Glendon Mays, 84

Glendon Mays, age 84, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at his home.
He was born on January 17, 1939, in Irvine, Kentucky to the late Wilson and Cleota Metcalf Mays.
In addition to his parents, Glendon was preceded in death by his wife, Delphine Sparks Mays; and his son, Tim Mays; along with ten brothers and sisters.
In addition to being a veteran of the United States Navy, Mr. Mays was a minister for over 50 years, including 30 years at Antioch Christian Church and over 10 years at Beaver Pond Christian Church.
Glendon is survived by his children, William Leon Mays, Stephen Mays (Helen), Pam Carpenter (Jerry), and Michael Keith Mays (Joyce Ann); seven grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, four great, great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ to miss him and mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Glendon Mays will be conducted on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Lewis Home for Funerals with Brother Matthew Wampler officiating. Interment will follow in the South Irvine Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Military graveside honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #79 Honor Guard.
The pallbearers will be Stephen and Michael Mays, Jerry Carpenter, Joe Brewer, and Michael Clark.

James Owen Henry, age 62, of 4th Street in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2023.
He was born February 8, 1961, in Madison County and was the son of Harriett Rae Tipton Henry and the late Larry Eugene Henry. He was a retired factory worker and a member of the American Legion and the Amvets Post 67. He served for 6 years in the United States Army Reserve. He had lived in Estill County for most of his life.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brother, John Eugene Henry of Morehead.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

Harry Dale Fox, 80

Harry Dale Fox was born October 5, 1942, in Estill County, Kentucky and passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at the age of 80. He was the son of the late Lloyd Fox and Beulah E. Fox Hall.
Mr. Fox retired as Supervisor at World Fiber Technology. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church and had lived in Estill County most of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Alva Wise Fox; three daughters: Tina Marie & David Arvin, Sherry Lynn Fox, and Belinda & Mark Puckett; two sons: Harry Dwain Fox and Larry Dale Fox; four grandchildren: Timothy & Ashley Arvin, Neysa & Daniel Cordial, Lance & Cindy Arvin, and Jacob & Ratisha Puckett; eight great grandchildren: Kaleb Hillard, Brennan Tuttle, Lukas Puckett, Harper Arvin, Sadie Rian Arvin, Shelby Clay Puckett, Emersyn Arvin, and Taylor Ray Puckett; and one sister, Phyllis & Earnest Davidson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Hamblin.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 29, 2023, 11:00 a.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kenny Dotson officiating. Burial will be at the Wise Farm Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 6-9 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Timothy Arvin, Lance Arvin, Jacob Puckett, Daniel Cordial, Russell Parks, and Emory Weaver.
Honorary pallbearers are Montie Parks, David Arvin, Mark Puckett, Matt Vaught, Kaleb Hillard, Brennan Tuttle, Lukas Puckett, Harper Arvin, Sadie Rian Arvin, Shelby Clay Puckett, Emersyn Arvin, and Taylor Ray Puckett.

James H. Flynn, age 62, of Little Doe Creek Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
He was born December 21, 1960, in Nicholasville, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Banty Levi and Eula Canter Flynn. He was a logger and construction worker. He had lived in Estill County most of his life.
Mr. Flynn is survived by his parents, David and Margie Canter of Irvine; four daughters: Crystal Flynn of Decatur, Indiana; Shaunna Weiland of Irvine, Eula Dawn Flynn, and Jamie Ellen Flynn; one son, Darrell Lloyd Flynn; two sisters: Kathleen Denise Webb and Kimberly Richelle Smith (Bill), both of Irvine; five brothers: Lillard Flynn (Janice), David Canter (Rebecca), both of Irvine; Geoffrey Canter (Shonna) of Waco; Michael Shaun Canter (Kristy), and Charles Devon Canter, both of Irvine; and four grandchildren: Elijah Albert Allen Grey, Jeremiah Jace Dean Weiland, McKenzie Rayne Woods, and McKenna Elyzzabeth Marie Flynn.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Lucille Pierce; two brothers, Leslie Flynn and Robert Lee Flynn; and three sisters, Connie Sue Flynn, Isabelle Watkins, and Charlotte Ann Butler.

Steven Tracy Woolery, age 74, of Wagers Mountain in Ravenna, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at the Kindred Hospital in Louisville following a long illness.
He was born January 2, 1949, in Estill County and was the son of the late Tracy Wallace and Fannie Lee Wiseman Woolery. He was retired from the CSX Railroad and was a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Irvine Masonic Lodge #137 and a former member of the Peacemakers Motorcycle Club. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
Mr. Woolery is survived by his wife, Kellie Muncie Woolery; four sons: Jeffery Woolery of Irvine, Chance Woolery, Steven Ray Woolery, both of Ravenna; and Robby Johnson; and three brothers: Michael Woolery (Connie) of Richmond; Kim Woolery and Greg Woolery (Rita), both of Irvine.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Ray Woolery; and his nephew, David Woolery.
 A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, August 12, 2023, 4:0 p.m., at the Providence Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Sizemore and Bro. Skip Johnson officiating.

James E. Tipton, age 62, passed away Monday, July 24, 2023 at his home in Beattyville, Kentucky.
He was born September 3, 1960 in Irvine, a son to the late William Tipton and Rosie Webb Tipton. He worked as a farmer most of his life.
Mr. Tipton is survived by one brother, Kenneth Tipton of Clay City, and many other loving family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rosie Tipton; and one brother Billy Tipton.
Visitation was held Thursday, July 27, 2023 from 1-2:00 p.m. at the Booneville Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Tubby Abner officiating.
James was laid to rest in the Webb Cemetery located on Old Landing Road in Beattyville.
Dale VanWinkle, 67

Dale VanWinkle, age 67, husband of 47 years to the love of his life Reva Rader VanWinkle, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
He was born March 26, 1956, in Berea, Kentucky, to the late Elwin B. and Nancy Lamb VanWinkle. Dale was a family man loved by all. He loved to travel to Tennessee with family, going out to eat on Monday mornings with his co-workers at Dairy Queen, and projects around the house. Dale was a Deacon in the Baptist Faith, enjoyed Bible study, loved the lord and singing with a quartet. He retired after 30 years of service with the City of Berea.
In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by one brother, Darrell VanWinkle.
Other than his wife, he is survived by two daughters, April Abney (Brandon) and Amy Abney (Jeremy) both of Berea; two brothers, Jeff VanWinkle (Janet) of Berea, and Bill Vanwinkle (Teri) of Irvine; three grandchildren, Andrew Miller (Denise), Caleb Abney, and Chloe Abney, all of Berea; two nephews, Barkley VanWinkle and Matt VanWinkle; two nieces, Melissa Sparks (Lester) and Kara VanWinkle; one great niece, Taylor Sparks; and one great nephew, Brent Sparks.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Davis & Powell Funeral Home in Berea. with Rev. Lee Abney officiating. Burial followed in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation was 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Andrew Miller, Caleb Abney, Barkley VanWinkle, Matt VanWinkle, Jeremy Abney, and Brandon Abney.
Honorary pallbearers were Chloe Abney, Kara VanWinkle, Melissa Sparks, Taylor Sparks, and Brent Sparks.

Juanita Clay Crouch, age 93, of Winchester, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023.
She was born February 18, 1930, to the late Stanley and Aileen Brock Crouch in Winchester.
Juanita is survived by a sister, Alice Brooks of Irvine, and a brother, William Crouch of Winchester; also several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy V. Crouch and Jane Gentry.
There was a graveside service on Wednesday, July 26, at 2:00 p.m. at the Lane Shelter in the Winchester Cemetery, .

Sarah Fauvetta Carter "Etta" Napier, 101

Sarah Fauvetta Carter "Etta" Napier, 101 years old, left her physical body Friday, July 14, 2023, at approximately 1:00 a.m., just as thunder and lightning ushered in a downpour of rain.
She was born February 2, 1922 in Harlan County, Kentucky, one of 14 children. Her parents were Susan Janette Roland Carter and Lloyd Madison Carter. She was married to Lewis Napier (deceased).
Born only two years after women gained the right to vote and the fight for women’s rights was in its infancy, Etta endured and survived wars, epidemics, economic upheaval, scientific advances, the raising of five children and a pandemic as she witnessed an entire century roll by.
She raised her family in Jackson, Kentucky, lived in Irvine, from 1985-2021, and spent the last two years of her life living with her youngest daughter and son-in-law in Plympton, Massachusetts.
Etta worked as one of the first telephone switchboard operators in Jackson, Kentucky and went on to work in and retire from the First National Bank there.
She was mother to Brenda (Dr. Charles-deceased) Terry, Stan (Sue Pinkney) Napier-deceased, Barbara Napier and Gregory L. Napier of Kentucky. Daughter Kimberly and husband Mark Russo live in Plympton Massachusetts. She had five grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
In her words she was “anxious to get to wherever she was going” and to join those who had gone before her. She leaves behind many loved ones and friends.
A private interment was held on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at the family’s Mountain Memorial Cemetery in Ravenna, Kentucky.

Barry Junior Vires, age 36, of Irvine, Kentucky departed this life on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at his home.
Barry was born on April 24, 1987, in Richmond, Kentucky to the late Donna McIntosh and Barry Vires.
Along with his father, Mr. Vires is survived by his grandmother, Wanda Sue McIntosh; his fiancée, Brandy Davis; three stepchildren, Bradley, Nykala, and Brandon; one brother, Nicholas Vires (Amanda); and a sister, Tamera McQueen; along with numerous, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends to miss him and mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Barry Junior Vires will be conducted on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at 12:00 Noon in the chapel of Lewis Home for Funerals. Brother Marvin Neal will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery in Irvine. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon on Wednesday.

Betty Lavon Noland, age 89, of Lily Avenue in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at the Marcum & Wallace Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
She was born March 29, 1934, in Irvine and was the daughter of the late Everett and Maggie Muncy Woolery. She was a homemaker and a member of the White Oak Church of God. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
Mrs. Noland is survived by one daughter, Ellen Stotts of Richmond; two sons, Phillip Noland (Connie) and Tim Noland (Kim), both of Irvine; six grandchildren: Jessica Noland (Chris), Morgen Noland, Christian Noland, Olivia Stotts, Ava Stotts, and Evan Stotts; and two great grandchildren, Lydia and Waylon Noland.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Obie Noland; one sister, Bethel Witt; two brothers, Tracy and Ronald Woolery; and one grandchild, Obie Jarrod Lee Noland.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 22, 2023, 1:00 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Glyndon Woosley and Bro. Larry Frymyer officiating. Toy Wilbur Leslie, age 81, of Irvine, Kentucky, departed this life on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at his home.
He was born on November 6, 1941, in Pikeville, Kentucky to the late Roscoe and Eunice Stepp Leslie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Tuggle Leslie; his son, Brandon Leslie; and one sister, Edith Maynard. He was a long-time employee of the Trane Company.
Toy is survived by his children, John M. "Marty" Leslie (Sheila), Andrea L. Barnes (Boone), and Tony Abney (Melva); one special niece, Linda Lou Brandenburg; along with numerous other nieces and nephews and relatives and friends to miss him and mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Toy W. Leslie will be conducted on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at 1:00 p.m.. at the Leslie Family Cemetery on Cowpen Road in Pikeville, Kentucky. Lyda Louise Wiseman, age 82, of Irvine, Kentucky, departed this life on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at the Irvine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Irvine, Kentucky.
Lyda was born on June 21, 1941, in Irvine, Kentucky to the late Louis and Martha Carroll Woolery. In addition to her parents Lyda was preceded in death by two brothers, James Woolery and Bobby Gene Woolery; three sisters, Mary Jenkins, Margaret Snowden, and Christine Abner; along with several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Wiseman is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Raymond L. Wiseman, special friends, Jackie, Becky, and Joshua Rogers, along with numerous nieces and nephews and relatives and friends to miss her and mourn her passing.
Funeral services for Lyda Louise Wiseman will be conducted on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel of Lewis Home for Funerals. Brother Marvin Neal will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Dunaway Cemetery in Irvine, Kentucky. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Garry D. Collett, age 73, departed this life on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at the Baptist Health Care Facility in Richmond, Kentucky.
He was born on August 15, 1949, in Richmond, Kentucky to the late John D. and Minnie Marcum Collett. Garry was an engineer for many years with CSX Railroad.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Collett is preceded in death by one son, Garry D. Collet II.
He is survived by his wife, Eddie Watson Collett of Irvine; and a daughter, Teresa Michelle Collett (Greg) of Richmond; as well as other relatives and friends to miss him and mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Garry D. Collett will be conducted on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lewis Home for Funerals with eulogy delivered by Donnie Watson. Interment will follow in the Congleton Cemetery in Irvine. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Tilda Teresia Hall, age 68, a resident of the Irvine Nursing and Rehab Center, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at her home following a short illness.
She was born August 12, 1954, in Richmond, Indiana and was the daughter of the late Melvin Edward Hall and Katherine Ruby Cole Hall. She had many careers in her life; she served as an EMT, 911 dispatcher, seamstress for Carhartt, truck driver, and office worker for Kentucky River Foothills. She was a member of Restoration Now Ministries, and she had lived in Estill County for most of her life.
She is survived by two daughters, Cassie Roberts (Steven) and Veronica Lay (Ronald), both of Estill County; one sister, Hazel Diane Morton (Gregory “Buck”) of Estill County; one brother, Jonathan Shane Hall (Beverly) of Estill County; and several nieces and nephews.
No services are scheduled at this time.

Joan Carol Basham, age 80, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Monday, July 17, 2023. She was born March 21, 1943 in Clark County, Kentucky, to Thomas and Mavis Haggard. She was a member of the Sun Valley General Baptist Church.
She is survived by her partner, Doug Adams of Ravenna; a son, James Rogers (Angela) of Waco, Kentucky; three step-daughters, Sandy Wheeler (Kenny), Trish Blackaby (Shayne) and Jeanie Covert (John); two grandchildren, two brothers, James Haggard and Mike Faulkner; and a sister, Modena Dailey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Basham; a son, John David Rogers; and a sister, Betty O’Hair.

Brandon Clay Rogers, 38, passed away Friday, July 28, 2023 at Clark Regional Medical Center, Winchester.
He was born July 21, 1985 in Winchester, to the late Mary Sheryl Tester Rogers and Donny Rogers. He was a United States Marines veteran.
Survivors include his father, Donny Rogers; two daughters, Rylee Ballard and Brookelynn Winship; two sisters, Regina Whisman (Gary) and Melanie Watkins (James); nieces and nephews, Rheannon Rison, Treylen Whisman, Keeleah Watkins, and Keegan Watkins; and a great nephew, Oliver Rison.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Sheryl Rogers; a son, Brayden Rogers; and a great niece, Brinlee Tyler Gray.
Services will be held Thursday, August 3, 2023, 1:00 p.m., at Wells Funeral Home, 777 West College Avenue, Stanton, by Bro. Ryan Robinson. Visitation is on Wednesday, August 2nd, 5-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cobb Hill Cemetery with military honors.

She was born in Floyd County, Kentucky, August 10, 1945, to John and Virginia Bray. She was a housewife and a member of the Spruce First Church of God.
Mrs. Fish is survived by four daughters, Jana Cecil (Justin), Cathy Smith (Arnie), both of Jeffersonville; Bobbie Gilbert (Rick) of Monticello, and Alice Edmiston of Pikeville; 14 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Glen Fish; two sons, Eagle Glen Fish and George Owens; a brother, Virgil Bray; and five sisters, Helen Walters, Sharon Owens, Sissy Shephard, Mary Shephard and Betty Shephard.

Earl Thomas Hall, age 58, of Winchester, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2023 his residence.
He was born August 3, 1964 in Winchester to Vernon and Catherine Lorein Robinson Hall. He was a farmer.
Mr. Hall is survived by his wife, Angela Townsend Hall; six sons, Ryan Hall (Destiny), Luke Hall (Katelyn), Brandon Hall (Kimberly Lucas), Austin Hall, Steven Hall, and Michael Morris (Bridget); five daughters, Tiffanie Hall, Stephanie Ballard (Brendan), Rebecca Aparicio (Hector), Sherry Willoughby (Anthony), and Madison Hall; 15 grandchildren; three brothers, Steve Hall, Vernon Hall, and Kevin Hall; and a sister, Marilyn Hensley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Catherine Hall; and a brother, Robert Hall.

Logan Keith Profitt, 26

Logan Keith Profitt, age 26, husband of Sara Michelle Rogers Profitt of Ravenna, passed away Monday, July 24, 2023 at UK Medical Center in Lexington.
Born in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, on June 23, 1997, he was the son of Keith and Charlotte Lane Profitt. Logan had served in the United States Army and was currently employed with Tunista Logistics Solutions as a group leader. He attended Bowen First Church of God.
His character was of a strong and kind man. He loved to read and was great with computers. He enjoyed playing Yu-Gi-Oh cards and loved to joke around and pick on those he loved. He was a jack of all trades and was a great Philadelphia Eagles fan. Logan loved his wife and was excited to become a father to their precious daughter.
Logan was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Oren Jay Lane.
Along with his wife and his parents, Logan is survived by his paternal grandparents, Charlie and Darlene Slemp; his maternal grandmother, Pauline Ballard Lane; one sister, Cheyenne Cox (Michael) of Stanton; his parents-in-law, Bobby and Susan Rogers; and two uncles: Richard Lane (Sharon) and David Slemp, both of Clay City.
Visitation was held at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue in Stanton from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2023. Funeral services officiated by Bro. Terry Frerichs and Bro. Stephen Donithan were conducted on Friday, July 28th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home as well. Burial was at the Donnie G. Randall Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Stanton with Logan Stewart, Donovan Poe, Zack Knox, Dylan Oaks, Cade Ball and Noah Freeman serving as active pallbearers. Irene Hall Strange, 63, passed away Friday, July 21, 2023 at Waynesburg Manor in Lincoln County, Kentucky.
She was born August 2, 1959 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Lottie Spencer Pugh and Albert Hall.
Irene is survived by her son, Gerald Thomas Bishop Jr.; a daughter, Cassie Bishop; two brothers, Charles Hall and Joe Pugh; three sisters, Kathy Hall, Betty Townsend, and Shirley Catron; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Bishop; five brothers, Oscar Hall, Vince Hall, Vernon Hall, Ricky Pugh, and Oliver Hall; and two sisters, Alberta Meeks and Bernice Phelps.
Services were held Tuesday, July 25, 2023, 6:00 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home in Stanton with Bro. Lonnie Meeks officiating. Visitation was held Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. Burial was in the Clay City-Eaton Cemetery.

Henry Rowland Scott, age 84, widower of Phyllis Jean Campbell Scott, passed away Friday, July 21, 2023 at his home.
He was born June 9, 1939 in Dunwoody, Powell County, Kentucky to the late Henry Ellis and Lillie Mae Bishop Scott. Henry was a member of the Walnut Grove Church of God.
Survivors include a son, Rocky Scott (Leslie); daughters, Robin Kincaid (Tony), Rhonda Snapp (Robert), and Roxanne Coldiron (Lonnie); grandchildren, Tonya Young (Aaron), Brian Scott, Jessica Martin (Clevie Rowe), Randy Martin (Lori), Zach Hall (Mercedes), Chelsea Morrison (Justin Knoblett), Brianna Hunt (John), and Dalen Coldiron; great grandchildren, Savannah Scott, Riley Goode, Braxton Rowe, Laikyn Rowe, Krayson Newsome, Kali Morrison, Allie Morrison, Paisley Morrison, Logan Tillery, Jacey Armstrong, and Johnny Hunt; bonus grandchildren, Allen Wilson and Kaylynn Wilson; and a brother, Shirley Scott.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Phyllis Jean Scott; his parents, brothers, Gordon Scott and Kenneth Scott; half-sister, Flossie Trent; and half-brothers, Vernon Scott, Opal Scott, and Charlie Scott.
Services will be held Tuesday, July 25, 2023, 1:00 p.m., at Wells Funeral Home, 777 West College Avenue, Stanton, by Rev. Eddie Dawson. Visitation will be held Tuesday 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Burial will be in in Resthaven Cemetery with pallbearers Randy Martin, Zachary Hall, Dalen Coldiron, Brian Scott, Cleavie Rowe, and Aaron Young.
Honorary pallbearers are Mercedes Roberts, Justin Knoblett, and the wonderful staff at Hospice East.
