Frances Elizabeth Johnson Day

    Frances Elizabeth Johnson Day, age 74, of Grindstone Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away from cancer on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at her home.
    She was born September 17, 1946 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Clarence and Virginia Grace Willis Johnson. She was a homemaker and a member of the Rice Station Christian Church. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Mrs. Day was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Day.
    She is survived by her daughter, Opal Elizabeth “Beth” Day Spradlin (Stanley), Estill County; two sisters: Carolyn Gray and Nellie Farthing, both of Estill County; one grandchild, Logan Spradlin, Louisville; and six nieces.
    She was preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel Johnson and Ray Johnson; and an infant sister and brother.
    Visitation for the public will be held Monday, March 8, 2021, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home. Private funeral services will be conducted by Bro. Joe Hall with burial at the West Irvine Cemetery.

James Michael Chapman

    James Michael Chapman, age 68, of Nancy, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington.
    Born in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Almus Chapman and the late Ella Jean Smith Chapman and a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
    In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Jamie Chapman; a brother, Damon Ray Chapman; and a sister, Paula Combs.
    Mr. Chapman is survived by four sons: Lloyd Chapman (Whitney Ann) of Nancy, Michael Latham (Kacie) of Science Hill, Brian Chapman of Owingsville, and Kevin Butler (Tracie) of Somerset; one daughter, Crystal Chapman of Somerset; one brother, Almus Clinton "A. C." Chapman of Irvine; one sister, Vada Barnes of Irvine; and eight grandchildren: Emily Jean Shrout, Harley Shrout, Skyler Garcia, Javier Garcia, Michael Latham, Jr., Olivia Latham, Victoria Strong and Samantha Strong.
    Funeral services officiated by Bro. Ben Liston will be conducted at 5:00 p.m., Friday, March 5, 2021 at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton. Visitation is 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
    Burial with military honors will be in Donnie G. Randall Memorial Veterans Cemetery with Jamie Young, Lloyd Chapman, Michael Latham, Brian Chapman and Kevin Butler serving as pallbearers.

John Edward Arvin

    John Edward Arvin, age 50, of Kirkland Avenue in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, March 1, 2021.
    He was born May 23, 1970 in Estill County and was the son of the late Dwight and Diane Smithers Arvin. He worked as a farmer and at Arvin’s Meat Processing. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Arvin is survived by two sisters: Jackie Thacker and Kyle McIntosh (Randy), both of Estill County; one brother, Buddy Arvin (Charlotte), Estill County; five nieces: Meghan Mills (Jimmy), Tessla Dixon (Clinton), Lyda Rae Fauste (Charlie), Pauline Thacker and Kate Thacker; three nephews: JP Thacker, Elijah McIntosh and Kyran McIntosh; two great nieces: Heidi Dixon and Caroline Dixon; and three great nephews: Jace Mills, Rocky Mills and Beau Dixon.
    He was preceded in death by his brother, Dale Arvin; and a nephew, Aaron Arvin.
    Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Ruth Evelyn Blanton Rison

    Ruth Evelyn Blanton Rison, age 65, of Eades Drive in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2021, at her home, following a short illness.
    She was born March 6, 1955 in Clark County and was the daughter of the late Noah and Bertha Oliver Blanton. She was a long-time health care worker and a member of the Irvine First Church of God on Broadway. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Ruth is survived by her daughter, Christy May Moore (Tim), Lee County; two grandsons: Adam Blanton (Alicia) and Steven Coffey; two great grandchildren, Mason and Myla Blanton; two brothers: Walsa Blanton (Gladys) and Benny Blanton, both of Estill County; and six sisters: Blanche Lawson, Ohio; Mabel Winkler, Estill County; Betty Erkenbrecher, Ohio; Gladys Osborne, Clark County; Frances Riddell (John), Ohio; and Clara Christensen (Bruce), Scott County.
    She was preceded in death by her great grandson, Avery Matthew Blanton; and three sisters, Mary Lawson, Annie Banks and Gertrude Blanton.
    Visitation will be held Thursday, March 4, 2021, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Pine Grove Pentecostal Church. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 5th at 11:00 a.m. at the Church by Bro. Eric Patrick and Bro. Sidney Sparks. Burial will be at the Hall Cemetery.
    Pallbearers are Adam Blanton, Steven Coffey, Eric Banks, Walsa Blanton, John Riddell and Edward Erkenbrecher.
    Honorary pallbearers are Jon Covey and Kevin Winkler.

Gerald Hoskins

    Gerald Hoskins, age 83, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the Irvine Nursing and Rehab.
    He was born April 14, 1937 in Manchester, Kentucky. He was a retired Crane Operator.
    Mr. Hoskins is survived by three sons: Jacob Hoskins, Timothy Hoskins and Daniel Hoskins, all of Irvine; and a daughter, Nora Bowles (Christopher) of Jeffersonville.
    No services are planned at this time.

Bobbie Sue Aines

    Bobbie Sue Aines of Irvine, Kentucky, widow of James “Tim” Aines, passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington to her heavenly home on Sunday, February 28, 2021.
    She was the daughter of the late Park Wade and Lura Winkle Fowler. Born on March 30th, 1934 in Irvine, she was a graduate of Estill County High School, and a member of the White Oak Church of God. She worked as a senior secretary at IBM and retired with 30 years of service. During her retirement she was able to travel and as an avid UK basketball fan her favorite travels were to the SEC and NCAA tournaments.
    Mrs. Aines was preceded in death by her sisters, Argene Benton and Sharon Farmer.
    Survivors include her sisters: Mildred Cox and Charlotte (Paul) Roberts, both of Irvine; and many nieces and nephews.
    Along with extended family, Bobbie Sue leaves many friends, as she never met a stranger.
    Public visitation was held at the Warren Toler Funeral Home on Sunday, March 7, 2021, from from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Private funeral services were conducted by Bro. Glyndon Woosley with burial at the Clay City Eaton Cemetery.
    Pallbearers were Don Kral, Jeff Roberts, Patrick Tudor, Don Fowler, Doug Tudor and Roy Fowler.
    Honorary pallbearers were Robert Durbin, Larry Noland, Gerald Rader, the Flynn brothers and the Kral boys.

Nora “Lucy” Tipton

    Nora “Lucy” Tipton, age 71, of Pitts Road in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2021, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a long illness.
    She was born February 7, 1950 in Rockcastle County and was the daughter of the late Robert Damon and Virginia Sowder Carmack. She was a homemaker and a loving wife and mother. She attended the New Life Apostolic Church and had lived in Estill County most of her life.
    Mrs. Tipton is survived by her husband of 51 years, Max Tipton; three children: Donna Mullins (Larry), Fayette County; Barbara Martin (Bentley), Madison County; and James Tipton (Angie), Estill County; three sisters: Charlotte Farthing, Madison County; Janie Grooms and Gladys Wood, both of Ohio; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren that she adored.
    She was preceded in death by two siblings.
    Visitation for the public will be held Wednesday, March 3, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home. Private funeral services will be conducted by Bro. Mike Creech with burial at the Providence Cemetery in Brodhead, Kentucky.
    Pallbearers are Max Tipton, James Tipton, Bud Tucker, Kendall Baber, Larry Mullins and Austin McKinney.

James Arthur Abner

    James Arthur Abner, age 76, died Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Baptist Health in Richmond, Kentucky.
    He was born in Estill County on August 28, 1944 to the late Raymond and Daisy Lee Puckett Abner. He was a truck driver for twenty years. He loved to fish and hunt and loved UK basketball.
    Mr. Abner is survived by four sons: Jeff Abner (Cheryl), Richmond; James David Abner (Tessie), Boiling Springs, North Carolina; Kenneth Abner and Michael Abner (Tammy), both of Winnabow, North Carolina; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Harney Abner.
    Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Carlisle-Clark Funeral Home, 203 Eastern Avenue, Carlisle, with Deanna Case Bowling officiating with burial following in Millersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m.
    Pallbearers are David Abner, James Allen Abner, Kenneth Abner Jr., Bennie Buckler Sr., Raymond Abner, and Logan Bailey.

    Larry Green Wells, age 66, of Clay City, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2021 at the Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester.
    He was born July 9, 1954 in Clay City to Sam and Mattie Clay Tipton Wells. He was a veteran of the United States Army and enjoyed working with lawn mowers.
    Mr. Wells is survived by his wife, Patricia Wells of Clay City; a stepson, William Cottey (Farrah) of Germantown, Kentucky; two step-daughters BJ Lamb (Leon) of Florida and Cindy Cottey of Maysville; eight grandchildren, one great grandchild; and two sisters: Gathel Roberts (Leon) of Stanton and Shirley Conner of Clay City,
    He was preceded in death by his parents.
    Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at the Grayson Funeral Home, 201 7th Street in Clay City, with Bro. Donald Hale officiating. Friends may visit Tuesday, March 2nd from 5 till 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Kennon Cemetery.
    Pallbearers are Mathew Campbell, Jimmy Campbell, Johnny Centers, Christian Hall, Austin Smith and Jim Wells.
    Honorary pallbearers are Sammy Conner, Danny Pitts, Nathan Willoughby and Shirley Pitts.

    Andrew Jackson Begley, age 81, of Woolery Lane in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2021, at his home following a sudden illness.
    He was born August 9, 1939 in Estill County and was the son of the late Elijah and Betty Johnson Begley. He was a retired carpenter and had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Begley is preceded in death by his wife, Ida Mae Bowles Begley.
    He is survived by three daughters: Betty Marshall (Tony), Bourbon County; Joyce Litsey, and Sandy Smith (Gary), both of Madison County; one son, Billy Begley, Estill County; two brothers: Clyde Begley and Willie Begley, both of Estill County; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
    Mr. Begley was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Hawkins and Edna Mae Dozier; and four brothers, Roscoe, Charles Junior, Clarence Alonzo and Arnold Earl Begley.
    Visitation for the public was held Saturday, February 27, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home. Private funeral services were be conducted by Bro. Tony Marshall with burial at the Oakdale Cemetery.

Estill McGee

    Estill McGee, age 91, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Monday, February 22, 2021 at VA Hospital – Leestown Road, Lexington.
    He was the son of the late Millard and Bessie “Cotton” Noland McGee, born in Estill County on October 16, 1929. He was a United States Army veteran and served with the Army Corps of Engineers. He went on to own and operate Richmond Machine and Welding. His favorite pastime was fishing, and he was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
    Survivors include two sons: Sonny McGee (Lisa) of Richmond and Jerry Lee McGee of Lexington; his daughter, Mary Ann McGee of Richmond; one brother, Edgar McGee (Grace); his sister, Bertha Peters (Billy); seven grandchildren, a number of great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
    Mr. McGee was also preceded in death by two sons: Ronnie Dean McGee and Johnny Ray McGee; his brothers: Joe, Roy, Bruce, Gilbert, Chaney and James McGee; and four sisters: Maffrey Richmond, Naomi McGee, Dorothy Lainhart and Shirley Taylor.
    Visitation begins at 11:30 a.m. and funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Friday, February 26, 2021 at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street, Richmond. Burial will follow in the South Irvine Cemetery in Irvine.
