Almus Clinton “A.C.” Chapman

    Almus Clinton “A.C.” Chapman, age 73, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023.
    Born in Bowen, Powell County, Kentucky, on January 31, 1950, he was the son of the late Almus Chapman and the late Ella Jean Smith Chapman.
    A.C. was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. Later in his life he worked as a correctional officer for the State of North Carolina Department of Corrections and as a manager for several different gas stations. He was a member of the Estill County VFW Post 8019. He was very funny and a likeable guy who was known to be quite a jokester.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Michael Chapman and Damon Ray Chapman; and one sister, Paula Combs.
    He is survived by two sons, Jason Chapman and Jeremy Chapman, both of Irvine; one daughter, Amber Rachford (John) of Berea; one sister, Vada Barnes of Irvine; and 13 grandchildren.
    Visitation will be at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky from 11:00 a,m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023 with the funeral service immediately following at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be held at the Donnie G. Randall Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Stanton with military honors.
    Serving as active pallbearers are Jason Chapman, Jeremy Chapman, Daryl Chapman, Derick Norton, Boone Tucker and Dean Tucker.

Danny Boyd

    Danny Boyd, 81, husband of Orene Peck Boyd, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Clark Regional Medical Center, Winchester, Kentucky.
    He was born August 23, 1941 in Powell County, Kentucky, to Noga and Mintie Kay Hall Boyd.
    Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Orene Boyd; a daughter, Robin Watts; three sons, Joe Boyd, Randy Boyd (Onesia), and Steven Boyd; a brother, Jimmy Boyd (Bonnie); and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
    Danny was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Eugene, Noga Jr., Kenneth, and Raymond Boyd; and a sister, Gloria Ledford.
    He was a welder and farmer for over forty years, and a member of Queen Street Christian Fellowship. He loved being surround by his close family and friends, and was a loving papaw to all of his grandchildren. Danny especially enjoyed bluegrass music, cooking, and gardening. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
    Services will be held Saturday, April 22, 2023, 1:00 p.m., Wells Funeral Home, 777 West College Avenue, Stanton, by Pastor Tracy Crouch. Visitation will be held Friday, April 21st, 5-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
    Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery with Dawson Boyd, Austin Napier, Kevin Ledford, Terry Boyd, Randy Boyd, Kolby Boyd, Joey Boyd, Steve Boyd, and Bobby Stambaugh.
    Honorary pallbearers serving are Teresa Kinser, Wendell Napier, Wayne Boyd, Clyde Peck, Warren Peck, Milton Peck, Melvin Atkinson, Steve Bentley, Lester Kiser, Billy Hall, Charles Boyd, Hoppy Parks, Mike Doyle, Ronnie Halsey, Chris Halsey, Steven Bricknell, Tom Baker, Dr. Sandra McCoy; and Fresenius Kidney Care and Clark Regional Medical Center's doctors and nursing staff.

Elsie King

    Elsie King, age 81, of Barnes Mountain Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, following a long illness.
    She was born July 22, 1941, in Estill County and was the daughter of Omer and Georgie Mae Gilbert Williams. She retired from Carhartt where she worked as a seamstress. She was a member of the Beattyville Church of the Nazarene and had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Mrs. King is survived by two sons: Ricky Allen (Shirley) Isaacs of Lee County; Sammie Glen King (Chasity) of Estill County; one sister, Rosalee Richardson of Estill County; one brother, Gary Wayne Williams of Estill County; four grandchildren: Lynn Griffin, Ricky Allen Isaacs Jr., Brittney King, and Aiden King; and two great grandchildren, Hannah Isaacs and Mackensley Griffin.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sammie King; one sister, Dorothy Gabbard; and one brother, Delbert Williams.
    Funeral services were conducted Sunday, April 23, 2023, 2:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Bowles officiating. Burial was at the West Irvine Cemetery. Visitation was held on Sunday from 12 Noon to service time at 2:00 p.m.
    Pallbearers were Ricky Allen Isaacs Jr., Chris Griffin, Aiden King, Justin Riddell, Jeff Crouch, and Jeffrey Crouch.

William Ledford

    William Ledford, age 65, of Stanton, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at the Stanton Nursing and Rehab. Center.
    He was born March 24, 1958, in Winchester, Kentucky to Marion and Pearlie Mae Helton Ledford.
    He is survived by a son, Joey Ledford of Stanton; a daughter, Tiffany Herring of Richmond; two grandchildren, two great grandchildren; and a brother, Dale Ledford (Debbie) of Stanton.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Pearl Ledford.
    Funeral services were held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 20, 2023 at the Grayson Funeral Home Chapel in Clay City with Bro. William Greiser officiating. Friends visited Thursday from 5:00 p.m. till time of the service.

Julia Rae Witt

    Julia Rae Witt, age 93, went to be with her Heavenly Father Tuesday, April 18, 2023.
    She was born September 26, 1929, in Irvine, Kentucky to Otis Powell and Nanny Wilcox Powell. Julia went to Irvine High School and stayed connected to many of her friends for years.
    Julia was married on November 15, 1947 to Frank Glendon Witt of Irvine. Frank and Julia lived in Irvine where they had their first child, Phyllis, born in 1948; and then moved to Richmond, Kentucky in the early 1950’s. Julia had another child, Gina, born in 1961 in Richmond. They lived there for many years where they raised their family together.
    Mrs. Witt was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Frank Witt; her parents, and siblings, Sally Wiggins, Ruth Watson, Georgia Powell, Alan Powell, and Jean Reynolds.
    Julia was a stay-at-home mother and wife and was a great partner for Frank as he worked as a lineman for Kentucky Utilities for 38 years. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Richmond for many years and later became a member of the Rice Station Christian Church in Irvine. She was a wonderful homemaker and cook. She loved holiday traditions, picnicking, and canning and freezing the vegetables that Frank grew.
    Home life was made very special for her children, with whom she taught and shared these wonderful traditions. She loved children and loved spending time with her family. She was looking forward to the upcoming birth of another great grandchild this summer.
    Julia had a spunky personality, loved to travel and took her first airplane ride when she was 83 to Arizona to visit her sister. She loved shopping and eating out. She loved her purses, shoes and clothes to match. Her caregivers nicknamed her “The Queen” as she still carried her purse everywhere she went. They also referred to her as their “Sunshine.” She was very generous to those she loved and had compassion for others in need.
    Survivors include her daughters, Phyllis Ann Brown (Rufus) and Gina Rae McCombs (Jon); two grandchildren, Angela Brown Boyle (Chris) and Christopher McCombs (Lacee); two great grandchildren, Eric Brown and Maison Richey (Reese); one great, great granddaughter, Charlotte Richey; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
    Julia has lived in Jonesboro, Georgia with her daughter Gina for the past six years and made many friends during her time in Georgia. There will be a visitation in Jonesboro at Legacy Funeral Home, April 19, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m.
    The local visitation will be at the Lewis Home for Funerals in Irvine at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 22, 2023, prior to the funeral service to be conducted at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Mark Pearson officiating. The burial will be at West Irvine Cemetery following the service.
    Pallbearers are Christopher McCombs, David Witt, Arthur Witt, Chris Boyle, Zachary Boston, Robby Boston, and Austin Warren.
    Honorary pallbearers are Rufus Brown and Jon McCombs.

Evelyn Cecile Tackett

    Evelyn Cecile Tackett, age 77, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the Marcum and Wallace Hospital in Irvine.
    She was born January 10, 1946 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Cecil and Evelyn Lucille Mays Fox. She was retired from the Health Department.
    Evelyn is survived by a daughter, Teresa Walling Stanfield; three grandchildren; and a sister, Carolyn Gould.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Evelyn Fox; a daughter, Sandra Tackett; and a sister, Margaret Jane Rogers.
    No services are planned at this time.

    Jimmy Mayse Jr., age 69, of Irvine, Kentucky, departed this life on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at his home.
    He was born on July 14, 1953, in Beattyville, Kentucky to the late Jimmy Mayse Sr. and Bernice Reece Mayse.
    In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his brother, Arnold Lee Mayse; and two sisters, Anna Louise Mayse and Marie Dean Mayse Neal.
    Mr. Mayse is survived by his wife, Linda Faye Rogers Mayse; two sons, James Douglas Mayse (Rhonda) and Steven Dwayne Mayse (Stephanie); four grandchildren, Dillon, Debrah, Derrek, and Dakota; eight great grandchildren, Logan, Ava, Emma, Thomas, Cohen, Dallas, Cullen and Stanlee; as well as two sisters, Gladys Louise Mayse and Edna Faye Rogers (Johnny) along with numerous nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends to miss him and mourn his passing.
    A family and friends gathering will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at the Lewis Home for Funerals from 5-9:00 p.m.

    Blanche Griffett Hawkins, age 86, widow of David Leon Hawkins, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023.
    A native of Winchester, Kentucky, she was born on April 16, 1937, to the late James and Gladys Abner Griffett. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God.
    Survivors include four children, Starlena Babb, Cheryl Brewer (Ronnie), Anthony Hawkins (Haley), and Mark Hawkins (Sherry); sister, Rose Helton (Johnny); five brothers, Bobby Griffett, Danny Griffett (Jeannie), Lanny Griffett (Sandy), Stevie Griffett (Charlotte), and Billy Griffett; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family members.
    Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Landmark Baptist Church by Pastor Jimmy Muncie. Burial will follow in Clay City at the Hawkins Family Cemetery.
    Pallbearers will be Ronnie Brewer, John Wagner, Luke Hood, Jason Strange, Mike Curtis, Brent Pierce, John Crowe, and Shawn King.
    Honorary pallbearers will be her sons and brothers.

    Bonnie Clay Stone, age 95, a resident of McCready Manor in Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the Compassionate Care Center.
    He was born July 13, 1927, in Estill County and was the son of Frank and Noomie Allen Stone. He retired from the CSX Railroad and had lived in Louisville most of his life. He was a member of the South Louisville Christian Church and was a 60-year member of the Suburban Masonic Lodge.
    Mr. Stone was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Harris Stone; and is survived by one daughter, Debra Hopper of LaGrange; one son, David Stone of Hernando, Mississippi; a special stepson, Raymond Harris of Clearwater, Florida; one brother, Jim Stone of Lexington; six grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Helen McDonald; and two brothers, Lloyd Stone, and Wayne Stone.
    Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, April 18, 2023, 11:00 a.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home with Bro. Marvin Neal officiating. Burial was at the Sally Poer Cemetery. Visitation was held on Monday, April 17th from 6 to 8 p.m.

    Kevin Douglas Wasson, age 30, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington.
    He was born January 29, 1993 in Mount Sterling, Kentucky to Jay Douglas and Angelene Townsend Wasson.
    Survivors include, parents, JD and Angelene Wasson; two sons, Grayson Sons and Kashtyn Douglas Wasson; a bother, Shelby Eugene Wasson; two sisters, Latasha Byrd (Micah) and April Dawn Nolan (Cody); his girlfriend, Alyssa Blackwell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by a sister, Melanie Wasson Adkins.
    Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 13, 2023, 4:00 p.m., at the Wells Funeral Home, 777 West College Avenue in Stanton. Burial will be in Stonegate Cemetery.

William Russell Abney

    William Russell Abney, age 80, of Red Lick Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Monday, April 10, 2023, at his home following a long illness.
    He was born December 23, 1942, in Estill County and was the son of the late Hobert and Opal Stamper Abney. He retired from Advance Auto Parts and was a member of the Fitchburg Masonic Lodge. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Abney is survived by three daughters: Angela Lunsford (Steve), Debbie McIntosh, and Donna Bingham (Dwayne), all of Estill County; one son, Tony Abney (Melva) of Estill County; seven grandchildren: Kelby Browning (Breanda), Kyle Smyth (Amanda), Tyler Jordan (Amanda), Justin Bingham (Crissy), Jamie Bingham (Whitney), and Crystal Young; and 15 great grandchildren.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Hill Abney; one sister, Elizabeth Watson; and one grandchild, Aaron Jordan.
    Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 14, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the Cobb Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 13th from 6 to 9 p.m. Masonic Rites will be performed at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Funeral Home.

    Tracy Arthur Tipton, age 66, was born on March 21, 1957 on Miller’s Creek in Estill County, Kentucky, to the late Eugene Wallace Tipton and Katherine Chaney Tipton. He died Sunday, April 9, 2023 in Richmond, Kentucky.
    Mr. Tipton was preceded in death by his wife, Julia "Peachie" Stamper Tipton; his parents and his oldest brother, Eugene Wallace Tipton Jr. of Ravenna.
    Tracy is survived by his five children, Tracy Andrew Tipton, Jenny Lynn Tipton, Anita Katherine Holliman (Mikie Jr.), Archie Lee Tipton, and Amanda Rose Sizemore (Matthew); and six grandchildren, Nathan, Shelby, Kimberly, Joshua, Noah and Lydia.
    He is also survived by five brothers: Michael Lee Tipton (Jenny) of Ravenna, Paul Edward Tipton (Lavelle) of Ravenna, Charles Alvin Tipton (Heather) of Irvine, Samuel David Tipton (Crystal) of Ravenna, and John Wayne Tipton of Yellow Rock; and six sisters: Carol Ann Smith (Ronnie) of Booneville, Carrie Rose Rogers (Tony) of Ravenna, Virginia Kaye Webb (Keith) of Waco, Alfreda Mae Murphy (Dale) of Menifee County, Cassie Jean Lee Tipton of Lexington, and Jessie Marie Sebastian of West Liberty.
    Visitation will be held 1-3 p.m, Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Newman Funeral Home, 108 Center Street in Beattyville; followed by funeral services at 3:00 p.m.

    Jason Christopher Smith, 29, entered into eternal rest the morning of Sunday, April 9, 2023.
    He was born August 3, 1993 to Jason Dewayne Smith and Vanessa Townsend Chaney. He was an employee of Danimer Scientific of Winchester.
    Survivors include his father, Jason D. Smith; his mother, Vanessa Townsend Chaney (Jeff Carmichael); a son, Evander Smith; a daughter, Harper McKinney; two sisters, Tiffany Sullivan and Regina Carmichael; a brother, Aaron Carmichael; his grandparents, Robert and Linda Townsend and Steve Harrison; aunts and uncles, Veronica Robinson (Steve), Stephanie Shelton, and Jeff Smith Rogers; and cousins, Robert Rogers, Timothy Rogers, Chelsea Charles, Brandy Robinson, Steven Robinson, and Tiffany Murdock.
    He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Juanita Harrison; and grandfather, Bill Smith.
    Services will be held at Wells Funeral Home, 777 West College Avenue, Stanton, on Thursday, April 13, 1:00 p.m., by Bro. Brad Epperson. Visitation will be held Wednesday, 6-9 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Stanton Cemetery.

Donald Lawrence Shumaker

    Donald Lawrence Shumaker, age 72, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington.
    He was born November 27, 1950 in Washington Court House, Ohio to the late Donald Merle Shumaker and the late Mary Elizabeth McCoy Shumaker. Donald was a United States Navy veteran.
    Survivors include, a son, Robert M. Shumaker; two daughters, Sarah Elizabeth Branham and Carol Marie Jones; a sister Annette Dorrene Spence; and numerous grandchildren.
    Donald may have promised 99 years and 1 dark day, but he gave us the best 72 years he possibly could. He went from being a son up to a great grandfather, passing the same advice and thinning hair. May he watch us where he lies in heaven.
    Funeral services were held a 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Donnie G. Randall Veterans Cemetery in Stanton.
