Cloma Hook, 86
Cloma Hook, age 86, of Worrells Road in Irvine, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2019 following a long illness.
She was born October 9, 1932 in Crockett, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Ruben and Elva Ball Fyffe. She was a compassionate, retired caregiver. She worshiped the Lord as a member of the Providence Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hook is preceded in death by her husband, Bert Hook. Together they lovingly raised their children in Estill County.
She is survived by her children, Berta Nell (Jim Byrd) of Powell County, Elva Susan Plowman (Daniel) of Estill County, Jack Oliver Russell of Lee County, and Charles Wendell Hook (Lisa) of Madison County; her sisters, Joyce Dehaven, Jessie Dehaven, and her brother, Hobert Fyffe, all of Ohio; ten grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Mrs. Hook is preceded in death by one son, William Donovan Russell; five sisters, Laura Mayabb, Bertha Lewis, Nell Kazee, Dovie Lewis, Betty Lewis; and two brothers, Homer Fyffe and Leo Fyffe.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, October 6th, 2 p.m., at the Providence Baptist Church by Brother Tim Roberts. Burial followed in the South Irvine Cemetery. Friends call after 12:30 p.m., Sunday, at the church until service time.
Pallbearers were Anthony Brubaker, Kyle Brubaker, Kenneth Plowman, Austin Plowman, Adam Plowman and Dustin Stidham.
Warren F. Toler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Letcher Vanderpool, 77
Letcher Vanderpool, age 77, Frames Branch Road, Clay City, Kentucky, formerly of Irvine, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2019 at his home.
He was born June 18, 1941 in Lee County, Kentucky to the late Letcher and Minnie Wise Vanderpool. He was a Vietnam United States Army Veteran.
Arrangements were made by Davis & Davis Funeral Home of Stanton.

Survivors include three brothers, Clayton Vanderpool (Ann), California; Nelson Vanderpool and Frank Vanderpool (Jean), both of Irvine.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother, Vina Elofskey, Zella Hall; and Raymond Vanderpool.
Lotha Mae Allen, 92

Lotha Mae Allen, age 92, of Geneva Avenue in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, September 30, 2019, at the Irvine Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
She was born October 26, 1926 in Cincinnati, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Deward and Rachel Witt Hisle. She owned Allens' Grocery for over 25 years where she was famous for her Big Ham Sandwiches. She was a member of the Ivory Hill Baptist Church for over 60 years and due to her illness changed her membership to the Friendship Baptist Church. She was a former member of the Eastern Star and had lived in Estill County most of her life.
Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Allen.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda Allen Webb, Irvine; six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 18 great, great grandchildren and one great, great, great grandchild; and her special caregiver, Deborah Cheney, Estill County.
Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Carol Thomas; her sons-in-law, Jimmy Webb and David Thomas; one brother, Dallas Hisle; two grandchildren, David Allen Thomas and Gregory Stone; and her long-time companion, Shine Samples.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 4, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Marvin Neal and Bro. Scott Rogers. Burial will be at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends may call between 6 and 9 p.m., Thursday, October 3rd at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Randall Harrison, Mike Edmonson, Josh Bush, Bill Taulbee, Chadley Graham, Mike Murphy and Kevin Power.
Honorary pallbearers were Randall Harrison, Mike Edmonson, Josh Bush, Bill Taulbee, Chadley Graham, Mike Murphy, Kevin Power and Trey West.
Honorary pallbearers were Gregory Stone, Tommy Stone, Gene Samples, Jerry Samples, Ivan Miller and the Men of Friendship Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Friendship Baptist Church or the Irvine Nursing and Rehabilitation Council.

Wilma Sue Hurley, age 68, widow of Norman Hurley, Frames Branch Road, Clay City, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.
She was born August 10, 1951 in Clay City to the late Kenneth and Lois Faye Powell Goodwin.
Survivors include, one son, Darrell Hurley (Tammy Smith); one daughter, Lisa Barnes (Wayne Burton); three grandchildren, Darla Hurley, Glendon Hurley, and Savanna Barnes; three brothers, Johnny Goodwin, Randy Goodwin, and Billy Joe Goodwin; and two sisters, Louise Hall and Wanda McIntosh.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Lois Faye Powell Goodwin; her husband, Norman Hurley; three brothers, Anthony Goodwin, Doug Goodwin, and Virgil Goodwin; and one sister, Sylvia Goodwin.
Services will be held Friday, October 4, 1:00 p.m., at Davis & Davis Funeral Home, 777 West College Avenue, Stanton by Bro. Phillip Smith. Visitation will be Thursday, October 3rd, 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Goodwin Cemetery, Clay City.

Eva Pearl Mastin, 78

Eva Pearl Mastin, age 78, of Franklin, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday evening, September 11, 2019.
She was born on August 17, 1941 in Ravenna, Kentucky to Alfred “Doc” and Bertha Tipton Dunaway. Eva was a 1959 graduate of Estill County High School in Kentucky. She married Lewis Mastin on August 17, 1958. He lovingly survives. She was employed by ArvinMeritor in Franklin, retiring after many years of dedicated service.
Eva enjoyed working in her flower beds. She loved and cherished the time spent with her husband, children and grandchildren.
She is also survived by son, Michael Mastin (Suzanne) and daughters, Donna Baker (Pat) and Kelly Mastin. She is survived by her grandchildren, Luke, Kyle and Kurt Mastin, Jess Perkins (Lance), Dan Baker, and Kris Mastin; and brothers, Damon Dunaway and Nelson Dunaway (Judy).
Mrs. Mastin was preceded in passing by her parents, Alfred “Doc” and Bertha Dunaway; brothers, L.C., Ray, Paul, Glenn and Millard “Dood”; and sisters, Kathrine Kincaid and Ted Gentry.
Rev. Tim Gephart conducted a celebration of Eva’s life on Monday, September 16, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin, Indiana. Friends called on Monday, September 16 from 12:00 Noon to time of service at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial was at Hopewell Cemetery in Franklin, Indiana.

Carolen Kite Jones, age 73 of West Chester, Ohio, formerly of Clay City, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2019, at the West Chester Hospital.
She was born in Estill County, September 23, 1946 to English and Hazel Lillian Watson Willoughby. She was a retired truck driver and a member of the church of God.
Mrs. Jones is survived by a son, Glenn Wade of Lee County; a daughter, Kimberly Chambers of Ohio; three grandchildren, and a brother, Larry Willoughby of Stanton
She was preceded in death by her parents, English and Hazel Willoughby, her husband, Donald Jones; a daughter, Tammy Caudill; a brother, Mike Fugate; and two sisters: Anna Elkins and Wandella Congleton.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 27, 2019 at the Grayson Funeral Home Chapel in Clay City with Bro. Kenny Wasson officiating. Friends visited Friday from 11:00 a.m. 'till time of the service. Burial was in the Rose Cemetery in Stanton.
