Wilgus “Wigg” Wolfinbarger

    Wilgus “Wigg” Wolfinbarger, age 76, of Coral Avenue in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2019, at his home following a long illness.
    He was born December 16, 1942 in Estill County and was the son of the late Cecil Thomas and Margaret McIntosh Wolfinbarger. He was a former employee of the Bluegrass Army Depot in Lexington and was the owner of Wigg’s Chevron. He was a member and Deacon of the Cow Creek Baptist Church and had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Wolfinbarger is survived by his wife, Judy Carol Tipton Wolfinbarger; two daughters: Kim Harrison (Gene), Madison County; and Kristi Crowe (Brian), Estill County; his God Daughter, Staci Puckett (Eric); one sister, Cecilia Howe (Ralph), Estill County; one brother: Paul Wolfinbarger (Jackie), Tennessee; six grandchildren: Corey Harrison, Blake Crowe (Jordyn), Tanner Crowe, Ellen Harrison Burke, Randy Harrison and Shallee Puckett; two great grandchildren: Braxton Crowe and Meghan West; one great, great grandchild, Haze West; his nieces and nephews that he called his babies; and his friends that he adored from way back and still loved each of them until his last breath.
    Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 24, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Joe Lahrmer and Bro. Chris Green. Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call between 6 and 9 p.m., Tuesday, April 23rd at the funeral home.

    Mary Ruth Chaney Howell, age 86, widow of Warren E. Howell, died Wednesday, April 17, 2019.
    A native of Estill County, Kentucky, she was born February 28, 1933, the daughter of the late Steve and Eliza Walters Chaney. Mary was a quality engineer with General Electric.
    Survivors include three children, Jeff Howell (Barb), Steve Howell and Barbie Lunsford (Barry); five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister, Gay Goforth; and one brother, Hubert Chaney.
    Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 463 East Main Street, Lexington, with burial to follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Monday, April 22nd at the funeral home.

Modenna Reece Stamper Turner, 84

    Modenna Reece Stamper Turner, widow of Odell Stamper and Arthur Turner and the daughter of the late George and Roxie Estes Reece, was born in Lee County, May 8, 1934, and departed this life at her home in Beattyville, Kentucky on Wednesday, April, 17, 2019 at the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 9 days. She was a homemaker and a member of the Cressmont Baptist Church.
    She is survived by three sons: George Stamper (Helen) of Winchester, Chester Stamper of Beattyville, and Homer Stamper (Melissa) of Frankfort; one daughter, Reva Rogers (Bo) of Beattyville; a daughter-in-law, Anita Stamper of Beattyville; one step-son, Roger Turner (Melissa) of Beattyville; three step-daughters: Joyce Thomas (Tony), Fay Cockerham (Don), both of Irvine; and Brenda Dale of Paris, Kentucky; three sisters: Gladys Allen, Deloris Rosale, both of Lake City, Florida; and Becky Hunley of Cidney, Ohio; one brother, George Reece Jr.; a host of grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends.
    In addition to her two husbands and her parents, Modenna was preceded in death by one daughter, Francis Stamper; one son, Johnny Stamper; one grandson, James Odell Stamper; three brothers, Walter Reece of Independence, James Reece of Hebron, and Ernest Reece of Yellow Rock; four sisters, Bernice Mays of Irvine, Shirley Cummins of Berry, Ramey Sparks of Beattyville, and Glendean Tirey of Winchester.
    Visitation will be held Monday, April 22, 2019, 6-9 p.m. at Newnam Funeral Home Chapel, 108 Center Street, Beattyville. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 23rd at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Beatty Place Cemetery on New Yellow Rock Road in Beattyville.

    Jewell Dean Fike, age 78, of Driftwood Drive in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
    She was born December 20, 1940 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Elwood and Ruth Sparks Messer. She was a homemaker and had lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Mrs. Fike was preceded in death by her husband, Price Fike.
    She is survived by two daughters: Virginia Sharp (David Crouch) and Kathy Walters (Robbie), both of Irvine; three grandchildren: Anthony Muncie, David A. Spivey (Christa Mosley), and Rondene Plowman; and two great rrandchildren: Autumn McKenzie and Bri Henry.
    Mrs. Fike was preceded in death by her sister, Ilene Cox; and two brothers, Wayne and Arnold Messer.

    Geneva H. Jenkins, age 89, of McSwain Branch Road in Irvine, passed away Monday, April 15, 2019, at her home following a long illness.
    She was born April 9, 1930 in Jackson County and was the daughter of the late Albert and Bendi Skinner Harrison. She was a homemaker and a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed taking long walks and working in her flowers. She had lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Mrs. Jenkins was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Jenkins. She will be dearly missed.
    She is survived by one daughter: Rene Bicknell (Gary), Irvine; two grandchildren: Amy Denise Bicknell and Gary Lynn Bicknell; one great grandchild, Leslie Rene Bicknell; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by two children, Carolyn Sue Jenkins and Terry Lynn Jenkins; and one grandchild, Christopher Lee.

Anna Genevieve Gould

    Anna Genevieve Gould, age 79, of North Court Street in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2019, at the Madison Health & Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, following a long illness.
    She was born December 17, 1939 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Millard and Daisy Webb Flynn. She was the owner of Gould’s Fashions and a member of the First Christian Church. She had lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Mrs. Gould was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Elwood Gould.
    She is survived by one daughter, Rhonda Michelle Mitchell (Forest Gene, Jr.), Shreveport, Louisiana; one son, Eric Todd Gould (Trish), Irvine; four grandchildren: Jordan Wade Mitchell, Tyler Clay Mitchell, Eric Blake Gould and Nathan Oliver Gould; and one great grandchild, Forest Dean Mitchell.
    Mrs. Gould was preceded in death by her sister, Vida Flynn Cox; and her brother, Alva Glendon “A.G.” Flynn.

    Bonnie Jean Walden, age 66, of Sombrero Drive in Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2019, at the Baptist Health Hospital in Richmond following a short illness.
    She was born March 12, 1953 in Lee County and was the daughter of the late Lucien and Nannie Stamper Thacker. She was a retired employee of Eastern Kentucky University and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
    Mrs. Walden is survived by her husband, Robert Floyd Walden; one daughter, Melissa Ann Murphy (Larry Floyd), Estill County; four sisters, Irene Shuler, Estill County; Lillie Benton (Don), Lee County; Ruby Benton (Ronald), and Nellie Estes (Lloyd), both of Estill County; her grandchild and the love of her life, Cody Floyd; and Shana Cox, whom she loved like a daughter.
    She was preceded in death by one sister, Eunis Thacker; and four brothers: Ellis Wayne, Ray, Willard and Carl Thacker.

    Clifford Ballard, age 36, of Clay City, Kentucky, passed away Friday, April 12, 2019.
    He was born in Irvine, October 29, 1982, to William and Nellie Ballard. He was a construction worker.
    Mr. Ballard is survived by his mother, Nellie Ballard of Stanton; a son, William Ballard of Clay City; a daughter, Sophia Ballard of Irvine; three brothers: Linville Ballard of Lexington, Fred Ballard and Garland Ballard, both of Winchester; and five sisters: Callie Ballard of Winchester, Christina Ballard of Clay City, Linda Ballard, Martha Chandler, both of Georgetown; and Bonnie Hacker (Kevin) of Lexington.
    He was preceded in death by his father, William Ballard.
    Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 18, 2019 at the Grayson Funeral Home Chapel, 201 7th Avenue, in Clay City with Bro. Sammy Faulkner officiating. Brooklyn Nicole Fox

    Brooklyn “Brook” Nicole Fox passed away Friday, April 12, 2019. She was born November 20, 2000 and was 18 years old. Brook was a senior at Estill County High School. Where she had been a member of the Junior ROTC and Creative Writing Club. She will be remembered most for her creativity through writing and her drawings along with a great sense of humor and her love for Star Trek. She was a member of the Crooked Creek Christian Church.
    Brook is survived by her dad, George Thomas Fox, her twin sister, Haley, and brother, Jaren Newton.
    She is preceded in death by her mother, Jennifer Newton Fox.
    Brook is survived by her maternal grandparents, Glen and Vickie (Davis) Newton and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
    Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 17, from 6 to 9 pm at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home in Irvine. Brother Tom Blackburn will conduct the funeral service Thursday, April 18 at 1 p.m. Interment will be in West Irvine Cemetery.
    Pallbearers will be Michael Geiger, T.J. Harrison, Kyle Wilson, Jason Newton, Sammy Tipton and Travis Luster.

James Zachary Garrett

    James Zachary Garrett, born May 27, 1986, precious son of Richard and Joyce Garrett and beloved brother of Brooke Albright (Tim) and Brian Garrett (Mary), passed away suddenly on Friday, April 12, 2019 at the age of 32.
    He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Leon and Dorothy Garrett.
    Mr. Garrett is survived by his nieces and nephew: Morgan, Ashton, Sydney and Jaden Garrett and Jaxon and Ella Albright. He is also survived by his grandmother, Charlotte Nail (Cliff). He is loved by many friends that will miss his smile and big hugs.

Vernon; Wanda Murphy, Thelma Brinegar, both of Irvine; Charlene Brinegar, Berea; and Marsha Sparks, Richmond; five sons: Sidney Sparks Jr., Richmond; Linville Ray Sparks, Berea; Ronnie Sparks, Richmond; Kenneth Sparks, Waco; and Franklin Sparks, Mt.     Wanda Loe Thacker, wife of Allen Thacker of Beattyville, Kentucky, and the daughter of the late Monroe and Clara Newton Stamper was born in Lee County, Kentucky on June 16, 1952 and departed this life in Beattyville on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the age of 66 years, 9 months, and 26 days. She was a member of the Beattyville First Church of God and a former seamstress for Carhart.
    In addition to her husband Allen, Wanda is survived by three children, Tresa Bowman (Robbie), Tiffany Ratliff (Jonathan), and Allen Thacker Jr. and girlfriend Amanda; seven grandchildren, Jordan Bowman (Tracey), Noah and Nicholas Bowman, Peri Thacker, and Alethia, Persephone, and Antigone Ratliff; two sisters, Lois Jean Flinchum and Barbara McIntosh, both of Beattyville; two brothers: Raleigh Newton of Irvine, and Herman Newton of Beattyville; and a host of other relatives and friends.

    She was born October 10, 1929 in Goshen, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Hays and Hazel McKinney Vanlandingham. She was a homemaker and had lived in Estill County for the past 20 years.
    Mrs. Neal was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Neal.
    She is survived by three sons: Robert Brunner (Misty), Beaver Creek, Ohio; Rick Brunner (Betsy), Vandalia, Ohio; and Randy Brunner, Dayton, Ohio; three stepsons: Ron Neal Sr., Estill County; Steven Neal, Dayton, Ohio; and Timothy Neal, Piqua, Ohio; four sisters: Ruth Hughes, Wanda Shaw, Delores Berard and Carol Vanlandingham; two brothers: Robert and James Vanlandingham; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren: Melissa Kay Neal and Ronald Neal Jr.

    Michael B. “Beasley” Tipton, age 69, of Tipton Ridge Road in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at his home.
    He was born February 5, 1950 in Estill County and was the son of the late Alvin Dudley and Hazel Walters Tipton. He served in the United States Air Force. He was a retired electrician and former teacher at the Estill County Middle School. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church and had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Tipton is survived by two sisters: Rebecca Bishop and Jessie Puckett, both of Ravenna; one brother, Tyrone Tipton, Kannapolis, North Carolina; four nieces: Kim Gould, Tammy Tucker, Pamela Jones and Libby Puckett; one nephew, Terry Puckett; six great nieces: Marlee Isaacs, Arianna Tucker, Chelsea Parker, Caroline Josey and Kyleigh Puckett; four great nephews: Noah Isaacs, Brandon Tipton, Justin Tipton and Liam Puckett; two great, great nieces: Eden Parker and Veda Josey; and two great, great nephews: Levi Parker and Isaac Tipton.
    He was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Bobby Puckett, one sister-in-law, Deloris Tipton and one nephew, James Alvin Tipton.

    James Bobby Walling, age 78, of Campbells Branch Road in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at his home following a sudden illness.
    He was born December 4, 1940 in Estill County and was the son of the late William and Evalina Keith Walling. He was a retired truck driver and a former member of the Fitchburg Masonic Lodge. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Walling was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Nell Tipton Walling.
    He is survived by three daughters: Virginia Long, Rebecca Canter (David), and Esther McKinney (Sam), all of Estill County; one son, James David Walling, Estill County; one sister, Freda Jean Watson, Estill County; one brother, Lindsey Clinton Walling, Florida; four grandchildren: Jennifer Pingleton, Wesley Canter, Brianne McKinney and Martin McKinney; and five great grandchildren: Alex Pingleton, J.W.     She was born December 7, 1935 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Burton Estill and Alice Rader Cole. She was a homemaker and a member of the White Oak Church of God where she active in the Ladies Home Mission. She was also a former member of the Eastern Star.
    Mrs. Sons is survived by her husband of 65 years, James William Sons; one daughter, Lisa Gail Sons (Cathy), Madison County; three sons: Larry William Sons (Donna), Barry William Sons (Donalda), and Steve Sons (Gloria), all of Estill County; three sisters: Ruby Reagan, Tennessee; Wanda Ingram, Lawrenceburg; and Sue Mainous, Estill County; a brother-in-law, Howard “Tootie” Stevens, Florida; five grandchildren: Jennifer Richardson, Brittany Hunt, Christopher Sons, Steven Tyler Sons and Miranda Dowdy; and ten great grandchildren: Hannah Turner, Trey Richardson III, Hailey Richardson, Carlie Sons, Marley Hunt, Josie Hunt, Colbi Sons, Tripp Hunt, Cash Sons and Logan Richardson.
