Elsie Settle Gross, 77
|
Elsie Settle Gross, 77, the widow of the late Clyde Gross, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Monday, November 18, 2019 at Hospice Compassionate Care Center of Richmond.
She was born November 1, 1942, at Berea, Kentucky, to Raymond and Ethel McHone Settle, both of whom preceded her in death. Elsie was a certified nursing assistant and had served many families in Richmond by cleaning homes. She was of the Baptist faith
Survivors include one son, Ronnie Clay Gross (Marquitta) of Berea; four daughters, Eva Lois Alexander (Johnny) of Berea, Reva Joyce Poynter, Betty Elizabeth King, both of Richmond, and Gail Picklesimer (Ron) of Berea; two sisters, Katherine King (Junie Botkins) of Berea, and Nancy Landsaw (Albert) of Winchester; and four brothers, Donald Burnell of Richmond, Jimmy Settle of Berea, Ronnie Settle of Wolfe County, and Paul Settle of West Liberty. She also leaves her grandchildren, Steve Poynter , Crystal Snowden (Chris), John Jon Jones (Jill), Heather Johnson (Nathan), Melonie Wood, April Riddell (Kevin), Nikta Reece (Josh), Michael Pickens, Josh Gross (Melanie), Jacob Gross, Tonya Smith (Brown); and numerous great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Janessa Wood; a special step-mother, Katherine Settle Landrum; two sisters, Lucille Barrett and Elizabeth Smyth; and three brothers, Howard Settle, Ricky Settle and Larry Brewer.
Funeral service for Elsie will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 22, 2019, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, 1110 Barnes Mill Road, Richmond, with Bro. Greg King officiating. Burial will follow at Gross Cemetery in Estill County. Visitation will be 6 – 9 p.m., Thursday, November 21st at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Gross, Josh Gross, Stevie Townsend, Richard Townsend, Johnie Wilburn and Steve King.
Wilma Jean Sparks, 63

Wilma Jean Sparks, age 63, of Kissey Branch in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2019, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, following a short illness.
She was born April 11, 1956 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Walter and Ola Mae Sparks White. She was a retired mail carrier with the Irvine Post Office and was a member of the Holiness faith. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
Ms. Sparks is survived by one daughter, Amy French (Jason), Estill County; one son, Thurston Alcorn (Lynn), Madison County; four sisters: Joyce Edmonson, Estill County; Gladys Davis, Madison County; Teresa Smith and Rosa Lee White, both of Estill County; and four grandchildren: Wade French (Lexi); Henry, Mason and Calvin Alcorn.
She was preceded in death by six sisters: Margie Stanley, Marzella White, Roberta Sparks, Sharon White, Betty Jo White and Elizabeth White.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the Newton Cemetery. Friends may call between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Roy Eugene Conner, 66
Roy Eugene Conner, 66, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2019 at his home.
Roy was born on January 22, 1953 in Estill County, Kentucky, and was the son of Pleas and Zella Golden Barnes Conner, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a retired grounds foreman at Eastern Kentucky University.
He is survived by: his wife, Denise Burns Conner, of Richmond; two daughters, Marsha Conner Hayes (Floyd Pearson), of Berea, and Michelle Conner Davidson (Timothy), of Jackson County; four grandchildren, Matthew Hayes (Rebekah), Merissa Conner Seals, Tamara Jo Crumley (Michael), and Joey Lamb; five great grandchildren, Lacey Seals, Conner Seals, Riley Seals, Michael Jo Crumley, and Malachi Crumley; four brothers, Gary Conner (Kay), Bobby Conner (Mary), Doug Conner, and Earl Conner; one sister, Barbara Sue Johnson (Chris); two sisters-in-law, Beverly Conner and Debbie Conner; three brothers-in-law, Tim Horn, Virgil Burns, and Hershel Burns.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Brenda Horn, and four brothers, Pleas E. Conner Jr., Donald Conner, Tommy Conner, and Mark Conner.
Visitation will be from 5–9 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, 1110 Barnes Mill Road, Richmond. A funeral service for Roy Conner will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 20th at the funeral home with Bro. Virgil Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery
Pallbearers will be Keith Boskins, Matthew Hayes, Jack Hacker, Joey Lamb, Dale Ragle, and Marty Conner.

Tula Jane Prewitt, 76
|
Tula Jane Prewitt, age 76, of Frankfort, Kentucky, wife of Leon Prewitt, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2019.
She was born in Estill County on April 2, 1943 to the late Tracy and Nettie Powell West. She retired from Fletcher County State Government and was a member of Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Rick Prewitt (Marina); her sister, Susie Ballard, Ravenna; her brothers-in-law, Sonny Prewitt, and Verlon Prewitt; her grandchildren, Laura Mays, Tory Crawford, Hannah Crawford, Gabby Prewitt, and Nicholas Prewitt; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Crawford; her sister, Janice Miller; her sister-in-law, Catherine Tipton; and by her brothers-in-law, Bobby Prewitt and Vic Miller.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019 at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Road in Frankfort.

Virgie Tyree Wilson, age 83, of Fern Court in Winchester, Kentucky, passed away Monday, November 11, 2019, at the Madison Health & Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
She was born March 26, 1936 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Jesse and Cora Hall Lutes. She was a former employee of the Winchester Clothing Company and had lived in Clark County most of her life.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by two sons: Ralph Tyree (Fara) and Richard Tyree (Debbie), both of Winchester; one sister, Marjie Richardson, Estill County; one brother, Forrest Lutes, Estill County; and four grandchildren: Courtney Thorpe (Jeff),
Jacob Tyree (Mallory), Autumn Peak (Billy), and Jeremy Tyree (Amanda); and seven great grandchildren: Ashley Peak, Zoey Ann Thorpe, Max Thorpe, Flynn Tyree, Haley Tyree, Tommy Tyree, Taylor Tyree and Austin Peak.
She was preceded in death by three sisters: Betty Ann, Allene Rose, and Minnie Lee Martin; four brothers: Jess, Roy, Johnny and Russell Lutes; and one grandchild, Chris Tyree.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, November 13, 2019, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Ronald Lutes. Burial was at the Rose-Freeman Cemetery. Friends called from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Travis Rose, Jacob Tyree, Benny Webb, Gary Campbell, Earl Black and Jeff Thorpe.
Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Webb and Glen Rose.
Damon G. Dunaway, 81

Damon G. Dunaway, age 81, of Wall Street in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, November 8, 2019, at his home following a short illness.
He was born April 23, 1938 in Estill County and was the son of the late Alfred and Bertha Tipton Dunaway. He was a concrete contractor and a member of the River Drive Christian Church. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
Mr. Dunaway was preceded in death by his wife, Wavelene Wise Dunaway.
He is survived by one daughter, Angela Hall, Newport, Kentucky; one son, Garry Dunaway, Irvine; one brother, Nelson Dunaway, Ohio; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Mr. Dunaway was preceded in death by one son, Jeffery Dunaway; three sisters: Teddie Gentry, Catherine Dunaway, and Evie Pearl; and four brothers: Paul, Dude, Glen and Ray Dunaway.
Memorial services will be conducted Thursday, November 14, 2019, 5:30 p.m., at the River Drive Christian Church by Bro. Paul Groves. Friends may call between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m., Thursday at the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Great Strides Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Team Cora’s Crew, Team member Angela Hall or the River Drive Christian Church.

Mona Lisa Abney Watson, age 63 of Mountain Crest Drive in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, November 8, 2019, at her home following a long illness.
She was born November 8,1956 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late J.D. and Jenny Brown Abney. She was a
homemaker, a member of the Ivory Hill Baptist Church and lived in Estill County all of her life.
Mrs. Watson is survived by her husband, Jimmy B Watson, Estill County; one son, Jimmy Watson, Jr., Estill County; one daughter, Ginny Marie Watson, Estill County; three sisters: Carol Barnes, Norma Nunley, and Mary McIntosh, all of Estill County; five brothers: Robert Abney, Ronnie Abney, Johnny Abney, Tim Abney, and Duke Abney, all of Estill County; six grandchildren and one great gGrandchild.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Carlos McCormick.
Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Jim Abney and Danny Abney.
There are no services scheduled at this time.

Juanita “Tootsie” Rison, age 81

Juanita “Tootsie” Rison, age 81, of Wall Street in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2019, at her home.
She was born February 27, 1938 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Roy D. and Sophia M. Garrett Arvin. She was a retired employee of the Bluegrass Army Depot and a member of the Crooked Creek Christian Church. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
Mrs. Rison was preceded in death by her husband, Estill Rison.
She is survived by two daughters: Vivian Walling (Gene Dixon) and Lisa Rawlins (Gary), both of Irvine; one son, Ronald Rison (Robin), Irvine; three sisters: Margaret Barnes (Ronnie), Waco; Betty Young (Bob), and Phyllis Thomas, both of Irvine; seven grandchildren: Chris Rawlins, Michelle Rawlins, Jessica Townsend, Erica Stewart (Jeremy), Veronica Mansfield (Clay Jr.), Victoria Rison and Tony Walling; 20 great grandchildren, six great, great grandchildren; and a special granddaughter-in-law, Sylena Neal of Irvine.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, November 12, 2019, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Donnie Watson. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Friends called between 6 and 9 p.m., Monday, November 11th at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Logan Rawlins, Layden Rawlins, Cody Walling, Caden Stewart, Zack Townsend, Carson Mansfield and Blake Rison
