    Brian Scott Isaacs, age 46, of Turner Avenue in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2020, at his home.
    He was born July 3, 1974 in Estill County and was the son of Nathan and Betty Hisel Isaacs. He was mason and had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Melissa Murphy Isaacs; one daughter, Ashley Isaacs, Irvine; one son, Aaron Scott Isaacs (Tamara), Irvine; two stepchildren: Adrian Rogers and Jacob Murphy (Amber), Irvine; one brother, Bradley Isaacs (Kimberly), Irvine; and six grandchildren.
    Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday, December 2, 2020, 11:00 a.m., at the West Irvine Cemetery by Bro. Chris Greene.

    Marcia Watkins Evans, age 42, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at her residence.
    Born in Jamaica, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Barbara Watkins. She was a anatomy professor at EKU for 10 years.
    Mrs. Evans is survived by her husband, Dwayne Evans; three sons: Ethan Evans, Tristian Evans and Payton Evans; two daughters: Liz Evans and Lexi Evans; and two sisters: Barbara Campbell and Beth Watkins.
    A memorial service will be held at a later date.

    Teresa Sparks, age 59, of Irvine, Kentucky, wife of David Sparks passed away Friday, November 27, 2020.
    She was born May 12, 1961 in Hazard, Kentucky, to Custer and Glenda Walker. She was a housewife.
    Mrs. Sparks is survived by her husband, David Sparks of Irvine; a daughter, Anna Combs of Berea; two grandchildren, Brady and Bryson Peters; one brother, Clayton Walker; and a sister, Tammi Fields.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Custer and Glenda Walker; and two sisters, Deborah and Cleo Walker.
    Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at the Grayson Funeral Home Chapel in Irvine. Friends may visit Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. 'till time of the service.

    Troy Lee Mullins, Jr., age 49, of Parsons Lane in Lexington, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2020, at his home following a short illness.
    He was born June 12, 1971 in Lexington and was the son of Gail Stacy Mullins and the late Troy Lee Mullins, Sr. He was an accountant with Conduent and was a member of the Rice Station Christian Church and attended the Crossroad Christian Church. He was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky and was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.
    Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Angela Megan Zeller Mullins; his daughter, Erica Renee Mullins; and his son, Kyle Edward Mullins.
    Due to Covid-19, private funeral services will be conducted at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home by Bro. Mike Chism with burial at the South Irvine Cemetery.
    In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the South Irvine Christian Church.

    Betty Ann Hall, age 75, of Winchester Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2020, at her home.
    She was born December 23, 1944 in Dayton, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Homer Charles and Fannie Colter Charles Strange. She was retired from Carhartt, Inc. and had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Mrs. Hall is survived by her husband, Beverly Francis Hall; two daughters: Beverly Ann Means, Estill County; and Sheila Blackwell (David), Madison County; one son, Randy Walter Hall (Rebecca) Estill County; six sisters: Mary Richardson, Glyndena Morefield, and Linda Goosey, all of Estill County; Barbara Dykes, Fayette County; Juanita McKinney, Estill County; and Zoba, Montgomery County; one brother, Wendall Muncie, Estill County; six grandchildren: Chris Means, Andrew Means, Austin Blackwell, Shaun Blackwell, William Hall and Madison Hall; three great grandchildren: Kaden Means, Molly Pickering and Raylynn Means; and a special friend, Kathy Harrison.
    She was preceded in death by three siblings, Claudia Isaacs, Louise Charles and Beverly Gene Charles.
    Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday, December 2, 2020, 1:00 p.m., at the Wood Cemetery.

Laverne McKinney Tharpe

    Laverne Tharpe, age 89, widow of Eugene Tharpe, of Stanton, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020 at Baptist Health Lexington.
    Born in Irvine, Kentucky on May 8, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Mountz McKinney and the late Eunice Wells McKinney. She was former head cook at Powell County Middle School and attended Vaughns Mill First Church of God and Hatton Creek Community Church.
    In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, MaDonna Rose Tharpe Bowen; three brothers: David Anderson McKinney, Ferrell Ray McKinney and Kendall McKinney; and five sisters: Mildred Estes, Thelma Bishop, Wilma Bishop, Irene Olinger and Beulah Ann McKinney.
    Laverne is survived by her daughter, Brenda Smith (Bill); her grandson, Steven L, Bowen, II (Stephanie); her great grandchild, Kedir Bowen; and four sisters: Eldoria "Dody" Johnson, Kathlene Rogers (Jearl), Janet Flippo, and Berniece Wills.
    Funeral services officiated by Bro. John Combs will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Hearne Funeral Home, Inc., 125 West College Avenue, Stanton. Visitation begins at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 1st at the funeral home. Burial will be in Tharpe Cemetery with Steven Bowen, II, Steven Bowen, Kedir Bowen, J. L. Paul D. Smith

    Paul D. Smith, age 81, beloved husband, father and believer in Christ, passed away Monday, November 23, 2020, next to his wife Jane, his devoted wife and companion of 60 years and mother of their precious daughter Renee Risner of Clark County. Throughout most of their married life, he and Jane enjoyed simple things like working with horses and cattle, being outdoors, attending church and caring for their beautiful hillside farm in the Pilot View community.
    He was born May 27, 1939 in Perry County, Kentucky, to the late George and Alma Edwards Smith. He was the youngest of their 10 children. Paul attended Trapp and Pilot View Elementary Schools, Clark County High School, the University of Kentucky and Georgetown College.
    After graduating from Georgetown, he worked 40 years for East Kentucky Power Cooperative at Dale Station with a hard-working team that brought light, power and a better way of life to thousands of rural Kentucky families.
    He was a member and believer in the Primitive Baptist faith for 50 plus years. He often said that nothing that any man has done could ever compare with what Jesus Christ did by dying a cruel death nailed to a cross to give His children the gift of salvation. Paul believed in the absolute sovereignty of God, saying the He is — and always will be — in control. Everything happens according to His eternal decrees established when He laid the foundations of the world.
    In addition to being a devoted father, Paul deeply loved Jane and their granddaughters, Dr. Elizabeth Durham (Donovan) of London and Laura Reed (Dillon) of Williamsburg.
    He is survived by his brother, Charles E. Smith (Lucille) of Irvine; and cousin, Steve Curtis of Winchester.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, June Curtis, Jetta Elkin, Travis Smith, Jewell Hall, Burtis Smith, Clyde Smith, Willie Smith, and a baby brother.
    Family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his caregivers, Connie Curtis and Rachel Gross.
    Visitation was at the Scobee Funeral Home, 219 West Lexington Avenue, Winchester, starting at 12:00 Noon on Friday, November 27, 2020, with the service beginning at 1:00 p.m., followed by burial at Winchester Cemetery. Presiding was Brother Ben Cordes.
    Pallbearers included Ray York, Anthony Childers, Doug Rupard, Donovan Durham, Dillon Reed and Kevin Osbourn.

    James Michael Yarber Sr., age 69, passed away on Thursday, November, 26, 2020 at his residence in Irvine, Kentucky, after a short illness.
    He was born April 4, 1951 in Oneida, Clay County, Kentucky. He was an employee of Aramark Landscaping.
    Mr. Yarber is survived by his wife, Victoria Yarber; two sons: Earl Yarber and James Yarber Jr.; two daughters: Jamie Himes and Marsha Sparks; four brothers: Donnie Yarber, David Yarber, Shelby Yarber and Lester Yarber; four sisters: Faye Rogers, Mary Callahan, Khristine Pittman and Wanda Richmond; 15 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

    She was born March 16, 1936 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Jeff and Edna Wolfinbarger Campbell. She was a homemaker and had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Mrs. Fowler was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Lee Fowler, and is survived by her daughter, Donna Lynn Gassett (Paul), Estill County; two grandchildren: Matthew and Jacob Gassett; and one great grandchild, Dustin Jacob Gassett.
    She was preceded in death by her sister, Allie Mainous.

She was a homemaker and former employee of Quality Manufacturing and the Irvine Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She attended the Roadside Mission and had lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Mrs. Hall is survived by her husband, Allie Hall, Jr.; four sons: Lonnie Cooper, David Charles (Melissa), Teddy Charles (Samantha), and Matthew Charles, all of Powell County; one sister, Beatrice Cooper Tassell, Georgia; one brother, Robert Hugh Cooper, South Carolina; and ten grandchildren.

    He was born in Estill County, April 16, 1931 to Willie and Eva Lamb Scenters. He was retired from Central Bank and was a member of the Body of Christ Ministry.
    Mr. Scenters is survived by one son, Dallas Scenters (Jenny); four daughters: Lisa Powell, Cletta Lucas, Jaymie Jo Asa Barreto (Rick), and Ivie Evans (Randall); ten grandchildren; and two sisters: Opal Riddell and Gracie Estes.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Eva Lamb Scenters; his wife, Margaret Scenters; a son, Edward Scenters; a grandson, Jonathan Barreto; three brothers: Floyd Scenters, Wesley Scenters, and Clyde Scenters; and two sisters: Emily Stone and Mamie Gordon.

    She was born August 6, 1943 in Mingo County, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Taylor and Matewood Farley Hatfield. She was a homemaker and former employee of Ravenna Food Mart, Food World and Irvine Health Care. She attended the Ravenna Nazarene Church and had lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Mrs. Thacker was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus Wayne Thacker, Sr., and is survived by three sons: Marcus W. Thacker, Jr. (Donna), Ravenna; Hoy V. Thacker (Teresa), Irvine; Jesse T. Thacker (Sandy), Ravenna; one daughter, Matewood Kortbein, Ravenna; one sister, Mercedes Jordan, Mississippi; one brother, Halcy Hatfield, West Virginia; six grandchildren: Marcus W. Thacker III, Michael A. Thacker, Jessica D. Thacker, Dylan J. Kortbein, Jason T. Thacker and Gavin M. Thacker; and two great grandchildren: Ava M. Kortbein and Felix A. Flynn.

    Leon B. Curtis, age 87, a resident of the Stanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020, at the Center following a short illness.
    He was born February 12, 1933 in Estill County and was the son of the late Harlan and Millie Ann Woosley Curtis. He was a retired roofer and builder and a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
    Mr. Curtis was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Riddell Curtis.
    He is survived by two daughters: Tammy S. Young (Gary) and Christy Curtis, both of Irvine; two sons: Terry Curtis (Eppie) and Donald Curtis (Beth), both of Irvine; one sister, Ann Anderson, Ravenna; five grandchildren: Heather Jones, Teresa Morrow, Michael Curtis, Madison Webb and Logan Dixon; and four great grandchildren: Chloe Reed, Kailee Reed, Cass Curtis and Maddie Curtis.
    Mr. Curtis was preceded in death by two siblings, Zelma Guillicci and Edgar Curtis.

Earl Junior Sparks

    Earl Junior Sparks, age 85, of Chapel Hill, Tennessee, formerly of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, November 20, 2020 at NHC Healthcare Oakwood in Lewisburg, Tennessee.
    Mr. Sparks, the son of the late Isaac Thomas and Mary Margaret Shearer Sparks, was born in Estill County, Kentucky, on June 1, 1935. He retired from Forrest School in Chapel Hill as a Custodian. He loved singing and playing his guitar and harmonica. Bird watching and gardening were among his favorite past times. He was a member of White Hall Holiness Church.
    He was united in marriage to Ruby Mae Barrett Sparks who preceded him in death.
    Survivors include: three sons: Flemon Sparks (Doris) of Springfield, TN, Michael Sparks (Darla) and Marcus Sparks (Sherry), all of Richmond; one daughter, Kim Bourland (James) of Chapel Hill, TN; one brother, Herman Sparks; his sister, Coffa Embrey; six grandchildren: Amanda Iler (Jesse), Tyler Sparks (Samantha), Andrea Fitzgerald (Dustin), Rachel Shearon (Thomas), Amber Nava (Abraham) and Corey Sparks; seven great grandchildren; two step grandchildren: Jessica Hughes (Nathan) and James Mitchell; five step great grandchildren; his brother-in-law, James Still; two sisters-in-law: Marquita Sparks and Shelia Sparks; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
    Mr. Sparks was also preceded in death by two sons: Charles Earl Sparks and Danny Sparks; six brothers: William Arthur, James, John, Glendon, Delbert Eugene and Sydney Sparks Sr.; and four sisters: Addie Sparks, Nannie Sparks, Lillian Culton and Elsie Still.
    Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, private services will be held at the Pine Grove Pentecostal Holiness Assembly with Rev. Sydney Sparks, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Boian Cemetery in Estill County.

    Roger Dunn Dawes, 69, of Dark Hollow Road in Irvine passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020 at his home following a long illness.
    He was born October 8, 1951 in Estill County and was the son of the late Orville and Anna Mae Farthing Dawes. He had been a construction worker all his life and was a member of the Irvine Masonic Lodge. He was also a former member of the National Guard.
    Mr. Dawes is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sheree Harrison Dawes; one daughter, Aimee Ormes (Beattle), Estill County; one son, Roger Bryan Dawes (Cathy), Estill County; two sisters: Doris Harrison and Marlene Rawlins, both of Estill County; one brother, Norman Dawes, Madison County; and four grandchildren: Jacob Cantrell, Kolby Dawes, Tatum Cantrell and Jacquee Cantrell.
    He was preceded in death by one grandchild, Kaydi Jo Dawes; and his brother, Orville Wayne Dawes.

    Betty Lou Willis, age 63, wife of 45 years to Thomas Willis, passed away Friday, November 20, 2020 at her home, surrounded by family.
    She was born August 16, 1957 in Estill County, Kentucky, to the late James and Laura Bell Estes Coffey. Mrs. Willis loved going to church and loved her family; especially her children and grandchildren. She was of the holiness faith.
    Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ronnie Coffey; and one sister, Martha Carolyn Rogers.
    In addition to her husband, Thomas Willis, she is survived by one daughter, Connie Means (Roger) of Berea; two sons: Edgar Willis of Paint Lick, and Charlie Willis of Berea; six brothers: Bruce Coffey of Irvine, Denny Coffey (Sue) of Waco, Harold Coffey (Amy) of Berea, Leon Coffey (Betty Shuler) of Irvine; Ernie Coffey (Debbie) of Lancaster, and Wade Coffey Gail) of Waco; her adopted sister, Linda Johnson of Irvine; and three grandchildren, Josh Willis, Jonathon Means, and Helen Willis, all of Berea.

    Hazel Jo Sherrard, age 84, of Main Street in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, November 20, 2020, at her home.
    She was born October 24, 1936 in Madison County and was the daughter of the late William Dan and Dorothy Richardson Moore. She was retired from B G Sherrards Jewelry, was an apprentice watch maker and a past President of the Kentucky Jewelers Association. She was a member of the Irvine First Christian Disciples of Christ and one of the original founders of the Mushroom Festival.
    Mrs. Sherrard is survived by her husband, Bobby G. Sherrard; one daughter, Jackqueline Jo Graves (Allen), Fayette County; two sons: Robert Daniel Sherrard (Kimberly), Franklin County; and Harold Glenn “Howie” Sherrard (Staci), Carter County; one sister, Vivian Kaye Daugherty, Estill County; and seven grandchildren: Marisol Isabella Graves, Sutton Sherrard, Carrington Sherrard, London Sherrard, Samuel Calvin Sherrard, Mary Grace Sherrard and Jacob Paul Sherrard.
    She was preceded in death by her sister, Gloria Wolfinbarger.
    Due to Covid-19, graveside services will be conducted Monday, November 23, 2020, 1:00 p.m., at the Sunset Memorial Gardens by Bro. Greg Humpert.
    Pallbearers were Jimmy Barnes, John Duvall, Samuel Sherrard, Allen Graves, Chris Green, Wayne Johnson and Jacob Sherrard.

Barbara Newton Welch

    Barbara Newton Welch, age 88, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Madison Health and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Kentucky, after a short illness.
    She was born March 13, 1932 in Estill County, and was the daughter of the late Wilgus and Addie Witt Newton. Barbara and her late husband, Robert M. Welch, owned and operated Bob's Supermarket for 44 years in Ravenna. She was a lifelong member of Station Camp Christian Church where she the pianist and a Sunday School teacher. She loved her community and was a member of the Four Seasons Garden Club and the Estill County Homemakers. Along with her garden club, she helped develop the Monarch butterfly way station at the West Irvine Intermediate School.
    She is survived by her son, Robert M. Welch Jr.; one daughter, Susan W. Tipton; three grandchildren: Oliver T. Welch, Robert T. Tipton, and Elizabeth K. Renner; and four great grandchildren, Holly, Tori and Olivia Welch, and Colton Renner.
    She is preceded in death by one sister, Onnalee Boardman; and three brothers: Nelson, Douglas and Elmo Newton.
    Funeral services officiated by Bro. Scott Beauchamp were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Lewis-Abner Funeral Home in Irvine. Visitation began at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, at the funeral home. Burial was in Oakdale Cemetery with Oliver Welch, Jeff Renner, David Newton, Anthony Newton, Seth Newton and Jonathan Newton serving as active pallbearers.

Anna M. Harrison

    Anna M. Harrison, age 51, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Clark Regional Medical Center. A native of Winchester, Kentucky, she was born on June 14, 1969, to the late Kelly and Myrtle Walling Harrison.
    She is survived by one daughter, Kelley Webb (Kaleb) of North Carolina; four sisters and five brothers.
    No services are planned at this time.

Vada Rea Abshear

    Vada Rea Abshear, age 91, a resident of The Willows at Citation Drive in Lexington, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at Baptist Health in Lexington following a short illness.
    She was born October 4, 1929 in Dayton, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Earl Raymond Howell and Lelah White Williams Howell. She was a retired Kroger employee and a member of the River Drive Christian Church.
    Mrs. Abshear was preceded in death by her husband, Cleveland Brown Abshear; and is survived by three daughters: Deborah Ann Calvert, Marthalyn Brown Blythe, and Lisa Carol Ransdell, all of Lexington; one sister, Shirley Hellmueller, Ft. Myers, Florida; and six grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by five siblings, Mary “Kay” Christopher, Wilda Elliott, Wilma Woodley, Chock Howell and Bill Howell.
    Visitation was held Friday, November 20, 2020, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon, at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home. Graveside services were conducted following at 12:00 Noon at the Sunset Memorial Gardens.
