Rev. James Delmar McGee

    Rev. James Delmar McGee, age 84, of Brown Ridge Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2022, at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, following a short illness.
    He was born February 23, 1938 in Estill County and was the son of the late Leonard and Elzie Fox McGee. He was retired from the Square D Company and attended the Restoration Community Church.
    Rev. McGee is survived by three sons: James Randall McGee (Diana) of Cincinnati, Timothy Lane McGee of Estill County; and Rodney Eugene McGee of Covington; one brother, Pete McGee; four grandchildren: Ashton Stephens, Christian McGee, Sean McGee, and Cody McGee; and two great grandchildren, August and Dash Stephens
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Catherine Brinegar McGee; one son, Bradley Scott McGee; two sisters, Susie Berryman and Anita Wilcox; and three brothers, Junior, Eugene, and Bill McGee.
    Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, November 8, 2022, 11:00 a.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jimmy Bonny officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, November 7th from 6 to 9 p.m.

Clara Ann Durbin Chmiel

    Clara Ann Durbin Chmiel, age 86, of Pryse Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at the Irvine Nursing and Rehab Center following a short illness.
    She was born April 10, 1936 in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Pius and Effie Dunaway Durbin. She was an United States Air Force veteran and a teller for Chase Bank. She was a member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and had lived in Estill County for the last 25 years.
    Mrs. Chmiel is survived by her husband of 63 years, Leonard “Neal” S. Chmiel; two sisters: Mary Webb of Florida, and Carolyn Asay of North Carolina; and one brother, Pius Durbin Jr. of Estill County.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Thelma Sister Elizabeth Ann Durbin, Margie Sister Francis Ann Durbin, and Virginia Elizabeth Hiler; and two brothers, Leo and Amos Durbin.
    Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 9, 2022, 11:00 a.m., at the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Ravenna with Father Al Fritsch officiating. Burial will be at the Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Lois Young Gentry

    Lois Young Gentry, the daughter of the late Johnny and Bertha Newton Young, was born in Ravenna, Kentucky on March 25, 1945 and departed this life at her home in Fairfield, Ohio on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 7 days. She was a former aircraft engine inspector for General Electric for over 20 years.
    Mrs. Gentry is survived by two sisters, Joyce Treadway and Carolyn Flannery; a brother, Ernie Slone, Jr.; several nieces and nephews, Jeff Mainous, Melissa Finke, Melanie Vickers and Meritta Harris; and a host of other relatives and friends.

    Janice Kay Stamper Childers, age 57, of Winchester, Kentucky, passed away Sunday morning, October 30, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
    She was born on May 11, 1965 in Winchester, Kentucky, to the late Hiram and Melinda Raleigh Stamper.
    Janice moved to Clark County many years ago from Estill County. She attended Howards Mill First Church of God and was a wonderful homemaker for her family. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, watching old Westerns, taking country cruises and spending time with her cherished family and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
    Mrs. Childers is survived by her loving husband, Dale Childers of Winchester; two sons, Henry Burton of Winchester and James Burton (Katelin) of Jeffersonville; one daughter, Brittany Childers of Winchester; ten grandchildren; brother; Junior Stamper (Jenny) of Winchester; seven sisters: Alma Sally (Georgie), Linda Stokely, both of Winchester; Brenda Plowman (Jerry) of Irvine, Edna Hall of Winchester; Pam Childers (Ricky), Tina Stamper (Steve Plowman), and Kathy Gilbert (William), all of Irvine; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her brother Terry Stamper.
    There will be a private family service.

    Marlene Faye Gross, age 35, of Winchester, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2022.
    She was born August 11, 1987 to Pauline Isaacs Gross and the late Larry Dale Gross.
    Marlene is survived by her mother, Pauline Gross, eight children; five brothers, Larry, Preston, Justin, Michael and Danny Gross; and three sisters, Allie, Ashley and Marissa Gross.
    The family has chosen cremation. No services are planned at this time.

Pari Lee Miller Johnson

    Our Sweet Mother, Mrs. Pari Lee Miller Johnson, age 86, widow of Jimmie H. Johnson, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the U.K. Chandler Medical Center in Lexington.
    Mrs. Johnson, the daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Mattie Rooney Miller, was born in Richmond, Kentucky, on December 21, 1935. Pari Lee was a 1954 graduate of Madison High School and attended Eastern Kentucky University. She was a member of The First Baptist Church. In addition to church and Sunday School, she especially enjoyed traveling with the Youth Choir in years past.
    As a young woman, she was employed with the Richmond Chamber of Commerce in the Glyndon Hotel. Later in life she became Richmond’s “Welcome Wagon” Hostess and always enjoyed meeting new people. Pari Lee also made lifelong friends through her involvement with the Madison County Homemakers and the Madison County Democratic Women’s Club.
    With great pride, her latest employment was in the office of her son’s dental practice in Irvine, Kentucky. Throughout her life, her main focus was her family. She loved taking family trips and especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren.
    She is survived by her daughters: Jina Greathouse of Frankfort and Leslie Klenke (Tom) of Richmond; and her son, Dr. Jimmie Lee Johnson (Kay Lotz) of Richmond; her grandchildren: Kate Greathouse, Megan Greathouse, Jacob Klenke and Eli Klenke; as well as several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
    In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters: Louise Fortney, Dorothy Hall and Addie Griffith; and two brothers: Bill Miller and Gilbert Miller.
    Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 5, 2022 at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street, Richmond. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Friday evening, November 4th at the funeral home.
    Serving as pallbearers are Tom Klenke, Dr. Jimmie Johnson, Jacob Klenke, Eli Klenke, J.P. Miller and Mike Miller.
    The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers that were so kind to their mother, Yvonne Parks, Phyllis Jackson and Kate Greathouse.

Robert D. “Bob” Smith

    Robert D. “Bob” Smith, 79, of Beattyville, Kentucky, passed away Saturday evening, October 29, 2022 at his home on Big Andy Ridge after a long illness. He was in his favorite recliner where he wrote hundreds of stories over the years.
    Bob Smith was born in Neon, Kentucky, on July 4th, 1943, the son of Robert D. Smith and Osie Tolliver. He was an United States Army Veteran, curator and president of the Three Forks Historical Center, chairman of the Lee County War Memorial committee, Kentucky Admiral, past president of the Natural Bridge Park Association, past president of the Pine Ridge Industrial Board; just to name a few of his accomplishments.
    He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Keen Smith; children, Crista Lynn and Daryle Thomas of Lyman, South Carolina; Marna and Charlie Saunders of Owingsville, and Joshua Smith of Beattyville; his grandchildren, Austin Thomas, Ethan Smith (Mariah Holiday), Zane Thomas, Lydia Saunders, Miles Saunders, Emma Smith and Allison Smith; a great grandson, Luke Ian Smith; sister, Ila Alane Nickell of West Liberty; a very, very special family friend, Jessica Treadway; special nephew Danny Cox; and many, many nieces, nephews and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Robert D. Smith; mother, Osie Tolliver Cox; stepfather, Shirley P. Cox; a sister Shirley Jo Cook; and a brother, Bobby Ray Quillen.
    Visitation for Bob Smith will be held Thursday evening, November 3, 2022 from 6-9 p.m. in the Newnam Funeral Home Chapel, 108 Center Stree, Beattyville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 4th with William Owens and Marvin Hobbs officiating. Burial will be in the Rock of Ages Cemetery.
    Pallbearers will be Austin Thomas, Zane Thomas, Ethan Smith, Miles Saunders, Joe Lucas and Mike Johnson.
    Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Cox, Alvin Wright, Larry Meadows, Alan Barnett, Jamie Stickler, and Tony Hobbs.

    Jeffery Chase Hatton, age 26, of Twin Creek Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Friday, October 28, 2022, at his home.
    He was born June 3, 1996, in Fayette County and was the son of Dwaine Jeffrey and Patricia Gail Marcum Hatton. He was a pipe welder and a veteran of the National Guard. He had lived in Estill County for most of his life.
    In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Kyra Cackling; his grandparents, Nettie Marcum, Loretta Hatton, both of Estill County; and Dwaine Hatton of Powell County; one son, Annakin Zane Hatton; one sister, Kalea Currey (Zachary) of Clark County; one half-sister: Ashley Isaacs (Donnie) of Estill County; one half-brother, Andrew Hatton of Estill County; and one nephew, Keelan Reese Currey.
    Memorial services will be conducted Tuesday, November 1, 2022, 6:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m.

    Ronnie Lee Rice Sr., age 70, of Irvine, Kentucky, departed this life on Friday, October 28, 2022, at his home.
    He was born on September 1, 1952, in Irvine, Kentucky, to the late David and Christine Riddell Rice. He was a long-time member of the South Irvine Church of Christ. He was retired from the Estill County School System.
    Ronnie loved spending time with family and friends.
    In addition to his parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by his loving wife, Holly Ann Fields Rice; and his brother, Timothy Rice.
    Survivors include one son, Ronnie Lee Rice Jr. (Lisa) of Berea; one daughter, Nicole Rice of Irvine; four grandchildren, Tanner, Tailor, and Bailee Rice of Berea; and Kristyn Graves (Darrin) of Mount Sterling; and his special companion, his dog Max; along with many other relatives and friends to miss him and mourn his passing.
    Funeral services for Ronnie Lee Rice Sr. will be conducted on Monday, October 31, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lewis Home for Funerals with Brother Tony Belcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Angela Lynn Ritchie

    Angela Lynn Ritchie, age 46, wife of Benjamin Ritchie of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at her home after a long battle with cancer.
    Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan she was the daughter of the late Ollie James Spencer and the late Glenda Sue Smith Spencer. She was a member of the Bowen Full Gospel Pentecostal Church of God and worked in deposit operations at Citizens Guarantee Bank in Irvine. Angela was a loving and caring mother and an affectionate wife.
    Along with her husband, she is survived by one son, James Ethan Ritchie; one daughter, Olivia Dee Ritchie; one sister, Pamela Kay Spencer of Stanton; three aunts: Freda Kay Joseph, Wanda Faye Johnson (Patrick) and Omeda Cravens, all of Stanton; one uncle, Roscoe Smith (Jeanne) of Burlington, Indiana; along with a host of cousins.
    Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 31, 2022 at the Bowen Full Gospel Pentecostal Church of God, 39 Little North Fork Road, Stanton. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 30, 2022 with a church service being conducted at 6:00 p.m. that evening at the church as well, and visitation will conclude at 9:00 p.m. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery.

Ira Combs Brashear, Jr., 96


Ira Combs Brashear, Jr.

    Ira Combs Brashear, Jr., age 96, was born in Irvine, Kentucky to Ira Combs and Grace Guy Brashear on July 20, 1926 and passed on to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.
    He was the third born of their five children. His siblings were Dorotha Brashear Beatty, Dr. Robert Brashear, Lewis Brashear and Mildred Brashear Crawford. He attended Trapp School and Clark County Schools. At age 17, in 1944, he joined the United States Navy and served two years on the USS LST (Landing Ship Tank) 866 in the South Pacific.
    Ira was hired by Delco Products after the war and moved to Dayton, Ohio, where he met the love of his life, Hildred Faye Smith, on a blind date. They were married a few months later. Their two children, Deborah Lynn and Ira Douglas were born in Dayton. The family moved to Waynesville, Ohio a few years until Ira was hired by IBM in Lexington.
    Ira’s work with IBM took him from Lexington to Austin, Texas and back to Lexington. After many years of work with IBM, Ira and Faye retired in Winchester and attended First Baptist Church there. They enjoyed family reunions, camping, and RV road trips to visit their grandsons. Ira also had a local delivery service, Brashear Quick Delivery, for a number of years.
    Mr. Brashear loved the Lord. Many years he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon. He loved his family, even working extra jobs and sacrificing to put his children through college. He loved his work. He enjoyed mechanical engineering, always thinking how create new and better ways to make things work.
    Ira is survived by his children: Deborah and Gene Carrington, Doug Brashear; grandsons: David Carrington, Greg Brashear and Geoff Brashear; and great grandchildren: Isaac Carrington, Emilie Carrington, Jace Carrington, Henry Brashear and Julian Brashear.
    A Celebration of Life will be Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at First Baptist Church, 32 E. Lexington Ave., Winchester, KY. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., service will be at 11 a.m.
    The family would like to thank Lewie and Marilyn Brashear for loving and caring for Ira (or Uncle I.C.) these past few years.

    Myrtle Muncie Lane, age 76, of Clay City, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Sterling.
    She was born in Irvine, Kentucky, March 3, 1946 to Tracy Wallace and and Gracie Spicer Muncie. She was a housewife.
    Mrs. Lane is survived by two sons, Grover Larrison (Vickie) and Virgil Larrison, both of Clay City; three daughters: Thelma Holder (Paul), Myrtle Banks, and Phyllis Clifford (David), all of Clay City; twelve grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild; two brothers, Robbie Richardson of Clay City and James Richardson of Irvine; and three sisters: Barbara Choate of Clay City, Diane Royse of Winchester and Betty Jean Roberts of Beattyville.
    Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, Tracy Wallace and Gracie Muncie; her first husband, Isacar "Isaac" Larrison; her second husband, Victor Lane; and two sisters, Loretta Riddle and Mary Richardson.
    Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the Grayson Funeral Home Chapel in Clay City with Bro. Johnny Hurt officiating. Friend may visit Saturday from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the Rest Haven Cemetery in Stanton.
    Pallbearers are Jordan Barnett, Paul Holder JR, Kiser Larrison, JT McIntosh, Anthony Michael Larrison and Shelby Barnett.

Carlos Ray Richardson

    Carlos Ray Richardson, age 71, of Wagersville Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, following a long illness.
    He was born on February 18, 1951, in Irvine, Kentucky and was the son of the late Willie Joe and Anna Ruth Fowler Richardson. Ray spent the past forty-two years building a beautiful life with his love, Shelia. He was a retired truck driver and a master woodworker. He shined most in his role as Poppie to his grandchildren.
    Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Gene Miller; and his brother-in-law, Alex Miller.
    In addition to his wife, Shelia, he is survived by six children, Carlos Ray II (Antje), Kevin, Ricky (Chasity), Stephanie, Ryan (LeeAnn), and Shane (Macey); three sisters, Faye Mullins, Judy Woosley, and Sherri Cole (Clinton); 17 grandchildren, Nastascha (Josh), Karlie (soon-to-be mother to Ray’s first great granddaughter), Kelsi, Kevin Jay, Joe Dylan, Josiah, Mimi, Kade Thomas, Jenna Raye, Maddi Jo, Aidan Shane, Zylyna, Maybree, Tessa, Grayson, Emmie, and Ellie; his mother-in-law, Verneda Miller; and many nieces and nephews.
    Visitation will be held Thursday, October 27, 2022, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home in Irvine. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 28, at 1:00 p.m. at the same location, with Shane Richardson officiating. Ray will be laid to rest at Joe Miller Cemetery. His family and friends look forward to reuniting with him in Heaven.
    Pallbearers include Ray Richardson II, Ryan Richardson, Shane Richardson, Aidan Bailey, Kevin Jay Richardson, and Josiah Richardson.
    Ray’s son, Kevin Richardson; and his longtime best friends - “Rounddaddy” Jerry Parsons, Harold Isaacs, Charlie Neal, Dale Durham, and Martha Marcum - will serve as honorary pallbearers.

James Floyd Willis

    James Floyd Willis, age 89, of Red Lick, Madison County, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.
    He was born in Estill County on July 11, 1933, the son of the late Robert and Sarah Carpenter Willis. He was a life-long farmer and retired employee of Eastern Kentucky University where he worked in facility maintenance. Mr. Willis loved to joke and have a good time with his family and friends, and in his younger years, he enjoyed riding horses and being outdoors. He was of the holiness faith.
    Survivors include his children, Bobby Willis, Tim Willis, and Sandy Bryant; his grandchildren, Tim Bryant, Ben Bryant, James Ray Willis, Robin Willis, and Michell VanWinkle; and one great grandchild, Dustin VanWinkle; as well as a host of other extended family and friends.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Bertha Anglin Willis; one son, Randall Willis; and his siblings, Edgar Willis, Raymond Willis, Robert Willis, Donia Lainhart, Lilla Logston, Mafra Lainhart, and Laura Ann Ballinger.
    Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 29, 2022, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond, with Rev. Ermon Turner officiating. Burial will follow in the Pilot Knob Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.
