Robin Charles “Bobby” Callahan

    Robin Charles “Bobby” Callahan, age 62, of Lexington Road in Richmond, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Baptist Health in Richmond, following a long illness.
     He was born August 30, 1961, in Dayton, Ohio and was the son of Edna Betsy Jones Vancil and the late Clifton Carlton Callahan. He was a Kroger employee and a member of the Wagersville Pentecostal Church. He had served in the National Guard and was a member of the VFW.
     Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Betty Bernice Mays Callahan; three stepdaughters, Cynthia Foster of Madison County; Rachel Woody of Laurel County; and Vanessa Conn of Madison County; one stepson, Jason Knight of Madison County; four sisters, Christina Callahan, Lisa Hock, both of Ohio; Donna Tipton (Ronnie), and Dianna Callahan (Dewey McKinney), both of Estill County; one brother, Clifton “Bo” Callahan, Jr. (Bonita) of Estill County; ten step-granddaughters and one step-grandson; two step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
     Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 17, 2024, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Rose and Bro. Sidney Sparks officiating. Burial will be at the Callahan Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
     Pallbearers are Dylan Callahan, Logan Callahan, R.J. Tipton, Bo Callahan, Jason Knight, and Dakota Gordon.

Eric Wolfinbarger

    Eric Wolfinbarger, age 73, of Trotting Ridge Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Irvine Nursing and Rehab Center following a short illness.
     He was born August 13, 1950, in Estill County and was the son of the late Edford “Peach Seed” Wolfinbarger and Joy McIntosh Wolfinbarger Hall. He retired from Wolfinbarger Auto Supply, and he formerly served in the National Guard. He was a member of the American Legion and he had lived in Estill County for most of his life.
     Mr. Wolfinbarger is survived by his wife, Rosemary Kelly Wolfinbarger; his daughter, Susan Rae Wolfinbarger of Arlington, Virginia; one sister, Mia Newman of Estill County; and two brothers, Duff Wolfinbarger and Herbert Wolfinbarger, both of Estill County.
     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeremy Brent Wolfinbarger; and one brother, Adair Wolfinbarger.
     Funeral services were conducted Monday, January 15, 2024, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Harold Kelly officiating. Burial was at the Turpin Cemetery. Visitation was held on Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Steven Mitchell Baber

    Steven Mitchell Baber, age 69, of White Oak Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchestere, following a long illness.
     He was born May 21, 1954, in Madison County and was the son of the late Devoe “Bo” and Wilma Hunt Baber. He was a retired CSX Railroad employee and a member of the Williams Memorial Baptist Church. He was a member and Past Master of the Stafford #562 Masonic Lodge and a member of the Irvine Lodge Chapter and Council. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
     Mr. Baber is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kimberly Winkler Baber; one daughter, Devon Traci Baber of Estill County; two sons, Jason Neil Baber and Steven Clay Baber (Ashleigh), both of Estill County; and three grandchildren, Aidan Christopher Baber, Jackson Mitchell Baber, and Lena Grace Baber.
     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Christopher Mitchell Baber and Joshua Hunt Baber; and his brother, Gary Baber.
     Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 13, 2024, 11 a.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Chris Winkler officiating. Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Friday from 6-9 p.m. with Masonic Rites at 7:30 p.m.
     Pallbearers are Jason Baber, Aidan Baber, Clay Baber, James W. Richardson, Larry Stewart, and Mike Chaney.

Gary Dewayne Baker

    Gary Dewayne Baker, age 70, of Clay City, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at the Compassion Care Center in Richmond, on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
    Gary was born November 10, 1953, and grew up in Clay City in a home of ten children that included nine brothers and one sister. He was the proud owner of Bakers Auto Sales, serving his community with pride for many years.
    Ann and Gary were married on December 21, 1979, and shared 44 wonderful years together. Gary loved attending the local area auctions; estate and automotive dealer. He enjoyed buying and trading items he would find with those around him. He loved spending time with family and his close friends, working on the family farm, or working on automobiles of all types, traveling or playing a good card game with his nieces and nephews. Gary had a passion for those around him; his love for his family and others was contagious. He enjoyed catching up each evening with his friends via phone or a personal visit. He was incredibly proud of his family and always was the first one in line to love and support them. He enjoyed life to the fullest, always sharing his humor, a smile and a good laugh with each person he met daily.
    Gary is survived by his wife, Melissa Ann Baker of Clay City; two brothers, Carl Raymond Baker and Clyde Sammuel Baker; a sister, AnnaBelle Haddix; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and god-children.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Sidney Oliver Baker; his mother, Anna Mae Baker; his brothers, Ray Clayborn Baker, Lewis Frank Baker, Kelly Emerson Baker, Everette Clay Baker, Sidney Oliver Baker Jr., and Charles Morguson Baker.
    Visitation will be Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. followed by services at 1 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home officiated by the Rev. Harold Kelly. Burial will be immediately following the service at the Stonegate Cemetery.
    The family is honored to have pallbearers Dewayne Myers, Wes Brewer, C.J. Hensley, Stephen Rogers, Robbie Puckett, and Ricky Charles.

    Bertie Mae Floyd, age 91, of North Sulpher Wells Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024, following a long illness.
    She was born January 21, 1932, in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Hallie Rose Hawkins. She was a Homemaker and a member of the Spout Springs Baptist Church, where she served as a Piano Player, Singer, Sunday School Teacher, and Bible School Teacher. She had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Mrs. Floyd was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Floyd, and she is survived by one daughter, Demetria Rogers (Michael) of Estill County; three sons: Anthony D. Floyd (Sandra Kay) of Powell County; Timothy P. Floyd (Vonda) and Mark Floyd (Donna), both of Estill County; one sister, Sue Caldwell of Jackson County; one brother, Russell Hawkins of Ohio; eight grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; and a special niece, Tamara Fox.
    In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Addie Lee Cummins; and four brothers, Henry, Willie, Raymond, and Tommy Hawkins Jr.
    Funeral services were conducted Friday, January 12, 2024, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Timothy Floyd officiating. Burial was at the Johnny Richardson Cemetery. Visitation was held on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Carolyn Schirmer

    Carolyn Schirmer, age 62, of Clay City, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at the Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester.
    She was born October 24. 1961 in Dayton, Ohio to Albert and Eileen Potts. She was a former employee of IGA.
    Carolyn is survived by two sons, Ryan Schirmer and Tyler Schirmer; three daughters, Megan Becerra (Marcus), Brooke Schirmer (Matt) and Ashley Schirmer; and three grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Friday, January 12, 2024 at the Grayson Funeral Home Chapel in Clay City, with Bro. James Harold Combs officiating. Friends visited Friday from 1 p.m. till time of the service. Burial was in the Salem Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family ask donations be made to Grayson Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.

    Dena Whisman, age 62, of Stanton, Kentucky, passed away at Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, Kentucky, on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
    She was born in Middletown, Ohio, on June 30, 1961, to the late Osa Raymond Whisman and the late Mildred Albin Whisman. Dena was a kind-hearted person who loved her family and friends dearly. She cherished spending time with her grandson and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. In addition to her loving nature, Dena had a passion for photography. She enjoyed capturing beautiful moments with her camera and was known for her ever-present smile, earning her the nickname "Smiley".
    Dena is survived by her son, Brian Whisman (Henryetta); three brothers, David Whisman of Stanton, Jack Whisman (Linda) of Mount Vernon, and Michael Whisman (Rose) of Wells, Texas; four sisters, Carolyn King (Kenneth) of Owingsville, Goldie Allen (Stanley) of Middletown, Ohio; Kimberly Whisman of Stanton, and Debra Roberson (Tom) of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; and one grandchild, Braylen Scott Whisman.
    Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton. Funeral services, officiated by Brother Thomas Rogers, will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 14, 2024.
    Burial will be held at Whisman Cemetery in Rogers, Kentucky, with Kenneth King, Shawn King, Nathan Richardson, Clinton Brown, Joshua King, and Marcus Gomaz serving as active pallbearers.

Ivan Preston “Pete” Ashcraft

    Ivan Preston “Pete” Ashcraft, age 58, of Ravenna, Kentucky, departed this life on Monday, January 8, 2024, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
    Ivan was born on May 24, 1965, in Lexington, Kentucky, to the late James and Alberta Kirby Ashcraft.
    In addition to his parents, Ivan was preceded in death by one brother, James Ashcraft Jr.; and two sisters, Mary Hackworth and Emma Hackworth.
    Ivan loved the Lord. He loved dirt track racing, listening to Bluegrass Gospel music and spending time with his family and friends. Ivan “Pete” will be greatly missed.
    Survivors include four children, Tyler Preston, Tamara, Breanna and Micha Ashcraft; one grandchild, Presley Reay; a brother, Danny Ashcraft; and two sisters, Linda Muncy (Charlie Bill) and Ruth Ann Hackworth; along with many other relatives and friend to miss him and mourn his passing.
    Funeral services for Ivan Preston “Pete” Ashcraft will be conducted on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Lewis Home for Funerals. Brother Sidney Sparks will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Kirby Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Jackie David Dial, age 81, of Laurel Street in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, following a long illness.
    He was born February 8, 1942, in Adair County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Robert and Rose Wilson Dial. He was a United States Army Veteran. He was a Sales Manager for WCBR, and he attended the Millers Creek Church of God. He had lived in Estill County for most of his life.
    Mr. Dial is survived by his wife, Cleta Mae Embs Dial; one daughter, Carol Renee Wright of Estill County; three sisters, Brenda Hamm of Stanford, Freida Sue Dial of Tennessee, and Judy Hadley of South Carolina; and one grandchild, Matthew Wayne Wright.

     He was born February 21, 1955 to Paul and Helen Ingram. He was a truck driver.
     Mr. Ingram is survived by a son, Kevin Ingram; five grandchildren; and three brothers, Hubert Morrison (Glenna), Kermit Morrison (Evelin), and Roger Morrison (Sandy).
     He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Ingram; his mother, Helen Marie Morrison; his wife, Katherine Ingram; a son, William Ingram; a brother, George Brown; and two sisters, Louise Ledford and Violet Davis.

    John David Moreland, age 45, of Wisemantown Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2024, at his home.
     He was born March 22, 1978, in Fayette County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Michael Lynn and Ann Winn Moreland. He attended the Wisemantown Methodist Church and he had lived in Estill County all his life.
     Mr. Moreland is survived by one daughter, Berkley Wynne Moreland of Missouri; one sister, Amanda Lynn Toler of Estill County; one nephew, Cade Toler; and one niece, Ava Toler.
     A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Kenneth Michael "Kenny" Morton, 71


Kenneth Michael "Kenny" Morton

    Kenneth Michael "Kenny" Morton passed away on January 6, 2024, after a long illness at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
    Kenny was born on Cane Creek in Stanton, Kentucky, on September 22, 1952, to Paul and Vina King Morton. He graduated from Vandalia Butler High School in Vandalia, Ohio. After graduating, Kenny came back to Stanton, where he spent most of his summers. He would dedicate a large portion of his work career in the automotive parts and repair industry. Most notable, Kenny would spend most of that time at Napa Auto Parts in Stanton.
    He would eventually make a new work home at the Powell County Bus Garage, first as bus driver then as a bus mechanic. Kenny also kept a small home business with ATV repair, Sudden Motion ATV.
    Kenny would retire and spent the majority of his retirement with his grandchildren and friends. He loved spending time with family and friends, Kentucky ball games and cooking.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Morton.
    Kenny was married to his wife, Teresa Townsend Morton, for 42 years and resided in Clay City.
    He leaves behind a daughter, Shona Morton Baisden of New Vienna, Ohio; two sons, Ian Morton (Bridget) of Stanton and Steven Morton of Clay City; three grandsons, Caleb and Caden Morton of New Vienna, Ohio; and Benjamin Burt of Stanton; two granddaughters, Kendall and Stella Morton of Stanton; his mother, Vina Morton; two brothers, Kevin Morton and Leslie Morton (Stephanie); and a sister, Nennia Seagraves (Curt).
    Services will be held Thursday, January 11, 2024, 1 p.m., at Wells Funeral Home, 777 West College Avenue, Stanton, by Rev. James Harold Combs. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 10th, 6-9 p.m., at the funeral home.
    Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery with Neal Hamilton, Ben Burt, Jason Shaner, Mutt Willoughby, Caleb Morton, and Jason Conner serving as pallbearers.

    Lena C. Rogers, age 79, widow of Shirley Ray Rogers, passed away Friday, January 5, 2024 at Clark Regional Medical Center, Winchester, Kentucky.
     She was born June 14, 1944 in Campton, Kentucky to the late Orival and Cleda Alexander Wireman. Lena was devout and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was the co-owner of Ray Rogers Insurance Agency and a member of the Bowen First Church of God.
     Survivors include her son, Timothy Ray Rogers (Stacy); two daughters, Teresa Rogers King and Lori Beth Mays (Jason); grandchildren, Bethany Childers (Jerrod), Danielle Eades (Kyle), Brett King (Kristin), Taylor Townsend (Aaron), Hunter Clay Martin, Trenton Ray Rogers, Jayse Mays and Raegan Mays; great grandchildren, Jayden Childers, Presley Childers, and Beckett Townsend; two brothers, Bernard Wireman (Rosalee) and Randle Wireman; one sister, Darlene Watson; and many nieces and nephews.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Shirley Ray Rogers; and a sister, Wanda Lee Everman.

    He was born January 30, 1957, in Madison County and was the son of the late Virgil and Mary Marcum Isaacs. He was a Logger for Isaacs Lumber and attended the Pine Hill Baptist Church. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Isaacs is survived by his wife, Edith Osborne Isaacs; one stepson, Marty Stamper of Estill County; one sister, Betty Taylor of Estill County; and one grandchild, Kayle Stamper.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ann Isaacs; and five brothers, Ernest, Bobby, Charlie, Billy, and Ronnie Isaacs.

    She was born April 6, 1962, in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Melvin and Jessie Berryman Rawlins. She was a Homemaker and had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Mrs. VanWinkle is survived by her husband, Allen Wayne VanWinkle; one daughter, Chasity VanWinkle of Estill County; two sisters, Sharon Hardy of Estill County and Jennifer Miller of Rockcastle County; one brother, Melvin Rawlins of Estill County; and one grandchild, Kaitlynn VanWinkle.

    Tracy Wallace Arvin, 83, widower of Shirley JoAn Arvin, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at the Stanton, Kentucky, Nursing Center.
    He was born April 8, 1940 to the late Melard and Ethel Holly Arvin.
    Survivors include two sons, Tracy Wallace Arvin II (Barbara) and Timothy Lee Arvin; and numerous grandchildren.
    In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Lynn Rankin.

Alberta May Hackworth

    Alberta May Hackworth, age 34, of Churchill, Tennessee, departed this life on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee.
    Alberta was born on December 4, 1989, in Richmond, Kentucky to the late Owen G. Hackworth and Ruth Ashcraft Hackworth.
    Survivors include, along with her mother, one brother, Danny Ashcraft; an aunt and uncle, Linda and Charlie Bill Muncy; one special nephew who was more like a brother, Danny Ashcraft Jr.; one special niece, Kendra Ashcraft; and one special cousin, Allen Wayne Hackworth; as well as numerous other relatives and friends to miss her and mourn her passing.
    Funeral services for Alberta May Hackworth will be conducted on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Lewis Home for Funerals by Brother Sidney Sparks. Interment will follow in the Kirby Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service from 11 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers will be Brison, Billy, Parker and Charlie Bill Muncy; Allen Wayne and Allen Jeffrey Hackworth; Phillip Kirby and Levi Ross.

Shirley Temple Conner

    Shirley Temple Conner, age 80, widow of John "Peanut" Conner, passed away Monday, January 1, 2024 at University of Kentucky Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
    She was born August 14, 1943 in Clay City to the late Sam and Mattie Tipton Wells.
    Survivors include one daughter, Edna Campbell; one son, Sammy Conner; a sister, Gathel Roberts; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and nine great, great grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Mattie Tipton Wells; her husband, John "Peanut" Conner; two brothers, Larry Wells and Gordon Wells; and a grandson, Sammy Conner Jr.
    Services will be held Friday, January 5, 2024, 2 p.m., at Wells Funeral Home, 777 West College Avenue, Stanton by Bro Rob Rice. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 4th, 5-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
    Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery with Jammie Conner, Matthew Campbell, Jimmy Campbell, Wayne Pitts, Austin Smith, and James Wells serving as pallbearers.

Dennis Lee Ousley

    Dennis Lee Ousley, age 79, of Old Boonesboro Road in Winchester, Kentucky, passed away Monday, January 1, 2024, at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset following a long illness.
    He was born March 10, 1944, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, a son of the late Orville B. and Alvie Stephens Ousley. He retired from Bosch Rexroth where he was a Manufacturing Engineer and Toolmaker. He had lived in Estill County most his life.
    Mr. Ousley was preceded in death by his wife, Verlon Edwards Ousley.
    He is survived by his son, Greg Ousley (Stephanie) of Somerset; one brother, Dallas Ousley of Madison County; and three grandchildren, Katlin Ousley, Zachary Ousley, and Luke Thomas Ousley.
    In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Ray Ousley and James Thomas Ousley.
    Funeral services were conducted Friday, January 5, 2024, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Tommy Edwards with burial following in the West Irvine Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Pallbearers were Greg Ousley, Luke Ousley, Zachary Ousley, Greg Williams, Brent Kerr, and Ragan Williams.
    In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested for Lake Cumberland Hospice, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, KY 42503.

    Rebecca Carroll, age 49, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2023 at the Marcum and Wallace Hospital.
    She was born July 9, 1974 in Irvine to Douglas and Glenna Carroll.
    Rebecca is survived by a daughter, Megan Hoover; a granddaughter, Layla Hebert; a brother, James Carroll; and three sisters, Sherry Dixon (Donnie), Connie Sparks (Ernie), and Elizabeth Dotson (Larry).
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas Carroll and Glenna Riddell Hall; and a sister, Patricia Carroll.
    A private family service was held Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at the Grayson Funeral Home Chapel in Irvine with Bro. Jerry Rose officiating. Burial followed in the Gary Riddell Cemetery in Irvine.

    Jamie Elizabeth Johnson, age 57, wife of Russell Johnson, passed on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at the Irvine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Irvine, Kentucky.
    Jamie was born July 13, 1966 in Norton, Virginia, a daughter to James and the late Vina Morrison Phillips. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Beattyville.
    She is survived by her husband, Russell Johnson of Beattyville; her father, James Edward Phillips of Wise, Virginia; one son, Jimmy Joe Phillips (Rebecca) of Wise, Virginia; one stepson, Robert Johnson; one daughter, Rebecca Lane of Vanover, Virginia; three stepdaughters, Linda Johnson, Ashley Johnson, and Laura Johnson; and one brother, James Phillips of Western Kentucky; along with many other loving family members and friends.
    She was preceded in death by her mother, Vina Morrison Phillips.
    Visitation will be held Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 1-2 p.m. at the Booneville Funeral Home followed by funeral services to be held at 2 p.m. with Pastor James Dunahoo officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Johnson-Newton Cemetery, located in Lee County, Kentucky.

Melvin Wiseman

    Melvin Wiseman, age 84, went to be with the lord on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Irvine Nursing and Rehab Center after a short illness.
    Melvin was born on December 24, 1939, in Estill County and remained in Estill County all his life. He was the son of the late Ed and Polly Neal Wiseman.
    In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Betina Sue Horn Wiseman; and two sisters, Crecie Babb and Elsie Henry.
    Melvin was dedicated to all sports in the county and employed many young men in the county thru the years. He loved the Lord, his family and his friends with all he had. He was a member at the White Oak Church of God and operated a service station in Irvine for over 60 years.
    Melvin is survived by two sons, Mark David Wiseman (Sherrie) of Irvine and Darryl Alan Wiseman (Richard) of Georgia; four sisters: Mary Stacy Goshen (Charlie) of Indiana, Sella Powell of Mason, Ohio; Dorothy Hall of Irvine, and Gladys White of Louisville; three grandchildren, one great grandson, and a special friend, Ruth Howell.
    A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at White Oak Church of God with Brother Glyndon Woosley officiating.
