William Edward Congleton, 79

    William Edward Congleton, age 79, of Lilly Avenue in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018, at his home following a long illness.
    He was born September 30, 1938 in Estill County and was the son of the late Marvin Edward and Grace Turner Congleton. He was a United States Air Force veteran, a retired Borden's employee and a member of the River Drive Christian Church. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Congleton is survived by his wife, Nancy Williams Congleton; one daughter, Deborah Rose (Garry), Estill County; and two sisters: Lorena Aines, Louisville; and Betty McIntosh, Lexington
    Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 26, 2:00 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Elmer Congleton. Burial will be at the Crawford & Moberly Cemetery. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.

Wendell Tracy Johnson, 77

    Wendell Tracy Johnson, 77, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018.
    He was a native of Estill County, born April 16, 1941, a son of the late Everett and Edith Howard Johnson. He was a retired brick mason, a former railroad employee, and he enjoyed horses and antiques. Mr. Johnson was an original member of the Rocky Mountain Horse Association.
    Survivors include his son, Stewart Johnson; his daughter, Patty Smotherman; his brothers: Mike and Doug Johnson; his sister, Jenny Johnson; and three grandchildren.
    Services will be held Thursday, July 24, at 2:00 p.m. at Lewis-Abner Home for Funerals. Friends may call anytime after 11:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.

Kathleen Marie Freeman, 76

    Kathleen Marie Freeman, age 76, of Brynell Drive in Lexington, Kentucky, passed away Friday, July 20, 2018, at Baptist Health Lexington following a long illness.
    She was born December 7, 1941 in Casey County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late James Edward Merritt. She was a retired restaurant hostess and a member of the New View Baptist Church. She had lived in Lexington most of her life.
    Mrs. Freeman is survived by her husband, Douglas Ray Freeman; two sons: Ira Ray Freeman (Cynthia) and Kevin Douglas Freeman (Cindy), both of Lexington; one sister, Frances Foley, Versailles; three brothers, Hollis Merritt, Winchester; Curtis Merritt, Ohio; and Paul Merritt, Salvisa; three grandchildren: Madison Jean-Marie Freeman, Miranda Halee Freeman, and Gabrielle Nicole Freeman.
    She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Ivy Britton Marie Freeman; three sisters: Mary Hundley, Darlene English, abd Betty Updike; and two brothers: George and Stanley Merritt.
    Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 24, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Tom Henderson. Burial was at the Freeman Cemetery. George Steven Hall, 67

    George Steven Hall, age 67, of Cobb Hill Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, July 20, 2018, at his home following a long illness.
    He was born June 16, 1951 in Dayton, Ohio and was the son of Delilah Smyth Hall Gould and the late Loyd Hall. He was a retired nurse with Baptist Health Richmond and had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma Dean Hall.
    Survivors in addition to his mother include one sister, Laura Minix, Madison County; two brothers: Douglas Hall and Gregory Scott Hall, both of Estill County; an honorary grandchild, Gabreil Rose; his caretaker & friend, Oma Combs; and several nieces and nephews.
    Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Lowell Clay Stone

    Lowell Clay Stone, age 76, of Old Fox Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a short illness.
    He was born January 6, 1942 in Estill County and was the son of the late Luther and Lillie Tuttle Stone. He was a retired employee of Bundy Tubing and had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Stone is survived by his wife, Nettie June Stepp Stone; one daughter, Karen Stone (Donnie Freeman), Irvine; one son, Jerry Stone (Pam), Irvine; four grandchildren: Chasity Wesley, Samantha Rawlins, Justin Shearer and Elijah Stone; and two great grandchildren: Samara Rawlins and Carlie Rawlins.
    Memorial services were conducted Saturday, July 21, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home by Sis. Sandy Broadbent. Friends called after 10 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.

Louise Gardner Sidwell Sparks, 89

    Louise Gardner Sidwell Sparks, age 89, of Winchester, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at her home.
    A native of Winchester, she was born on December 21, 1928, to the late William Wallace and Elizabeth “Lizzy” Turner Gardner. She was a homemaker, Sunday school teacher at Beverly White Towers for 22 years and a member of Church of God Cathedral on Lexington Road.
    Survivors include three nieces: Debbie Ann Ashley, Pamela Sue Gardner and Nora Ruth House Tipton; two nephews: Rex Lee Gardner and Claude Thomas House; two step-sons, Jackie and Ray Sparks; sixteen great grandchildren; four brothers-in-law: Charlie Sparks (Linda), Clyde Sparks (Patty), Jesse Sparks (Crystal) and Ernie Sparks (Cheryi); two sisters-in-law, Edith (Harold) Rainey and Helen (Kelly) Fallen.
    Services were at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 20, at Scobee Funeral Home, 219 West Lexington Avenue, Winchester, by Rev. Kaleb Brandenburg at Louise’s request. Burial was in Winchester Cemetery. Visitation was Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Jackie Sparks, Charlie Sparks, Clyde Sparks, Ernie Sparks, Gary Willoughby and Kelly Fallen.
    Honorary pallbearers were Eric Sparks, Heather Sparks and Sandy Willoughby.

Jessie Boyd Dalton Jr., 91

    Jessie Boyd Dalton, Jr., age 91, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Monday evening, July 16, 2018 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center of Richmond.
    He was born September 13, 1926, in Richmond, Kentucky, to J. B. and Katie (Benton) Dalton, both of whom preceded him in death; and he was the husband of the late Betty Jo (Collins) Dalton. Boyd was a retired lockmaster at the Kentucky River for the Corps of Engineers and a member of Red House Baptist Church.
    Boyd entered the United States Navy at the age of 17 and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He served on the USS San Francisco and in seven naval battles and received seven Battle Stars. Boyd loved to fish and to tell “tall tales and stories.”
    Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Meadors (Pete) of Richmond; one son, Gary Dalton (Susan) of Irvine; two grandchildren, Brian Dalton and Sherri Eden; numerous extended grandchildren; one great-grandchild, Carlie Dalton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    In addition to his parents and wife, Betty Jo, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Edna Oliver, Myrtle Tribble, Blanche Masters, and Margaret McClure; three brothers, Delmar “Ace”, Eugene “Slick”, and Arnold Dalton.
    Funeral services for Boyd were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 21, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, 1110 Barnes Mill Road, Richmond, with Ed Cortez officiating. Burial followed at Richmond Cemetery with military honors. Visitation was from 5 – 9 p.m., Friday, July 20th at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Mike Harvey, B R Masters, Joe Masters, Jason McIntosh, Dwight Parks, and Al Tribble.
    Honorary bearers were Kenneth Baker, Earl Gulley, Don Hale, Don Richardson, Bobby Robinson, and Dean Wells.

Scotty Gilbert, 58

    Scotty Gilbert, age 58, a resident of the Irvine Health & Rehabilitation Center passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018, at the Center following a short illness.
    He was born March 29, 1960 in Estill County and was the son of the late Harvey and Gracie Gray Gilbert. He was a construction worker and had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Gilbert is survived by his wife, Patty Probes Gilbert; two daughters: Jessica Gilbert and Jennifer Gilbert, both of Georgia; two sons: Daniel Gilbert and Jason Chaney, both of Estill County; several brothers and sisters; and eight grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by one son, Scott “Scooter” Gilbert.
    Memorial services will be held at a later date.

    Regina Carol West, age 55, of Ticky Fork Drive in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness.
    She was the daughter of Brenda Parsons Mays and the late James Ottie Mays and was born on April 18, 1963 in Estill County. She was a retired Enersys employee and had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Survivors in addition to her mother include her husband, Hubert Wayne West; one daughter, Taylor Means, Madison County; one stepson, Chris West (Jessica), Estill County; two sisters: Rhonda Boian (Tim) and Beth Mays (Larry), both of Estill County; three grandchildren: Leander Meyer, Rowan Richmond and Lydia Noland; her mother-in-law, Eva West, Estill County; and several stepsisters and stepbrothers.
    Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, July 18, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Donnie Watson. Burial was at the West Family Cemetery. Friends called after 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Cody Boian, Chris West, Larry Boian, Randy Turner, Jerry Parsons, and Bobby Parsons.

Tara Suzanne Cole Tate

    Tara Suzanne Cole Tate, age 35, the wife of Richard Lee Tate, passed away Friday, July 13, 2018.
    She was born in Lexington, Kentucky and grew up in Estill County. She was a homemaker and a former hair stylist with Hairport Salon in Lexington. Tara was a loving wife and devoted mother. She was a member of The Olive Branch Church in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky.
    Survivors include her husband, Richard; four children: Brody, Parker, Houston and Rhema Tate; her mother and stepfather: Tammy Cole Smith and David Smith; one brother, Chris Cole; two sisters: Missy Deaton and Kim Hale (Shaun); her maternal grandparents, Charles and Barbara Brandenburg; her mother-in-law, Jackie Tate Stewart (Tom) and father-in-law, Darrell Tate (Rhonda); two special friends: Andrea Smith and Katie Parsons; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.
    She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Cole; and her paternal grandparents, Chester and Mary Cole.
    Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 19, at The Church on the Rock, 1049 Richmond Road, Berea, Kentucky, with Pastor Shannon Parkerson, Pastor Mark Sarver and Bro. Buford Parkerson officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery in Irvine. Visitation was from 3-9 p.m., Wednesday, July 18th at The Church on the Rock.
    Serving as pallbearers were Shaun Hale, Jeremiah Tate, Robert Brinegar, Brandon Brinegar, Scott Coomer and Bill Berryman.

Elmo Quinn Newton, 88

    Elmo Quinn Newton, age 88, of Newton Circle in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a short illness.
    He was born March 10, 1930 in Estill County and was the son of the late Wilgus and Addie Witt Newton. He was a farmer and a retired engineer with the Contel Telephone Company. He was a member and elder of the Station Camp Christian Church and had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Newton is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jewell Frances Doty Newton; three daughters: Teresa Morgan (William), Irvine; Rebecca Sheeks, Indiana; and Charlotte Riggins (David), Tennessee; two sons: Anthony Quinn Newton (Jean Ellen) and David Newton (Marcia), both of Irvine; one sister, Barbara Welch, Irvine; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by one sister, Onnalee Boardman; and two brothers: Alvin Douglas Newton and Nelson Newton.
    Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 13, 11 a.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Scot Beauchamp and Bro. Tom Burbrink. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Thursday, July 12th at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Nathaniel Newton, Seth Newton, Jonathan Newton, Russell Riggins, Joshua Sheeks and Jedediah Sheeks.
    Honorary pallbearers were Jason Williams, Steven Mainous, Bobby Welch, Ernest Lane Boardman, Oliver Welch, Gary Newton and the men of Station Camp Christian Church.
