Simpson and Lila Hill.
She was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, January 1, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Jerry Chaney. Burial was at the South Irvine Cemetery. Friends called after 11:00 a.m., Monday, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were James Abney, Shane Isaacs, Justin Wiseman, Scott Riddell, Clay Rice and Joseph Marwil.

Chester Cole Jr., age 74, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, after a short illness.
He was born in Estill County on October 17, 1943, the son of the late Chester and Mary Ethel (Withers) Cole. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He retired from Leggett and Platt. He also worked and owned a service station.
Chester Cole Jr. is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Morefield Cole; three sisters: Doris Fortney (Wendell) of Waco, Lydia Harrison (Elmer Dallas), and Carolyn Baber, both of Irvine; a twin brother, Lester Cole (Barbara) of Irvine, two brothers: Norman Cole (Emmaleen) of Waco, and Kenny Wayne Cole (Kelly) of Lexington.
Mr. Cole is preceded in death by a brother, Carl Cole; and two sisters: Sally Cole and Shirley Epperson.
Funeral services were conducted at Warren F. Toler Funeral Home on Sunday, December 31, at 2:00 p.m., with burial following at Oakdale Cemetery. Friends called between 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, December 30th at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers were Wendell Reed Fortney, Lester Darren Cole, Randall Harrison, Chris Cole and Jeff Moreland.

Bobby Wayne Carroll, age 46, of Pea Ridge Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at his home.
He was born April 22, 1971 in Estill County and was the son of Wanda Riddell Duncan and the late Wayne Carroll. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
Mr. Carroll is survived by his mother, Wanda Riddell Duncan; one daughter, Courtney Jane Carroll & fiancé, Lucas Decker, Irvine; three sisters: Tina Cole (Richard), Christy Cox (Robbie), both of Irvine; Debbie Conrad (Kirk), Waco; one brother: Billy Carroll, Irvine; one grandchild, Paislee Elizabeth Decker; and many nieces and nephews and other family members.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, December 30, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at the Pea Ridge Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Friday, December 29th at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Lucas Decker, Michael Hunt, Ran Hall, Cory Sparks, Kenny Kelly, Todd Riddell, Marty Newton, and Timothy Johnson.

Mitchell "Mitch" David Begley, 50

Mitchell "Mitch" David Begley, 50, of Interlachen, Florida, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017, due to injuries received in an ATV accident.
Mitch was born in Elizabethtown, Kentucky and had lived in Interlachen for the past 22 years coming from Irvine, Kentucky. He worked in lawn maintenance and owned and operated his own lawn care service. He enjoyed fishing, camping, flying his drone, and spending time with family and having cookouts.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jeremiah Ray Rivera.
Surviving are his wife, Tennia E. Begley of Interlachen; his parents, Arnold and Maggie Begley of Interlachen; two daughters and son-in-law, Stephanie and Raymond Begley-Rivera and Michelle Begley (Kimberly) all of Interlachen; two adopted daughters, Layla McIntire and Natalie Rivera, both of Interlachen; two brothers, Arnold R. Begley (Christina) of Interlachen and Elijah Begley (Pam) of Irvine; five sisters: Sheila Snyder (Robbi), Loura Kelly (Brian), Rachael Turner, and Naomi Finley (David), all of Interlachen; and Rhonda Begley of Macon, Georgia; a sister-in-law, Mary Jo Durnan of Interlachen; five grandchildren: Bethany Rivera, Jayden Rivera, Lileigh McIntire, Zaryah Burman, and Zadyan Burman; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, December 31, 2017, at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka, Florida; with Rev. David Finley officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. Burial followed at Pinelawn Cemetery in Interlachen.
