Nellie Ballard, 76

Nellie Ballard, age 76 of Clay City, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the Stanton Nursing and Rehab.
She was born February 18, 1943 in Clay City to Willie and Violet Goodwin.
Mrs. Ballard is survived by three sons: Linville Ballard of Lexington, Fred Ballard and Garland Ballard, both of Winchester; five daughters: Bonnie Hacker (Kevin) of Lexington, Callie Ballard of Winchester, Christina Ballard of Clay City, Linda Ballard and Martha Chandler, both of Georgetown; 13 grandchildren, five great grandchildren; three brothers: Robert Goodwin of Stanton, Roger Goodwin of Oklahoma, and William Goodwin of Clay City; and four sisters: Julia Puckett of Clay City, Bessie Tipton of Ohio, Norma Conner of Clay City and Allie Goodwin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ballard; her parents, Willie and Violet Goodwin; a son, Clifford Ballard; and two brothers, Floyd and Frank Goodwin.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at the Grayson Funeral Home Chapel, 201 7th Avenue, Clay City, with Bro. Kim Rose officiating. Friends may visit Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. untill time of the service. Burial will follow in the Gray Cemetery in Estill County.
Mae Hollon, 86

Mae Hollon, age 86, of East College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2019.
Born January 12, 1933 in Cobb Hill, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Collis Gillispie and the late Margaret O'Conner Gillispie. Mae was a homemaker and member of Full Gospel Lighthouse Church.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Gene Gibson; her son, Randall Osborne; and by several brothers and sisters.
Mae is survived by her daughter, Sharon Townsend of Georgetown; her son, Anthony Osborne (Sonya Hobbs) of Stanton; five grandchildren: Billy Richardson, Ricky Hollon, Nikki Hollon, Linda (Daniel Clair) Osborne and A. J. Osborne; and seven great grandchildren.
Memorial services officiated by Bro. Paul Day will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Hearne Funeral Home Inc., 125 West College Avenue, Stanton. Visitation is 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
Chelsa Turner, 85

Chelsa Turner, age 85, of Hoys Fork Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2019 at his home following a long illness surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born June 17, 1934 to John and Florence Turner. Chelsa was a retired Second Class Petty Officer in the Navy. He enjoyed being with his family; watching the humming birds outside his window and spending time with his beloved dogs.
Chelsa is survived by his children: Sally Hickman (Doug), Oregon; Chelsea Ray Turner (Michelle), Oregon; Teresa Eller, Michigan; John Lee Turner (Margaret), Virginia; Margaret Rude (Mike), Virginia; and Sheila Hatchell (Glenn), Vigiinia; 15 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Joseph, Andy, and Raymond Turner; and a sister, Pauline Riddell, as well as his favorite nephew, Marion Riddell.
A very special thank you to all the people that have helped cared for Chelsa, Ms. Brenda and Misty from the VA; Ms Dana and Stephanie from Hospice; Kiersten Tuttle for shaving his face, and Helen Hall for cutting his hair.
Services will be held at Lewis-Abner Home for Funerals, 224 Main Street, Irvine, Ky on Tuesday October 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with the burial at Pea Ridge Holiness Church Cemetery.
Flossie Stepp Profitt, 79

Flossie Stepp Profitt, age 79, widow of Charles Vernon Profitt, departed for glory on Friday, October 18, 2019.
A native of Irvine, Kentucky, she was born on January 15, 1940, to the late Harvey and Sallie Kirby Stepp. She was a Baptist, a longtime stay at home mother and later owned a grill and billiards game room.
Survivors include four children, Sandy Broadbent, Gregory Scott Profitt, Charles Vernon Profitt Jr. and Brian Profitt (Missy); one sister, Nettie Stepp Stone; six grandchildren, Robert, Lisa, Tasha, Joshua, Shawnee and Josh; and several great grandchildren, family and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Wayne Jenkins; two brothers, Beverly and Chester Stepp; and a brother-in-law, Lowell Clay Stone.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 21, 2019 at Scobee Funeral Home, 219 West Lexington Avneue, Winchester, by Pastor Sandy Broadbent. Burial will be in Winchester Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.

Pamela Gail Bradley, age 59, of Barnes Mountain Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at the University of Kentucky Health Center in Lexington, following a long illness.
She was born April 9, 1960 in Estill County and was the daughter of Rosa Lee Gilbert Williams. She was the owner for Taxes in A Flash. She attended the Nazarene Church. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
Mrs. Bradley is survived by her husband, Donald Keith Bradley, Estill County; her mother, Rosa Lee Gilbert Williams, Estill County; her mother-in-law, Diana Hitchcock, Madison County; one daughter, Bethany Wesley, Madison County; one son, Jeffrey Crouch, Jr., Estill County; and one brother, Howie Lynch, Estill County.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, October 20, 2:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Ricky Isaacs. Burial followed in the Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation was held between 6-9 p.m., Saturday, October 19th at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Dennis Gilbert, Stephen Gross, Jamie Richardson, Sammie King, Wesley Banks and James Robinson.
Emma Lee Ballard Neal Bolton, 79

Emma Lee Ballard Neal Bolton, age 79, widow of Travis Neal and George Bolton, passed away Wednesday morning, October 16, 2019 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, after a long illness.
Mrs. Bolton was a native of Estill County, born February 14, 1940, daughter of the late James and Rosie Henry Ballard. She was a homemaker who enjoyed tending her rose garden, singing and playing her guitar, cooking and reading the bible. In her younger days Emma was known to be very skilled at horseshoes.
She was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Lee Neal; her siblings: Art Ballard, Edith West Spicer, TJ Ballard, Helen Barnes, Martha Ann Roe, and O.W. Ballard.
Survivors include her children Danny Neal (Tonya), Travis Neal, Rosa Atkinson (William), and Della Ree "Delay" McKinney; her sister, Eva West; her grandchildren; Jeremy Atkinson, Jennifer Wides, Grover McKinney, Jeff McKinney, Cory Neal, and Jacob Neal; and her great grandchildren: Breckyn Atkinson and Elizabeth Wides.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2019, at Lewis-Abner Home for Funerals. Burial will follow in the Sparks Cemetery. Friends may call anytime after 10:00 a.m. until service time.
Nora Cathrine McGee, 80

Nora Cathrine McGee, age 80, of Byron Ridge Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at the Marcum and Wallace Hospital following a long illness.
She was born June 1, 1940 in Estill County and was the daughter of Forester Brinegar and Ella Jo Richardson Brinegar. She was homemaker and was a member of the Church of God. She lived in Estill County most of her life.
Mrs. McGee is survived by her husband, James Delmar McGee; three sons: James Randall McGee, Ohio; Timothy Lane McGee, Estill County; and Rodney Eugene McGee, Kenton County; three sisters: Ina Elliott, Phyllis Jo Horn; and Patricia Dean Eades, all of Estill County; and four grandchildren: Cody McGee, Ashton Stephens, Christian McGee, and Sean Michael McGee.
She is preceded in death by one son, Bradley Scott McGee; and eight brothers: Billy Jewell, Lindburg Jewell, Chuck Brinegar, Don Brinegar, Sonny Brinegar, Jack Brinegar, Duke Brinegar, and Samuel Lambert.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family.

Betty Larrison, age 76, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at her residence.
She was born April 5, 1943 in Irvine to Benjamin Franklin and Mary Alice Barnes. She was a housewife and was a faithful watcher of WLJC-TV.
Mrs. Larrison is survived by four sons: Walter Snowden (Rose) of Stanton, Franklin Larrison (Joyce), William Larrison (Jennifer), and Terry Larrison, all of Irvine; four daughters: Connie Baker (Joe) of Richmond, Jennifer Crase (Joe) of Ohio, Kathren Carroll of Lexington, and Amanda Larrison of Irvine; 20 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; and a sister, Alice Brooks of Irvine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Mary Barnes; her husband, Phillip Larrison; a grandson, Phillip Michael Larrison; six brothers: Preston Barnes, Richard “Dick” Barnes, Robert Barnes, Samuel Barnes, Glen Barnes, and William Barnes; and six sisters: Geraldine Barnes, Geneva Barnes, Ora Lee Jones, Zela Conner, Hazel Woolsey and Latisha Brooks.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 18, 2019 at the Grayson Funeral Home, 201 7th Avenue in Clay City with Bro. Garry Jones officiating. Friends may visit Thursday, October 17th from 6 till 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Jackson Chapel Cemetery in Irvine.
Carrie Mae Chrisman Frye, 87

Carrie Mae Chrisman Frye, widow of Earl Frye and the daughter of the late Robert Cecil and Lottie Shelton Chrisman was born in Lee County, Kentucky on March 29, 1932 and departed this life in Irvine, Kentucky on October 14, 2019 at the age of 87 years, 6 months, and 16 days. She was a former employee of the Beattyville Dry Cleaners.
Carrie is survived by her brother and sister, Charles Chrisman of Irvine, and Betty Spencer of Lee County, a very special nephew, Willard Chrisman (Linda) of Beattyville; and a host of several nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her five brothers and sisters, Mary A. Brandenburg, Geneva Chrisman, Robert “Bug” Chrisman, Darlene Hacker, and Troy Chrisman; and her special friend, Oval Gross.
Visitation was held Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Newnam Funeral Home Chapel, 108 Center Street, Beattyvile, 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. Interment was in Saint Helens Cemetery, 138 Hwy. 2019.

Thomas Gene Hughes, 83
|
Thomas Gene Hughes, age 83, of Red Lick Road, Irvine, Kentucky, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, after a battle with cancer.
He was born August 31, 1936 in Estill County where he lived all his life. He was the son of the late Ernest Ralph Hughes and Pashie Alice Reed Hughes.
Gene worked as a carpenter and construction worker, and he retired from American Tobacco Co. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours doing gardening and yard work. He also loved to travel, camp, and chat with his neighbors. He was a faithful member of the Cow Creek Presbyterian Church in Booneville.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Darrell Leon Hughes and Lawrence Edward Hughes.
Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jeanette Moore Hughes; his sisters-in-law, Juanita Hughes, Marsha Hughes, Alma Click (Danny), Joyce Begley (Ronnie Paul), and Donna Stenberg (Mark); and his brothers-in-law, Ronnie Moore (Judy) and Shelby Moore (Bernetta). Surviving nieces are Darvell Hughes Webster, Shanna Hughes Reeder, Sarah Stenberg Dalmeir, Jennifer Moore Hall, Angela Moore Aldran and Krista Moore. Surviving nephews are Eddie Hughes, Steven Begley, Stuart Begley, Jonathan Taylor, and Travis Stenberg. A special cousin, Louise Reed Woolery, along with several great nieces and nephews also survive. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, October 16th at The Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with Brother Terry Sandlin officiating. Visitation was from 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens, West Irvine.
Pallbearers were: Howard Rogers, Bill Beard, Charlie Taylor, Jonathan Taylor, Danny Click, Ronnie Paul Begley, Jerran Webster, Brian Reeder, Eddie Hughes and Eddie Woolery.
Honorary pallbearers were: Elders and members of the Cow Creek Presbyterian Church plus all great nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, KY or to the Cow Creek Presbyterian Church in Booneville, KY.
Myra Sue Durbin Embry, 75
Myra Sue Durbin Embry, 75, of Berea, Kentucky, was called home to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 5, 2019.
Myra was born Sunday, August 14, 1944, to the late Herman Scott Durbin and Berdie Forest Howell in Irvine, Kentucky. Raised as a member of Irvine First Christian Church, she developed her talent of singing and playing the piano. She carried that talent as a member of the “Harmonettes” throughout high school; later becoming an active member of Summit Heights United Methodist Church and Berea United Methodist Church.
After earning her degree in Special Education Instruction from Eastern Kentucky University, Myra settled in Louisville, Kentucky, where she raised her children, Kevin Scott Embry (Suzanne Viers) and Jennifer Embry Bakan (David Schmidt) whom she shared with former spouse, Harold Wayne Embry. In 1995, Myra became “Granny” to Chelsey Rae Edgell and later to Austin Wayne Edgell. Her love for her family was shown through her patience and constant support.
Myra was a dedicated teacher at Churchill Park and Luhr Elementary. The love she had for her students was beyond measure. After retirement she moved to Berea, for a slower-paced lifestyle. She enjoyed working at Honeysuckle Vine along side of her best friend of more than 60 years, Jimmy Lou Jackson.
She leaves loving memories to be cherished by her sisters, Wanda R. Wilson of Irvine, and Eva E. Rice of Lexington; and her brother and sister in-law, Scott and Shirley Durbin, of Lexington; along with many nieces and nephews whom she loved.
Myra's Celebration of Life services will be held Saturday, October 19th from 12:00-2:00 p.m. with a service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Summit Heights United Methodist Church in Louisville, and another celebration will be held Saturday, October 26th from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at The Pinnacles Center, 2047 Big Hill Road in Berea.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in her memory.
Wilma Lee Crowe, 63
Wilma Lee Crowe, age 63, of Winchester, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2019.
She was born April 19, 1956 to Alfred and Mary Ann Estes Hall in Madison County. She was a homemaker and a member of Dunaway United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Crowe is survived by her son Wesley Crowe (Jessica); her mother, Mary Ann Estes Hall; two sisters: Pearl Allen and Frances Hampton (Charlie); two brothers: Scotty Hall and Lewis Hall (Ammie); nieces, Joann Allen, Sarah Cornett, Martha Johnston, Lee-Ann Robinson, Mary Jean Jordan and Brandy Hall; nephews, Robert D. Allen and Michael Allen, Ronnie Hampton and Donnie Hampton.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Glen R. Crowe; her father, Alfred Hall; a brother Stanley Carl Hall; and a brother-in-law Robert Wayne Allen.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at the Winchester Cemetery with Rev. Robie Shrout officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. untill 12:30 p.m. at Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home, 289 South Main Street, Winchester.
Essie Marie Neal Gordon, 63
Essie Marie Neal Gordon, age 63, of Wisemantown Road, Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at the Hospice Care Plus Compassionate Care Center in Richmond following a long illness.
She was born November 15, 1955 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Charlie Neal and Scottie Riddell Neal. She was a homemaker and was a member of the High Street Holiness Church. She lived in Estill County all her life.
Ms. Gordon is survived by two daughters: Tonia Marie Rogers and April Dawn Gordon, both of Estill County; one son, Bobby J. Gordon, Estill County; three sisters: Clara Donahue, Hester White, and Roetta Hackworth, all of Estill County; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Barbara Williams, Edith Hall, and Myrtle Miller; and 1 brother, Norman Neal
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, October 13, 2:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called after 11:00 a.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.

Rickie Lee Ruble, age 62, of Red Lick Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2019 at his home.
He was born August 14, 1957 in Madison County to the late Rollie Ruble and Irene Phillips Ruble. He was a former Tool and Die Manufacturer for P.K. Tools. He lived in Estill County most of his life.
Mr. Ruble is survived by his wife, Linda Michelle McGee Ruble, Estill County; one daughter, Stacy Lee Alexander (Anthony), Estill County; two sons: Rickie Todd Ruble and William Joel Ruble (Leann), both of Estill County; three sisters: Linda Nicholson, Grace Ruble and Patty Skirvin; and six grandchildren: Justina Ruble, Raleigh Ruble, Payton Alexander, Anthony “Tony Lee” Alexander, Kaylee Ruble, and Kaleb Ruble.
He is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, October 12, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Delmer McGee. Burial followed in the Ruble Cemetery. Friends called after 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.

Paul Edward Moore, age 67, of Kirkland Avenue in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, following a long illness.
He was born July 28, 1952 in Rockcastle County and was the son of the late Henry Moore and Ruby Cromer Brown. He was a Kentucky Colonel and lived in Estill County most of his life.
Mr. Moore is survived by his wife, Carolyn Faye Cole Moore, Estill County; two daughters, Rhonda Tuttle, Richmond; and Crystal Moore Baskin, Estill County; three sons: Keith Edward Moore, Troy James Moore, both of Estill County; and Clinton Joshua Moore (Amanda), Richmond; one sister, Sheila Jones; two brothers: Harold Moore and Jeff Moore; 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Pauline Bullock, Connie Schnitzer, Carolyn Osborne; and one brother, Christopher Moore.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, October 11, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Ernest Wayne Hatton. Burial followed in the Oakdale Cemetery. Friends called after 10:30 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home.

William Stephen Daugherty, Esq., 49

William Stephen Daugherty, Esq., age 49, passed away at his home, Sunday, October 6, 2019.
Steve was a native of Estill County, a son of Vivian Kay Moore Daugherty and the late Elwood Daugherty. Steve was a graduate of Georgetown College where he studied finance and marketing; he received a Masters of Arts in teaching at EKU; he received a Masters in Business Administration from EKU; and his law degree from Brandeis School of Law in Louisville. Steve was an attorney, working for the Dept. of Public Advocacy, and a former teacher, working in several local school districts. Steve was an Elder and member of Irvine First Christian Church, a member of the Irvine Masonic Lodge, a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, and the NACDL. He enjoyed travel, UK sports and hunting.
Survivors other than his mother, Vivian Kay, include his brother, Phillip; two very special nieces that he loved like daughters, Kaylin Alexis Daugherty and Kayci Allyson Daugherty.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 11, 2019 at Irvine First Christian Church, with Bro. Greg Humpert and Bro. Glynn Sizemore officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends called anytime after 6:00 p.m., Thursday, October 10th at Lewis-Abner Home for Funerals.
Pallbearers were Dewayne Deaton, Jim Hall, Paul Daugherty, Lonnie Daugherty, James Richardson, Earl Gabbard, Brian Daniel and Robert King.
Honorary pallbearers were Elders and Deacons of Irvine First Christian, members of the Irvine Masonic Lodge, and attorneys and staff of the Dept. of Public Advocacy.
