Kenneth Ray Rison

    Kenneth Ray Rison, age 72, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2019 at his residence.
    He was born February 9, 1947 in Irvine, Kentucky, to the late Samuel "Buck" Rison and Galena Watson Rison. Kenneth was a fun-loving, nurturing husband and father. He was a simple man with a great personality and good sense of humor. He loved to make others laugh and enjoyed every day. He was a long-time Lions Club member and a member of the Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Owingsville First Church of God and the Northside Church of God. Kenneth was also a former small business owner. He coached youth sports, church softball and was an avid sports fan. He was greatly loved by his daughters and grandchildren. His fun-loving personality and smile will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
    Mr. Rison is survived by his daughters, Robyn Chapman (Derek) of Proctorville, Ohio; and Jennifer Sexton (Jason) of Fort Thomas, Kentucky; one sister, Anna Wysong of Dayton, Ohio; four grandchildren, Jack Chapman, Max Chapman, Jadon Bargo and Christian Sexton; and special friends, Gracie Lucas and Larry and Susan Hamlin.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Carole Terry Rison; four brothers, Estill Rison, James Rison, Bobby Rison and Leslie Rison; and one sister, Naomi Tipton.
    Visitation will be Tuesday, May 28, 2019, from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Richardson Funeral Home, 121 East Main Street, Owingsville. Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 29th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with burial following in the Owingsville Cemetery. Reverend Lowell Rice and Reverend Kenny Crouch will be officiating.

Geraldine Chaney Tipton

    Geraldine Chaney Tipton, 91, of Brookville, Ohio; passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2019.
    She was born August 31, 1927 in Estill County, Kentucky, and was retired from Leland Electric.
    Mrs. Tipton is survived by her children: Dovey Kindred, Brenda Hutzel, both of Union, Ohio; Bill Tipton of Dayton, Ohio; and Jean Vance (Kenny) of Eaton, Ohio; four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, four great, great grandchildren; one brother: Algin Chanie (Leda) of Maryland; one sister: Viola Watson (Audra) of Trotwood, Ohio; and very special friend, Judy Love.
    She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Bevlie Tipton; one daughter, Beverly Alice; and parents, Melvin and Dovey Chaney.
    Per Geraldine’s wishes, burial will be private at Trissel Cemetery in New Lebanon, Ohio.

    Sandra Lynn Herald, age 62, of Meadowlark Road in Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Friday, May 24, 2019, at the Compassionate Care Center.
    She was born March 6, 1957 in Spencer, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Commadore and Eloise Marie Argabrite Blosser. She was a former employee of the St. Joseph Hospital.
    Mrs. Herald was preceded in death by her husband, William Herald.
    She is survived by her son, William Cody Herald and girlfriend, Elizabeth Walton, of Irvine; one grandchild, Alexander Creed Herald; five sisters: Linda Miller, Pamela Blosser, Elizabeth Seabolt, Anita Simms, andf Teresa Blosser; and four brothers: Michael Blosser, Stoney Blosser, Bryant Blosser, and Anthony Blosser.
    She was preceded in death by one sister, Tamra Pickens.
    Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 27, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home. Burial will be at the South Irvine Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

    Elizabeth Lou Willis, age 71, of Jenkins Branch Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital.
    She was born February 18, 1948 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Stanley and Ruth Ann Bingham Jenkins. She was a retired teachers aide with the Estill County School System and a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Mrs. Willis is survived by her husband, Harold Willis; one son, Jeff Jenkins (Betty), Irvine; one sister, Viola Babb, Irvine; one brother, Robert Jenkins, Nicholasville; four grandchildren: Connor Jenkins, James Mullins, Kari Mullins and Steven Rose; and one great grandchild, Jackson Mullins.
    She was preceded in death by one sister, Pearl Johnson; and four brothers: Raymond, Tracy, James and Douglas Jenkins.
    Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 28, 11:00 a.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Jason Brooks. Burial will be at the Tackett Cemetery. Friends may call between 6 and 9 p.m., Monday, May 27th at the funeral home.

    Lila Sparks was born May 12, 1938 in Jackson County and departed this life Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at her residence in London, Kentucky, being 81 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Chester and Dora Brewer Davidson.
    She is survived by her husband, Dan Sparks of London; by her children, Daniel Kerby Jr. of Crab Orchard, Cecil Kerby of Berea, David Kerby (Reba) of McKee, Randall Kerby (Jessica) of Berea, Terry Kerby (Goldie Mae) of Berea, Margie Evans (Larry) of Tyner, Diana Simpson (Jeff) of McKee and Perry Kerby (Janet) of Paint Lick; and by the following step children, James Sparks (Brenda) of McKee, Jesse Sparks of Georgetown, Charlie Sparks (Marie) of McKee, Danny Sparks (Sherry) of Richmond, Indiana; Nancy Bowling (James) of Louisville and Mary Gabbard of Irvine. Lila was blessed with a host of grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren and host of great, great grandchildren.
    In addition to her parents, Lila was preceded in death by her daughter, Ester Baker; and by her siblings, William, Rudolph, Cecil, Luther, Ruth, Lizzie, Aida, Suda and Teen.

    Dwight Edward Arvin, age 75, of South Irvine Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at the Marcum and Wallace Hospital following a long illness.
    He was born June 7, 1943 in Estill County to the late Elbert Ray Arvin and Lyda Mildred Walton Arvin. He was a retired farmer and served as the Estill County Judge Executive for two terms. He was a member of the O.D. Henderson Masonic Lodge and a member of the Crooked Creek Christian Church. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Arvin is preceded in death by his wife, Diane Smithers Arvin.
    He is survived by two daughters: Jackie Thacker and Kyle McIntosh (Randy), both of Estill County; two sons: Buddy Arvin (Charlotte) and John Arvin, both of Estill County; one sister, Janet Sue Smith (Robert), Estill County; one brother, Donnie Arvin, Estill County; eight grandchildren: Meghan Arvin Mills (Jimmy), Tessla Arvin Dixon (Clinton), Lyda Rae Arvin, Pauline Thacker, Katie Thacker, JP Thacker, Elijah McIntosh and Kyran McIntosh; and four great grandchildren: Jace Mills, Rocky Mills, Heidi Dixon and Beau Dixon.
    He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Elizabeth Faye Arvin; one son, Dwight Dale Arvin; and one brother, Buddy Gene Arvin.
    Funeral services were conducted Friday, May 24, 7:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Tom Blackburn. Friends called between 5-7 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial was in the Winkler Cemetery.

J.B. Brandenburg, 92

    J.B. Brandenburg, widower of Myrtle Lorene Cole Brandenburg and the son of the late Walker and Edna Charles Brandenburg was born in Lee County, Kentucky on June 5, 1926 and departed this life in Beattyville, Kentucky on May 21, 2019 at the age of 92 years, 11 months, and 16 days. He was a farmer and attended the Church of Living God.
    J.B. is survived by three grandchildren, Hobert Bradley Brandenburg, William Scott Brandenburg and wife Kim Sizemore, all of Irvine; and Elizabeth Ann Brandenburg and husband Cordell Cowdrey of Inverness, Florida; three great grandchildren, Isabella and Hannah Brandenburg and Bentley Cowdrey; two stepchildren, Wallace Mays of Irvine and Inadell Jewell of Beattyville; five step-grandchildren, Glenn Mays, Ronald Mays, Chasity Fox, Nathaniel Marshall, and Sarah Marshall; several step-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
    In addition to his wife and parents, J.B. is preceded in death by two sons, Hobert and Herman Brandenburg; one step granddaughter, Tammy Napier; four brothers, Frank, Willie Martin, Lorie, and Howell Brandenburg; and two sisters, Kathleen Slone and Thelma Brandenburg.
    Visitation was held Thursday, May 23, 6-8 p.m., at Newnam Funeral Home Chapel, 108 Center Street in Beattyville. Funeral services were at 1 p.m., Friday, May 24th, conducted by Bro. Freddie Durbin at the funeral home. Burial was in the Johnson Cemetery on Sand Gap Road in Irvine.

    Ronnie Eldridge Barker, age 74, of Richmond Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019, at the Madison Health & Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
    He was born August 30, 1944 in Estill County and was the son of the late Moss and Mossie Isaacs Barker. He was a retired Eastern Kentucky University employee and had lived in Madison County most of his life.
    Mr. Barker is survived by two sisters: Drucilla Muncie and Betty Hymer, both of Irvine; and one brother, Earl Barker, Oklahoma.
    He was preceded in death by two sisters: Treva Winkler and Barbara White; and one brother, Tracy Barker.

    Mary Elizabeth Vaughn, age 90, of Red River Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2019, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a long illness.
    She was born April 9, 1929 in Pryse, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Harry and Ruth Stamper Mitchell. She was a retired from the Irvine Health and Rehabilitation Center where she worked as a nurses aide. She was a member of the Corinth Christian Church and had lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Mrs. Vaughn was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Vaughn Jr.
    She is survived by two grandchildren: Sandra Thorne, Texas; and David Lee Richardson, Lexington; one great grandchild, James Blake Thorne; and special friends, Brenda and Danny Neal
    Mrs. Vaughn was preceded in death by two sons: Harry Grant Richardson and Farris Lee Richardson; and one brother, Harry Mitchell.

    Juanita Bailey Muncy, age 60, wife of Terry Michael Muncy, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at her home.
    She was born in Estill County, Kentucky, on November 5, 1958, to the late Marvin V. and Garnett Moore Bailey. She was a homemaker.
    In addition to her loving husband of 25 years, she is survived by two children, Billy Hollon (LeAnna) and April Ann Taylor; two grandchildren, Alexis Hollon and Devin Xric Taylor; three siblings, Patrisha Bailey, J.R. Bailey and James Bailey; a best friend and sister by heart, Regina Smith.

Daniel Isaac Rison

    Daniel Isaac Rison, age 30, son of Bart Rison (Sue) and Allison Wolfinbarger Witt (Asa), all of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at his residence.
    He was born December 16, 1988 in Lexington, Kentucky. He graduated from Montgomery County High School in 2007 and was a member of the Mock Trial Team, was a certified Peer Support Advocate, a student studying Social Work and a former employee of Dv8 Kitchen. He had a big heart and loved to serve others. He was passionate about politics, loved to read, cook, watch high school basketball and going to football games with his Daddy and his Tuesday “dates” with his Mom. He never met a stranger and enjoyed meeting new people.
    Mr. Rison is survived by his parents, Bart Rison (Sue) of Mt. Sterling, and Allison Wolfinbarger Witt (Asa) of Mt. Sterling; three sisters, Becca Rison Chase of Sherman, Texas; Mendy Evans of Lexington, and Missy Ryder (Jeff) of Mt. Sterling; his paternal grandmother, Barbara Rison of Irvine; Uncle Phil and Aunt Paula Rison of Carmel, Indiana; and Aunt Becky Dworkin of Farmington Hills, Michigan; niece Jules Chase; cousins Lindsay, Colby, McKenzie, Sabrina and Olivia.
    Daniel was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Gloria and Gene Wolfinbarger; and his paternal grandfather, Johnny Rison.
    Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Taul Funeral Home Chapel, 109 East Main Street, Mount Sterling, with Rev. Bill Kilgore officiating, and burial following at West Irvine Cemetery. Visitation will be 11-2 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at funeral home chapel.

    Bruce Edward Barrett, age 87, of Fredmorse Drive in Austin, Texas passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at the Neuro Rehab of Texas.
    He was born August 28, 1931 in Andes, New York to the late Lewis and Carrie Davis Barrett. He was a minister and retired from the United States Air Force.
    Mr. Barrett is preceded in death by his wife, Glenna Witt Barrett.
    He is survived by one daughter, Paula Barrett, Georgia; one son, B. Edward Barrett II, Texas; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Dolores Frazier Brown

    Our beloved mother, Dolores Frazier Brown, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 into the loving arms of our heavenly father.
    She was born on January 2, 1928 in Gallup, Kentucky, to John Frazier, Sr., and Louise Shivel Frazier. She attended Gallup Elementary School from ages 4 to the age of 7. During that time, she lived with her family in an old log cabin in Gallup. At about 8 years old, and for the next several years, she moved with her family to various locations; such as Sciotoville, Ohio; Chapman, Kentucky; Martin, Kentucky; and Auxier, Kentucky; graduating early (at the age of 15) as a senior from Auxier High School. At age 17, Dolores went to cosmetology school in Paintsville, where she traveled to school each day and back by train. At age 18, she took a teaching position at Lost Creek (George’s Creek), Kentucky, which was a one room school house for grades 1st through 8th. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Herman Brown, who had just returned from the war.
    Dolores married Herman Lee Brown in Kentucky on March 22, 1947. They were married 53 years before Herman’s death in February 2000.
    She was a devout Baptist; attending church in California, Oregon and Kentucky before her health declined and she was no longer able to attend. Her children were blessed to have been raised in church, where Dolores could often be found teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, or involved wherever she was needed.
    Dolores always loved life, people, and her family. Her mother gave her the nick-name “Spitfire”. She was an avid and very competitive player of table games, the card game Rook being one of her favorites. She also enjoyed word games such as Scrabble and Upwards, and her favorite TV game show was Jeopardy. She also loved camping, fishing, and the outdoors, and in later years she particularly enjoyed fishing on her grandson’s (Ronnie and Genia’s) property.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, John Frazier Sr., and Louise Shivel Frazier; and one brother, Donald Frazier.
    Mrs. Brown is survived by her sister, Virginia Dixon of Ohio; a brother, Johnny Frazier of Florida; one son, Herman Brown (Rosemary) of Myrtle Creek, Oregon; a daughter, Linda McKinney of Irvine, a daughter Joyce McKinney (Jimmy) of Vancouver, Washington; a daughter Anita Veik (Ron) of Suthrelin, Oregon; a daughter Teresa Baird (Shane) of Sutherlin, Oregon, as well as 16 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and six great, great grandchildren.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gallup-Chapman United Methodist Church, P O Box 763, Louisa, KY 41230.

    Betty Ruth Hisle, age 84, a resident of the Irvine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center passed away Monday, May 13, 2019, at the Center following a long illness.
    She was born March 6, 1935 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Willie and Elizabeth Stepp Hisle. She was a retired Carhartt, Inc. employee and a member of the Crooked Creek Christian Church. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Ms. Hisle is survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Jean Hisle, Estill County; her niece, Starlet Hisle, Estill County; and her nephew, Paul Hisle, Laurel County.
    She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Hisle.
    Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, May 18, 10:00 a.m. at the Crooked Creek Christian Church, 1980 Crooked Creek Road, Irvine.

    Viola Aileen Byrd Bowlin, age 86, widow of the late John Leslie Bowlin, passed away Monday, May 13, 2019 at the Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, Kentuky.
    She was born October 5, 1932 in Berea, Kentucky, to the late Hugh and Cora Byrd. She was a homemaker, loved Nascar, basketball, and was of the Christian Faith.
    Other than her husband and parents, Viola was preceded in death by five brothers, Wallace Byrd, Charles Byrd, Hugh Byrd Jr., Buram Byrd, and Cecil Byrd; and four sisters, Norine Byrd Golonski, Hazel Byrd Osborne, Ada Byrd Lunsford, and Bertha Lee Byrd Kidwell.
    She is survived by three children, Rick Bowlin (Vickie) of Berea, John Bowlin Jr. (Michelle) of Irvine, and Sandra Martin (Anthony) of Richmond; four grandchildren, Dallas Austin Bowlin, Gabby Bowlin, Heather Rae Bowlin, and Niel Martin; one sister, Lois Philbeck; and sister-in-law, Marie Byrd.
    Visitation will be held 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2019, at Davis and Powell Funeral Home, LLC, 616 Chestnut Street in Berea, Kentucky, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery on Ottis Miracle Road in Mount Vernon.

    Glenn Ray Cockrell, age 61, of Dark Hollow Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a long illness.
    He was born October 3, 1957 in Dayton, Ohio and was the son of the late Jack Reed Cockrell Sr. and Louise Horn Cockrell. He was a mechanic and had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Cockrell is survived by four daughters: Renae Chips, Fayette Co. Deeann Boyd, Carol Cockrell, and Glenda Reed, all of Estill County; one son, Glenn Ray Cockrell Jr., Estill County; six sisters: Betty Anderson, Rosemary Woolery, both of Ohio; Judy Sheeks, Pamela Goosey, both of Estill County; Karen Gibbs, Ohio, and Beulah Moore, Estill County; three brothers: Charles Cockrell, Florida; Jack Reek Cockrell Jr., and Daniel Cockrell, both of Estill County; and nine grandchildren.

Dwight Newton

    Dwight Newton, age 84, passed away on May 9, 2019.
    He was born December 14, 1934 in Irvine, Kentucky, to the late Ernest and Martha Jane Henry Newton. He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired in maintenance from the University of Kentucky.
    Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Howell Newton in February 2016; and brothers: James, Ernest and Daniel Newton
    Dwight is survived by his daughters: Jacqueline Newton, Pamela Newton, Janet Lauren Sangster and Darlena Davila; grandchildren: Bridgit Christian and Nicole Sipos; great-grandchildren: Natalie Sipos, Maddox, Brody and Noah Christian; and four sisters: Cynthia Lucille Beam, Ada Tanner, Alice Johns and Carolyn Feck.
