Larry James Hatton

    Larry James Hatton, 72, husband of Sharon Ann Hatton, passed away Friday, February 2, 2024 at Stanton Nursing Center.
    He was born September 12, 1951 in Winchester, Kentucky, to the late James Floyd and Estill Lee Briscoe Hatton. He retired as a mechanic from Sylvania.
    In addition to his wife Sharon, survivors include, sons, Bryan Hatton (Rachel) and Frank Alan Hatton; sisters, Opal Geraldine Faulkner (J.B.) and Carolyn Collins (Keith); an aunt, Margaret Congleton; four grandchildren, Lexie Hatton, Addison Hatton, Allison Poe, and Sabrina Banks; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Matthew Hatton; and a sister, Judy Mullins.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Wells Funeral Home in Stanton, officiated by Bro. Lowell Rice & Bro. Glennis Sizemore. Visitation was held Sunday, February 4th beginning at 5 p.m. for family and from 6-9 p.m. for friends.
    Burial followed the funeral at the Hatton Creek Cemetery with Bobby Dale Pelfrey, Michael Bilbrey, Ryan Ingram, Wayne Munday, Logan Munday and Darrell Boone serving as pallbearers.
    Honorary pallbearers included Danny Rogers, Gary Abner, Seldon Pelfrey, and Ted Bilbrey.

Ella Marie Johnson

    Ella Marie Johnson, age 81, of Irvine, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024, at the Fountain Circle Health Care Center in Winchester, Kentucky after a long illness.
    She was born on July 16, 1942, in Irvine, Kentucky to the late Ray and Ada Stone Stamper.
    Ella was a member of the Ivory Hill Baptist Church.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Wendell Stamper; along with one sister, Mary Elizabeth Stamper.
    Survivors include two sons, Bradley Johnson and Danny Johnson; two grandchildren and one great grandson; one sister, Margie Stamper; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends to miss her and mourn her passing.
    Funeral services for Ella Marie Johnson will be conducted on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 12 Noon in the Lewis Home for Funerals Chapel. Brother Marvin Neal will be officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services from 11:00 a.m. until 12 Noon. The family has chosen cremation after the services.

Vickie Murphy

    Vickie Murphy, age 72, of Richmond, Kentucky, transitioned to her Heavenly home on Friday, February 2, 2024, surrounded by those who loved her.
    Vickie adored her family and lived her life dedicated to them, especially her husband of 53 years, Paul Murphy.
    She retired from The Ridge, where she served for over 30 years; building many life long friendships that she valued greatly.
    Vickie was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Elsie Henry, and her in-laws, Raymond and Gertrude Murphy.
    Left to carry on her legacy of love are her daughters, Paula Murphy Devers and Kristie Murphy Larison (Walter); her brother, Gary Henry (Fonda); grandchildren, Hannah Devers, Madeline Moorehead (Tristan), Seth Devers (Rylee), Morgan Larison; one great-grandchild, Archer Devers; and her little dog, Leo.
    Visitation will be from 12:30-2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, with the service to begin at 2:30 p.m. at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main Street, Richmond. Burial to follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Officiating will be Bro. Gene Johns.
    Pallbearers to serve will be Seth Devers, Tristan Moorehead, Anthony Henry, T. J. Stamper, Clay Thomas, and Robert Flanery.
    A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Hospice Care Plus of Richmond, Kentucky.

Kenneth Raider

    Kenneth Raider, age 75, of Irvine, Kentucky departed this life on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the Marcum and Wallace Medical Center in Irvine, Kentucky.
    Kenneth was born on June 29, 1948, in Dayton, Ohio to the late Joe and Pocahontas Canter Raider.
    In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by two brothers, David Rader and Marion Lewis Raider; along with one sister, Virginia Evelyn Raider.
    Survivors include three children, Tomothy Darrell Raider and wife Loretta, Veronica Lee Evans, and Christina Pocahontas Harvey; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and three brothers, Richard and wife Charlotte, Ronald and wife Marilyn, and Michael and wife Theresa Raider; two sisters, Linda Raider Reynolds and husband Jim and Brenda Raider Marrs and husband Fred; along with numerous other nieces and nephews and relatives and friends to miss him and mourn his passing.
    Funeral services for Kenneth Raider were conducted on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at 2 p.m. in the Lewis Home for Funerals Chapel with Brother Brandon Rader officiating. Interment followed in the Sparks Cemetery in Irvine, Kentucky. The family will received friends from 12 Noon until 2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
    The pallbearers were Aaron, Brent, Rick, Ryan Raider; Trae Comley, and Matthew Marrs.

Carrie Jo Estes Sewell

    Carrie Jo Estes Sewell, age 79, of Racetrack Road in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at her home following a sudden illness.
    She was born January 24, 1945, in Estill County and was the daughter of the late Lemon and Callie Horn Estes. She retired from Hart Schaffner Marx and from the Estill County School System where she worked as a Kitchen Manager. She was a member of the Corinth Christian Church, and she had lived in Estill County all her life.
    Mrs. Sewell is survived by her husband, William Donald Sewell; two sons, Jeff Sewell and Danny Sewell (Jacquline), both of Estill County; one sister, Emma Dennis, Estill County; two brothers, Bobby Estes, Clark County; and Paul Estes, Estill County; four grandchildren, Tyler Sewell (Tasha), Brooke Feltrop (Andrew), Taylor Sewell (Kennedy), and Kerstin Turner (Dallas); seven great grandchildren, Isaiah Sewell, Luke Sewell, Maylen Sewell, Reed Feltrop, Jonah Feltrop, Piper Feltrop, and Josie Mae Sewell; and several nieces and nephews.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Lois Walters, Anna Walters, and Lula B. Sewell; and two brothers, Charlie Estes and Lemon Estes Jr.
    Funeral services were conducted Saturday, February 3, 2024, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Linville Dunaway and Bro. Dennis Pasley officiating. Burial was at the Fielder Cemetery. Visitation was held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Pallbearers were Tyler Sewell, Taylor Sewell, Thomas Walters, Billy Walters, Joseph Estes, and Kyle Estes.

    She was born December 18, 1963 in Hazard, Kentucky to the late Charles Guy and Virginia Fern Tyra Madden.
    Survivors include sons, Jonathan Goodwin (Ashley) and William Goodwin (Rachel); a daughter, Samantha Morgan Lopresto; a grandson, Rhodes Goodwin; three sisters, Evelyn Neely (Danny), Pat Young, and Lawanna Daugherty (Robert); honorary son, Josh Geiger; nieces and nephews, Jamie Lay, Josh Wells, Megan Curtis, Bryan Young, Amanda Madden, Casey Crawford, Charlie Young, Cody Mathis, and Kendall Daugherty; great-nieces and nephews, Kailey Lay, Raegan Lay, Michael Lay, Kevin Lay, Grant Wells, Josh Davis, Jenna Davis, Aubree Daugherty, Billy Crawford, McKenzie Crawford, Tony Crawford, Mavis Crawford, Elisha Crawford, Avery Mathis, and Nevaeh Daugherty.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, James Michael Madden; a sister, Robin Lay; a nephew, Waylon Daugherty.
    Services will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024, 4 p.m. at Clay City Eaton Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday. 1-4 p.m., at Wells Funeral Home, 777 West College Avenue, Stanton. Burial will be in Clay City Cemetery with nephews serving as pallbearers.

Gladys Collins Vires

    Gladys Collins Vires, 90, of Means, Kentucky, passed away Monday, January 29, 2024 in Stanton. She was the widow of John Everett Vires.
    She was born August 28, 1933 in Hazard, Kentucky, to the late Abraham and Maudie Lewis Collins and was a longtime cook in restaurants and schools.
    Her survivors include: daughters, Linda Brown (Doug) of Pensacola, Florida, Velda Faye Martin of Hazard, and Josephine Browning of Stanton; grandchildren, Dustin Browning, John Browning, Brandy Browning, Mark Roberts, Angela Turner, Kaelyn Martin, Henry Blevins, and Michelle Stewart; and numerous great-grandchildren.
    In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sons, Michael Wayne Vires and Manuel Vires; brothers, Seldon Collins, J.D. Collins, Ray Lee Collins, Henry Lee Collins, Matt Collins, Jimmy Darrell Collins, and Eli Collins; sisters Betty Melton and Myrtle Oliver; and a granddaughter, Jessica Roberts.
    A private family service will be held at a later time.

    Alfred Nelson Spencer, age 70, widower of Celia Elaine Spencer, passed away Friday, January 26, 2024 at his home in Clay City, Kentucky.
    He was born August 25, 1953 in Jackson, Kentucky, to the late Fendrick and Eva Fraley Spencer.
    A janitor at the Powell County High School, he loved gardening, the outdoors, and his dog Belle. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
    Survivors include step-daughters, Tamara Matthis (Leo Lester) of Pasco County, Florida; and Tracy White of Powell County; a step-son, Tim Bennett of Bath County; brothers, Adam Ray Spencer of Campton and Mervin Spencer of Ohio; a sister, Kaye Fugate of Middletown, Ohio; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    In addition to his parents and beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Kermit Spencer, Kenneth Spencer, Charles Spencer and Bradley Spencer.
    A celebration of life service may be planned at a later time.

Samuel Ray Embs

    Samuel Ray Embs, age 73, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024, in his home after a long illness. He was the son of the late Samuel Napoleon Embs and Nannie Mae Clem Embs.
    He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Neal Embs, his son, Samuel Ray Embs II, his daughter, Kristy Embs Smith, his grandchildren, Timothy Lee Smith III, Anna Smith Rowe, and Maycee Lorraine Embs, his brother, Gary Embs and his sisters, Carlene King, Barbara Richardson, Cleta Dial, Loretta Travis, and Linda Hounshell.
    Samuel was born October 2, 1950 in Estill County, Kentucky and lived here his whole life. He was a Vietnam War veteran who proudly served his country, earning a Purple Heart, a bronze star and various other medals for bravery and service.
    He worked as a sawmill operator and was a skilled carpenter who built his family’s home.
    He was a charter member of Harg Baptist Church and was a faithful Christian who loved the LORD.
    Samuel was a truly kind and generous man who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
    Funeral services were conducted Friday, February 2, 2024, 11 a.m. at the Harg Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Neal officiating. Burial was at the Embs Cemetery. Visitation was held on Thursday, February 1st from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home and after 10 a.m., Friday, at the Harg Baptist Church.
    Pallbearers were Mike Horn, Michael Brandenburg, Wayne Workman, Billly Travis, Jeff Winburn, and Jay Neal
    Honorary pallbearers were Jonah Neal, Landon Campbell, Charles Sparks, Danny Fowler, Danny Newman, and Isaac Couch.

    Fred Arthur, age 89, of Locomotive Street in Irvine, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2024, at his home following a long illness.
    He was born March 27, 1934, in Estill County and was the son of the late Everett and Myrtle Lee Crowe Arthur. He was a former owner of Arthur’s Body Shop and was a member of the First Christian Church. He had lived in Estill County all his life.
    Mr. Arthur is survived by three daughters, Teresa Worrell (Danny Fox) of Montgomery County, Shelia Arthur Hall of Estill County, and Melissa Woosley (Dawayne) of Madison County; two sons, Billy Dean Arthur (Sharon) and Ricky Arthur (Connie), both of Estill County; four brothers: Linville Arthur, H.M. Arthur, Earl Arthur, all of Estill County; and Wallace Arthur of Fayette County; eight grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Teddie Mae Gray Arthur; one sister, Geneva Arthur; and four brothers, Cornelius Arthur, Gerald Arthur, Frank Arthur and Everett Arthur, Jr.
    Funeral services were conducted Monday, January 29, 2024, 1 p.m., at the Warren F. Toler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Keith Weldon officiating. Burial was at the Crowe Cemetery. Visitation was held on Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Pallbearers were Logan Arthur, Jacob Floyd, Nicolas Floyd, Todd Griggs, Anthony Rucker, Charles Durbin, and Dwight Puckett.

Mildred Marie Lamb

    Mildred Marie Lamb, age 81, a beacon of love and grace, returned to her heavenly home on Thursday, January 25, 2024.
    Born on October 1, 1942, in Estill County, she was the daughter of Virgil and Hallie Miller Hoover. Marie was a wonderful wife, a caring mother and a precious Mamaw. But most importantly, she was a cherished child of the King.
    Marie was a homemaker and a member of South Irvine Baptist Church, which she loved dearly. She had the sweetest soul and a smile that lit up hearts.
    She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 59 years, Dawson Lamb; her children, Teresa McKinley, Rodney & Rebecca Lamb, and Rebecca & Matt Lee; her grandchildren: Brooke Feltrop (Andrew) and Cheyenne Lamb; her great grand babies, Reed, Jonah, and Piper Feltrop; her siblings: Herbert Hoover (Mary), Lloyd Hoover (Mary), David Hoover (Alvenia), and Lugladys Collins; and many nieces and nephews.
    In addition to her parents, Marie, was preceded in her death by her brother, Fred Morris Hoover.
    Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, January 30, 2024, 1 p.m. at the South Irvine Baptist Church with Bro. Donnie Burford officiating. Burial was at the South Irvine Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Church. The Warren F. Toler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
    Gravesite flowers welcome, other contributions can be made to South Irvine Baptist Church.

    Byron Keith Welch, age 64, husband of Charlotte Rose Welch, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Norton Hospital, Louisville.
    He was born November 23, 1959 in Winchester, Kentucky to the late Henry Clay and Carolyn Faye Snowden Welch.
    Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Welch; sons, Byron Keith Welch Jr., (Erin) and J.D. Dunaway (Kelly); grandchildren, Brody Welch, Hunter Dunaway, Kaydee Dunaway, and Jakob Dunaway; father-in-law, William Rose; sister-in-law, Conchita Everman (Danny); and brother-in-law, Tim Rose (Megan).
    He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jeffrey Welch.
    Services were held Saturday, January 27, 1 p.m., Wells Funeral Home by Bro. Jimmy Cole. Visitation was held Friday, 5-9 p.m., at the funeral home.
    Burial was in Stanton Cemetery with Travis Kinser, Daniel Kinser, Chris Tipton, Greg Spencer, Greg Hollon, Lee D Freeman, Josh Wells, Josh Crabtree, and Danny Everman serving.
    Honorary pallbearers serving were all his grandchildren, Ellis Ray Garrett, Rondle Reed, Darrell Hatton, Darrell Kennon, David Morton, Luke Turner, and Mike Tipton.
