Lillian Dean Arvin Harris, 95
|
Lillian Dean Arvin Harris, 95, of Estill County, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2018 at the Irvine Health and Rehab Center.
She was born Lillian Dean Arvin on December 14, 1923, a daughter of the late Rev. Nathaniel Green and Sarah Nicely Harris Arvin, both of Estill County.
Lillian (better known as Granny) was a homemaker and caregiver for the elderly and was the oldest living member of the New Bethel Baptist Church #1 on Barnes Mountain.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Avery Harris; and oldest daughter, Carolyn Harris Faircloth; nine brothers: Lawrence, Andrew, Herbert, Millard, Georgie, Nathaniel T., Fred, Trefford, and William Royce Arvin; and three sisters: Maggie Johnson, Gracie Arvin, and Daisey Arvin.
Survivors include her daughters Paulette and husband Rev. Billy Stamper of Irvine, Delores Jean Stamper (LaVaughn) of Waco, and Janice Flanagan (Robert C.) of Crossville, Tennessee. Lillian has 36 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends and relatives.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 26, at Lewis-Abner Home for Funerals with Rev. Billy Stamper officiating. Burial will follow in the Hoover Cemetery. Friends may call anytime after 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 25th at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Michael Flanagan, Shannon Faircloth, Justin Robinson, Holden Stamper, George Arvin, Devlin Gammell.
Honorary pallbearer is Dylan Bryant.
Gayla Joan Scott, 65
Gayla Joan Scott, age 65, of Brushy Mountain Road in McKee, Kentucky, passed away Friday, September 21, 2018, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, following a long illness.
She was born February 9, 1953 in Madison County and was the daughter of Lorraine Richardson Scott and the late Everett Thomas Scott. She was a retired nurse’s aide and had lived in Jackson County for the past 18 years.
Survivors in addition to her mother include her daughter, Amy Marie Scott, Jackson County; three sisters: Deborah Ann Bier, Chrystal Gale Jenkins and Patty Erwin, all of Ohio; and two brothers, Anthony Scott, Sr., Jackson County; and Thomas Edward Scott, Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Jeanenne Scott.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, September 26, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Margaret Spencer, 64, Stanton, Kentucky, widow of Isom Captain Spencer, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center, Lexington.
She was born May 5, 1954 in Pilot, Kentucky to the late Leonard Cleveland and Barbara Ellen Townsend Smith.
Survivors include one daughter, Tabatha Spencer; a sister, Lois Kay Embry; and two nephews, William Spencer (Tina) and Robert Spencer.
Services will be held on Thursday, September 27, 1:00 p.m., at the Davis & Davis Funeral Home, 777 W. College Avenue, Stanton, by Rev. Eddie Thomas and Rev. James Harold Combs. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 26th, 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the McQuinn Cemetery with Rob Little and Lee Little serving as pallbearers. Tracy Michelle Terry, 57
Tracy Michelle Terry, age 57, of Geneva Avenue in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, September 21, 2018, at her home.
She was born November 6, 1960 in Fayette County and was the daughter of Dr. Charles E. and Brenda A. Napier Terry. She was an honor student and was a member of the Wisemantown Methodist Church. She had lived in Estill County most of her life.
Survivors in addition to her father and mother include her grandmother, Etta Napier, Estill County; other family members: Barbara Napier, Kimberly Russo, Greg Napier, Todd Childers and Michael Childers.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Mark B. Terry.
Memorial services will be conducted Monday, October 1, 6 p.m., at the Irvine First Christian Church by Bro. Greg Humpert. Friends may call between 3 and 6 p.m., Monday, October 1, at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital.

David Howard Hoover, 42
David Howard Hoover, age 42, of Elm Street in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Friday, September 21, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, following a long illness.
He was born January 12, 1976 in Estill County and was the son of Donald Howard Hoover and the late Debra Jean Horn Hoover. He was a mechanic and attended the Old Time Baptist Church. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
Mr. Hoover is survived by his father, Donald Howard Hoover (Marcia); one son, Dalton Howard Hoover, Estill County; two sisters: Amanda Hoover, Madison County; and Jessica Isaacs, Estill County; one brother, Joshua Gilbert, Florida; and one grandchild, Salem Case Hoover.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, September 25, 1:00 p.m., at the New Bethel Baptist Church #2. Burial will be at the Hoover Cemetery. Friends may call after 12 Noon, Tuesday at the Church.

Mildred Armeda Brandenburg, age 57, of Sulphur Wells Road North in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2018, at her home following a long illness.
She was born April 2, 1961 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Douglas and Emily Fields Tipton. She was an employee of the Estill County School System and worked at the South Irvine Elementary School. She was a member of the Irvine Free Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and song leader. She especially loved scrap booking and flowers.
Mrs. Brandenburg is survived by her husband, Ricky Linn Brandenburg; one daughter, Michele Lee Abraham (David), Estill County; two sons: Noah Glenn Brandenburg and Ricky (Brittany) Brandenburg, Jr., both of Estill County; three sisters: Mary Sparks (Randall) and Lillie Mae Johnson, both of Estill County; and Lee Lane, Fayette County; six brothers: Douglas Tipton, Jr. (Rosetta), Robert Tipton (Rita), Darrell Tipton (Louise), James Tipton (Shelia), Lester Tipton (Susie), all of Indiana; and Vernon Tipton, Estill County; three grandchildren: Brooklyn Faith, Cailey Marie and Darren Levi Brandenburg; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Samantha Jo Brandenburg; two sisters: Ann Lane and Elaine Webb; and one brother, William Earl Young.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, September 24, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Tim Floyd and Bro. Chris Carlyle. Burial was at the Gould Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Sunday, September 23rd at the funeral home.

Shawn Mosley, 23
Shawn Mosley, age 23, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018. Shawn was born in Montgomery County, Kentucky, on January 2, 1995. He worked at Pizza Hut in Irvine and enjoyed playing ball and video games.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Tammy and Johnny Ogans; his father, Craig Stamper (Terriann Bernard); his sister, Brooklyn Stamper; three brothers: Josh Ogans, Johnny Ogans, Jr. and Seth Stamper; his paternal grandparents: Judy Stamper and Mike Rogers; several uncles, aunts and cousins and a very special uncle and aunt, Mark and Donna Thacker.
Shawn was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Donald and Diane Rose.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 24, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street in Richmond. Burial will follow in the Amos Richardson Cemetery in Estill County. Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon, Monday, at the funeral home.

Roy Douglas Puckett, age 73, of Broadway in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
He was born December 15, 1944 in Estill County and was the son of the late John Lee and Thelma Walters Puckett. He was the former owner of Puckett Ford and a former member of the Army Reserves. He attended the Methodist Church and had lived in Estill County all his life.
Mr. Puckett is survived by his wife of 50 years, Maxine Napier Puckett; two sons: Kevin Douglas Puckett (Lisa), and Eric Lee Puckett (Staci), both of Estill County; and three grandchildren: Mallory, Samantha and Shalee Puckett.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Joyce Riddell.

Lenzy B. Cox Sr., age 89 of Richmond, Indiana, died Sunday, September 16, 2018 at his home.
He was born September 26, 1928 in Estill County, Kentucky to James and Lora Estes Cox and lived in Richmond most of his life. He retired from Wayne Corporation where he worked as an electrician. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trap shooting.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Cleta; three children: Sharon Cox, Wendell Cox and Kelly Cox (Melissa), all of Richmond; three grandchildren: Cameron Cox, Kristen Page, and Kevin Cox; two great grandchildren: Ava and Haley Page; two brothers: Utah and Shelton Cox, both of Estill County; and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by one son, Lenzy Cox Jr.; and one grandson, Justin Duncan.
Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 20, in the Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Chapel, 222 North 10th Street, Richmond, Indiana; with Rev. Wes Sewall officiating. Burial was in Goshen Cemetery. Friends called 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 19th at the funeral home.

Rev. Cecil E. “Pudge” Morgan, age 53, of Sassafras, Kentucky, former pastor of Irvine First Baptist Church, was welcomed into the arms of his loving Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 15, 2018.
Cecil was born March 24, 1965 in Hyden, Kentucky to the union of the late Cecil and Della Mosley Morgan. He was a 1984 graduate of the Leslie County High School. He was united in marriage to Donna Baker on June 15, 1985. Cecil spent his formative years in Hyden and later he attended the Clear Creek Bible College in Pineville, Kentucky, graduating in 1993. Upon graduating, Cecil began his ministry. During his ministry, he presided over many churches, including, Dwarf Baptist church, Williams Memorial Baptist Church, Evarts Baptist Church, Leatherwood Baptist Church and Irvine First Baptist Church. Currently, he presided at the Smithsboro Baptist Church at Sassafras, Kentucky. Cecil loved the Lord and worked tirelessly for his cause. He was a beloved pastor, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Cecil was known by many as “Pudge” and by the children as “Bear Bear”. In his personal time, Cecil enjoyed fishing, hunting, and wood work.
In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by a sister, Alecia Ann Morgan Sickles.
He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Donna Baker Morgan of Sassafras; two beloved sons, Jonathon Cecil Morgan (Marie) of Hazard and Chester Morgan (Maricka) of Sassafras; two sisters, Charlotte Dykes (Larry), and Carty Rene Morgan (James), both of Stinnett; one cherished grandchild, Felicity Morgan; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Johnny and Jeanette Baker of Hyden; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family and friends also survive.
Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 19, at Smithsboro Baptist Church at Sassafras with Rev. Ronnie “Butch” Pennington, Jamie Reynolds and Rev. Tim Reynolds officiating. Interment was at the Morgan Family Cemetery, Hoskinston. Visitation was held 6:00 – 10:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 18, at the church.

Helen Harris, 84, longtime resident of Irvine, Kentucky went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 14, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Mooresville, Indiana, surrounded by loving family and friends.
Helen was born on April 11, 1934 in Barbourville, Kentucky to Charles and Dora Smith Merida. She was married on April 9, 1954 to Hargus Harris. A lifelong homemaker, her greatest joy was her family and home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Doris Gambrel; and her husband, Hargus Harris.
Mrs. Harris is survived by two sisters: Ruby Ramsey and Lea Ludwig; three children: Janet Bennett, (Mike), Mooresville, Indiana; Roger Harris (Laura), Crestview, Florida; and Debbie Williamson (Robert), Mooresville, Indiana; eight grandchildren: Jennifer David (Jr), Angela Morgan (Bobby), Ryan Harris (Jessica), Maggie Harris, Jessie Monts (Brandon), Jarrod Williamson (Taylor), Justin Williamson and Taylor Harris; and six great grandchildren: Jillian and Delaney David, Abigail and Michael Morgan, Hayden Williamson and Haisley Monts.

Margie Ann Ramey, 65, formerly of Winchester, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at home, Monday, September 17, 2018 after a long illness. She was born May 5, 1953 in Estill County to Claude and Elizabeth Bailey Newman. She leaves behind her husband of nearly 50 years, Chester Allen Ramey.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Anthony Ramey (Jennifer); a daughter, Floria Estes (Chris Toney); two sisters: Martha Horn (Robbie) and Helen Martin (Chamber); her brothers: Johny Newnam, Glenn Newnam, and Ronnie Newnam; three grandchildren: C.J. Estes, Hali Cundiff (Justin), and Hannah Ramey; her great grandchildren: Robert Allison and Jessica Cundiff; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Bailey Newnam; her father, Claude Newnam; her brothers: Ernie, Paul, and Claude Jr. Newnam; her sisters: Freida Vanderpool and Dorothy Cole; one son, Todd Ramey; and three grandchildren.

Edward Lee Ross, age 84, of Crystal Creek in Beattyville, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2018, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a short illness.
He was born December 16, 1933 in Lee County and was the son of the late Robert Walker and Mamie Stamper Ross. He was a retired Allen Company employee and a member of the Sandfield Pentecostal Community Church. He had lived in Lee County all his life.
Mr. Ross was preceded in death by his wife, Nannie Cole Ross.
He is survived by three daughters: Alene Gentry, Shirley Ratliff (George), both of Lee County; and Sharon Rawlins (Jack), Estill County; two sons: Jerry Ross (Vickie), Lee County; and Terry Ross (Stephanie), Madison County; two sisters: Mildred Griffin, Lee County; and Betty, Montgomery County; eleven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Louise and Martha Ross; and two brothers: Billy and Johnny Lee Ross.

Willie Jerry Newton, age 73, of Church House Hill in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2018, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness.
He was born May 8, 1945 in Estill County and was the son of the late Willie and Kathleen Arvin Newton. He was a retired employee of Eastern Kentucky University and the owner of Newton Septic Service. He attended the House of Prayer and had lived in Estill County all his life.
is survived by his wife, Stella Mae Powell Newton; one son, Jerry Douglas Newton (Bertha), Estill County; one sister, Charlotte Richardson, Estill County; one brother, Glenn Newton, Estill County; five grandchildren: Joshua Douglas Newton (Jamie), Jerrica Newton, Abel Lynn Newton, Jessica Hoover and Jayde Newton Raines (Selena); and several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Evelyn Hall; and one sister, Fannie Newton.

She was born April 7, 1972 in Rowan County and was the daughter of Lewis and Kay McKinney Maggard. She was an employee of Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital and had lived in Estill County most of her life.
Survivors in addition to her parents include: her husband, William J. Fowler; one daughter, Emily Fowler, Estill County; one son, Adam Fowler, Madison County; one brother, David Maggard, Jackson County; and her mother-in-law, Rebecca Viars Fowler, Estill County.

Washington Grant “W.G.” Patrick, age 72, of Winchester Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2018, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, following a long illness.
He was born September 17, 1945 in Estill County and was the son of the late Luther and Corda Roberts Patrick. He was a retired veteran of the United States Navy and a retired Merchant Marine where he worked as a radio officer. He also was a Ham Radio operator. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
Mr. Patrick is survived by two sisters: Nancy Roberts, Estill County; and Diane Embs (Doyle), Fayette County; one brother, Paul Patrick, Fayette County and several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services were conducted at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home. Burial was at the Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Bobby Patrick, Parker Luttrell, Philip Roberts, Chuck Embs, James Keith and Charles Ballman.

Wavelene Tipton, age 74, of Covington, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at her home. She was born October 25, 1943 in Estill County, the daughter of Audrey and the late Cecil Adams. Wavelene worked for St. Elizabeth Hospital in Housekeeping.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Shirley Tipton; her father; Cecil Adams; a daughter, Cindy Tipton; and a granddaughter, Jessica Schwachter.
Wavelene is survived by her sons: Jeffrey Tipton and Dwight Tipton; her mother; Audrey Adams of Ravenna; two sisters: Alma ”Gay” Freimuth and Shelia Adams; and one great grandchild.
Visitation was Saturday, September 15, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at Don Catchen & Son Funeral Home, 313 West 19th Street, Covington. Funeral service followed at 3:00 p.m at the funeral home.

Scotty Marshall, age 80, husband of Jean Williams Marshall, passed away at his home Tuesday, September 11, 2018, after a long illness.
He was born April 10, 1938 in Irvine, Kentucky, a son of the late Shelby and Mattie Noland Marshall. He was a retired employee of the Trane company and a former employee of Lewis Funeral Home. Scotty was a 27-year veteran of the National Guard.
Mr. Marshall was preceded in death by his brothers: Eugene, Edward "Snooks", James, and Charles; and a sister, Margaret Marshall.
Survivors other than his beloved wife Jean include his sons Gary Marshall (Amy) and Don Marshall (Vanessa); his grandchildren: Amber Thompson, Kasie Isaacs, Tiffany Young, Cody Marshall, Taylor Tate, Ryan Tipton, Deanna Moore, and Jacob Southwood; and eight great grandchildren also survive.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 14, at Lewis-Abner Home for Funerals with Bro. Jimmy Williams officiating. Burial followed in the Williams Cemetery. Friends called anytime after 6:00 p.m., Thursday, September 13th at the funeral home.

Rev. Millard Anderson, age 91, of Jeffersonville, Kentucky entered the gates of heaven on Sunday, September 9, 2018. He was the son of the late Ben and Maggie Willoughby Anderson.
Bro. Anderson was preceded in death by his son, Gary Wayne Anderson, and all of his brothers and sisters.
He was the pastor of the Jeffersonville First Church of God since 1983 and previously served as pastor of Gum Springs Church of God in Estill County. Preaching was his love and he had preached since 1957 at different churches in Kentucky. He also had a Christian radio program for 57 years. He was a United States Air Force Veteran having served in World War II and was a retired Avon army ordinance employee.
Bro. Anderson is survived by his wife of 67 years, Thelma Martin Anderson of Jeffersonville; two sons, John David Anderson (Debbie) of Mt. Sterling and Millard Douglas Anderson (Lynn) of Jeffersonville; four grandchildren, J. J. Anderson, Mikey Anderson, Megan Beth (Andrew Woods), Megan Pennington (Buddy Leach); four great grandchildren, Michelle Parker, Ethan Anderson, Nash Leach and Anderson Woods; and one great, great granddaughter, Addyson Vice. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and all of his church families.
Funeral services was at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 15, at the Taul Funeral Home Chapel, 109 East Main Street in Mount Sterling with Revs. Ganis Rogers, Raymond Townsend and Herbie Lewis officiating and burial following in the Martin Cemetery. Friends visited Friday evening from 5-9 p.m. at the Taul Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.

Honorary pallbearers were Stan Willoughby, Kelly Poe, Anderson Woods, Nash Leach, Ralph Smith, Hoss Prater, Phillip George, Kash Bishop, Stewart Sparks, Larry Bishop, Willie Ferguson and Allen Dudley.

Mildred Greene Stamper, 92, of Lancaster, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Landmark of Lancaster.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edgar Richard Greene.
Mildred was born on May 23, 1926 in Estill County, to the late Robert and Callie Dickerson Thacker. She was a homemaker and owned and operated Greene's Grocery for many years.
Surviving is a son, Walter "Bub" Greene (Sue) of Nicholasville; two daughters: Edna Shepherd (Clayton) of Garrard County and Hallie Lamb (Darrell) of Lancaster; Kenneth Thacker (Barbara) of Ohio, Jimmy Thacker (Sue) of Irvine, and Glenn Thacker of Cynthiana; six grandchildren, Dwayne Shepherd, Daniel Lamb, Dustin Lamb, Kimberlee Alvarez, Krystal Long, and Kelly Greene Miller; ten great grandchildren, Meghan Shepherd, Zack Alvarez, Alexis Alvarez, Kallie Ann Greene, Braden Greene, Avery Long, Jackson Long, Jaden Miller, Elijah Lamb, and Jack Lamb.
Mildred was also preceded in death by siblings, Charles Thacker, Clinton Thacker, Daisy Chester, Ellis Edwards, and Elsie Johnson.
Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 13, at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, 1782 Lexington Road, Lancaster, with Rev. Geno Washington officiating. Visitation was 6-9 p.m., Wednesday, September 12th at the funeral home. Burial was in Manse Cemetery in Paint Lick.
Active pallbearers were Dwayne Shepherd, Daniel Lamb, Dustin Lamb, Krystal Long, Kelly Miller, and Bill Hurt.
Honorary pallbearers were Fairview Christian Church members and caretakers at Landmark of Lancaster.
