Shirley Mae Crowe, 72

    Shirley Mae Crowe, age 72, of Henry White Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
    She was born February 1, 1947 in Madison County and was the daughter of the late Jack and Paggie Mayse Whitted. She was a homemaker and attended the New Vision Full Gospel Church. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Mrs. Crowe was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Crowe.
    She is survived by one daughter, Ronda Durham (Junior), Irvine; one son, Jack Crowe (Penny) Lexington; two stepchildren: Liz Crouch (Alfred), Irvine; and Tommy Crowe, Berea; one sister, Wanda Davis, Irvine; 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
    Mrs. Crowe was preceded in death by one son, Steven Crowe; one sister, Linda Charlton; and one brother, Wallace Whitted.
    Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 17, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Buford Powell. Burial will be at the South Irvine Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until services time at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.

Paul E. Spivey, 81

    Paul E. Spivey, 81, widower of Norma Faye Spivey, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2019 in the Ridgeway Nursing Home in Owingsville, Kentucky.
    He was born on July 29, 1937 in Madison County to the late James Leonard and Bonnie Cantor Spivey. He was a retired building contractor.
    Mr. Spivey is survived by two sons: Mike Spivey (Cheryl) of Clay City; and Rick Spivey (Ginny) of Irvine; four grandchildren: Jason Spivey (Shelly), Marshall Spivey (Tonya), Cherl Spivey and Amber Spivey; six great grandchildren, Jessica Satterwhite (Scotty), Reagan Spivey, Chandler Spivey, Ashlyn Spivey, Trinidy Clark and Aliana Clark; one great, great grandchild, Savannah Satterwhite; two brothers, Troy Spivey (Pauline) and Glen Spivey (Judy); three sisters, Audry Puckett (Frank), Laura Rose Caudill (Clay) and Nancy Basham; and one special sister-in-law, Phyllis Spivey.
    In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Gary Spivey; one brother, Ray Spivey; and three sisters, Ann Puckett, Dorthy Spivey and Naomi Harrison.
    Private memorial services will be held at a later date and burial will be in Francis Stone Graveyard

Mattie Paula Combs

    Mattie Paula Combs, age 66, widow of Darrhyl Matthew Combs, passed away Friday, July 12, 2019 at her home.
    She was born May 17, 1952 in Montgomery County to the late Almus and Ella Jean Smith Chapman.
    Survivors include, a son, Matthew Combs (Brooke), Lexington; a daughter, Kimberly Hall (Keith), Clay City; two brothers, AC Chapman and Mike Chapman; a sister, Vada Barnes; and four grandchildren: Gracie Hall, Presley Hall, Jackson Combs and Elam Combs.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Almus and Ella Jean Chapman and husband, Darrhyl Combs.
    Services will be held Monday, July 15, 2:00 p.m., Davis & Davis Funeral Home, 777 West College Avenue, Stanton by Rev. Brad Epperson. Visitation is Sunday, July 14th, 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial in Combs Cemetery, Clay City with Jay Combs, Jeff Combs, Rondal Clemons, Dean Tucker, Cory Graham, and Derrick Norton serving as pallbearers.

Thomas “Tommy” Durham, 76

    Thomas “Tommy” Durham, age 76, of Falling Branch in Waco, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a long illness.
    He was born September 1, 1942 in Estill County to the late John Durham and Mamie Turner Durham. He was a retired small engine mechanic and was a member of the Pine Hill Baptist Church. He lived in Waco for the last 32 years.
    Mr. Durham is survived by his wife, Wanda Wells Sparks Durham; one daughter, Rhonda Durham (Steve Armstrong), Georgia; two stepdaughters: Sharon Stone (James), Lexington; and Andrea Neal (Scott), Estill County; two stepsons: Frankie Sparks and Jeff Sparks (Kim, both of Estill County; two sisters: Jeanette Stepp (Ernest), Ohio; and Jewel Fox, Estill County; one brother, Dale Durham (Devonda), Estill County; two grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
    He is preceded in death by one daughter, Melissa Durham; one son, Thomas Durham Jr.; and three brothers, Fred Durham, Harold Durham, and Lavonne Durham.
    Funeral services were conducted Sunday, July 14, 2:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Wesley Miller and Bro. Jerry Rose. Burial followed in the Durham Cemetery. Friends called after Sunday from 12:00 Noon until service time at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Jesse Sparks, Travon Durham, Charlie Durham, Trent Sparks, Cory Sparks, and Taylor Hubbard.

Lillian Bowles, 93

    Lillian Bowles, age 93, of Bond Street in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
    She was born March 10, 1926 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Ollie and Mary Francis Babb Richardson. She was a retired Westinghouse employee and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She lived in Estill County all her life.
    Mrs. Bowles was preceded in death by her husband, Richard W. Bowles.
    She is survived by one brother, Donald Lee Richardson (Phyllis), Irvine; and several nieces and nephews.
    Mrs. Bowles was preceded in death by two brothers: Arnold and Sherman Richardson; and three sisters-in-law: Janet, Reva and Deloris Richardson.
    Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 12, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends called Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Michael Lynn Sparks, 69

    Michael Lynn Sparks, age 69, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2019 at his home.
    He was born on July 14, 1949 in Estill County Kentucky. Mr. Sparks was a United States Army Veteran and worked in electric services. He enjoyed reading and spending time outside in his garden.
    He is survived by: his four sons: David Sparks, Todd Sparks (Michelle), George Sparks (Sabrina) and Stephen Sparks (Liz); seven grandchildren; and a host of other extended family and friends.
    The family has selected private services.

Aaron Johnnie Arvin

    Aaron Johnnie Arvin, age 70, died suddenly at his home on Searcy Branch Road in Irvine, Kentucky, on Saturday, July 6, 2019.
    “Johnnie,” as he was known to most, was born on August 9, 1948. He was the son of Clyde Walker and Myrl Cox Arvin. Johnnie lived in Estill County most of his life.
    He was loved by many cousins and friends. Johnnie was especially close to his Uncle Dale's family who lived nearby and looked after him.
    He particularly enjoyed spending time with family at Sunday dinners and birthday parties. He was a big fan of fish fries and loved a turkey drumstick at Thanksgiving. Johnnie was a big help when there was green beans to be strung, and he loved to eat them as well.
    Johnnie also loved to play volleyball with his cousins, and he was an enthusiastic supporter of their high school teams.
    He also had a big church family at Drip Rock Baptist Church.
    Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents.
    Visitation will be on Thursday, July 1l, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Lewis-Abner Home for Funerals. The funeral service will follow immediately afterward at 3 p.m. Pastors Darrell Isaacs and Keith Carr will be officiating. Burial will be in the Sparks Cemetery, next to where Johnnie lived with his parents for many years. He will be buried beside them.

    Donnie Gene Collins, age 73, of Drowning Creek Ridge in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, July 5, 2019, at his home following a long illness.
    He was born May 19, 1946 in Estill County and was the son of the late Ernest and Irene Roberts Collins. He was a veteran of the United States Army and the National Guard. He was a retired General Motors employee and had lived in Ohio most of his life. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
    Mr. Collins is survived by one daughter, Michelle McRee, Irvine; one grandchild, Melissa Johnson (Hunter), Raleigh, North Carolina; and one great grandchild, Tripp Johnson.
    He was preceded in death by one daughter, Melissa Ann Collins; and one sister, Joann Swank.
    Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, July 10, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Scott Rogers. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Brenda Patrick, age 78, of Clay City, Kentucky passed away on July 4, 2019 at Saint Joseph Mt. Sterling Hospital.
    Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida she was the daughter of the late Frank C. Patrick and the late Ruby Abney Patrick.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert D. Patrick; two daughters: Ruby Allen and Mary Jo Asch; and two sisters: Linda Wells and Shirley Patrick.
    Brenda is survived by one son, Ronald A. Patrick (Ladonna) of Knoxville, Tennessee; one brother, David Patrick of Clay City; one sister, Edna Manis of Clay City; four grandchildren, Tippany Patrick, Brittany Allen, Eric Rogers and Ronald Allen Jr.; and four great grandchildren, Jamison Rogers, Bryleigh Allen, Evelyn Grace Allen and Hunter Allen.
    Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, July 7, 2019 at Hearne Funeral Home Inc., 125 West College Avenue, Stanton. Visitation began at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, July 6th at the funeral home. Burial was in Patrick Cemetery with Ronald Patrick, Duane Scott, William Rogers, Jr., Todd Thacker, Eric Rogers and Anthony Hawkins serving as active pallbearers.
    Honorary pallbearers were David Patrick, Tim Grayson, Gary Asch, Gary Lee Asch, Jerry Lee Scott and Ralph Wells.

    Donna Louise Marcum, age 56, of Freds Lane in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2019, as the result of an automobile accident.
    She was born December 4, 1962 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Denver Reynolds and Myrtle Reynolds Moore. She was a retired Walmart employee and was a member of the Providence Baptist Church. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Mrs. Marcum is survived by her husband, Farris Glen Marcum; one daughter, Rebecca Marcum, Estill County; two sons: Joseph Marcum (Amber) and Bryant Christopher Lee Mahaney, both of Estill County; three brothers: Freddie Reynolds, Madison County; Kevin Reynolds, Estill County; and Gary Wayne Reynolds, Georgia; and two grandchildren: Hagen Joe Marcum and Brisen Cole Marcum.
    She was preceded in death by one brother, Randall Reynolds.
    Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 8, 1:00 p.m., at the Providence Baptist Church by Bro. Tim Roberts and Bro. Randy Marcum. Burial was at the Marcum Cemetery. Friends may call between 6 and 9 p.m., Sunday, July 7th at the Providence Baptist Church.

    Gary Gene Estes, age 50, died Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at the Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, Kentucky.
    He was born May 24, 1969 in Clark County, the son of Dewey Howard and Mildred Neely Estes.
    Mr. Estes is survived by his mother, Mildred Estes of Clay City; six brothers: Hubert Estes of Irvine, Buford Estes of Clay City, Cecil Ray Estes of Winchester, Dewey Clayton Estes of Winchester, Ronnie Darrell Estes of Clay City, and Virgil Dean Estes of Irvine; and a sister, Wilma Woosley of Winchester.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Dewie Estes.
    Funeral services were held at 12 Noon, Friday, July 5, 2019 at the Grayson Funeral Home Chapel, 201 7th Avenue in Clay City. Friends visited Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. Burial was in the Beatty Place Cemetery in Beattyville.

    Delana June Brandenburg, daughter of the late Clinton and Grace Brandenburg was born in Lee County, Kentucky on Friday, October 13, 1950 and departed this life in Lexington, Kentucky on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the age of 68 years, 8 months, and 19 days.
    Delana is survived by six sisters: Loretta Captain of Miamisburg, Ohio; Nina Soper of Lexington, Kentucky; Brenda Wilcox (Bill) of Springboro, Ohio; Judy Clifton (Charlie) of Georgetown, Kentucky; Barbara Profitt (Paul) of Brookville, Ohio; and Jane Stamper (Mark) of Frankfort, Kentucky; three brothers: Earl Brandenburg (Javenne) of Irvine; Harold Dean Brandenburg of Perryville; and Mike Brandenburg of Beattyville; a special friend, Eugene Peel of Lexington; and a host of many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
    In addition to her parents, Delana is preceded in death by one sister, Betty Lamberth and her husband Ed; and one brother, James Brandenburg.
    Visitation was held Friday, July 5th from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. at Newnam Funeral Home, 108 Center Street in Beattyville. Services at 1:00 p.m. were conducted by Bro. Scott Brandenburg with burial in Stonecoal Cemetery in Lee County.

    She was born May 23, 1945 in Irvine, Kentucky to the late Morlin O. and Anna Gertrude White Curtis.
    Survivors include, husband, Henry Andrews; two daughters, Sandy Coleman (Gary) and Lisa Lorraine Baldridge (John); a son, Lonnie Michael Andrews; two brothers: Donald Richardson and Billy Wray; five grandchildren: Christina Williams, Christopher Coleman, Javan Baldridge, Brittany Day, and Brittney Mae Andrews; a step-granddaughter, Kristin Lena'e Sizemore; two great grandchildren, Jayden Fox and Shaylyn Leach; and a step-great granddaughter, Journee Sizemore.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Earl Andrews; and brothers and sisters, Lou Edna Hall, Beulah Richardson-Curtis, Lola May Steiner, Hazel Kemper, Edith Campbell, Gippie Caudill, Louedna Curtis Smith, Lilia Curtis, Arthur Adams, George Richardson Jr., Ozzie Curtis, Kelzie Curtis, George Curtis, Bob Curtis, and Owen Curtis.
    Services were held Thursday, July 4, 1:00 p.m., at Davis & Davis Funeral Home in Stanton by Rev. Greg Webb. Visitation was held Wednesday, July 3rd, 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial was in the Elkin Cemetery, Clay City.

    Della Mae Ervin, age 84, of Collins Avenue in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019, at her home following a long illness.
    She was born August 24, 1934 in Newtown, Scott County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Earnest and Flossie Johnson Parker. She was a retired housekeeper and had lived in Estill County for the past five years.
    Mrs. Ervin was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Ervin, Sr.
    She is survived by her son, Clarence Ervin Jr., Irvine; two sisters: Mattie Allen and Opal Welcher, both of Lexington; five grandchildren: Jean Howard, John Howard, Jennifer Ervin, Jessica Ervin and Volina Miller; and four great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by two daughters: Susan Gail Frank and Doris Jean Howard; and four brothers: Bill, Roy, Oscar and Alan Parker.
    Memorial services will be conducted at a later date.
