James Gary “Redman” Stone

    James Gary “Redman” Stone, age 70, of Stanton, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018 at his residence.
    He was born October 1, 1947 in Richmond to the late James Roy and Lorraine Sewell Stone. He was a farmer, a veteran of the United States Air Force, a Shriner, a member of the Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Peacemakers Motorcycle Club of Richmond.
    Mr. Stone is survived by his wife, Kathy Allen Stone of Stanton; a son, Donnie Stone of Lexington; a stepson, Matthew Chaney of Stanton; a stepdaughter, Cari Allen (Justin Rogers) of Irvine; a stepdaughter, Michele Frederick of Lexington; five grandchildren; a brother, Larry Stone (Debra) of Irvine; and a sister, Rhonda Childers (Mike) of Irvine.
    He was preceded by his parents, James and Lorraine Stone; his first wife, Pam Stone; and a brother, Kenneth Stone.
    Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 4, at the Grayson Funeral Home Chapel, 201 7th Avenue in Clay City, with Bro. Tony Story and Bro. Bruce Tipton officiating. Friends visited Tuesday, July 3rd from 6 'till 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial was in the Rose – Freeman Cemetery on New Fox Road in Estill County.

Michael Lewis Taylor

    Michael Lewis Taylor, age 50, of Glasgow, Kentucky passed away, Friday, June 29, 2018 at the Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville. He was the husband of Kimberly Taylor, formerly of Irvine.
    He was born February 16, 1968 in Hart County, Kentucky, a son of Patricia Bishop (John) and Herbert Taylor (Colette).
    He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Taylor; six children: Michael Lewis Taylor, Jr. (Christiana Cornette) of Missouri, Timothy Blake Taylor of Bowling Green, Jacob Chase Taylor of Glasgow, Jennah Shelyn Rogers (J.T. Deckard), Nathaniel Dewayne Rogers and Hunter Ray Rogers, all of Glasgow; two brothers: Tony Taylor (Angela Wilson) and Wayne Houchens; one sister, Michelle Houchens (Chris Spencer); and several nieces and nephews.
    Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Vernon and Lucille Reece; two uncles: Bobby and Jody Reece.
    Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, at the Hatcher and Saddler Funeral Home, 123 Elm Street, Glasgow; with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation was after Noon, Monday, July 2nd at the funeral home.

Martha Elizabeth Martin

    Martha Elizabeth King Martin of Louisville, Kentucky, age 91, passed away Friday, June 29, 2018. She was born March 21, 1927 in Estill County.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, William Foster King and Martha Elizabeth King (Riddell), her sister, Eva Chevela; and her brothers, John K. King and James F. King.
    Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 70 years, Wayne Price Martin; and her two children, Bill Martin (Caroline Martin) and Susie Hadley (Terry Hadley MD); and her grandson, John Hadley.
    Visitation was Tuesday, July 3, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Ratterman Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road, East Louisville. A brief service followed at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral Home. Burial took place at Cave Hill Cemetery.

Alonzo "Buddy" Baber, 97

    Alonzo "Buddy" Baber, 97, husband of Mary, passed away Friday, June 22, 2018 at his home in Pensacola,Florida.
    Mr. Baber was a native of Estill County, born May 10, 1921, a son of the late Bill and Cora Wise Baber, he was a retired employee of CSX, and a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Pensacola. He was a United States Naval veteran, serving aboard the USS North Carolina, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
    He was preceded in death by his sister, Beaulah Baber; his brother, L.J. Baber; and his sister, Eva Lou Dawes.
    Survivors other than his wife Mary include his son, Danny; his brother, Bill; and several nieces and nephews.
    Services were held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 30 at the Lewis-Abner Home for Funerals with Mark McClaine officiating. Burial followed in the West Irvine Cemetery with full military honors. Friends called after 6:00 p.m., Friday, June 29th at the funeral home.

    Harry Columbus Jones, age 95, of Witt Ridge Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital, following a short illness.
    He was born August 14, 1922 in Clark County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Alonzo Scott and Olivia Warner Jones. He was a retired farmer and construction worker and a member of the River Drive Christian Church. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Anita Faye Crowe Jones; one daughter, Marian Carpenter, Winchester; four sons: Timothy Karl Jones (Patricia), Richmond; Gary Jones (Sandy), Texas; Scott Jones (Joann), Irvine; and Tom Jones (Susie), Florida; two sisters: Nancy Kistner, Ohio; and Virginia Ann Smith, Irvine; one brother, Emmett Lee Jones, Nevada; 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by one son, Terry Jones; two sisters: Julia Mae Parker and Juanita Griggs; and five brothers: Cornelius “Buddy”, Kenneth, Lonnie Paul, Cecil Edward and John William Jones.
    Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 29, 1:00 p.m., at the River Drive Christian Church by Bro. Paul Groves. Burial was at the South Irvine Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Thursday, June 28th at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home and after 12 Noon, Friday, at the Church.
    Pallbearers were Clayton Babb, Colburn Babb, Roderick Jones, Corey Jones, Jaden Far and Darius Far.

    Roy Young, age 65 of Barnes Mountain Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, June 25, 2018, at his home following a short illness.
    He was born December 13, 1952 in Estill County and was the son of the late Theo and Maggie Isaacs Young. He was a retired ATS Construction employee and had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Young is survived by his wife, Thelma Jean “Puchie” Flannery Young; two sisters: Marie Young (Calvin) and Darlene Calmes (Darrell), both of Estill County; one brother, Troy Young, Estill County; a sister-in-law, Brenda Young, Estill County; a brother-in-law, Delbert Spivey, Estill County; 11 nieces and ten nephews.
    He was preceded in death by three sisters: Ella Young, Gearldean Newton, and Jeanette Spivey; and three brothers: Luther, Frank and Jack Young.
    Funeral services were conducted Thursday, June 28, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Jimmy Lee Williams. Burial was at the Dunn Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Wednesday, June 27th at the funeral home.

    Eldon Lee “K.Y.” Smith, age 72, of Marcum Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, June 22, 2018, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness.
    He was born July 23, 1945 in Jackson County and was the son of the late Lafayette and Lana Sue Arvin Smith. He was a retired Caterpillar employee and a member of the Drip Rock Baptist Church. He had lived in Illinois most of his life.
    Mr. Smith is survived by one daughter, Jamie Lynn Stage (Walter),Genoa, Illinois; one stepson: Jason Morgan (Katie), Cherry Valley, Illinois; one sister, Wilma E. Harris, Fayette County; one brother, Curvin D. Smith, Woodford County; and three grandchildren: Dakota, Mason and Abigail.
    He was preceded in death by two sisters: Alma C. and Anna V. Smith; and one grandchild, Ayden.

    Edna Brandenburg, 86, of Winchester, Kentucky, wife of the late Maurice Brandenburg, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Stanton Health and Rehab.
    Edna was born in Estill County on March 19, 1932 to the late Cecil and Ethel Brandenburg Wood. She retired from Curley Clothing in Winchester.
    Survivors include one daughter, Billie Rena Turley (Henry) of Mt. Sterling; two sons: Robbie Sapp (Michelle) of Campton and Donald Chaplin (Rose Hafley) of Winchester; two grandchildren: Adam Chaplin and Alyssa Turley; one sister, Udessa Lovely of Florida; one brother, Eugene Wood of Estill County; and she also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
    Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Scobee Funeral Home, 219 West Lexington Avenue, Winchester. Burial followed in the College Hill Cemetery in Waco. Visitation was from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service, Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Lyle Jeffery Elliott

    Lyle Jeffery Elliott, age 61, of Jacquelin Court in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2018, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a long illness.
    He was born June 2, 1957 in Connorsville, Indiana and was the son of Charles Lane and Ina Jewell Elliott. He was a Trane Company employee and attended the Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was a United States Marine veteran and a member of the American Legion. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Survivors, in addition to his father and mother, include his wife, Donna Faye Freeman Elliott; one stepson, Joseph Case Jr., Irvine; one sister, Lisa Noble (Donald), Irvine; three brothers: Steve Elliott (Wanda), Stanford; Mark Elliott and David Elliott (Jennifer), both of Irvine; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
    Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 25, 2:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Sherl Thomas. Burial was at the Flatwoods Cemetery. Friends called Monday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Military honors were performed by the American Legion.

    Stephen Dwight Rison, age 48, of Rison Circle in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2018, as the result of an automobile accident.
    He was born February 27, 1970 in Estill County and was the son of Mary Stella Horn Rison and the late Dwight Rison. He was an employee of Okonite and a member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Survivors, in addition to his mother, include several aunts and uncles and a host of cousins and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Earl and Rachel Rison and Leonard and Fanny V. Horn.
    Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 23, 2:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Merle Travis. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called after 12:00 Noon, Saturday, until service time at the funeral home.

David Monroe "Dave" Maggard

    David Monroe "Dave" Maggard, age 80, of Estill County, Kentucky, formerly of Leslie County, passed away Monday, June 18, 2018 at the University of Louisville Medical Center, Louisville.
    He was born February 7, 1938 in Hyden, Kentucky, the son of the late John Maggard and Orlena Bowling Maggard. He had been a resident of Estill County since 1989. By occupation Dave had been a vocational teacher for 28 years for the Leslie County and Estill County school systems. Dave was united in marriage to his loving and devoted wife, Helen Skeens Maggard, on November 15, 1958. He enjoyed mechanics, woodworking (making instruments), eating, avid coffee drinker, fishing and going to the beach. Dave was a distinguished songwriter & musician. He had won song of the year "SPYGMA". He was a ASE Master Technician & had been commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel.
    Dave was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Boone, Ben, Paul and Ed Maggard; one sister, Hazel Lovett; three brothers-in-law: Edgar Lovett, Brutus Begley and Chuck Collins; and a sister-in-law, Melva Maggard.
    He leaves the following relatives surviving, his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Helen Skeens Maggard of Ravenna; three beloved daughters: Teresa Maggard of Ravenna, Melissa McIntosh (Chris) of Richmond, and Audrey Clowers (Tim) of Irvine; his beloved son, David Maggard Jr. (Vickie) of Richmond; three sisters: Mary Ethel Collins of Birmingham, Alabama; Leona Begley of Zebulon, North Carolina; and Patricia McKinney (Richard) of Richmond; six treasured grandchildren: Amy Brangers, Paul Maggard, Travis Maggard, Cody Lewis, Motly King and Mason Clowers; four treasured great grandchildren: Katie Maggard, Brad Maggard, Kendall Maggard and Emi Maggard; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    Visitation began at 12:00 Noon on Monday, June 25, at Dwayne Walker Funeral Home,155 Hickory Street in Hyden with funeral services following at 4:00 p.m. with Minister Mack Lewis officiating.

    Edwin Rose, age 85, of Estill County, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the Irvine Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following a short illness.
    He was born January 19, 1933 in Bourbon County and was the son of the late Lewis and Lucy Horn Rose. He was a retired farmer and masonry contractor and had lived in Estill County most of his life. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
    Mr. Rose is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eva Alexander Rose; one daughter,Virginia Hunt (Rick), Estill County; one brother, David Rose (Doris), Harrison County; one brother-in-law, Bill Freeman (Ann); and a special nephew, Harold Freeman.
    He was preceded in death by four sisters: Eudell Williamson, Irene Freeman, Ailene Vance and Lillian Walton; and one brother, Shirley Rose.

    Alma Logsdon Carpenter, 86, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018.
    She was a native of Estill County, born May 25, 1932, a daughter of the late Hampton and Corneley Logsdon. She was a homemaker and a member of the Holiness faith.
    Ms. Carpenter was preceded in death by her daughters: Wanda Sue Davis and Betty Evelyn Sparks; her grandchildren: Tina Plymon, Eddie Plymon, Jenny Sparks Richardson, Candy Carpenter, and Cash Carpenter; her sisters: Susie Hisle, Lezzie Crowe, Zaney Logsdon, Helen Harrison, and Mary Ruth Logsdon; and her brothers: Snowden Logsdon, Harvey Logsdon, Carlos Logsdon, and Wade Logsdon.
    Survivors include her daughters: Bonnie Lou Beaty (Clay) and Haroldlena McCollum; her sons: Frankie Jr. Carpenter (Tammy), Rickey Duran Carpenter (Wendy), and Anthony Jason Carpenter (Diana); and her grandchildren: Diana Gail Plymon, Daphne Plymon, Alma Reeves, Anthony Hicks, Charles Ray Beaty, Jimmy Beaty, Zachary McCollum, Alasha McCollum, Catrina McCollum, Derrick Carpenter, Taylor Hope Carpenter, Jason Dalton Carpenter, Tommy Roe, Frankie Roe, and Stevie Roe.
