Carolyn Sue Reed, age 84, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020, at the Kenwood Health & Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Kentucky, following a short illness.
She was born February 9, 1936 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Carl and Ruth Rison Barnett. She was a homemaker and attended the Panola Baptist Church.
Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by her husband, Tracy Edward Reed; and is survived by five daughters: Barbara Conner,
Brenda Burgess, and Rayette Harrison, all of Madison County; Donette Snowden, and Angela Reed, both of Indiana; three sons: Larry Reed, Billy Reed, both of Estill County; and Steve Reed, Indiana; 23 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Visitation for the public will be held Wednesday, December 30, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home. Private funeral services will be held with burial at the Cobb Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Hershel Clay Hatton, age 84, of Ticky Fork Drive in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Friday, December 25, 2020, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Lexington, following a short illness.
He was born March 29, 1936 in Estill County and was the son of the late John W. and Florence D. Frazier Hatton. He was a retired Martina Brothers employee and was a member of the Apostolic Church. He was a United States Army veteran and served in the Combat Engineers.
Mr. Hatton is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elwanda Horn Hatton; his daughter: Sherri Faye Hatton Woody (Mitchell), North Carolina; two grandchildren: Samantha N. Woody and Justin M. Woody; and one great grandchild, Ella Mae Woody.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Lelia King, Frances Hatton, Ruby Hatton, Evelyn Rogers, Edith Sparks; and four brothers, William H., Harold, Harlie E. and Herbert Hatton.
Visitation for the public will be held Monday, December 28, 2020, from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home. Private funeral services were conducted by Bro. Jeremy Peavie with burial at the Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Matthew Watson, David Watson, Randall Sparks, Charles Clark, Johnathan Bush, Noah Watson, and Nathaniel Watson.

Alverta Farris, age 70, of Winston Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, December 25, 2020, at her home following a sudden illness.
She was born March 1, 1950 in Madison County and was the daughter of the late Clayton and Jessie Mae Hardy Brandenburg. She was a retired caretaker and a member of the Providence Baptist Church.
Alverta is survived by two daughters: Jennifer DeSpain (Rob), Florida; and Robin Farris, Louisville; one son, Thomas Farris (Christy), Tennessee; three sisters: Lena Rhodus, Louisiana; Teresa Hughes, Texas; and Rene West, Madison County; one brother, Ronald Brandenburg, Tennessee; five grandchildren and and great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Brandenburg.
Visitation for the public will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2020, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Providence Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 30th, 11:00 a.m., at the Church by Bro. Tim Roberts and Bro. Bill VanWinkle.

Bobbie Lewis Woosley, age 81, died Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Golden Rule nursing home in Richmond, Indiana.
Bobbie was born to John Wilson and Leoma Howard Woosley on March 27, 1939 in Estill County, Kentucky. He married Gladys Vires, May 22, 1964, in Liberty, Indiana, and together they had four beautiful children. Bobbie had a passion for cars, watching nature shows, and mushroom hunting. He enjoyed tipping back the occasional beer and playing cards with his friends. Bobbie will be remembered as a man who was liked by all, and will be truly missed by those who knew him.
Bobbie is survived by his sons: John Lewis Woosley (Kimberly), Donald “Glenn” Woosley (Misty), and Christopher Lee Woosley; a daughter, Patricia Kelly (Clifford); a sister, Janice Reynolds of Irvine, Kentucky; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Bobbie is preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Woosley; and a sister, Faye Havens.
A private funeral service will be conducted at the convenience of the family.

Valdah Christine Thomas Smith, age 92, widow of Buford D. “Smitty” Smith, passed away Friday, December 25, 2020 at Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, Kentucky.
She was born on May 16, 1928 in Estill County to the late Beachum and Jennetta "Nettie" Walton Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church.
Mrs. Smith is survived by daughters, Paulette Snowden (Ronnie) and Pam Staton (Dennis); a son, Randy Smith (Lesa); grandchildren, Ronnie Snowden Jr. (Sarah Jane), Brooke Snowden, Tara Kirk (Robbie), Michelle Hollon, Kristin Smith, and Devin Smith; great grandchildren, Oliver Snowden, Crosby Snowden, Kaitlyn Shoemaker, Blake Shoemaker, Jacob Sandefur and Jazlyn Higgins; her sister-in-laws, Betty Smith and Ruby Moore; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by nine siblings.
Private graveside services will be held at Clarmont Memorial Gardens by Reverend Jerry Johns.

JT Powell, age 93, of Clay City, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2020 at the Irvine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Estill County, May 2, 1927 to Francis Marion "Frank" Powell Jr. and Annie Warner Powell. He was a retired veteran of the United States Marine Corps and the Blue Grass Army Depot.
Mr. Powell is survived by a son, Glen Powell; a daughter, Patricia Miller (Roger), six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Marion Jr. and Annie Warner Powell; a daughter, Ima Jean Cord; a grandson, Jason Miller; five brothers, Cecil, Owen, Estill, Tom, and Raymond Powell; and two sisters, Mildred Collins and Marie Young.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 28, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at the Grayson Funeral Home Chapel, 201 7th Avenue in Clay City, followed by a graveside service at 12:00 Noon at the Powell’s Valley Cemetery in Clay City with Bro. Marion Brewer officiating..

Larry Dean Collins, age 65, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
He was born April 15, 1955 in Jackson, Kentucky, to Herbert and Betty Fugate Collins. He was a pastor of the Full Gospel Evangelistic Ministries in Irvine for the past 25 years.
Mr. Collins is survived by his father, Herbert Collins; his wife, Sheila Collins; two daughters: Stephane Taulbee (Billy Jr.) and Bobbie Miller (Michael); six grandchildren, two great grandchildren; a brother, Tom Collins (Janie); and a sister, Yolanda Anderson (Rob).
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Fugate Collins; two brothers, Merlin and Linville Collins; and three sisters, Belinda, Sherry and Rebecca Collins.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 26, 2020 at the Full Gospel Evangelistic Ministries, 400 Duck Wear Road, Irvine, with Bro. Bill Wesley officiating. Friends may visit Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service. Burial will follow in the Larry Collins Cemetery in Irvine.

Thelma Faye Richardson, age 86, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at the Kenwood Health & Rehab Center.
She was born in Estill County, Kentucky on March 25, 1934 to the late Harlow and Susan Harris Richardson. Thelma was of the Christian Faith and was baptized in 1961 at the Newby Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Garnett Isbell Jr. (Myra); a special niece, Sue Byrd (Tony); one brother, Paul Richardson; one sister, Eula Johnson (Billy); as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Hubert, Ed and Earl Richardson; and her twin sister who passed away at 6 months old, Orie May Richardson.
A graveside service will be conducted at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at the Berea Cemetery where entombment will follow. Due to COVID-19 mandates, social distancing and face coverings are requested.

Joretta Newton Estes, age 70, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, December 21, 2020 at Baptist Health in Richmond.
Born in Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Fleming and Rowena Roberts Newton. Joretta was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Gary Estes.
Joretta is survived by her two sons, Jeff Estes (Brenda) of Fayette County; and Brian Estes (Pam) of Estill County; one brother, Dick Newton (Debbie) of Florida; two sisters: Pat Brown of Florida, and Joline Hughes (Charles) of Estill County; and three grandchildren, Adam Estes, Megan Estes, and Lily Estes, all of Estill County.
Funeral services officiated by Bro. Chris Greene will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Lewis-Abner Funeral Home. Public visitation begins at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, until time of service. Pleasant Davis, age 79, of Reges Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020, at his home.
He was born August 18, 1941 in Estill County and was the son of the late James and Mary Ann McKinney Davis. He was a former employee of Davis H. Elliott Electric and attended the Baptist Church. He was a musician who enjoyed playing the guitar, mandolin, banjo and french harp.
Pleas had lived in Estill County most of his life and is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wanda Whitted Davis; two daughters: Sharon Young (Michael), Morehead; and Regina Davis, Irvine; one son, Stanley Davis, Irvine; a sister, Elaine Powell (Gary), Ravenna; three brothers: James Davis (Joann), Ohio; Johnny Davis, Richmond; and Patrick Doyle (Cheryl), Tennessee;
two grandchildren: Christina Manes and Amanda Young; and two great grandchildren, Lily and Johnathan
He was preceded in death by one son, Gary Davis; and five siblings, Opal Chaney, Mattie Goeltzenleuchter, Donna McIntosh, Betty Chaney and Larry Paul Davis.
Private graveside services were held Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at the Turpin Cemetery by Donnie Watson.

Woodrow W. Dixon, Jr., age 77, of McKee Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, December 21, 2020, at the Irvine Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following a sudden illness.
He was the son of the late Woodrow W. Dixon and Mollie Sparks Dixon Estes and had lived in Estill County most of his life. He was a retired Trane employee and a former member of the National Guard. He was a devout Christian and attended the Providence Baptist Church.
Mr. Dixon is survived by his wife of many good years, Levaron Harrison Dixon; his daughter, Angela Lopell Dixon, Irvine; a sister, Frances Martin (Marvin), Irvine; two brothers: Jacob Estes (Connie) and Jack Maness (Laura), both of Irvine; and a sister-in-law, Opal Gadd, Berea.
He was preceded in death by two siblings, Matilda Richardson and Michael Maness.
Visitation for the public was held Wednesday, December 23, 2020, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home. Private funeral services were conducted Thursday, December 24th by Bro. Tim Roberts and Bro. Billy Lyndon Stamper with burial at the Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Daniel Plowman, Cecil Plowman, Howard Rogers, Kenny Webb, Sam Sparks and Sam Berryman.

Mattie Mageleen Spicer, age 53 of Pikeville, Kentucky, formerly of Irvine, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at the Pikeville Medical Center. She was a retired state employee and of the Freewill Baptist faith.
She was born in Pikeville, Kentucky on July 17, 1967, the daughter of the late Glenn and Marquita Cole Snodgrass.
Mattie is survived by three sisters, Kathleen Sneed of Shelbiana, Lahoma Ellis of Pikeville, and Harriet Collins (Travis) of Pompey, Kentucky. She is also survived by two nieces, Molly Meade and Crystal Lynn Weddington; a nephew, Joshua Paul Sneed; and two great nieces, Harley Paige Newsome and Lexus R. Robinson.
A Memorial Service In Honor of Mattie’s Life will be held at a later date.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Elmer Fike, Glyndon Fike, Delbert Fike, Graydon Fike, and Gayle Fike; and five sisters, Thetus Flynn, Beatrice Fike, Mayfra Binegar, Rachel Kelley, and Opal Fike.
Garrett is survived by his wife, Wilma Fike of Irvine; one son, Garrett Steven Fike; one daughter, Felicia Campbell (Tony) of Irvine; one brother, Marcum Fike of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Brandon Campbell (Mary Lynn), Toni-Garrett Hall (Chris), Steven Campbell (Beth), Cory Cox, and Cody Cox, all of Irvine; Clay Fike, Carlie Fike, Caitlin Fike, all of Winchester; and seven great grandchildren, Garrett Hall, Hannah Hall, Grace Hall, Landon Campbell, Katie Campbell, Levi Garrett Campbell, and Anna Beth Campbell.

Katherine Turpin Kaylor, age 98, of Bybee, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at the Terrace Nursing Facility in Berea.
She was born in Estill County, on March 29, 1922 to the late Charles Henry and Nora Belle Hatton Turpin. She was a former cafeteria employee of the Waco School and also enjoyed working in her garden and spending time with her family. Mrs. Kaylor was of the Nazarene faith.
Survivors include her daughters, Cornelia Rice (Waldo), and Judy Walters (Billy); three brothers, Eugene Turpin (Charlotte), James Turpin (Betty), and Forest Turpin; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren, and five great, great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Kaylor; three brothers, Henry, Charles and Johnny Turpin; and two sisters, Christine Gentry and Eva Schoenrock.
Private graveside services will be conducted at the Turpin Cemetery, Winston Loop Road, Irvine, with Bro. Kenneth Bishop and Bro. Sherl Thomas officiating.

Iza D. Robinson, 84, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Madison Health & Rehab. in Richmond, Kentucky.
Mr. Robinson was born on October 18, 1936 in Irvine, Kentucky, and was the son of Beechum Howard and Dessie Parker Robinson, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a retired truck driver. Mr. Robinson was a faithful member of Abundant Life Ministries and loved reading his Bible.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mayfrey Ann Harrison Robinson; a son, Mitchell Robinson; and two sisters, Reatha Turner and Ruby Gordon.
Survivors include two sons, Marvin Robinson (Becky) of Lebanon, Ohio; and Michael Robinson (Amee) of Irvine; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home in Richmond with Bro. Edwin Lainhart and Bro. Chad Lainhart officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hamilton, Ohio. Visitation was from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Robert Rose “Sugar Bear” McGuffey, Jr., age 51, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, December 14, 2020 at Baptist Health-Lexington.
A Nicholas County native born March 23, 1969, he was a 1987 graduate of Nicholas County High School, worked for many years as a sales manager for Blue Ribbon Rental, Rent-a-Center & Aaron’s and was a member of the Wesley Chapel C.M.E. Church. Sugar Bear enjoyed both playing and watching sports, especially the Kansas City Chiefs. He was always working, having several “projects” going at once. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren. Bear had a smile that could light up a room.
Surviving are his mother, Ellen McGuffey of Carlisle; three children: Alyssa, Ashley and Andrew McGuffey, all of Louisville; four grandchildren: Jamirah, Jessie Rose and Jamilynn McGuffey and Ashtyn Johnson; a brother, Brandon McGuffey of Lexington; a sister, Jennifer Bussell of Michigan; an aunt, Anna Beckham of Louisville; an uncle, Asbury McGuffey Jr. of Lexington; three close cousins: Mark Beckham, Angela Moore and Michael Potts; a special friend, Darlene; two longtime friends, Derwin Howard and Tip Fryman; and a large extended family.
Preceding him in death are his father, Robert Rose “Bob” McGuffey, Sr.; a son, Andre Hilton Norris McGuffey; a brother, Nathaniel Hilton McGuffey; and his aunt, Roberta McKee.
Services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 18, 2020 at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home, 105 Locust Street, Carlisle, Kentucky, by Rev. Randy Taylor. Burial will follow in the Carlisle Cemetery
Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon Friday until the time of service.

Mrs. Estes was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Odell Estes; and her son, Bobby Ray Estes.
She is survived by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren: Karen Brandenburg (Jr.), Sharon Pelfrey, Stephanie Durbin (Greg), Vickie Ross (Jerry), Crystal Estes Dodson and children Jace and Anya; Rebecca Estes Meadows and son Lijah; John Moore (Mikie) and children Serena and Payton; Randall Brandenburg (Samantha) and children Hunter, Hallie, Harper, Callie and Ethan; and Andrea Miller (Mikie) and children Jaycie and Emilynn; a sister: Opal Riddell; a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Dawes was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Dawes; and is survived by two daughters: Paula Dawes Snowden (Shannon), Louisville; and Diane Dawes Harris (Ricky), Irvine; one sister, Christine Kirby, Irvine; one granddaughter, Olivia Lavryn Snowden; and one step-grandson, Andrew Snowden.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Nannie Jean Melton, Pauline Melton and Cleo Kirby.

She was born August 29, 1950 in Estill County, a daughter of the late Dillard and Juanita King Morris. She was formerly a Dietary Assistant with the Marcum and Wallace Memorial Hospital. She had lived in Estill County most of her life and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Richardson is survived by two daughters: LaVelle Tipton (Paul) and Mindy McCool (Charlie), both of Estill County; and five grandchildren: Christian Tipton, Elizabeth Tipton, Jackson McCool, Elijah McCool, and Liam McCool.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Barnes.

Born April 26, 1960 in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of the late James and Mary Margaret Estes Morris and a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Irvine, Kentucky. Fudd drove the semi for the Estill County Engineers marching band from 2010-2015. He loved his family and friends more than anything, and he enjoyed talking to everyone that he met.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Jeanine "Sis" Tipton.
Fudd is survived by his wife, Sharon Morris; one daughter, Mary Beth Morris (John McIntosh); two brothers, Beverly "Bo" Morris (Madeline) and Paul Morris (Lorrie); and one sister, Bobbie Bowman (Bob Duncan).
Funeral services officiated by Bro. Scott Rogers will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Lewis-Abner Funeral Home. Public visitations begins at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 16th at the funeral home until 9:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Morris Family Cemetery with Bill Mullins, Shannon Edmonson, Mike Pruyear, Dale Skinner, Charles Skinner and Larry Sons serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Mike Tyree.

Billy Don Stamper, age 80, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, December 14, 2020 at his residence.
Born March 19, 1940 in Estill County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Alex and Haynes Miller Stamper. Billy was a fiddle maker; he loved Bluegrass music and playing with his buddies. He was also famous for "Billy's Waltz" that he had published. Even though he loved Bluegrass music he loved his wife and her cooking more.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Stamper.
Billy is survived by sons, John Stamper (Patsy) and Billy D. Stamper Jr. (Carrie), all of Estill County; one daughter, Delores Pearson of Estill County; one sister, Margarete Dunn (Billy) of Estill County; and two grandchildren, Alex Lynn Stamper and September Dawn Stamper.
Funeral services officiated by Bro. Larry Neal will be held on Friday, December 18, 2020 at Lewis-Abner Funeral Home. Public visitations begins at 11:00 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home until time of service. Burial will be in the Campbell Cemetery with Sam Miller, Aubrey Miller, Jimmy Miller and Jason Dunn serving as active pallbearers.

John Russell “Johnny” Turpin, 75, of Waco, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2020 at his home.
Mr. Turpin, the son of Charles Henry and Nora Belle Hatton Turpin, was born in Madison County on October 12, 1945. He was a farmer and enjoyed street rods and car shows. He had been attending the House of Prayer in Irvine.
On June 8, 1963, Mr. Turpin united in marriage to Brenda Evans Turpin who survives. They recently celebrated 57 years of marriage.
Johnny is also survived by two sons: Bobby Turpin (Brenda) of Waco and John Brent Turpin of Irvine; his daughter, Roxanne Abner (Jeff) of Jackson County; three brothers: Eugene Turpin (Charlotte), James Turpin (Betty) and Forest Turpin; one sister, Katherine Kaylor; three grandchildren: Emma Carson Turpin, Summer Abner, Josh Abner; five great grandchildren: Andrew Marcum, Brennon Willis, Clayton Combs, Lakenzie Noe and Ava Jane Noe; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Turpin was also preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Turpin and Charles Turpin; and two sisters, Christine Gentry and Eva Schoenrock.
The family has chosen private services with burial in the Flatwoods Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Terry Portwood, Ray Dixon, Roy Webb, Josh Abner, Anthony Combs and Jimmy Webb.
The Combs, Parson & Collins Funeral Home of Richmond was in charge of the arrangements.
