    Jewel Dean Brandenburg, age 75, of Embassy Drive in Lexington, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022, at the University of Kentucky Hospital, following a long illness.
    She was born January 30, 1947 in Hamilton County, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Hargas and Addie Alcorn Brandenburg. She worked on the assembly line for Dixie Cup, and she had lived in Lexington for most her life.
    Jewel Dean is survived by her son, Gregory Allen Bishop (Denise) of Georgetown, Kentucky.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette Crowe; and a brother, Thomas Tudor.
    Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday, September 6, 2022, 12:00 Noon, at the Alcorn Cemetery with Bro. Danny Bennett officiating.

    Robert Ray “Bobby” Snowden, age 83, of Berea, Kentucky, died Friday, August 26, 2022 at VA Medical Center Hospice Unit in Louisville following a lengthy illness.
    He was a Hargett, Kentucky (Estill County) native born May 5, 1939 son of the late Richard and Bertha King Snowden, retired United States Navy with 20 years of service including serving on the USS America and USS Forrestal, retired from EnerSys, devoted member and faithful servant of Red Lick Baptist Church where he served as Deacon.
    Bobby was a devoted husband, father and family man. He enjoyed fishing, helping people in the Red Lick Community, and talking about his travels while proudly serving in the Navy.
    Survivors include three children, Richard Snowden (Sandy), Pam Centers (Jeff), and Christy Snowden; grandchildren, Brittany Hobbs, Dylan Centers, Taylor Anderkin, and Kelly Alexander; great grandchildren, Crystlyn, Brennon, Jace, and Eli; as well as numerous relatives, friends and church family.
    In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Alice Jean Satterfield Snowden; and eight siblings Shelby, E.M., Floyd, Brownie, Almedia, Imogene, Earl, and Richard.
    Funeral service was at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Red Lick Baptist Church with Bro. Wayne Miller officiating. Burial followed in Madison County Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Visitation was 6-9 p.m., Tuesday, August 30th at the church.
    Pallbearers were Dylan Centers, Eric Turner, Mark Centers, Brian David Fultz, Rusty Foley, and Gary Lee Cates.

    We are sad to announce that Louis Smith Officer, aged 81, of Ravenna, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2022 in his home after a long illness.
    He was raised by Ollie and Dorcas Orr and is preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters: Kate Harper, Timothy Officer, Pearl Rhoades, Estelle Kopp, Thomas Officer, Charles Officer, Harvey Officer, John Officer, and Betty Officer; his father, Harvey Officer; his mother, Mettie McCoy; and son, Gary Michael Alexander (widow Pamela Sutcliffe).
    Mr. Officer is survived by his brother, Edgar Orr (Billie); ex-wife, Penny Officer; three children: Shannon Vice, Christina Officer, and Steven Officer (Susie); nine grandchildren: Tawny McCauley-Vice (Johnny), Chelsea Bailey (Floyd), Christine Caudill (Caleb), Carol Alexander, Elisha Rose, Kyle Kelly, Danielle Officer, Dylan Officer, and Skylar Officer; and nine great grandchildren: Zoey Caudill, Aubriegh Caudill, Ivy Caudill, Mia McCauley-Vice, Ava McCauley-Vice, Michael Bailey, Gary Alexander, Eliza Osborne, and Allison Osborne.
    Louis attended Ravenna Grade School and was a graduate of Irvine High School. After graduating, he went on to serve in the United States Navy where he retired after twenty years of service. He then found employment at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Lexington Kentucky where he later retired. He was actively involved in the American Legion where he served as Post 79 Commander (3 times), 7th District Adjunct and Vice Commander (2 times), and Sergeant At Arms. He was the Area B Vice Commander, Senior Vice Commander, the State Commander from 2005 to 2006, the Chef de Gare in Volare 1407 (3 times); Grand Chef De Gare for the State of Kentucky, City of Paduah Kentucky Duke of Paduah, Commonwealth of Kentucky Kentucky Colonel, and was a service officer. During his time with the American Legion, he was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award.
    He was an avid outdoorsman, but above all he enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandchildren. His love of life was contagious, and his sense of humor was unparalleled. The man was larger than life, and he will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
    Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 3, 2022, 11:00 a.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home with Bro. Marvin Neal officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. Burial will be at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East at Grayson, Kentucky, on Tuesday, September 6, at 10:30 a.m.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Estill County Toys for Kids, or the American Legion Post 79 Flood Fund.

    Donald Rose, age 75, of Red Lick Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, following a short illness.
    He was born November 9, 1946 in Estill County and was the son of Willie and Dessie Isaacs Rose. He was a retired farmer and had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Rose is survived by five daughters: Barbara Sue Hernandez (Romaldo) of Montgomery County; Peggy Ann Rose, Teresa Gail Frazier (Eddie), Irma Jean Thornsberry (Mike), and Vanessa Darlene Moore (Keith), all of Estill County; one son, Gary Randall Rose (Judy) of Estill County; two sisters: Catherine Willis (Hympsel) and Christine Rose (R.C.), both of Estill County; three brothers: Finley Rose (Lizzie), Kenneth Rose (Florence), and Paul Rose (Nellie), all of Estill County; two half-sisters: Michelle Jenkins (Ricky) and Bonnie Rose, both of Estill County; two half-brothers: Michael Rose and Donnie Rose (Nancy), both of Estill County; 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Minda Willis Rose; his parents, and four brothers, Larry, Cecil, Mitchell and William Rose.
    Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, September 4, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Rose officiating. Burial will be at the Tackett Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

    Alice Shumate Houston, age 80, widow of Marion Wade Houston, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at Fountain Circle Care and Rehabilitation in Winchester, Kentucky.
    She was born in Clark County on June 24, 1942, to the late Cecil Mark Shumate and Fairy Rose Warner. She was a member of Turkeyfoot Christian Church.
    Mrs. Houston is survived by two daughters, Cecilia Prater (Jeff) and Kylie Houston; one son, Paul Houston; three grandchildren, Todd Prater, Daryl Prater, Daniel Prater (Arcenal); one great grandchild, Avielle Prater; one brother, Roger Dale Warner, and several cousins; also, a special cousin, Carrie M. Marstella.
    In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded by siblings, infant Josephine Shumate, Randall Shumate, and Cecil Roy Shumate.
    Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Scobee Funeral Home, 219 West Lexington Avenue, Winchester, by Pastor Kevin Jett. Burial will follow at the Rose Family Cemetery, New Fox Road in Estill County. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until time of service at Scobee Funeral Home.

    Lionel Allen, age 69, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at his residence. He was born April 23, 1953, the son of the late Linvol Allen and Rosa Withers Allen Spencer. He was a United States Army Vietnam veteran and a retired services driver.
    Mr. Allen is survived by a son, Travis Allen; two daughters, Samantha Andrews (Michael), and Breanna Allen; five grandchildren, Shayla Allen, Hailey Allen, Blake Reed, James Axl Andrews, and Liam Allen; a sister, Linva Lou Allen Powell; and an aunt, Jean Wilcox.

    Jewell Rawlins, age 85, wife of Edwin Tommy Young, passed away on Monday, August 29, 2022 at Baptist Health in Richmond, Kentucky.
    She was born in Irvine, Kentucky, to the late Christopher Columbus "Clummie" Rice and Linda Isaacs Caldwell on July 6, 1937. She was a homemaker, and she enjoyed gardening, feeding her birds, birdwatching, cooking and fishing. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
    She is preceded in death by her first husband, Travis “Ted” Rawlins Jr.; and one brother, Benjamin Thomas Caldwell.
    Survivors include two sons, Terry Ray Rawlins and Jerry G. Rawlins (Donna), both of Richmond; one daughter, Tammy Kaye Daniel (Marvin) of Stanford; two step-sons, David Young (Darlene) of Richmond and Danny Young (Ramona) of Winchester; one step-daughter, Lynn Broomfield (Danny) of Richmond; two brothers, Randall Rice and Raymond Rice; three sisters, Peggy Rogers, Doris Cox, and Reva Smyth; eight grandchildren, Shane Rawlins, Casen Daniel, Holly Poynter, Travis Rawlins, Crystal Newby, Bethlyn Shepherd, Chandler Rawlins and McKenzie Rawlins; eleven great grandchildren and six great, great grandchildren.
    Services were on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Flatwoods Christian Church at 1:00 p.m. with Bro. Mark Sarver and Bro. Alan Livingood officiating. Visitation was from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial was in Flatwoods Cemetery.
    Pallbearers were Travis Rawlins, Danny Young, David Young, Danny Broomfield, Casen Daniel and Shane Rawlins.

    Charles Denzill "Chuck" Lees of Lexington, Kentucky, was born on July 28, 1955, in Newark, Ohio, the third of six children belonging to Bennett Ora Lees and Ethel Ruth Warner Lees, both of whom proceeded him in death.
    Chuck was the beloved husband of Millie Hardy, formerly of Irvine. They married, June 4, 1977, on the campus of Cincinnati Christian University; where they met and fell in love. Together they were blessed with three wonderful children and their spouses: Elizabeth Amber Lees Cornett (Stephen Paul) of Lexington, Charles Brandon Lees (Amber Denise) of Owingsville, and Clarence Noland Lees (Crystal Renee) of Nicholasville. He was the proud grandfather of Abigail Denise Lees and Charles Dalton Lees, both of Owingsville. He enjoyed being a Grandpa more than anything in life.
    He graduated from Granville Exempted Village School District High School (1973), Cincinnati Christian University (1977), and has a Master of Ministry from Kentucky Christian University (1992). Charles was ordained into the Christian Ministry on April 17, 1977 at Heath Church of Christ, Heath, Ohio.
    Together, Chuck and Millie served churches in Ohio, Virginia, and Kentucky. His first ministry was as a Youth and Music Minister at the Northern Heights Christian Church in Lexington. He served as a Youth Minister at the former Grove City Church of Christ, Grove City, Ohio; and the Beechwold Church of Christ in Columbus, Ohio. He was the founding minister of the Church of Christ in Alexandria, Ohio. He served the Grundy Church of Christ in Grundy, Virginia, as Music and Youth Minister, then returned years later as Senior Minister; and at one time served as President of Grundy Bible Institute. He was Senior Minister at Macedonia Christian Church in Lexington on two different occasions, Greenup Christian Church in Greenup, and First Christian Church in Owingsville, also on two different occasions. He was with the Broadway Christian Church in Lexington. Chuck’s last ministry was serving as part-time minister at the Berea Christian Church, Lexington, until illness took him to retirement.
    Known for reviving struggling churches and for the ministry of compassion in times of bereavement and monumental tragedy, he firmly believed a church can have its greatest impact during loss by serving families. It seems as if God gave him a gift for helping the hurting.
    All that is written here is not the sum total of his existence. Only Heaven can reveal the impact he made on the lives from seeds he had sown. The bottom line is that Chuck wanted to serve people. And in service, he wanted to show those he served Jesus.
    Chuck would often quote Dwight L. Moody who puts it this way: "Someday you will read in the papers that D. L. Moody, is dead. Don't you believe a word of it! At that moment I shall be more alive than I am now!" And now Chuck is in the presence of the Lord. That for him is no big adjustment. He had been living so very vigorously in the Lord’s presence for all these many years.
    Visitation will be Friday, September 2, 2022 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral Service will be Saturday, September 3 at 11:00 a.m., both at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road. There will be a private interment following the funeral at the North Irvine Cemetery in Irvine.
    In lieu of flowers, contributions to the family for burial expenses would be appreciated.

    Tommie Russell Kendall, age 69, of Willow Tree Lane in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Baptist Health in Lexington following a long illness.
    He was born February 17, 1953 in Jefferson County, Kentucky and was the son of the late Selbert and Martha Jones Kendall. He was a former member of the National Guard and worked for Central State Hospital. He was a member of the Turning Point Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Clay City.
    Mr. Kendall had lived in Estill County for the last 15 years and is survived by his wife, Judith Gail Collins Kendall; one daughter, Crystal Meece (Eddie) of Estill County; one sister, Patsy Colyer, and one brother, Joe Kendall, both of Shelbyville; and four grandchildren: Gage Hunt, Tyra Hunt, Corey Bishop, and Dalton Bishop.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Larry Hunt Jr., and one brother, David Kendall.
    Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, August 30, 2022, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Eugene McIntosh officiating. Burial will be at the Cobb Hill Cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

    Ronnie Lynn Henry, age 73, of Maupin Hill Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2022, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
    He was born May 5, 1949 in Estill County and was the son of Johnnie M. and Clara Cooper Henry. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era and a was a retired military contractor. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
    Mr. Henry is survived by his daughter, Kim Henry, and his son, Billy Henry, both of Estill County; and one sister, Linda Murphy of Madison County.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Shelia Worrell Henry; his parents and his brother, Larry Henry.
    Funeral services were conducted by Bro. Glendon Woosley, Monday, August 29, 2022, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation was held Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

    Scott Lee Patrick, age 55, of Hamilton, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2022 after a long illness.
    Scott is survived by his wife, Melissa Jacobs Patrick; children, David Patrick and Kimi Caldwell (Joey), grandchildren, Paige, Addy, Lydia, Ryker and Clementine; and a brother, Timothy Patrick (Kathy); as well as many other family members and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his daughter, Heather Patrick; a grandson, Weston Caldwell; and a brother, Kevin Patrick.
    Scott was born April 27, 1967 in Hamilton, Ohio, to the late Anita Winkle Patrick and Ronald Patrick, both of Hamilton, Ohio. He enjoyed spending time at flea markets and antique shops looking for bargains. He was a skilled glass blower and made beautiful pieces but was known for making marbles. Scott also enjoyed listening to a variety of music styles and playing the guitar.
    Our family is grateful to know that Scott is finally at peace. We would like to especially thank Dr. Robert J. Hopkin, the Fort Hamilton Hospital doctors and nurses and the staff of Fresenius Kidney Care for the exceptional care and compassion they showed Scott in his final days.
    At his request, Scott's body will be donated to The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine for the advancement of science. A memorial service will be held at a future date.
    Donations can be made in Scott's name to the National Fabry Disease Foundation.

    Elsie Estes Kirby, age 75, born January 28, 1947, the daughter of the late Masco Estes and Addie Bee Estes, passed peacefully in her sleep on Monday, August 22, 2022. She was a retired employee of Carhartt and a lifelong resident of Estill County. She was a member of Thomas Baptist Church.
    Mrs. Kirby was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Richard Charles Kirby; and her daughter, Teresa Gail Kirby-Raglin.
    Elsie is survived by a daughter, Charlotte Kirby, London, Kentucky; two sons, Charles S. Kirby (Mary), Waco, Kentucky; and Anthony W. Kirby (Hope Willis), Irvine; a son-in-law, Darin Raglin, Midway; four grandchildren, Katelynn Kirby, Kendall Kirby, Elizabeth Raglin, and Hannah Raglin; and siblings, Geneva Philbeck, Hamilton, Ohio; Kenneth Estes, and Delbert Estes, both of Irvine.
    She is also survived by her best friend of 50+ years, Teresa Phoenix (Larry); and Cheryl Smith (Steve Masters) whom she loved dearly and always thought of as her baby sister.
    In addition to her parents, husband, and daughter, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Eva Mae Miller, Roscoe Estes, Samuel Estes, Obed Estes, Eunice Robertson, Beverly Estes, Reva Hardy, and Michael Estes.
    Elsie will be fondly remembered; especially for her sense of humor, work ethic, cooking and deep love of family and friends.
    Funeral services were held on Friday, August 26, 2022, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home with Brother Mike Creech Creech and Brother Brett Benton officiating. Visitation was held Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Funeral Home. She was interred at West Irvine Cemetery.

    Vicki Lynn Davis, age 61, of Sandhill Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, August 22, 2022, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness.
    She was born April 10, 1961, in Estill County and was the daughter of James Wesley and Beulah Mae Tipton. She was a homemaker and had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband, Edward Leon Davis; two sons: Eric Caton Davis and Christopher Tyler Davis, both of Estill County; and four grandchildren: Sya Raylene Layken Davis, Bryce Adams, Zoe Adams and Gavin Trent Profitt.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Teresa Jo Sparks; and two brothers, James Ricky Tipton and Darrell Glenn Tipton.
    A memorial service will be held at a later date.
