Wilma Louise Edmonson Covey

    Wilma Louise Edmonson Covey, age 73, of Cardinal Court in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at her home following a long illness.
    She was born May 26, 1949, in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Joe Edmonson and Barbara Louise Crowe Edmonson. She was a homemaker and a member of the Turning Point Apostolic Church. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Mrs. Covey is survived by her husband, Al L. Covey; one daughter, Kimberly Sparks, Estill County; one son, Al Dwayne Covey (Pam), Roanoke, Indiana; three brothers, Harold Dean Edmonson (Joyce), Larry Wayne Edmonson, and Roy Gene Edmonson (Elizabeth), all of Estill County; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Etta Edmonson; and three brothers, Timothy Glenn Edmonson, Kenneth Gayle Edmonson, and Ronnie Edmonson.
    Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 8, 2023, 2:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larry McIntosh officiating. Burial was at the Crowe Cemetery. Visitation was held on Friday, April 7th from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
    Pallbearers were Dwayne Covey, Joseph Covey, Justin Covey, Jordan Covey, Brandon Sparks, and Tyler Sparks.
    Honorary pallbearer was Donald Sparks.

Sandra Gay Anderson

    Sandra Gay Anderson, age 62, of Stanton, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at her home.
    She was born July 17, 1962 in Campton, Kentucky, to the late William Ernest King and the late Cora Mae Branham King.
    A long-time employee of McDonald's in Stanton, Sandy is survived by a son, James Anderson; two brothers, William Darrell King and Virgil Glen King; a sister, Wilma McCoy; five grandchildren, Shayla Ledford, Blaytin Anderson, Christopher Townsend, Steven Adams, and Travis Freeman; and two great grandchildren, Colton Rose and Delilah Rose.
    In addition her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, George Henry Anderson; two daughters Michelle Anderson and Melissa Anderson; and a brother, Michael Wayne King.
    Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Wells Funeral Home, Stanton. Visitation was held Friday, April 7th, beginning at 4:00 p.m. for family and at 5:00 p.m. for friends. Burial followed the funeral at the Tipton Cemetery with pallbearers Blaytin Anderson, Christopher Townsend, Travis Freeman, Cameron Rose, John Townsend, and Zack Adams.

Eliza McIntosh

    Eliza McIntosh, age 83, passed away April 3, 2023, in Clark County, Kentucky.
    She was born January 22, 1940, in Estill County to the late Marshall Crawford and Letha Bailey Crawford. She was a member of El Bethel United Methodist and attended Northside Baptist.
    Mrs. McIntosh is survived by her son, Larry McIntosh; one special great nephew, Billy Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
    She is preceded by her husband, Hershel McIntosh; a brother, Billy Ray Crawford; three sisters, Betty Wilson, Mary Alice Arnold, and Sally McIntosh; and a niece, Vickie Johnson.
    Graveside services were held Friday, April 7, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., at Winchester Cemetery, by Brother Jesse Kline.
    Scobee Funeral Home of Winchester was in charge of arrangements.

Danny Ray Barnett

    Danny Ray Barnett, 68, husband of Belinda McCoy Barnett, of Hudson Mill Road, Irvine, passed away Monday, April 3, 2023 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, following a short illness.
    He was born May 6, 1954 in Powell County to the late Clinton and Ava Snowden Barnett. He was an active member of the Salem Baptist Church and loved his church family. Danny was a graduate of Powell County High School and Central Vocational School. He served in the United States Army and was an employee of South East Coal, Gallatin Steel, and retired from Toyota Manufacturing.
    Mr. Barnett was preceded in death by his father, Clinton Barnett; a brother, Durwin "Buster" Barnett; and a brother-in-law, Gary Baber.
    Survivors, in addition to his mother, Ava Barnett, include his wife, Belinda McCoy Barnett; one son, Zachary Barnett and daughter-in-law, Melinda Barnett; two sisters, Terecia Baber and Belinda Lynn (Randy); two brothers, Mark Barnett (Billie) and Morris Barnett (Linda); sixteen nieces and nephews, and six great nieces and nephews.
    Visitation was held Thursday, April 6, 2023, 6-9 p.m., at Wells Funeral Home, Stanton. Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 7, 11:00 a.m., at the Funeral Home by Bro. Jerry Smith.
    Burial was in Powells Valley Cemetery with Mark Barnett, Morris Barnett, Randy Lynn, Mitchell Clay Ratliff, Zachary Barnett, and Melinda Barnett serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Rodney Snowden and James Brashear.
    Fellowship followed the graveside service at Salem Baptist Church.

Reverend Marion Brewer, 87


Reverend Marion Brewer

    Reverend Marion Brewer, age 87, devoted husband of Janice Winders Brewer, departed this Earth to his Heavenly Home on Saturday, April 1, 2023, surrounded by his family.
    Born on May 2, 1935, in Stanton, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Charlie and Mollie Centers Brewer. He was a graduate of Powell County High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp after graduation. Staff Sergeant Marion Brewer was a proud United States Marine serving active duty from 1953-1961. He was a Korean War Veteran. During his service time, Marion received many honors; the Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
    Marion married the love of his life, Janice, on October 24, 1955. Bro. Brewer, as he was affectionately called, pastored many churches during his 63-year tenure as a minister. He pastored Powell’s Valley Baptist Church in Clay City, Kentucky from 1967-2000. He most recently pastored Beech Grove Baptist Church and Cow Creek Baptist Church in Irvine, Kentucky. He was also a member of Salem Baptist Church. Bro. Brewer was Director of the Powell County Senior Citizens for 10 years and a member of MEPCO Home Health Board for many years. He lived his life serving others and sharing the gospel. He could often be found reading his Bible, “the good book”, as he called it.
    Left to carry on his legacy, Reverend Marion Brewer is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Janice Brewer; three daughters: Debbie Means (Jay), Teresa Noble (Brandy) and Brenda Johnson (Anthony); grandchildren: Brooke Mays (Kevin), Shayna Campbell (Jackie Watts), Sarah Rogers (Derrick) , and David Johnson; great grandchildren: Kamryn Kennon, Keegan Lacy, Garrett Mays, Sophia Rogers, Olivia Rogers, Delaney Johnson and JJ Watts; great, great grandchild, Marli Angel; sisters: Dee Neal (Joe) and Pearl Lee; bonus granddaughters: Jessica Townsend, Sarah Conner and Paula Stidham; and a special brother and sister in Christ, Bro John and Mildred Ryder.
    In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, John, Louie, and Larry Brewer.
    Funeral services officiated by Brother John Ryder with special words from Brother Jerry Smith will be conducted on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m., Tuesday, April 4th, also at the funeral home.
    Burial will take place at Donnie G. Randall Memorial Veterans Cemetery with Jay Means, Anthony Johnson, Brandy Noble, David Johnson, Kevin Mays, Jackie Watts, and Derrick Rogers serving as pallbearers.
    Honorary pallbearers are childhood best friend, Foster Rose; Ministers of the Boone’s Creek Baptist Association, Members of Winchester’s Harold G. Epperson Marine Corps League Detachment 1113; Medical Staff of the VA Medical Center, Dr. James Kevin Holbrook; brother-in-law Joe Neal, and nephews, Darin Lee, Duane Lee, John Charles Brewer, Shannon Brewer, and Greg Neal.

    Dewey Wayne Campbell, age 63, husband of Wendy Ritchie Campbell, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.
    He was born July 1, 1959 in Campton, Kentucky to the late Dewey and Betty Yeary Campbell. He was a retired construction worker and board member at Harbor Light Worship Center.
    Survivors include his wife, Wendy Campbell; ason, Danny Campbell (Angela), Flemingsburg; and Vanessa Gill, Mt. Sterling; grandchildren, Kayla McCoy (Jacob), Bobby Gill III (Journey), Derek Gill, Shelbi Gill, and Ethan Campbell; and great grandchildren, Isabella, Kenzi, Ian, Grey, Carter, Porter, Jax, and Layla.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Betty Campbell.
    Services will be held Tuesday, April 4, 2023, 2:00 p.m., at Wells Funeral Home, Stanton, by Bro. Jimmy Cole. Visitation will be held Monday, 6-9 p.m.
    Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery with Jordan Ritchie, Aaron Muncie, Tyler Muncie, James Watkins Jr., Danny Hon, and John Wagner serving a pallbearers.
    Honorary pallbearers serving will be Tony Combs, members of the Harbor Light Worship Center, employees of Hospice East, members of Ark of Mercy; nieces and nephews.

    Sherry Lee Hobbs Profitt of Irvine, Kentucky, departed this life Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the age of 67 years.
    She was a daughter of the late Charles L. Hobbs and Flora Whisman Hobbs, born in Campton, Kentucky on July 29, 1955. She was a factory worker.
    Sherry is survived by her sister, Valerie Hobbs of Ravenna, Kentucky.
    She is preceded in death by her daughter, Leyla Jo Hobbs; her parents, Charles L. Hobbs and Flora Whisman Hobbs; and one brother, Charles Leo Hobbs. She also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

    Pamela Jean Wertz Powell, age 61, of Irvine, Kentucky, departed this life on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at the Saint Joseph Medical Center in London, Kentucky, following a brief illness.
    Pamela was born on March 15, 1962, in Hamilton, Ohio to the late John Jr. and Imogene Brandenburg Wertz.
    In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
    Having lived in Estill County most of her life, Miss Powell was a homemaker who rightfully gained the title of Mom from all of her son Justin’s friends. She was a dedicated mother and granny. Pamela gave the gift of life in her final days by being an organ donor. In Pam’s own words, “This is not goodbye, its just see you later.”
    Survivors include her significant other of 14 years, Brian Estes; one son, Justin Wertz (Stevie) of Irvine; one sister, Vickie Edwards of Irvine; one brother, Wallace Frazier of Florida; two nieces, Traci Taylor of Irvine and Jodi Frazier of Florida; three grandchildren, Taylor and Alexis Crowe, and Landon Hurt; two special cousins, Debbie Abney and Jeannie Newton; along with a host of special friends, cousins, and great nieces and nephews.
    Graveside services for Pamela Jean Wertz Powell will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at the Strong-Estes Cemetery in Irvine, Kentucky with Brother Bill VanWinkle officiating.
    The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to her memorial fund C/O Lewis Home for Funerals.
    Pallbearers will be Billy Davidson, Steven LeMaster, Jerry Puckett Jr., Greg Neal, James Roberts, Gary Boyken, and Chris Lynch.

Ronald Lynn Powell

    Ronald Lynn Powell, age 68, of Elmer Richardson Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2023, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a long illness.
    He was born August 28, 1954, in Madison County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Mattie C. Powell Berger. He retired from 38 years with The Allen Company as an operator/engineer. He was a member of the Sandhill Christian Church and had lived in Estill County all his life. He enjoyed fishing, golf, the banjo, and car racing.
    Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Jean Cain Powell; three sons: Earl Powell (Jami), John Powell (Kendra), and Scott Riddle, all of Estill County; three grandchildren: Brianna Hall (Trevor), Lyndsi Powell, and Cody Powell; and one great grandchild, Melody Collett.
    He was preceded in death by his mother and his stepfather, Leonard Berger.
    Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 1, 2023, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Matt Vaught officiating. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Visitation was held on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m.
    Pallbearers were Stevie Madden, Dan Sparks, Shawn Sparks, Jason Parker, Trevor Hall, and Tim Gilbert.

    Darren Dwight Smith, age 48, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2023 at his home.
    He was born May 5, 1974 in Winchester, Kentucky to Dwight Smith and the late Patsy Abney Smith.
    Survivors include his father, Dwight Smith; a son, Tyler Mastin (Taylor); two daughters, Michaela Moreland and Hannah Jones (Daniel Creech); two grandchildren, Jase Centers and Malia Moreland; a sister, Sandy Wright; two nephews, Jordan Wright (Ashley) and Jonathan Wright; and great nieces and nephews, Kylie Richardson, Karson Wright, Konner Wright, Isabella Wright, and Nova Wright.
    He was preceded in death by his mother, Patsy Abney Smith.
    Services were held at Wells Funeral Home, Stanton, on Sunday, April 2, 2023, 3:00 p.m. by Rev. Scott Rogers and Rev. Warren Rogers. Burial was in the Puckett Cemetery with Jordan Wright, Jonathan Wright, Tommy Mays, Jeff Mays, Mike Mays, and Chad Bush serving at pallbearers.

    Rhonda Allen Barnett, age 66, of Stanton, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
    She was born in New Albany, Indiana on October 2, 1956, to the late Philip Edward Allen and Deloris Allen.
    In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael Allen and Danny Allen; and one sister-in-law, Thaleena Allen.
    Rhonda had the biggest heart and a great personality. She always had a way about her that made everyone feel special. She was inducted into the Powell County Democratic Hall of Fame in 2018 for her service as Deputy Clerk from 1994-1998 and as Powell County Court Clerk from 1998-2017. She was known for being the heart of local government.
    In addition to her mother, Rhonda is survived by her son, Shannon Boyd (Tonya Steele Williams) of Clay City; one brother, Dale Allen (Anita) of Stanton; three sisters: Janet Adams (Linville) of Owensboro, Kathy Allen Stone and Dawn Barnes (Eddie), both of Stanton; one sister-in-law, Michelle Allen of Stanton; and a host of nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services officiated by Rev. Tony Story and Rev. Garland Lacy with eulogies given by Kathy Allen Stone and Cari Allen will be conducted on Monday, April 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue in Stanton. Visitation was held on Sunday, April 2, 2023 from 4-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery in Stanton with Shannon Boyd, Andrew McIntosh, Matthew Chaney, Zach White, Tyler Allen, Brett Howard and Rocky Adams serving as active pallbearers.

Joyce Kaye Powell Albright

    Joyce Kaye Powell Albright passed away Saturday, November 19, 2022, peacefully in her home in Louisville, Kentucky. She was 71 years young and was a retired nurse of 40 years.
    She was born October 22,1951 in Estill County, Kentucky, daughter of the late Rodney Powell and Lois Watson Powell. She graduated from Berea College with her degree in Nursing in 1973; then from Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) in Indianapolis, Indiana with her Masters Degree in 1997.
    Joyce Kaye had a heart of gold and deeply cared for family and friends. That's just the kind of person she was and will be dearly missed.
    She is survived by her sister, Rita Powell-Tompkins-Wiley (Phil); her step-sister, Beverly Travelsted; her niece, Victoria Ann Tompkins; two aunts, Mamie Powell-Hudson and Wanda Watson-Grey; an uncle, Howard Watson (Patty); and several cousins and friends.
    Mrs. Albright was preceded in death by her parents, Rodney Powell and Lois Watson Powell-Travelsted; also her grandparents, Henry Powell and Dorsie Howell Powell, and Hargus Watson and Betty Embry Watson-Moore; a niece, Elizabeth Kaye Tompkins; and many aunts and uncles.
    Her Celebration of Life will be held at Irvine First Church of God, 199 Broadway Street, Irvine, Kentucky, on Saturday, April 8, 2023. Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon until memorial service at 2:00 p.m. conducted by the Honorable Donnie Watson, followed by burial at West Irvine Cemetery.
