Joe Murrel Willis Jr.

    Joe Murrel Willis Jr., age 80, of Opossum Run Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson, Kentucky, following a long illness.
    He was born August 22, 1942, in Estill County and was the son of the late Joe Murrel and Virginia Hardy Willis. He was a farmer and a member of the Madison Coon Club. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Willis is survived by his wife, Lorena Riddell Willis; one son, Timothy Joe Willis of Estill County; two sisters: Lilla Neal of Ohio and Linda Weddington of Fayette County; one brother, Bobby Willis of Estill County; and three grandchildren: Randall Joe Willis, Dylan Cecil Willis, and Mason Cruze Willis.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Willis.
    Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, December 21, 2022, 11:00 a.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Rose officiating. Burial will be at the West Irvine Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Doris Lynn Satterley

    Doris Lynn Satterley, age 74, of Upper Lick Branch in Alexandria, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022, at her home following a long illness.
    She was born August 29, 1948, in Estill County and was the daughter of the late William and Zelma Johnson Rogers. She was retired from the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Fort Thomas, Kentucky.
    Mrs. Satterley is survived by two daughters: Angie Mulberry (Chris) and Lori Field, both of Alexandria; one sister, Brenda Hanson of Minnesota; one brother, Mike Rogers of Grant County; two grandchildren, Benjamin and Evan Mulberry; and several nieces and nephews that she loves.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Satterley.
    Graveside services will be conducted at a later date.

Virgil D. Johnson

    Virgil D. Johnson, age 88, of Berry Avenue in Bellevue, Kentucky, passed away Friday, December 16, 2022, at the St. Elizabeth Hospice.
    He was born May 28, 1934 in Estill County and was the son of the late Hubert Green and Mary Edna Estes Johnson. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Durkee Foods and attended the Bellevue Baptist Church.
    Mr. Johnson is survived by one daughter, Melissa Anne Perkins of Lakeside Park, Kentucky; one son, Gerald D. Johnson of Florence; two sisters: Nancy Teegarden of Alexandria and Faye Stewart of Estill County; one brother, Dallas Johnson of Lee County; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine Stidham Johnson; two sons, Virgil Kevin Johnson and Stephen Ray Johnson; and seven siblings, Beulah Mays, Leora Smith, Sue Abney, Zelma Rogers, Phyllis Shouse, Floyd Merle Johnson and James Johnson.
    Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday, December 20, 2022, 1:00 p.m., with Donnie Watson officiating at the Warner-Stidham Cemetery at 1102 Dry Ridge Road, Irvine.

Larry David Noland, 71


Larry David Noland

    Larry David Noland, age 71, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022 at the Hospice Care Plus Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, Kentucky, after a diagnosis of pancreatic and liver cancer. Larry lived only six weeks after his diagnosis and treatment. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
    Larry was born in Estill County to the late Shannon and Edith Powell Noland on March 2, 1951.
    He attended Estill High School where he received many honors and awards for his basketball skills. Larry received a scholarship to Mt. Olive Junior College in North Carolina where he attended for one semester. He loved basketball and was an avid UK Wildcats fan.
    Larry's work career began with the Southeast Coal Wash in Irvine for a year, the Kentucky State Highway Department for a year; and then moved to his career with the railroad, beginning in June of 1974 with the L & N Railroad (later CSX) where he held positions from laborer in the track department, foreman, track inspector, rail oiler and finally became a supervisor. Larry retired after 37 years at age 60.
    He liked working on the railroad, but he loved the men he supervised. After retirement, Larry began working part-time at the BP Station in Irvine where he loved meeting old friends and making new ones.
    Larry married Betsy Bush Noland in April, 1972 and they had one daughter, Leeann Danielle Noland. Leeann has been his pride and joy and the light of his life.
    Mr. Noland is survived by his sisters, Doris Sue Isaacs (Jesse Lynn), Shanetta Flynn, and Donna Ann Young (Carl), a brother, Mark Allen Noland; and a number of nieces and nephews all of whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by Leeann, his daughter; and Betsy, his ex-wife.
    Larry was baptized many years ago and he, Betsy and Leeann became members of the Broadway Christian Church in Lexington 20 years ago.
    Funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 19, 2022, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Glyndon Woosley officiating. Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
    Pallbearers are Ray Mills, Gerald Rader, Gary Newton, Michael Hardy, Howard Rogers and Danny Stacy/
    Honorary pallbearers are Robert Sewell, Roger Harkins, Kenny Floyd, Earl Blackwell and Curt Goodwin.

Edward Lee Sturgis

    Edward Lee Sturgis, age 85, of High Street in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022, at his home, following a long illness.
    He was born July 5, 1937, in Richmond, Indiana and was the son of the late Willard and Nellie Personet Sturgis. He was a retired manager with the Richmond Laundry and Dry Cleaners and had lived most of his life in Indiana.
    Mr. Sturgis is survived by his wife, Lillie Osborne Sturgis; two daughters: Patricia Dodd of Florida and Sue Brandenburg of Irvine; three sons: Ronnie Sturgis of Indiana; Rick Sturgis of Waco; and Dennis Hatfield of Florida; one sister, Ruby McGee of Indiana; two brothers: Paul Sturgis (Pat) of Indiana and Donnie Sturgis (Mitch) of London; two sisters-in-law: Martha Flynn and Allie Fair Noland, both of Estill County; three grandchildren: Jerrica Brandenburg, Jessica Dodd and Jonathan Dodd; and three great grandchildren.
    Funeral services were conducted Sunday, December 18, 2022, 2:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Brett Benton officiating. Burial was at the South Irvine Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
    Pallbearers were Billy Metcalf, Charlie Park, Jimmy Lakes and Jacob Lakes.

Lee Troy Reed

    Lee Troy Reed, age 80, widower of Joyce Carol Hatton Reed, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022.
    He was born October 2, 1942 in Estill County, Kentucky, McKinney Hollow, to the late Simon and Ollie Townsend Reed. He was a retired heavy equipment operator, musician, horseshoe champion and attended Hill Street Pentecostal Church.
    Lee is survived by two sons: Randy Reed of Winchester and Ricky Reed (Jo Ann) of Beattyville; two daughters Sheila Jackson (Keith) and Teresa Riddle (Tommy), both of Winchester; five grandchildren: Joshua Reed, Allison Baker, Stacy Reed, Emily Cox and Nathaniel Riddle; two great grandchildren: Tanner Reed and Braiden Baker; and a nephew, Ralph Brown.
    In addition to his wife, Lee is preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Campbell; a granddaughter, Ashley Sturgill; three brothers, Claude, Leonard and Marshall Reed; and two sistersc Frances Ellen Reed and Mary Koopman.
    Services will be Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Rolan G Taylor Funeral Home, 289 South Main Street, Winchester, with Bro. Ronald Gene Johns officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Burial will be in Winchester Cemetery.

Nancy Clay Farris Stansbury

    Nancy Clay Farris Stansbury sadly left us on December 1st, 2022, at the age of 68, following a diagnosis of uterine cancer earlier this year. She was surrounded by family in her home here in Las Vegas when she passed away.
    Nancy was born to the late Thomas and Anna Crouch Farris in Ravenna, Kentucky, on Monday, July 5, 1954. Her father was a bivocational pastor until his passing in 1964, which immersed Nancy in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support system from an early age.
    She attended Ravenna Elementary, Irvine High School and graduated from Estill County High School in 1972. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Kentucky University, and then went on to earn her Master’s degree in History, graduating from EKU in 1978. She accepted a teaching position at Victory Christian Academy in Louisville, Kentucky, where she taught high school for several years.
    Nancy met Michael D. Stansbury at Victory Baptist Church and they were married there, in Louisville, Kentucky, on June 3rd, 1984. She resigned from teaching shortly after to raise her two children.
    Nancy is preceded in death by her mother, Anna Evelyn Farris in 2005, and her father, Thomas Jefferson Farris, in 1964.
    Nancy is survived by her husband, Michael David Stansbury; her daughter, Ruth LeAnn, husband Caleb Hugh Sargent; her son, Andrew Thomas Stansbury; her brother, Robert Thomas Farris; her grandson, Gatlin Thomas Sargent; her granddaughter, Scotlyn Jaymes Sargent; her nieces, Jennifer Farris DeSpain and Robin Mae Farris; and her nephew, Thomas Clayton Farris.
    Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 17th, 2022, at Warren F. Toler Funeral. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Caleb Sargent officiating. Burial will follow at the Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Imogene Wright

    Imogene Wright, age 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 10, 2022.
    She was born March 8, 1936, in Ravenna, Kentucky but moved to Dayton as a child and graduated from Stivers High School in 1954. After High School she joined the Air Force, serving for several years where she met her husband Denver and they were married for 62 years until his passing in 2021.
    Imogene lived throughout the United States and abroad during her life, eventually settling in the Dayton area in 1976 to be near her family. She was devoted to family and went out of her way to create quality family time. As her children grew, she served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, supported numerous Little League seasons, PTA events, and other civic events. After her children were grown she worked as a Contract Administrator at DESC in Kettering until her retirement. Imogene was an avid walker, and her and Denver were involved in Square Dancing and game nights with their many friends.
    Imogene is survived by her cherished sister, Ruby; daughter, Cheryl Derstine (Wayne); sons, David Wright (Leisha) and Kenneth Wright (Kimberly); ten grandchildren: Bryan Derstine (fiancee' Maria Tomassi), Nathan Derstine, David Derstine (Susan), Kerianne, Kyle Wright (Suzanna), Taylor Wright, Brandy Walter (Justin), Tyler Stevens (Jennifer), Katie Stevens, and Kaitlyn Wright; eight great grandchildren: Luke Derstine, Olivia DeBell, Hunter Wright, Jaxon Wright, Nolan Wright, Denver Walter, Emma Walter, and Lucas Stevens.
    She was preceded in death by her father, Stormy Tipton, and mother, Annie Clay Profitt Tipton; and siblings, Tip, Vernon, Betty, and Randy.
    There will be no services at this time but a Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring.
    Memorial contributions may be directed to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org.

Delores Jean Harris Stamper

    Delores Jean Harris Stamper, age 77, of Waco, Kentucky, departed this life suddenly on Sunday, December 11, 2022, at Marcum and Wallace Hospital.
    Delores was born on September 23, 1945, in the Barnes Mountain community of Estill County, to the late Aveory and Lillian D. Arvin Harris.
    In addition to being a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Delores was a lifetime member of the New Bethel #1 Baptist Church.
    Along with her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, LaVaughn Stamper; and one sister, Carolyn Faircloth.
    Survivors include her daughter, Kelli Lane Robinson (John); her son, Aaron LaVaughn Stamper (Jennifer); four grandchildren: Justin Kyle Robinson, Holden Davis Stamper, Kennedy Grace Stamper, and Kerrington Elise Stamper; three great grandchildren: Kenley Faith Robinson, Ella Grace Robinson and Madyson Hope Robinson; two sisters: Paulette Stamper (Billy) and Janie Flanagan (Robert); along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends to miss her and mourn her passing.
    Funeral services for Delores Jean Harris Stamper will be conducted on Friday, December 16, 2022, at ll:00 a.m. in the chapel of Lewis Home for Funerals. Brother Bill Stamper and Brother Aaron Stamper will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Hoover Cemetery in the Barnes Mountain Community. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 15, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers will be John and Justin Robinson, Holden Stamper, Donnie Shepperson, Shannon Faircloth and Billy Crafton.
    Honorary pallbearers will be Dylan Bryant, Toby Honaker, Kris Bryant, Michael Flanagan, John and Stevie Fox, James Lee Stamper, and Lee Jr. Crafton.
