    Clifford Ballard, age 36, of Clay City, Kentucky, passed away Friday, April 12, 2019.
    He was born in Irvine, October 29, 1982, to William and Nellie Ballard. He was a construction worker.
    Mr. Ballard is survived by his mother, Nellie Ballard of Stanton; a son, William Ballard of Clay City; a daughter, Sophia Ballard of Irvine; three brothers: Linville Ballard of Lexington, Fred Ballard and Garland Ballard, both of Winchester; and five sisters: Callie Ballard of Winchester, Christina Ballard of Clay City, Linda Ballard, Martha Chandler, both of Georgetown; and Bonnie Hacker (Kevin) of Lexington.
    He was preceded in death by his father, William Ballard.
    Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 18, 2019 at the Grayson Funeral Home Chapel, 201 7th Avenue, in Clay City with Bro. Sammy Faulkner officiating. Friends may visit Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Gray Cemetery in Estill County.

    Brooklyn Nicole Fox, age 18, of Church House Hill Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, April 12, 2019.
    She was born November 20, 2000, in Madison County and was the daughter of George Fox and the late Jennifer Newton Fox. She was an Estill County High School senior and a member of the Crooked Creek Christian Church. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Survivors, in addition to her father, include her grandparents: Vicky Newton and Glen Newton, both of Estill County; one sister, Haley Fox, Estill County; and one brother, Jaren Newton, Estill County.
    Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 18, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Tom Blackburn. Burial will be at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends may call between 6 and 9 p.m., Wednesday, April 17th at the funeral home.

James Zachary Garrett

    James Zachary Garrett, born May 27, 1986, precious son of Richard and Joyce Garrett and beloved brother of Brooke Albright (Tim) and Brian Garrett (Mary), passed away suddenly on Friday, April 12, 2019 at the age of 32.
    He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Leon and Dorothy Garrett.
    Mr. Garrett is survived by his nieces and nephew: Morgan, Ashton, Sydney and Jaden Garrett and Jaxon and Ella Albright. He is also survived by his grandmother, Charlotte Nail (Cliff). He is loved by many friends that will miss his smile and big hugs.
    Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, April 16, 7:30 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home by Bro. John Anderson and Bro. Tom Bonny.     Janie Ruth Sparks, age 84, of Elliston Road in Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Friday, April 12, 2019, at her home following a long illness.
    She was born July 18, 1934 in Lee County and was the daughter of the late Sherman Barrett and Nannie Jones Barrett Dozier. She was a homemaker and a member of the Waco Pentecostal Tabernacle. She had lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Mrs. Sparks is survived by her husband, Sidney Sparks Sr.; six daughters: Delores Riddell, Irvine; Naomi Gabbard, Mt. Vernon; Wanda Murphy, Thelma Brinegar, both of Irvine; Charlene Brinegar, Berea; and Marsha Sparks, Richmond; five sons: Sidney Sparks Jr., Richmond; Linville Ray Sparks, Berea; Ronnie Sparks, Richmond; Kenneth Sparks, Waco; and Franklin Sparks, Mt. Vernon; one sister, Eva Collins, Irvine; 21 grandchildren, 50, great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Faye Sparks; and one son, Otis Wayne Sparks; three sisters: Blanche Sparks, Liza Barrett, and Ruby Sparks; and four brothers: John, Claude, Charlie and Lester Barrett; and one stepsister, Lillie Mae Luster.

Wanda Loe Thacker, 66

    Wanda Loe Thacker, wife of Allen Thacker of Beattyville, Kentucky, and the daughter of the late Monroe and Clara Newton Stamper was born in Lee County, Kentucky on June 16, 1952 and departed this life in Beattyville on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the age of 66 years, 9 months, and 26 days. She was a member of the Beattyville First Church of God and a former seamstress for Carhart.
    In addition to her husband Allen, Wanda is survived by three children, Tresa Bowman (Robbie), Tiffany Ratliff (Jonathan), and Allen Thacker Jr. and girlfriend Amanda; seven grandchildren, Jordan Bowman (Tracey), Noah and Nicholas Bowman, Peri Thacker, and Alethia, Persephone, and Antigone Ratliff; two sisters, Lois Jean Flinchum and Barbara McIntosh, both of Beattyville; two brothers: Raleigh Newton of Irvine, and Herman Newton of Beattyville; and a host of other relatives and friends.
    Visitation will be held Monday, April 15, 2019, 12:00 Noon until 2:00 p.m. at Newnam Funeral Home Chapel, 108 Center Street, Beattyville, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Garett Thomas officiating. Burial will be at the Horn Cemetery at Old Landing.

    Thelma Louise Neal, age 89, of Joe Poore Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Mount Sterling, following a long illness.
    She was born October 10, 1929 in Goshen, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Hays and Hazel McKinney Vanlandingham. She was a homemaker and had lived in Estill County for the past 20 years.
    Mrs. Neal was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Neal.
    She is survived by three sons: Robert Brunner (Misty), Beaver Creek, Ohio; Rick Brunner (Betsy), Vandalia, Ohio; and Randy Brunner, Dayton, Ohio; three stepsons: Ron Neal Sr., Estill County; Steven Neal, Dayton, Ohio; and Timothy Neal, Piqua, Ohio; four sisters: Ruth Hughes, Wanda Shaw, Delores Berard and Carol Vanlandingham; two brothers: Robert and James Vanlandingham; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren: Melissa Kay Neal and Ronald Neal Jr.
    Mrs. Neal was preceded in death by one sister, Grace Lowder; and three brothers: Eugene, Lewis and Kenneth Vanlandingham.

    Michael B. “Beasley” Tipton, age 69, of Tipton Ridge Road in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at his home.
    He was born February 5, 1950 in Estill County and was the son of the late Alvin Dudley and Hazel Walters Tipton. He served in the United States Air Force. He was a retired electrician and former teacher at the Estill County Middle School. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church and had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Tipton is survived by two sisters: Rebecca Bishop and Jessie Puckett, both of Ravenna; one brother, Tyrone Tipton, Kannapolis, North Carolina; four nieces: Kim Gould, Tammy Tucker, Pamela Jones and Libby Puckett; one nephew, Terry Puckett; six great nieces: Marlee Isaacs, Arianna Tucker, Chelsea Parker, Caroline Josey and Kyleigh Puckett; four great nephews: Noah Isaacs, Brandon Tipton, Justin Tipton and Liam Puckett; two great, great nieces: Eden Parker and Veda Josey; and two great, great nephews: Levi Parker and Isaac Tipton. He was preceded in death by 1 brother-in-law, Bobby Puckett, 1 sister-in-law, Deloris Tipton and 1 nephew, James Alvin Tipton.

James Bobby Walling, 78

    James Bobby Walling, age 78, of Campbells Branch Road in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at his home following a sudden illness.
    He was born December 4, 1940 in Estill County and was the son of the late William and Evalina Keith Walling. He was a retired truck driver and a former member of the Fitchburg Masonic Lodge. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Walling was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Nell Tipton Walling.
    He is survived by three daughters: Virginia Long, Rebecca Canter (David), and Esther McKinney (Sam), all of Estill County; one son, James David Walling, Estill County; one sister, Freda Jean Watson, Estill County; one brother, Lindsey Clinton Walling, Florida; four grandchildren: Jennifer Pingleton, Wesley Canter, Brianne McKinney and Martin McKinney; and five great grandchildren: Alex Pingleton, J.W. Canter, Christopher Canter, Camille Spencer, and Eli McKinney.
    He was preceded in death by one brother, Ernest C. Walling.

    Jewel Dean Cole Sons, age 83, of Walling Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, April 8, 2019, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a short illness.
    She was born December 7, 1935 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Burton Estill and Alice Rader Cole. She was a homemaker and a member of the White Oak Church of God where she active in the Ladies Home Mission. She was also a former member of the Eastern Star.
    Mrs. Sons is survived by her husband of 65 years, James William Sons; one daughter, Lisa Gail Sons (Cathy), Madison County; three sons: Larry William Sons (Donna), Barry William Sons (Donalda), and Steve Sons (Gloria), all of Estill County; three sisters: Ruby Reagan, Tennessee; Wanda Ingram, Lawrenceburg; and Sue Mainous, Estill County; a brother-in-law, Howard “Tootie” Stevens, Florida; five grandchildren: Jennifer Richardson, Brittany Hunt, Christopher Sons, Steven Tyler Sons and Miranda Dowdy; and ten great grandchildren: Hannah Turner, Trey Richardson III, Hailey Richardson, Carlie Sons, Marley Hunt, Josie Hunt, Colbi Sons, Tripp Hunt, Cash Sons and Logan Richardson.
    She was preceded in death by one sister, Nettie Jo Stevens; and two brothers: Burton Estill Cole Jr. and James Wayne Cole.

Dr. Charles E. Terry

    Dr. Charles E. Terry, age 80, was born January 21, 1939 in Jackson, Kentucky, and died Sunday, April 7, 2019. He was the son of Omeda Terry, teacher and Kentucky Mother of the Year, and Elmer J. Terry, teacher and Kentucky State Representative. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
    Dr. Terry moved his family to Irvine, in 1966 where he opened Estill Medical Clinic along with his partner, Dr. Virginia Wallace. For 45 years, Dr. Terry tirelessly dedicated his services to his friends, the people of Estill County. He was one of the first doctors to practice at the Estill County Hospital and served as Medical Officer with the Kentucky National Guard. He was active in local politics, worked diligently to restrict the dumping of toxic waste in the local landfill and always encouraged and exemplified healthy living.
    Dr. Terry and his family were members of the Wisemantown Methodist Church.
    He was preceded in death by his son, Mark; his daughter, Tracy; and three siblings, Jim Terry, Mary Ellen Little and Betty Martin.
    Dr. Terry is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 61 years, Brenda Napier Terry; and three granddaughters, Jennifer, Sarah and Allie; and a sister Chris Wright of Richmond. He is also survived by his nephews, Todd Childers, Mike Childers, Luke Wright; and nieces, Rae Wright and Lorah Shakelford.
    Visitation will be Saturday April 13, 2019 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at First Christian Church on Main Street, Irvine, with the service at 4 p.m. A private burial will follow at Mountain Memorial Cemetery.

    Linville O’Hair Jr., age 59 of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away at his residence, Saturday, April 6, 2019.
    He was born in Campton, April 2, 1960 to Linville Sr. and Betty Haggard O’Hair. He was a retired contractor.
    Mr. O'Hair is survived by his wife, Kim O’Hair of Richmond; a daughter, Natasha O’Hair and her husband Jeff Knox of Clay City; two stepdaughters: Amanda Thomas of London, Kentucky; and Kayland VanBrue of Oklahoma; four grandchildren, a stepbrother, Wayne Howard of Clay City; and a sister, LibbyJo Bowman of Ravenna.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Linville Sr. and Betty O’Hair; and a brother, John O’Hair.

Jackie Gayle Miller

    Jackie Gayle Miller, age 61 of Paint Lick, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 4, 2019 at the Markey Cancer Center in Lexington.
    He was born in Madison County on December 17, 1957, the son of Blanche Rison Miller and the late Floyd Miller. He grew up in Pryse, Kentucky, and was employed by CSX Railroad for 17 years. He later went on to work in excavation for another 17 years. He was an avid Nascar and John Deere fan. His children and grandchildren were the joys of his life.
    Mr. Miller is survived by his wife of 41 years, Alesia Dennis Miller; his mother, Blanche Miller of Irvine; two sons: Chad Miller (Jennifer) of Richmond and Nick Miller (Bobbi Jo) of Berea; one daughter, Amy Rapier (Ralph) of Paint Lick; two brothers: Earl Miller (Carolyn) of Lancaster and Tony Miller (Lisa) of Irvine; one sister, Lou Ann Hall (Darrell) of Irvine; his mother- and father-in-law, Ruby and Earl Dennis of Richmond; nine grandchildren: Wesley Marcum, Wyatt Marcum, Walker Marcum, Austin Miller, Elizabeth Miller, Landon Miller, Zachary Miller, Warren Rapier, and Peyton Miller; as well as several nieces and nephews.
    In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Jacob Wilder Rapier.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street, Richmond, with Dr. Jerry Huffman and Bro.     Maynard Cole, Jr., age 78, of 8th Street in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at the Irvine Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
    He was born April 9, 1940 in Madison County and was the son of the late Maynard and Rhoda Clouse Cole. He was a retired truck driver with World Wide Trucking and a member of the Salem Christian Church. He was a United States Army veteran.
    Mr. Cole was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Cockrell Cole.
    He is survived by one daughter, Connie Arthur (Rick), Ravenna; one son, Clinton Cole (Sherri), Irvine; one sister, Rosalee Lawson, Richmond; one brother, Tom Cole, Richmond; four grandchildren: Melissa, Jennifer, Tabitha, and Jared; and 10 great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by one sister, Edith Travis; and three brothers: Ed, Alfred and Bud Cole.

    She was born January 30, 1947 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Harvey and Gracie Lee Gray Gilbert. She was a homemaker and member of the Turning Point Apostolic Church. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Mrs. McKinney was preceded in death by her husband, Claude McKinney.
    She is survived by three daughters: Wanda Watson, Gracie Lee Henry, and Tamara Lynn Isaacs; two sons: Ronald Glynn McKinney and Joey Allen McKinney; four sisters: Mattie Winkler, Wanda Young, Ida Mae Wumbles, and Emmaline McIntosh; one brother, Buell Gilbert; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
    Mrs. McKinney was preceded in death by two sisters: Dovie Lynch and Henrietta Lynch; and three brothers: Scotty, Danny and Charles Gilbert.

    Steven Dewey McDowell, 37, son of Thomas McDowell, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2019.
    He was a native of Estill County, born March 2, 1982, a son of Thomas McDowell, and the late Nancy Hall McDowell. He was a mechanic.
    Mr. McDowell was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas McDowell; and a nephew, Logan McDowell.

    Julia Green Tipton Randall, 79, passed away Friday, March 29, 2019 at Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, Kentucky, after a long illness.
    She was a native of Estill County, born February 26, 1940, a daughter of the late Oliver Lee and Myrtie Neal Tipton. She was a farmer and a homemaker.
    Mrs. Randall was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Crawford.
    Survivors include her son, Ronald Crawford; her daughters Carol Sue Randall, Sandy Crawford, and Leona McGuire; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
    Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 6th at Lewis-Abner Home for Funerals. Burial will follow in the Moberly Cemetery. Friends may call from 12:00 Noon until service time, Friday, at the funeral home.
