Mary "Donnie" Abney, 76

    Mary "Donnie" Abney, age 76, passed away Friday, November 1, 2019.
    She was born May 7, 1943 to the late William and Helen Hiler Dailey.
    Mary is survived by her beloved son, James A "Jamie" Reed, her cherished daughter, Joy L. McMillan (Jimmy); her youngest daughter, Helena K. Young (Wayne); her loving sister, Sharon K. Dailey; and many loved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
    She is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Chelsie McMillan; and brothers, Charles and Gerald "Jerry" Dailey.
    Mary was the heart of her family and an amazing one of a kind lady. Her light and spirit continue on in all the family and friends she cared for.
    Services will be Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at 1:00 p.m., at Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home, 289 South Main Street, Winchester, with Bill Shumate officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. and also at 11:00 a.m. 'till the hour of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens, Nicholasville.

Stella May Newton, 80

    Stella May Newton, age 80 of Church House Hill Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019, at her home following a long illness.
    She was born July 10, 1939 in Powell County and was the daughter of the late Earnest and Gladys Powell. She was a retired Carhartt, Inc. employee and had lived in Estill County all her life. She was a member of the House of Prayer and enjoyed shopping at Flea Markets.
    Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by her husband, Willy “Jerry” Newton.
    She is survived by her son, Jerry Douglas Newton (Bertha), Estill County; three sisters: Brenda Fox (Bob), Vicky Powell, both of Clark County; and Thelma Lorraine Hatton, Somerset; two sisters-in-law: Charlotte Richardson and Vicky Newton, both of Estill County; one brother-in-law, Glenn Newton, Estill County; six grandchildren: Jessica Hoover, Josh Newton (Jamie), Jerrica Newton, Jayd Raines (Selena), Travis R. Donahue and Abel Lynn Newton; several great grandchildren, and special friends, Dale and Gladys Borders.
    Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by her daughter, Evelyn Hall.
    Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 6, 2019, 2:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Adam Arvin and Bro. Tony Riddell. Burial will be at the Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Glenn A. "Slick" Dunaway, 83


Glenn A. "Slick" Dunaway

    Glenn A. "Slick" Dunaway, age 83, Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Marcum and Wallace Hospital following a short illness.
    He was a native of Estill County, born December 3, 1935 to Robert and Julia Dunaway. Glenn enjoyed sitting on his porch watching the squirrels and blue jays, watching NASCAR racing on the weekends, and playing with his beloved dog, Scooter. He also was a prankster with his family and friends, and often liked to talk telemarketers out of calling him back. In his younger days, he could be found hiking the mountain behind his house and tending garden with his wife, Celia.
    Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Celia Dunaway, to whom he was married 59 years before her passing in 2012.
    Survivors include his children, Freda Fain (Charlie Painter), Troy Dunaway (Karen), Ricky Dunaway (Gina), Rosetta Winkler (Steve), and Roy Dunaway; his sister, Pat Wiseman; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a special son and daughter, Phil and Connie Noland.
    A gathering of friends and family to honor his life will be held Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Dunaway Cemetery beside the White Oak Church of God, 1985 White Oak Road, Irvine. There will be a meal to follow.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to help support the continued upkeep of Dunaway Cemetery, of which Glenn took care of his entire adult life.

    Connie Jean Hatton, age 61, wife of David Hatton, passed away Friday, November 1, 2019 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington.
    She was born October 24, 1958 in Paris, Kentucky to the late Eugene Clay Rainey Sr, and Bessie Virginia Garland Rainey.
    Survivors include her husband, David Hatton; one daughter, Amanda Puckett (Jerry); her mother, Bessie Rainey; two brothers, Eugene Rainey Jr. and Robert Rainey (Audrey); three sisters, Madonna Vickers (Pat), Becky Whitaker (Rick), and Tina Asbury (David); and three grandchildren, Dakota Hatton, Haley Puckett, and Gracie Puckett.
    Services will be held Monday, November 4, 2019, 1:00 p.m., Davis & Davis Funeral Home, 777 West College Avenue, Stanton. Visitation will be on Monday after 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Hatton Creek Cemetery with Dakota Hatton, David Asbury, Jerry Lee Atkinson, Christopher Rainey, Charlie Rawlins, and Jeremy Taulbee serving as pallbearers.

Randy Scott King

    Randy Scott King, age 51, of Sandhill Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, November 1, 2019, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a long illness.
    He was born May 1, 1968 in Estill County and was the son of Ralph King and the late Betty Spencer Charlton. He was an engineering technician with Nestle USA and a member of the Irvine Free Methodist Church. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. King is survived by his father, Ralph King, Irvine; one daughter, Sarah King, Irvine; one son, Randy Scott King, Jr. (Paige), Irvine; two sisters: Kimberly Moore, Irvine; and Donna Reed, Somerset; and two brothers: Tommy King and David King, both of Irvine.
    He was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph King.
    Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, November 5, 2019, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Chris Carlyle. Burial will be at the King Family Cemetery. Friends may call between 6 and 9 p.m., Monday, November 4th at the funeral home.

    Henry Todd Walters, age 48, of Elm Street in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Friday, November 1, 2019, at his home.
    He was born January 21, 1971 in Richmond, Kentucky, and was the son of Henry Earl Walters and Ladene Walters Foster. He was a former employee of Tokico and had attended the Ravenna Nazarene Church.
    Mr. Walters is survived by his father, Henry Earl Walters; his mother, Ladene Walters Foster (Jerry D.); three daughters: Cara Walters, Tavin Walters, and Morgan Walters; one son, Johnathan Walters (Jamie); and two grandchildren: Nekoda and Zayn Walters.
    He was preceded in death by his sister, Melissa Dawn Walters.
    No memorial services are scheduled at this time.

James Omer Noe

    James Omer Noe, age 79, of Fitchburg Road in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2019, after a long illness.
    He was born April 3, 1940 in Estill County and was the son of the late James Grant and Goldie Mae Tipton Noe. He served in the United States Army and was a retired farmer and construction worker. He was a member of the House of Prayer and had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Noe is survived by his wife, Pamela Jean Riddell Noe; one daughter, Teresa Mae Raider, Danville; two sons: James Stephen Noe, Estill County; and Jeffery Boyd Noe, Morehead; four stepchildren: Melason Edmonson, Donnie Leon Isaacs, Jr., Kevin Shane Isaacs, and Aaron Craig Isaacs, all of Estill County; 20 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald G. Noe; one sister, Lois Jean Barnes; and one great grandchild.
    Funeral services were conducted Sunday, November 3, 2019, 2:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Darrell Isaacs and Bro. Garrett Thomas. Burial was at the Mackey Cemetery. Friends called Sunday from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

Chalmer Phillip Martin

    Chalmer Phillip Martin, age 81, of Flint Road in Waco, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at his home following a long battle with black lung.
    He was born June 21, 1938 in Wayland, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Ben and Della Taylor Martin. He was a retired electrician and a former employee of the South East Coal Company. He was a former member of the National Guard and a former member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Concord Christian Fellowship and the Elks Club. He had lived in Madison County most of his life.
    Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Helen Marie Newman Martin; three daughters: Georginia Phillip Burnell, Maudellen Lakes, and Angie Cheathan, all of Madison County; three sons: Phillip David Martin, Madison County; James Dudley Palmer, Tennessee; and Phillip Allen Palmer, Madison County; one sister, Claudia Jean Clark, Madison County; one brother, Blaine Taylor Martin, Madison County; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Stafford.
    Funeral services were conducted Friday, November 1, 2019, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Kenneth Bishop and Bro. Warren Toler. Burial was at the Madison Memorial Gardens. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Thursday, October 31st at the funeral home.

Donald Shuler, 78

    Donald Shuler, 78, husband of Norma Parker Shuler, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
    He was born in Lee County, Kentucky, on September 29, 1941, to the late Dellie and Allie McIntosh Shuler. He was retired from the lumber industry and was a member of Epperson First Church of God.
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Timothy W. Shuler; two daughters, Vickie Shuler Sipes and Jennifer Elliott (David); one step-son, Trevin C. Henry; six grandchildren, Dana Fox (Randy), Gina Harvey, Aaron Elliott (Alyssa), Trenton Elliott (Morgan), Courtney Barnes and Shawnta Barker; eight great grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren; three siblings, Walter Shuler (Jackie), Sidney Shuler (Carol) and Emma Oney (Jack); three half siblings, Dellie Shuler, Charlie Shuler and Demmie Shuler Myers; his step-mother, Verna Shuler; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Bonnie Dunaway; and a daughter, Emma Darlene Shuler.
    Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 1, 2019 at Scobee Funeral Home, 219 West Lexington Avenue, Winchester, by Pastors Chris Williams and Raymond Tipton. Burial will be in Log Lick Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, October 31, 2019 from 5:00-8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

Darren James “D.J.” Baker

    Darren James “D.J.” Baker, age 38, of Campbells Branch in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at his home.
    He was born March 25, 1981 in Madison County and was the son of Darrell and Audrey Mastin Baker. He was an employee of Baker Pool Supply and had lived in Estill County all his life. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church and the KA Fraternity.
    Survivors, in addition to his father and mother, include his son, Byron Blye Baker; his sister, Kristin Elswick, Georgetown; and his nephew, Caleb Ballard.
    Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 2, 12:00 Noon, at the Friendship Baptist Church by Bro. Scott Rogers. Burial will be at the Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call between 6 and 9 p.m., Friday, November 1st at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home and after 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the Church.

    Jason Keller, the son of Mary Jo Palmer Fugate and JH Keller both of Beattyville, Kentucky, was born in Salem, Indiana on November 11, 1965 and departed this life in Lexington, Kentucky on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at the age of 53 years, 11 months, and 11 days. He worked in masonry construction.
    He is survived by five children, Stephen Keller of Rush, Kentucky; Jason Randal Keller of Lexington, Jeremiah Harold Keller of Nicholasville, Jason Chance Keller of Richmond, and Megan L. Keller of Beattyville; five grandchildren; eight siblings, Jackie Broadwell, Vernon Keller, Ted Palmer, Michelle Smith, Johnny Thorpe, Aaron Thorpe, Chris Keller, and Jessica Whisman; his mother, Mary Jo Fugate; his father, JH Keller;and a host of other relatives and friends.
    Visitation will be held on Monday, October 28, 2019, at Newman Funeral Home, 108 Center Street in Beattyville, 6:00 p.m. until service time at 8:00 p.m.

    Harold Tracy Sparks, age 47, passed away Saturday, October 26 after a long illness.
    He was born February 15, 1972 in Campton, Kentucky, to Edward and Judy Sparks. He was a former construction worker.
    Mr. Sparks is survived by his mother and stepfather, Judy and Arnold Taulbee of Campton; his girlfriend, Rebecca Gross of Irvine; two brothers: James Sparks (Kayla) of Stanton, and Darren Sparks (Brittany) of Irvine; a stepbrother, Terry Taulbee of Michigan; three stepsisters: Georgetta Marnelle, Paula Robinson, both of Michigan; and Debbie Taulbee of Tennessee; one niece, Kayla Sparks; and three nephews: Devin Sparks, Zane Sparks and Gauge Arrowood.
    He was preceded by his father, Edward Clay Sparks.
    Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at the Grayson Funeral Home Chapel, 201 7th Avenue in Clay City, with Bro. Bill Birchfield officiating.     Alma Jean Stone, age 93, of Dayton, Ohio passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at her home.
    She was born July 16, 1926 in Clark County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Buford Ashcraft and Carrie Spicer Ashcraft Richardson. She was retired from the Hewitt Soap Company and was a member of the Old Pathway Pentecostal Church.
    Mrs. Stone is survived by three sons: Tony Dale Stone, Indiana; Gary Wayne Stone, and Jerry Stone, both of Ohio; one sister, Dorothy Griggs, Estill County; six grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Parker; six sisters: Susan Jane Meadows, Lena Schooler, Ruby Henry, Elizabeth Neal, Irene Huckle, and Florence Wilson; and two brothers: Charles and Edward Ashcraft.

Betty Jean Mansfield

    Betty Jean Mansfield, age 88, of Muncie, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019.
    She was born February 26, 1931, in Estill County, Kentucky, the daughter of Harry W. and Nellie Ballard Howe. Betty and her late husband, James, moved to Muncie in 1951. She worked many years as a secretary at the former Muncie Clinic, Prairie Creek Reservoir and the Muncie Eagles Lodge. Betty loved to read, bowl and play bingo. Above all, she loved her family and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many who will miss her smile.
    She is survived by three sons, Jim (Suzy), Jack (Gayle) and Joe (Terry). Also left to cherish her fond memory are five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, a brother, Ralph Howe; a sister, Wilma Vaughn; and special sisters-in-law, Mary Hochadel and Duluth Witt.
    Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 41 years, James; and five siblings, Ed Howe, Frances Hamilton, Jack Howe, Don Howe and Boyd Howe.
    Funeral services for Betty will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Road 3, Muncie, Indiana, at 3:30 p.m.. Family and friends may call from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date.
    The family wishes to thank Southern Care Hospice and the caring staff at Elmcroft of Muncie Assisted Living Center for the wonderful care given to our mother during the past several months.

    Harold Henry Rainey, age 78, husband of Edith Mae Sparks Rainey of Winchester, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, October 21, at 9:47 p.m., after a short illness.
    Mr. Rainey was a native of Clark County, born on January 22, 1941 to the late Howard Hampton and Bettie Anderson Rainey. He was retired from Paul Miller Ford in Lexington where he worked for more than 55 years. He was a member of the Church of God Cathedral.
    In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by one son, Jason Scott Rainey (Renee) and one aunt, Ada Adams.
    Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Scobee Funeral Home, 219 West Lexington Avenue, Winchester. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 25th at Scobee Funeral Home by Rev. David Douglas. Burial will follow at the Winchester Cemetery.

    Daniel Stone, age 59, of Isaac Drive in Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Monday, October 21, 2019, at his home following a sudden illness.
    He was born March 29, 1960 in Winchester, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Wynton Gayle and Helen King Stone. He was an employee of the KoKoKu Rubber Company and was of the Catholic faith.
    Mr. Stone is survived by his wife, Traci Lynn Walters Stone; his mother-in-law, Jane Walters, Estill County; two sisters: Theresa Stevens (Ron Douglas), Scott County; and Kathy Stone, Tennessee; three brothers: David Stone (Mary), New York; William Stone (Nancy Brandenburg), and Jimmy Stone (April), both of Estill County; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Marty & Noreletta Wilburn.
    He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Stone; and one nephew, William Brian Stone.
    Memorial services will be conducted Thursday, October 24, 2019, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. John Anderson. Friends may call between 11:00 a.m. and service time at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
