William J. “Bill” Stephenson, 88

William J. “Bill” Stephenson, age 88, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018 at The Terrace in Berea.
Mr. Stephenson, the son of the late Arthur and Betsy Stephenson, was born in Carter County on January 22, 1930. He began working for the Lowe Brothers Company in Dayton, Ohio and later relocated to Richmond and retired as a Supervisor from Sherwin Williams. He loved his family and enjoyed singing in his church choir at Rice Station Christian Church.
He united in marriage to Joanne Coleman Stephenson who preceded him in death on October 13, 2012.
Survivors include four sons: Gary Stephenson (Lou Ellen) of Dallas, Texas; William G. “Bill” Stephenson (Pat), Jeff Stephenson (Denise), all of Lewisburg, Ohio; and Dennis Stephenson (Roberta) of Richmond; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Mr. Stephenson was also preceded in death by his son, Tony Stephenson; four brothers: Robert, Arthur Ray and Vonnie Stephenson; and his sister, Creola Ringler.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 9, at Rice Station Christian Church, 1675 Rice Station Road, Irvine, with Bro. Kirt Scott officiating. The family will welcome friends after 11:00 a.m., Friday, at the church.

Alvin Pitts, 87

Alvin Pitts, age 87, of Crooked Creek Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, February 23, 2018, at the Irvine Health and Rehabilitation Center, following a long illness.
He was born April 30, 1930, in Estill County, a son of the late Thomas Steven and Lula Proffitt Pitts. He retired from General Motors as an assembly line worker and was a farmer. He was a member of the Irvine First Church of God and the Fitchburg Masonic Lodge. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
Mr. Pitts is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann Winburn Pitts; two daughters: Christina Gail Pitts, Estill County; and Carol Jane Pitts, Ohio; and two sisters: Leona Vickers and Betsie Simkins, both of Ohio.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Clayton; and one brother, Harold Pitts.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, February 27, 1:00 at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Scott Moler with burial following in the Crowe Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Monday, February 26, at the funeral home.
Gracie Young Wilson, 84
Gracie Young Wilson, age 84, of Pine Ridge Road in Winchester, Kentucky, passed away Friday, February 23, 2018, at the Clark Regional Medical Center following a long illness.
She was born January 13, 1934 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Lonnie and Louanna Hale Neal. She was a homemaker and attended the Easter Valley Baptist Church. She had lived in Clark County most of her life.
Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her husbands, Ernest Young and Burris Wilson.
She is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Sparks, Clark County; two sons: Billy Young and
Ernie Young, both of Clark County; two brothers: Wallace Neal and
Lonnie Neal, Jr., both of Clark County; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Tony Young; one sister, Beulah Williams; one brother, Grant Neal; and one grandchild, Michelle Leigh Young.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, February 26, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jerry Chaney. Burial was at the Campbell Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Sunday, February 25th at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Ernie Young, Devon Young, Logan Strejan, William Estes, Anthony Haggard and Kenneth Fraley, Jr.
Honorary pallbearer was Caleb Fraley.
Sally Ray Hobbs Hill, 95

Sally Ray Hobbs Hill, age 95, died Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Marcum
Wallace Memorial Hospital in Irvine, Kentucky, after a short illness.
Born in St. Helens,
Kentucky, on Flag Day (June 14) in 1922, she was the daughter of Daniel Clay and Viola
Hieronymus Hobbs. She was a graduate of St. Helens High School at age 16 and
the University of Kentucky in 1944 with a B.S. in vocational home economics.
Sally and Virgil D. Hill married during World War II. They had three
children: Nancy Farmer (Monte), Dr. James D. Hill, and Dr. Margaret Hill (Dr.
Regan Moore).
Also surviving are grandchildren: Dennis Farmer (Michelle), Jamie
Hill, and Lindsay Hill; plus six great grandchildren: Mckinlee, Kaylee, Kelby, and
Brady Farmer, and Destiny and Zackary Chrisman.
She worked for the U.S. Census Bureau as an enumerator in five eastern
Kentucky counties. She also taught in one-room schools in Lee County and Wolfe
County, at Ravenna Grade School, and retired as a teacher and food service
director for the Estill County Schools.
Sally was a member of Irvine United Methodist Church and the Estill County
Retired Teachers Association. She was a charter member of Pi Chapter of Delta
Kappa Gamma. She enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, and keeping up with her
family and friends despite arthritis and age. Her “girls,” Carolyn, Shirley, Betty,
Hailey, Debbie, Shirley T., Lynda, and Bonnie enabled her to enjoy her Ravenna
home until her final illness.
Dr. Maher Kassis and the kind and caring staff at
Marcum Wallace Hospital eased her transition to a better world.
Visitation for Sally H. Hill was from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, at Lewis-Abner Home for Funerals and from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. service time, Sunday, February 25, at Irvine United Methodist Church. Burial followed at St. Helens Cemetery in Lee County.
Pallbearers were family members.
Honorary pallbearers were Earl
Blackwell, Emmanuel Blackwell, Jay Mansfield, Mark Trimble, Eddie Hughes, Jack
Rivel, Joel Noland, Charles Crowe, Tim Hall, Rodney Dennis, Jeff Hix, and Jimmy

Nana Lou Mastin, 86
Nana Lou Mastin, age 86, of Campbells Branch Road in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Monday, February 19, 2018, at her home following a long illness.
She was born July 27, 1931 in Typo, Kentucky and was the daughter of the late William Strater and Lula Strange Merrill. She was a homemaker and owner of Kristi’s Krafts. She had worked at the Kentucky State Park at Buckhorn and retired from the Appalachian Regional Hospital. She had lived in Estill County for the past 30 years.
Mrs. Mastin was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Mastin.
She is survived by her dughter, Audrey Baker (Darrell), Ravenna;
one sister, Gladys Langdon, Krypton; two grandchildren: Kristin Kaye Elswick (Brad) and Darren James Baker; and two great grandchildren: Caleb Hunter Ballard and
Byron Blye Baker.
Mrs. Mastin was preceded in death by three sisters: Roxie Campbell, Agnes Merrill and Marie Collins; and nine brothers: Luther, Lucien, Oscar, Earnest, Charlie, Burrell, Clarence, William Strater, Jr. and Robert Merrill.
Graveside services were conducted Saturday, February 24, 1:00 p.m., at the Oakdale Cemetery with the eulogy being given by Mike Tyree and tithes of blessing given by Michael Turner. Friends called from 11:00 a.m. until service time, Saturday, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Darrell Baker, Caleb Hunter Ballard, Chad Rouse, Shane Turner, Todd Eads and Jeff Langdon.

Timothy Wayne Jenkins, 59
Timothy Wayne Jenkins, age 59, of Hood Avenue in Irvine, Kentucky, departed for eternity Sunday, February 18, 2018.
He was born November 13, 1958 in Madison County and was the son of Flossie Stepp Profitt and the late Linville Jenkins. He was a former United States Marine and a member of the Baptist Church. He enjoyed going to the Horizon Adult Healthcare. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
Survivors in addition to his mother include one sister, Sandy Broadbent, Fayette County; and three brothers: Gregory Scott Profitt, Powell County; Charles Vernon Profitt Jr. and Brian Profitt, both of Estill County.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Charles Profitt; and his long-time companion, Mattie Barnett.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, February 23, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Sandy Broadbent. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called after 11:00 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Brian Profitt, Charles Profitt, Gregory Profitt, Lowell Stone, Joshua Henry and Roger Rawlins.
Lucille Isaacs Skinner, 72

Lucille Isaacs Skinner was born October 16, 1945 in Madison County and departed this life Sunday, February 18, 2018 at her residence, being 72 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Oscar & Mary (Evans) Isaacs.
Lucille is survived by three sons: Dale Skinner (Jennifer) of McKee, Charles Skinner (Gracie) of Irvine, and William Skinner of McKee; and by four siblings, Ralph Isaacs of McKee, Marion Isaacs (Amanda) of McKee, Delores Combs of Ohio, and Faye Dixon (Leon) of Madison County. She was blessed with two grandchildren, Kadara and John Luke Skinner.
In addition to her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Skinner; and by three brothers, Vester, Lester and Lyndon Isaacs.
Funeral services were at 12 Noon, Thursday, February 22, at Lakes Funeral Home, 1181 Main Street South, McKee, with Bro. Jerry Rose officiating. Burial followed in the Lainhart Cemetery.

Barbara Kate Williams, 69
Charles Thomas Williams, age 71, and his wife, Barbara Kate Williams, age 69, of Hood Avenue in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018.
Charles was born May 14, 1946 in Clark County and was the son of the late Charles Jr. and Alma Berry Williams. He was a retired Trane Company employee and had lived in Estill County most of his life. He attended the White Oak Church of God and formerly served as pastor of the Chavis First Church of God and Flemingsburg First Church of God.
He is survived by a sister, Nancy Held (Mike).
Barbara was born April 13, 1949 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Charlie and Scottie Riddell Neal. She was a homemaker and had lived in Estill County all her life.
She is survived by four sisters: Clara Donahue, Hester White, Essie Gordon and Roetta Hackworth.
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by three siblings: Edith Hall, Myrtle Miller and Norman Neal.
Charles and Barbara were preceded in death by their daughter, Rebecca Mae Williams; and are survived by their son, Anthony Thomas Williams (Tonya) and one grandchild, Hannah Mae Williams.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, February 21, 11:00 a.m., at the White Oak Church of God by Bro. Glennis Sizemore, Bro. Glyndon Woosley and Bro. David Watson. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Tuesday, February 20th at the church.
Pallbearers for Charles were David Watson, Steve Held, Ritchie Barnes, Sandy Barnes, Steve Collins, Douglas Means and Scott Barnes
Pallbearers for Barbara were Eddie Donahue, Charles Donahue, Ryan Miller, Dalton Neal, Eugene Miller and Chris Chaney.

Daniel Boone Ball Sr., 81

Daniel Boone Ball Sr., age 81 of New Tazewell, Tennessee, formerly of Harlan, Kentucky, went to Heaven on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at his home with family by his bedside.
Dan was born April 6, 1936 in Harlan County, Kentucky, to the late Hayward and Edna L. Ball. He was lifelong carpenter who did work all over Harlan County and surrounding areas for years. He was a saved man and was a member of the Elcomb Baptist Church and enjoyed singing Gospel Music.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Patsy L. Ball; two sisters, Betty Wingo and Barbara Jones; and a grandson, Aaron D. Hensley Ball.
Surviving is his sister, Margaret Hammonds of New Tazewell, Tennessee; children, Daniel Boone Ball Jr. (Cindy) of Irvine, Terrie Lynn Ward of Rockfield, Bill Duane Ball and James Michael Ball, both of New Tazewell, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends are left to mourn his passing.
Visitation was after 11:00 a.m. Sunday, February, February 18, until the funeral hour at Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home, 111 South 3rd Street, Harlan, followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m., in the Chapel with Pastor George Henard officiating.
Burial followed in the Ball Family Cemetery in New Tazewell, Tennessee, with Jerry Hall, Steve Hendrickson, Jim Wilhoit, Christopher Greene, Koda Jones, and Sheldon Cassetty serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers were Ken Bowling and Michael Ball.

Pauline Clayton, age 85, of New Lebanon, Ohio, sister of Alvin Pitts of Irvine, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018.
Born April 22, 1932, she was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Steven and Lula Profitt Pitts; a brother, Harold Pitts; and a son-in-law, Hank Kettler.
Pauline is survived by her husband, William T. Clayton; three sons, James William Clayton, Thomas Lee Clayton, and Bobby Eugene Clayton (Jenny); two daughters, Nancy Back (Donald) and Madonna Sue Kettler; nine grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; three siblings, Alvin Pitts (Margaret), Leona Vickers (Andrew), and Betsie Simkins (Howard).
A visitation was on Wednesday, February 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rogers' Funeral Home, 324 West Main Street, New Lebanon, Ohio. The funeral service began at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 22 at the funeral home with Pastor Kelly Scott Moler officiating. Burial followed at Royal Oak Memorial Gardens, Brookville.

Mary Neal Wilson Davis, age 87, widow of Billy White Davis, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
She was a native of Neon, Kentucky, born September 18, 1930, a daughter of the late Henry Evan an Emma Elizabeth Johnson Wilson. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Providence Baptist Church. Mary enjoyed sewing, and knitting, and being active in her church.
Mrs. Davis was preceded in by her brother, J.P. Wilson.
Survivors include her daughter, Terry Edwards; her son, Roy E. Davis (Laura); her grandchildren: Billy Edwards (Monica), Becky Timberlake (Ricky), Andrea Davis, and Evan Davis; her great grandchildren: Will Edwards, Emily Edwards, Bradley Timberlake, and Marie Timberlake; her sister, Alice Honchell; her brother, Jim Wilson, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation began at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, at Lewis-Abner Home for Funerals. Services were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 14th at the funeral home. Burial was in Oakdale Cemetery.
Albert Dewayne Hawkins, 41
Albert Dewayne Hawkins, age 41, of Tipton Ridge in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital, following a short illness.
He was born April 26, 1976 in Estill County and was the son of the late Albert Hawkins and Peggy Lee Bowles Murphy. He was an employee of Leggett & Platt and attended the The Well in Richmond. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
Mr. Hawkins is survived by his girlfriend of 15 years, Renae Hudson; four sisters: April Merrell (Stanley), Winchester; Lisa Kilburn (Jeff), Chasity Roe (Stevie), both of Irvine; and Keshia Murphy-Higgins, Ravenna; four nieces, three nephews and two step-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Wayne Hawkins.
Memorial services were conducted Thursday, February 15, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Terry Barnes. Friends called after 11:00 a.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
Suette Morguson, 77

Suette Morguson, age 77, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018 at University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
She was born in Estill County on February 3, 1941, to the late Bergin and Dovie Woods Tuttle. She was retired from Square D. Company where she worked for more than 23 years. She was a Cincinnati Reds and University of Kentucky Basketball fan. Mrs. Morguson enjoyed puzzles, front porch sitting, time spent talking with neighbors, and gardening.
Survivors include her daughter, Anna Ruth Morguson; six grandchildren: David Morguson, Brett Morguson, Kayla Ellis (Justice), Whitney Tipton, Riley Morguson and Austin Tipton; and three great grandchildren: Haven Morguson, Bentley Holder and Knox Ellis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Allen Morguson.
Services were at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 14, at Scobee Funeral Home, 219 West Lexington Avenue, Winchester, by Pastor Ron Ingram. Burial was at the Tuttle and Woods Cemetery in Irvine. Visitation was from 1:00 p.m. until time of service, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Brett Morguson, David Morguson, Austin Tipton, Riley Morguson, Rich Jenks, Leonard Beltz, Don Chaplin and Gerald Patrick.
Betty Hovermale Haynes, 89

Betty Hovermale Haynes, age 89, wife of Robert Haynes Jr., died Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
Born November 13, 1928 in Morgan County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Al Y. and May Cecil Carter Hovermale. Mrs. Haynes was a University of Kentucky graduate, a retired appeals officer for the Internal Revenue Service, and a CPA. She formerly attended Beaumont Presbyterian Church.
Survivors, other than her husband, include a daughter, Patricia Arthur Miller, Lexington; three grandchildren, Leigh Galloway, Louisville; Samantha Arthur, Alabama; and Daniel Arthur, Texas; two stepsons, Joel Haynes, Montana; and Mark Haynes, Las Vegas, Nevada; a step-grandson, Jesse Webster, Frankfort; three step-granddaughters, Annalise Haynes, Oregon; Kaitlin Haynes and Courtney Haynes, both of Montana; two sisters, Peggy Wilson and Janis Wiseman, both of Irvine; a special niece, Peggy Lou Frazeur; and three special caregivers, Tammy Horton, Beverly Reed and Tom Berryman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dale Alan Arthur; a stepdaughter, Melissa Haynes; and a brother, Bobby Hovermale.
She was loved by all.
A graveside service was held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, January 27, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Irvine. Visitation was 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 27th at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home – Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, prior to the graveside service.
