Joseph Tipton Abney, 65
|
Joseph Tipton Abney, age 65, of Richmond, Kentucky, formerly of Irvine, husband of Patti Brown Abney, passed away at his home, Friday, November 16, 2018.
He was a native of Estill County, a son of the late Jessie and Mary Clay Alexander Abney. He was a retired physical education teacher and coach.
Survivors, other than his wife Patti, include his son, Joseph Abney; and his siblings: John Abney (Katy), Ella Smith (Merck), Terrie Tate (Jeff), and Rebecca Click (Blaine).
A funeral mass was held Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, 608 West Main Street in Richmond with Fr. Tom Farrell officiating, with a visitation following at Lewis-Abner Home for Funerals, 224 Main Street in Irvine, beginning at 12:00 Noon. Friends and family began sharing stories at 2:00 p.m. with burial to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Cameron Hendricks, Joseph Abney, Caleb Click, Cobbe Click, John Abney, Roger Brown, Jeff Tate, and Blaine Click.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Kentucky River Bassmasters.
Timothy Marshall Boian, 52

Timothy Marshall Boian, age 52, husband of Rhonda Mays Boian, passed away Friday, November 16, 2018, at the Marcum Wallace Hospital in Irvine, Kentucky.
He was a native of Estill County, born May 28, 1966, a son of Dorothy Scrivner Boian and the late Tom Boian.
Mr. Boian was preceded in death by his siblings: Wanda McIntosh and Billy Ray Boian.
Survivors, other than his wife Rhonda, include his daughter, Rebecca Sparks (D.J.); his son, Cody Boian; his mother, Dorothy Boian; his brothers: Larry Boian (Beth) and Henry Boian; his sisters: Linda Parsons (Bobby), Sondra Arvin (Doug), and Sheila Niece (Jeremy); and a grandchild, Kaigen Sparks.
Services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 18, 2018, at Wisemantown Methodist Church with Pastor Chris Carlyle officiating. Burial followed in the Gumm Cemetery. Friends called any time after 10:00 a.m., Monday, at the church.
Pallbearers were Stephen McIntosh, Eddie Collins, Wayne West, Ryan Boian, Barry Parker, and Marty Newton.
Lewis-Abney Home for Funerals was in charge of arrangements.
Wayne Neal, 81
Wayne Neal, age 81, of Joe Pore Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, November 16, 2018, at his home following a long illness.
He was born February 6, 1937, in Estill County and was the son of the late Bert and Nannie Rawlins Neal. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a retired CSX employee. He was a member of the Clock Association and had lived in Estill County most of his life.
Mr. Neal is survived by his wife, Thelma Vandlandingham Neal; three sons: Steven Wayne Neal, Dayton, Ohio; Ronald Darren Neal Sr., Estill County; and Timothy Neal; Piqua, Ohio; two sisters: Vica Horn, Tennessee; and Roenna Spainhower, Ashland; one brother, Johnny Neal, Georgia; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Wanda Sparks.
Memorial services will be conducted Friday, November 23, 12 Noon, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Kevin Horn. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post #79.
Vernon Ray Thacker, 79
Vernon Ray Thacker, age 79, of Wisemantown Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, November 16, 2018, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.
He was born November 4, 1939 in Lee County and was the son of the late William Thacker and Vada Centers Thacker McCoy. He was a former employee of Ashland Oil and a member of the Christian faith.
Mr. Thacker is survived by six daughters: Wanda Darlene Abner, London;
Sheila Rae Begley, Irvine;
Rhonda Michelle Barrett, Lexington;
Kathy Cole, Lee County;
Mandy Thacker, Northern Kentucky; and Linda Poet, Ft. Knox; one sister, Louise Dalton, Zoe; two brothers: Mitchell Harold Thacker, Hanover, Indiana; and Dennis Paul Thacker, Madison, Indiana; several grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Wanda Alice Ross Barrett; one daughter, Leatrice Thacker; one son, Timothy Leon Thacker; four sisters: Sue Boldrey, Liz Warner, Faye Ferguson, and Linda Jackson; and three brothers: Jerry, Robert and Gerald Thacker.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 21, 12 Noon, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. John Thacker. Burial will be at the Thacker Cemetery. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Mary Jane Barnes, 78

Mary Jane Barnes, age 78, widow of Boyd Estill Barnes, of Stanton, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.
Born in Powell County, she was the daughter of the late Roy Billings and the late Ada Mae Frazier Billings. Mary Jane was a former nurse at UK Medical Center.
In addition to her husband and her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sheila Gail Dawson; a granddaughter, Jessica Myers; and by her brother, Danny Billings.
She is survived by three sons: Eddie Barnes (Dawn) of Stanton, Mike Billings (Diana) of Winchester and Mike Gibson (Fetuao) of Portland, Oregon; two daughters: Paula Case of Stanton and Kathy Bailey of Winchester; a sister-in-law, Patty Billings of Stanton; four sisters: Connie Gardner (David) of Lexington, Shirley Lowe of Clay City, Nancy Cox of Stanton, and Glenda Lacy (Gary) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services officiated by Bro. Johnny Hurt and David Gardner were held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 16, 2018 at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton. Visitation was 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Burial was in Billings Cemetery in Estill County with Jacob Billings, Jason Billings, Brandon Berryman, William Barnes, Mike Gibson and Christopher Gibson serving as pallbearers.
Mary Sue Allen, 71

Mary Sue Allen, age 71, widow of Millard Allen, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Fountain Circle in Winchester, Kentucky.
She was born in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, on October 14, 1947, to the late Walter Bush and Mabel Barnett Hall. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Michelle Garland (fiancé, Scott Frasure); two sons, Sherman Wade (Chasity) and Tony Neal; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and late husband, she was preceded in death by her companion, Gregory Wade.
Services were at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 16, at Scobee Funeral Home, 219 West Lexington Avenue, Winchester, by Pastor Mike Hall. Burial was in Winchester Cemetery. Visitation was from 9:00 a.m. until time of service, Friday, at the funeral home.
Leona Bicknell, 90

Leona Bicknell, age 90, of Wisemantown Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a short illness.
She was born January 12, 1928 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Millard and Bessie Hisle Hymer. She was the former owner of Bicknell and Son Grocery Store and was a member of the Lower Red Lick Holiness Church. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
Mrs. Bicknell was preceded in death by her husbands, Carman H. Bicknell and Patton Brandenburg.
She is survived by two sons: Fairley H. Bicknell (Patricia), Madison County; and Michael Bicknell (Karen), Estill County; one brother: Tommy Hymer (Betty Lou), Estill County; five grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren and several step-children and step-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bicknell was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Sue Bicknell; and one brother, Orville Hymer.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, November 17, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. J. B. Alexander and Bro Fabian Lynch. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called after 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Ken Bicknell, Gregory Bicknell, Jay Bicknell, John Bicknell, Alex Gordon and Terry Hymer.
Melba Jean Bush, 72

Melba Jean Bush, age 72, of Furnace Junction in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Monday, November 12, 2018, at the Irvine Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following a short illness.
She was born February 24, 1946 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Elmer and Lillian Estes Todd. She was a former CMS employee and homemaker and was a member of the Ravenna Church of the Nazarene. She had lived in Estill County most of her life.
Ms. Bush is survived by two daughters: June Sorensen, Lexington; and Phyllis Moreland (David) Ravenna; three sons: Billy Blevins, Bobby Blevins and Kevin Blevins, Irvine; one brother: Darrell Todd (Pam), Richmond; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Meredith Dunaway; and one brother, Daniel Todd.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, November 15, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Scott Rogers. Burial was the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends called after 11:00 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home.

Larry Michael Hunt, 65
Larry Michael Hunt, age 65, of Daniels Addition in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2018, at his home following a long illness.
He was born July 17, 1953 in Dayton, Ohio and was the son of the late Norma Hunt Harris. He was a retired Exide employee and the former owner of Hunt’s Pawn Shop. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
Mr. Hunt is survived by his daughter, Crystal Meece (Eddie), Estill County; four grandchildren: Corey Bishop (Heather), Dalton Bishop, Tyra Hunt and Gage Hunt; one nephew, David Hunt & family; and his girlfriend, Michele Horn.
He was preceded in death by his son, Larry Michael Hunt, Jr.; and his brother, David Hunt.
Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, November 13, 11:00 a.m., at the Oakdale Cemetery by Bro. Joe Lahrmer.
Pallbearers were Dalton Bishop, Corey Bishop, David Hunt, Jon Horn, Joey Harkins and Joshua Harkins.

Kelley Gene Tipton, 56
Kelley Gene Tipton, age 56, of Kirkland Avenue in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2018, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a long illness.
He was born February 10, 1962 in Estill County and was the son of Doris Maxine Kelley Tipton and the late Darrell Gene Tipton. He was a KDMK employee and a member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include two brothers: Darrell Wayne Tipton and Kenneth Allan Tipton, both of Estill County.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 17, 1:00 p.m., at the Mt. Carmel Christian Church by Bro. Mark Pearson. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested toward the funeral expenses.
Rita Faye Henry Tipton, 73
Rita Faye Henry Tipton, age 73, mother of Mike Tipton, passed away Friday, November 9, 2018, in Richmond, Kentucky, after a long battle with cancer.
She was a native of Estill County, born April 15, 1945, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mabel Rollins Henry. She was a retired employee of Square D, and a beautician. She enjoyed socializing with her family, playing softball and bowling.
Ms. Tipton was preceded in death by her brothers: J.B. Henry, Gilbert Henry, Ronald Lee Henry, Carl Henry, and Billy Ray Henry; and a sister, Viola Tipton.
Survivors, other than her son, Mike Tipton (Lisa), include her sisters: Ann Williams, Mary Maddox, June Arvin, and Rebecca Pennington; her grandchildren Tara and Molly Tipton; her great-grandchildren, Tristan Estes and Layla Raines.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 12th at Lewis-Abner Home for Funerals with Pastor William Owens officiating. Burial followed in the Witt Cemetery. Friends called anytime after 12:00 Noon until service time, Monday, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Kevin Bryant, Tristan Estes, John Evans, Dallas Pennington, and Greg Bryant.
Honorary pallbearers were Ray Arvin and Robert Simpson.

Mary Florence Tipton Clem, age 91, formerly of Estill County, passed away Wednesday morning, November 7, 2018, at Diversicare of Oxford, Alabama, after a long illness.
She was a native of Estill County, born February 5, 1927, a daughter of Daniel Henry and Inis Irene Roe Tipton. She was a retired cook from Estill County High School and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Irvine.
Mrs. Clem was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Clem Sr., a son, Woodrow Clem Jr., her parents, Daniel Henry and Inis Irene Roe Tipton, four sisters and five brothers.
She is survived by her daughter, Blanche Clem Taylor, Anniston, Alabama; two granddaughters, Lynn Marie Wood of Anniston and Candace Ellen Hall Brunk of Lexington; six sisters: Louise Arvin, Martha Stapleton, Lucy Fender, Maggie Hafley, Helen Boling, and Nannie Mason; a sister-in-law, Opal Witt; several nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and three special friends: Ann Tipton, Doris Woods and Pamela Watts.
Services were held at Lewis-Abner Home for Funerals, 224 Main Street, Irvine, on Saturday, November 17, at 10:30 a.m. for family viewing; 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon for visitation; with the service at 12:00 Noon with Bro. Scott Rogers officiating. Burial was in the Larrison Cemetery on Spout Springs Road in Irvine.
Honorary pallbearers were James Cecil Witt, Jerry Flynn, Troy Mason, Michael Adams, Daniel Arvin, Roger Arvin, Micheal Arvin, Dwight Arvin and Dean Arvin.
Pallbearers were James Gregory Witt, Austin Witt, Andrew Witt, Lonnie Lee Clem, Seth Ellis and David Arvin.
