Mary Karen Johnson

    Mary Karen Johnson, age 62, of Clearview Drive in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2020, at her home following a long illness.
    She was born November 25, 1957 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Willie and Beatrice Plowman Hurley. She was a homemaker and a member of the Full Gospel Evangelist Ministry. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, Horace Charles Johnson; one daughter, Patty Turner (Herman), Estill County; one son, Terry Johnson (Tina), Estill County; a sister-in-law, Pat Olinger (Gary), Estill County; one brother, Mitchell Hurley, Estill County; three grandchildren: Russell Wiseman, Tyler Wiseman and Alicia Rawlins (Kyle); three great grandchildren: Kaleb Goosey, Kayla Goosey, Keeley Goosey; and a special granddaughter, Angelica Bailey.
    She was preceded in death by one sister, Katherine Allen; and four brothers: Bradley, Matthew, Dale and Russell Hurley.
    Private services will be conducted.

JoAnna Pearl Clift Francis

    JoAnna Pearl Clift Francis, age 84, of Louden Avenue in Lexington, Kentucky, passed away Friday, April 24, 2020, at the Bluegrass Care and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
    She was born March 18, 1936 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Elmo and Zella Rogers. She was a retired employee of the St. Joseph Hospital and a member of the Trinity Baptist Church. She had lived in Lexington most of her life.
    Mrs. Francis was preceded in death by her husbands, Herbert Clift and Sylvester Francis.
    She is survived by her son, Herbert Clift (Regina), Fayette County; one sister, Wavalene Crockett, Fayette County; one brother, Chester Rogers, Montgomery County; three grandchildren: Lindsay Rose, Joe Clift and Diana Oliver; and three great grandchildren: Breanna Rose, Brantley Oliver and Ella Oliver.
    Mrs. Francis was preceded in death by one sister, Maxine Shepherd; and three brothers: Lloyd, Ernest and Lenial Rogers.
    Private services will be conducted.

Bonnie Darlene Freeman Estes

    Bonnie Darleen Freeman Estes, age 78, of Lock 11 Road in Irvine, Kentucky, widow of Charles Elbridge Estes, passed away at her home on Friday, April 24, 2020.
    She was a native of Estill County, born October 23, 1941, the daughter of Virgil and Bertha Singleton Freeman. Darleen worked for many years as a teaching assistant at the former Hargett Elementary School where those who knew her expressed many fond memories. She was a member of Bethel Christian Church.
    In addition to her parents, Virgil and Bertha Singleton Freeman, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Elbridge Estes in 2009; one son, Ronnie Dale Estes in 2017, four sisters: Carlie Frances Baker, Corena Ann Steinmetz, Pattie Marie Freeman, and Betty Freeman; and two brothers: Elbert J. “Bud” Freeman and an infant brother, Dewey Freeman.
    She is survived by her brothers in law and sisters in law and numerous cousins and friends.
    Private graveside services were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at the Rose and Freeman Cemetery at Fox.

    Edith Powell Noland, age 94, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at the Irvine Health and Rehab Center in Irvine, Kentucky.
    She was a native of Estill County, born October 20, 1925, a daughter of the late Henry and Dorsie Howell Powell. She was a retired employee of the Marcum Wallace Memorial Hospital and a member of the Cedar Grove Methodist Church.
    Ms. Powell was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward, Rodney and Henry Wallace Powell; and her sister, Elizabeth Powell Fox.
    Survivors include her daughters: Doris Sue Isaacs (Jessie), Elizabeth Noland, Shanetta Flynn (Wilton), and Donna Young (Carl); her sons, Larry and Mark Noland; a sister, Mamie Hudson; her grandchildren: Mike Isaacs, Kenny Ray Isaacs, Danny Stacy, Leeann Noland, Jeffrey Flynn, Sondra Young, Carl Wayne Young II, David Noland, and Monica Noland; ten great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    Private services will be held.

    Wendell Ray Hardy, age 67, husband of Diane Wells Hardy, died Wednesday, April 22, 2020.
    Born July 15, 1952 in Estill County, he was the son of the late Earl J. and Ora Lee Durbin Hardy. Wendell was a truck driver.
    Additional survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Kennedy (Ryan) and Christy Phillips (Barry); three stepchildren, Roger Dale, Joseph Martin and Valerie Jean Collins; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one sister, Marilyn Shirtsinger (David).
    In addition to his parents, Wendell was preceded in death by his brothers, Terry, David, Donnie, and his twin, Kendell.
    Private services will be held at a later date.

Jesse "Tommy" Foster

    Jesse "Tommy" Foster, age 81, husband of Janice Crabtree Foster, North Fork Road, Stanton, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2020.
    Born March 15, 1939, at Furnace, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Jesse Foster, Sr. and the late Carrie Johnson Foster, and he served as an Army Security Agency Courier in the United States Army. Tommy was retired from Armco Steel where he worked in the chemistry lab. He was a member of Bowen First Church of God and enjoyed fishing, hunting and his passion, gardening and cooking.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward Clay Foster and Larry Gale Foster; and two sisters, Alfreda McDowell and Bonnie Smith.
    Tommy is survived by his wife, Janice Foster; one son, Darren Foster (Leisa) of Nicholasville; two daughters, Susan Henry of Stanton and Tina Judy (Robert) of Fairfield Township, Ohio; one sister, Betty Faye Daniels (Robert) of Franklin, Ohio; five grandchildren: Tiffany Ann Koopman, Karie Foster, Miranda Minor, Jessica Minor and Matthew Minor; a step-grandchild, Destiny Riley; and two great grandchildren, James Koopman and Emma Parsley.
    Drive-in funeral services officiated by Bro. Bill Carpenter will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 27, 2020 in Bowen First Church of God parking lot. Assistance will be given when arriving at the church regarding parking and the service may be heard on your FM dial at 90.1. We ask that everyone remain in their vehicles when arriving at the church.
    Burial will be in Stonegate Cemetery with Bobby Patrick, Reece Foster, Billy Edwin Crabtree, Timmy Foster, Matthew Minor, Barry Crabtree and Dana Parsley serving as active pallbearers.

Sharon Jeanette Story Tudor

    Sharon Jeanette Story Tudor, age 67, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at UK Chandler Medical Center in Lexington.
    Mrs. Tudor, the daughter of Jesse Story, Jr. and Barbara Tate Story, was born in Madison County on June 5, 1952. She had worked for Continental Metals and later for a local daycare. She dearly loved her grandchildren and worshipping at Irvine View Holiness Church.
    In addition to her mother, other survivors include her brother and sister-in-law: Michael and Wilma Story of Paint Lick; one sister and brother-in-law: Marsha and John Tharpe of Irvine; and three grandchildren: Chelsea Roberts, Corbin Roberts and Madison Roberts.
    In addition to her father, Mrs. Tudor was also preceded in death by her husband Gene Tudor and her only son, Jason Roberts.
    Due to current government restrictions, the family has chosen private services with burial in the Madison County Memorial Gardens.

Edward Eugene Rogers

    Edward Eugene Rogers, age 71, husband of Phyllis J. Rogers, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.
    He was born September 12, 1948 in Bowen, Kentucky to the late George Otis and Hildreth Spencer Rogers. Ed proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was also a beloved fixture at the Bowen Elementary School, serving as custodian there for seventeen years.
    Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Rogers; two daughters, Connie Nobles (John) and Donna Rogers; a son, Dean Rogers (Laura); grandchildren, Alex Nobles, Chelsea Gilliam (Tyson), Cayde Nobles, Cole Nobles, Maddi Nobles, Kennedy Nobles, Jayla Rogers, Adaleen Rogers, and Edward James Rogers; great grandchildren, Nixon Gilliam and Zoey Gilliam; brothers, Raven Rogers (Ava), James Rogers (Charlene), Tom Rogers, Cebert Rogers (Jane), Carlos Rogers (Linda), Eldon Rogers, Goble Rogers (Carol), Mike Rogers (Kathy), and Ray Rogers (Carolyn); and a sister, Nannie Moreland (Randolph).

Ralph Kenton Tipton

    Ralph Kenton Tipton, age 82 of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at Rockcastle Regional Hospital with his wife by his side.
    He was born in Estill County, on April 3, 1938 the son of the late William Arthur and Stanley Reed Tipton. He is a retired employee of IBM, Lexington and NAACO, Berea and was a member of Livingston Baptist Church. He was a beloved husband, father, and Papaw. He will be remembered for his love for God, for his family and for all children, and, of course, for Kentucky Wildcats Basketball.
    Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 30 years, Elizabeth “Liz” Tipton; his children, Billy and Michelle Tipton of Eddyville, Vickie and Gary Howard of Harrodsburg, Leslie Tipton of Winchester, Lori Gill of Berea, Melissa and Ronnie Owens of Somerset, and Melody and Chastity Ware of California; siblings, Norelyne Goodlett and William Kenneth Tipton, both of Lexington, Eldean “Peggy” Hall of Nicholasville, and Jerry and Betty Tipton of Winchester; a daughter-in-law, Tammy Tipton of Nicholasville; 13 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one great grandchild. A host of nieces and nephews, as well as special pastors, Gary “Shank” Parker and Randy McPheron, also survive.
    He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Tipton; a brother, Robert “Buster” Tipton; a son-in-law, Barry Gill; sisters-in-law, Betty Tipton and Dorothy Tipton; and a great grandson, Colton Crouch.
    In accordance with social distancing and our current health and safety concerns, a celebration of life service will be announced at a later date.
    The family of Mr. Tipton would like to extend a special thanks to all the Rockcastle Regional Hospital Staff and Rockcastle EMS.

    Charlie Allen Isaacs, age 79, of Dry Branch Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020, at the Baptist Health in Richmond following a long illness.
    He was born September 8, 1940 in Estill County and was the son of the late Virg and Mary Marcum Isaacs. He was a bricklayer, logger and farmer and had lived in Estill County all his life. He loved his family and enjoyed coon hunting.
    Mr. Isaacs is survived by his wife, Virginia Mae Estes Isaacs; two daughters: Rebecca Ellen Tipton and Brenda Faye Isaacs, both of Irvine; one sister, Betty Taylor, Irvine; one brother, Donnie Isaacs, Irvine; one grandchild, Stevie Tipton; and two great grandchildren: Lacy and Allen Tipton.
    He was preceded in death by two children: Karen Isaacs and Charlie Allen “Dobbin” Isaacs; and five siblings; Ann, Billy, Bobby, Ernest and Ronnie Isaacs.

Jewell Dean Durham Fox

    Jewell Dean Durham Fox, age 89, of Red Lick Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2020 at the Marcum and Wallace Hospital following a short illness.
    She was born November 25, 1930 in Estill County to the late John Durham and Mamie Turner Durham. She was a homemaker and a member of the Jehovah Witness Church. She lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Mrs. Fox was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Dennis Fox.
    She is survived by two daughters: Sharon Rogers (Rick) and Cheryl Fox (Jimmy), both of Estill County; one sister, Jeanette Stepp, Ohio; one brother, Dale Durham, Estill County; nine grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and three great, great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Durham; and four brothers: Fred Durham, Lavon Durham, Tommy Durham and Harold Durham.
    Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
