Kenneth R. Barnett

    Kenneth R. Barnett, age 69, husband of Martha Tipton Barnett, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his family and friends.
    He was born in Estill County, Kentucky, on October 18, 1950, to the late Eugene and Mary Louise Walling Barnett. He was retired as a school bus driver and from the Bluegrass Army Depot. Mr. Barnett was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard, serving proudly for more than 24 years.
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Whitney Denise Price (Andrew); a granddaughter, Emma LeeAnn Price; one half-brother, Bob Walling (Margaret); four siblings, Sherman Barnett, Betty Murphy, Rhoda Anderson and Joyce Walling (Ray); and several extended family members and friends.
    Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 7, 2020 at Scobee Funeral Home, 219 West Lexington Avenue, Winchester, by Bro. Lonnie Storms. Burial will be in Winchester Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, February 6th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jerry Lee Creech

    Jerry Lee Creech, age 76, of Harris Ferry Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2020, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
    He was born August 14, 1943 in Hamilton, Ohio and was the son of the late Orville and Gladys Smith Creech. He was retired from East Kentucky Power and was a member of the Epperson First Church of God. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Creech is survived by his wife, Freida Berryman Creech; two daughters: Robin Creech, Richmond; and Shelly Harvey (David), Ravenna; one son, Jody Creech (Mary Beatty), Lexington; one brother, Dennis Creech (Netta), Texas; a sister-in-law, Vivian Burmagen, Winchester; five grandchildren: Kristin Muncie, Brandon Muncie, Brooke Muncie, Jordan Horn and Dustin Watson; and eight great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by two sisters, Judy Creech Wilson and Vona Newton.
    Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, February 6, 2020, 11:00 a.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Chris Williams. Burial will be at the Fielder Cemetery. Friends may call between 6 and 9 p.m., Wednesday, February 5th at the funeral home.

Randell Jerome Mayes

    Randell Jerome Mayes, the husband of Cheryl Howell Mayes and son of the late Beulah and Junice Mayes was born in Estill County, Kentucky on September 11, 1950 and departed this life Frday, January 31, 2020, at his home in Lee County, Kentucky at the age of 69 years, 4 months, and 20 days.
    He was a bluegrass gospel musician and a member of the Holiness church of Heidelberg, Kentucky.
    Randell is survived by his wife, Cheryl; three brothers, Wayne, Larry and Shannon Mayse; three sisters, Jo Thacker, Hope Thacker and Elsa Marie Tharp; two sons, Rick Mayes of Dayton, Ohio; and Sonny Hines of Beattyville; a daughter, Cherie Ausgo Tharp of Salt Lake City, Utah; three grandsons; one granddaughter; three great grandsons; two great granddaughters; and a host of nieces; nephews; and friends.
    He was preceded by his parents and a brother, Junice Jackson Mayse.

James "Jim" Glenn Sparks

    James "Jim" Glenn Sparks, age 58, husband of Donna Townsend Sparks, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2020 in Leeco, Kentucky.
    He was born January 18, 1962 in Campton, Kentucky to the late Glenn Sparks and Waveline Friend Sparks.
    Survivors include, mother, Waveline Sparks; wife, Donna Townsend Sparks; special companion, Bogie; sisters, Jody Hatton and Janice Chambers (Mike); mother and father-in-law, James R. and Geneva Townsend; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dena and Aaron Dailey.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Sparks and brothers, Arthur "Artie" Sparks, and William Richard Sparks.
    Services will be held Sunday, February 2, 2020, 2:00 p.m. at Davis & Davis Funeral Home, 777 West College Avenue, Stanton, by Bro. Rick Isaacs.     Eric Austin Tipton, age 24, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington after a long illness.
    Eric was born in Winchester, Kentucky, on December 17, 1995 to Timothy Matthew and Teresa Lynn Shoemaker Tipton. He is the grandson of Phyllis Tipton of Irvine and the late Larry "Blue" Tipton.
    A memorial service will be held at Ark of Mercy Church of God, 240 Winn Avenue, Winchester, Kentucky on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.

    Nell Tipton Pearson, age 78, of Dodd Road, Richmond, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2020, at Baptist Health-Richmond.
    She was born in Estill County on June 1, 1941, the daughter of the late Berry and Jean Louise Fiaella Tipton. She was a homemaker and a former employee of Exide.
    Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Jean Jackson (Brent) of Huntsville, Alabama; three sons: Thomas Clay Pearson (Bessie), James Allen Pearson and Randall Scott Pearson, all of Richmond; five sisters: Mary Patricia Watson (Howard), Linda Lou Means, Diane Edwards (Jimmy), Norma Jean Nixon and Nina Marie Tipton; three brothers: Buddy Tipton, Harold Donald Tipton (Berta) and James Anthony Tipton; three grandchildren: George William Pearson, Jennifer Ann Shuman (Michael) and Bobby Dean Pearson; four great grandchildren: Billy Ray Shuman, Stewart Michael Shuman, Bentley Clay Shuman and Liam Thomas Pearson; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
    Nell was preceded in death by her siblings: Michael Berry Tipton and Joann Rose Frost.

    Vincent Ray Pelfrey, age 41, of High Street in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, January 27, 2020, at his Mom’s home following a sudden illness.
    He was born January 6, 1979 in Clay City and was the son of Ray Pelfrey and Della Wagner. He attended the Wagersville Pentecostal Church of God and had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Pelfrey is survived by his Mom, Shelia Sparks, Irvine; four sisters: Rhonda Claypoole (Todd), Beaver Dam; Karen Abrams (Darrell), Richmond; Nellie Lambert (Joseph) and Lila Young (Kevin), both of Irvine; one brother, Lee Wagner, Louisville; nieces and nephews: Beth Thompson, Ethan Claypoole, Noah Lambert, Cheryl Abrams and a special nephew, Jaxson Young; and five great nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his Dad, Glendon Sparks; and one brother, Charles Sparks.
    Funeral services were conducted Thursday, January 30, 2020, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Todd Claypoole. Burial was at the Sparks Cemetery. Friends called Thursday, between 10:00 a.m. and service time at 1:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

    Bobbie Kay Schaaf, age 73, Fort Mill, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2020 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hold.
    Born in Irvine, Kentucky, December 18, 1946, Mrs. Schaaf was the daughter of the late Robert Edward Covey and the late Nina King Covey Riley. She was retired from United States Postal Service with over 30 years of service.
    She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Marie Schaaf James; and a step-brother, Paul Douglas Hinds.
    Surviving are her godson, Mark Schaaf (Sarah) of Fort Mill, South Carolina; her son-in-law, Rick James, and her three granddaughters, Jessica James, Samantha James and Christina James, all of Lexington, South Carolina; her brother, Tony Covey (Opal) of Irvine; two sisters, Becky Brode of Cicinnati; and Judy Rucker of Richmond; two brothers, Lee Riley of Irvine and Danny Riley of Cincinnati; and a step-sister, Omma Leigh Hinds Lewis.
    A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, South Carolina, with Reverend Matt Sidell officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1st at the funeral home prior to the service.

    Mitchell Wayne Robinson, age 54, of South Court Street in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2020, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.
    He was born March 16, 1965 in Hamilton, Ohio and was the son of Iza Robinson and the late Mayfrey Harrison Robinson. He was a former Cracker Barrel employee.
    Survivors, in addition to his father, include one daughter, Elianna Grace Robinson, Irvine; one step-son, Johnathan Starr, Oxford, Ohio; and two brothers: Marvin Robinson, Ohio; and Michael Robinson, Irvine.
    There will be a gathering of family and friends on Saturday, February 1, 2020, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home.

Patricia Gay McCoy Rogers

    Patricia Gay McCoy Rogers, of Salt Lick, Kentucky, died Thursday morning, January 23, 2020 at Edgewood Estate Nursing Home.
    She was born in Powell County, Kentucky on December 6, 1942 to the late Thomas McCoy and Orphy Sparks Stewart. Patricia attended church at Bethel Baptist Church in Frenchburg and enjoyed spending time with her friends, family and especially her children. She also liked to travel and visited all of the lower forty-eight United States on a motorcycle with her husband. Patricia quilted and cooked often for loved ones; they will miss her dearly.
    Mrs. Rogers is survived by her husband of 62 years, Irvil Rogers of Frenchburg; two sons, Irvil Thomas Rogers of Salt Lick and Delmos Brian Rogers (Amy) of Bryan, Ohio; two grandchildren, Chris Connin and Colton Rogers, both of Bryan, Ohio; one great grandchild, Anthony Molina of Bowling Green, Ohio; and one sister, Nanola Browning of Logansport, Indiana.
    In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her daughter, Katherine Laverne Clark.
    She was also a sister to Flora Profitt, Virgie Bishop, Brenda Noland, and Betty Noble.
    There was a visitation gathering, Saturday, January 25, 2020 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Coffman Funeral Home & Crematory in Mount Sterling. Committal will be at Townsend Cemetery in Powell County following cremation.

    Lewis Edward Kirby, age 84, of Pea Ridge Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020, at Baptist Health in Richmond after a long illness.
    He was born January 7, 1936 in Estill County and was the son of the late Elihue and Hallie Kirby. He was a retired brick mason. He lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Kirby is survived by one daughter, Sherry Freeman (Larry), Estill County; one son, Phillip Kirby (Rosetta), Estill County; four grandchildren: Bradley Kirby, Matt Kirby Heather), Heather Brooks (Kenneth), and Brittany Addison (Thomas); and five great grandchildren: Haylee and Hayden Brooks, Jared Addison, Rhett and Eason Kirby.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Johnson Kirby; five sisters: Alberta Ashcraft, Maggie Hardy, Chaney Riddell, Mattie Walters, and Elizabeth Hardy; and five brothers: Joe, Mid, Robert, Hugh Jr. and Eugene Kirby.

    Betty Elaine Levi, age 71, of Furnace Junction in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Friday, January 24, 2020, at the University of Kentucky Hospital following a short illness.
    She was born May 25, 1948 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Marion and Murel McIntosh Gray. She was a homemaker and member of the Gum Springs Church of God. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Mrs. Levi is survived by her husband, Jesse Earl Levi Jr.; two sons: Matthew Allen Gray and Brantley Mason Gray, both of Estill County; two sisters: Darlene Hughes and Sandy Tipton (Donnie), both of Estill County; and three brothers: Lonnie Gray, Estill County; Linville Gray (Vickie), Ohio; and David Gray (Tammy), Estill County.
    She was preceded in death by one son, Michael Dewayne Kinder; and four siblings: Patricia McKinney, Marion “Moondog” Gray, Donnie Simp Gray and Robin Gray.

    Johnny Lee Neal, age 66, of Drip Rock Holiness Church Road in McKee, Kentucky, passed away Friday, January 24, 2020, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital in Irvine, following a long illness.
    He was born August 18, 1953 in Estill County and was the son of the late Andrew and Hazel Deaton Neal. He was a painter and loved to fish. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Neal is survived by his wife, Wanda Sue Clark Neal; two daughters: Melissa Neal, Jackson County; and Rhonda Sue Harvey (Roger), Estill County; two sons: Jonathan Lee Neal and James Mathew Neal, both of Estill County; four sisters: Hazel Mae Neal, Ethel Flannery, both of Estill County; Delorse Kirby, Fayette County; and Shelia Neal, Estill County; two brothers: Lacy Neal, Fayette County; and Glen Neal, Arkansas; and 14 grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by three brothers: Harold, Buddy and James A. Neal.

    Phyllis Ann Townsend, age 70, of Dug Hill Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, January 24, 2020, at her home following a long illness.
    She was born January 12, 1950 in Beattyville and was the daughter of the late Orval and Frances Ruth Cole Raines. She was a mother, a homemaker and a quilter. She attended the Church of the Living God and had lived in Lee County most of her life.
    Mrs. Townsend was preceded in death by her husband, Hershel Townsend.
    She is survived by two daughters: Teresa Lynn Raines, Richmond; and Angelia Marie Moore (Harold) Irvine; two sons: Frederick Lee Townsend (Paula) and Hershel Dewayne Townsend, both of Irvine; three sisters: Shirley McIntosh, Opal Davidson, and Margaret McIntosh (Gentry); all of Beattyville; two brothers: James Raines (Shirley), Richmond, Indiana; and Vernon Raines (Shannon), Beattyville; and four grandchildren: James Canaan Moore, Beattyville; Joshua Ray Collins, Cody Nathaniel Collins, both of Irvine; and Caitlyn Nicole Moore, Richmond.
    Mrs. Townsen was preceded in death by three siblings: Drucilla McKinney, Ernie Lee Raines and Orval Leon Raines.

    Serenity Squish Stewart, infant daughter of Logan and Shawna Stewart, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at 6:08 p.m. at St Joseph East Women’s Care, Lexington, surrounded by her loving family. Squish is deeply loved by her parents Logan & Shawna Stewart.
    Graveside services will be held Monday, January 27, 2020, 4:00 p.m., at the Stewart Family Cemetery, 201 Amanda Lane Jeffersonville, Kentucky.
    She will be greatly missed by grandparents, Gary “Pa” and Valerie “Mimi” Stewart and Bill “Poppy” and Sherry “Nana” Eldridge. Her aunts and uncles, Leslie “LouLou” Stewart (Austin), Carole “BoBo” Alcorn (Andy), Mary “Auntie M” Flynn (Darin) will miss fighting over who is her favorite aunt. Leman "Pappy" Daniels

    Leman "Pappy" Daniels passed away Monday, January 20, 2020 at the age of 89, in the same bed he was born in, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
    He was born on April 22, 1930 in Estill County, Kentucky. He was the oldest of eight children born to J.W. and Bessie Flynn Daniel. Lee graduated from Estill County High School in 1948, and served one year in the United States Navy. On June 16, 1951 he married Inez Kerr, and together they had three children, Linda, Nikki and Steve. He retired from the Ohio Army National Guard after 30 years, where he made many lifelong friendships. Lee was a wonderful storyteller, loved working around his home, bluegrass music, travelling and Kentucky Wildcats Basketball.
    Lee was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jerry and Ted Daniels; a sister, Nina Flynn; and a son-in-law, Bob Rogers.
    He’s survived by his loving wife, Inez; his children, Linda Rogers, Nikki Agee (Bruce) and Steve Daniel (Kim); seven grandchildren, Geoff Hupp, Elizabeth Hill, Sonja Shelton, Jessica Agee, Lindsey Becker, Sydney Root, Madelynn Daniel; nine great grandchildren; three sisters, Doris McGee, Madonna Clem and Faye Reece; and a brother, Edsel Daniel; many nieces, nephews and other family members.
    Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2020 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Webb-Noonan-Kidd Funeral Home, 240 Ross Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio. The funeral ceremony will be held on Friday, January 24, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. with Charles Anderson, minister, officiating. Interment will be held at Rose Hill Burial Park. A reception will follow at Laurel Avenue Church of Christ, where Lee was a member.
    The family would like to thank Hospice of Cincinnati, his caregiver, Tonya Bowling, and nurse, Linda Smith.

    Arthur Edward McIntosh, age 61, of Bane Place in Winchester, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, following a short illness.
    He was born November 16, 1958 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Arthur McIntosh and Emma Tipton McIntosh. He was a former mechanic and was a member of the Turning Point Apostolic Church. He lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. McIntosh is survived by one daughter, Hope Barnes (Robbie), Winchester; two sisters: Margaret Cumpton, Ashland; and Janet Walters, Estill County; one brother, Robbie McIntosh, Estill County; and four grandchildren: Kendall Barnes, Anna Barnes, Kane Barnes, and Liza Barnes.
    He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Bowlin and Doris McIntosh-Fox.

    Mayme Elizabeth "Ma" Willis Johnson, widow of the late John Johnson, of Mt. Sterling, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2020. She was an 87-year-old native of Estill County, born May 25, 1932, a daughter of the late Kurt and Birdie Rogers Willis. She was a homemaker and member of the Holiness Church.
    Mrs. Johnson is survived by eight sons: Hindman Johnson Jr., Orville Johnson (Paula), Gary Johnson, Ricky Johnson (Betty), Noah Johnson (Courtney), Donald Johnson (Judith), Verlon Johnson, and Glen Johnson (Opal); two daughters: Inza Croft (Larry) and Peggy True (David), and numerous grand, great, and great, great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by a daughter, Julia Fae Johnson; four brothers and three sisters.
    Her funeral was held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Herald & Stewart Home for Funerals in Mount Sterling with Pastor Donald Fountain presiding. Burial was in Willoughby Cemetery. Visitation was 11-1:00 p.m., Wednesday.
